Back to the hell where you've come from. The untimely passing of Bon Scott in 1980 seems like it would have put AC/DC back on the shelf for a while, and certainly some parents wished that was the case. Just a year later, they would release one of the best selling albums of all time, firmly cementing their place as rock legends while paying tribute to the memory of their former front man. Now led by Brian Johnson, a man who somehow sounded just like the iconic voice they just lost, they were set to carry on to this very day, playing the one song they know. Join us on our journey through another all-time classic, Back In Black.
In this episode, legendary rock guitarist Loren Molinare (Slamdinistas, Little Caesar, The Dogs) talks about the new Slamdinistas album (Wild and Restless), creating a new punk rock band from the bottom up, day job retirement, the importance of the arts, and getting help from David Lee Roth. Plus, the problem of earplugs, disco basslines, and drinking with Bon Scott. You can check out Loren at the following locations:https://slamdinistas.comhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjWyE5Aat6Yhttps://www.littlecaesar.nethttps://www.facebook.com/motorcityfever/Paul works a day job and puts out vinyl and puts on shows viaKatzulhu Productionshttps://www.facebook.com/paul.neil.12https://www.facebook.com/katzulhuhttps://www.facebook.com/Dont-Quit-Your-Day-Job-podcast-107924851339602
Send us a textEpisode 191He was the swagger in the storm, the howl in the night, the electric pulse running through the veins of rock ‘n' roll. A tattooed troubadour with a crooked grin and a voice that sounded like it had been soaked in whiskey and set on fire. Bon Scott didn't just sing—he lived the lyrics. Hard, fast, and always one heartbeat away from the edge. But behind the denim, the strut, and the devilish wink was a man far more complex than the screaming frontman of AC/DC. This is the story of a Scottish-born kid who landed in Australia and set the world alight. Of heartbreak, of brotherhood, of the road, and of a voice that became immortal just as its owner slipped away.In this short journey through his life, we won't just hear the music. We'll walk the stages, ride the vans, feel the sting of cold nights and roaring crowds. And maybe, just maybe, we'll understand how one man burned so brightly, even if only for a short while.Support the showInsta@justpassingthroughpodcastContact:justpassingthroughpodcast@gmail.com
WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR BON SCOTT (a continuation of our AC/DC Side 1: The Bon Scott Years episode from way back in 2020) is OUR greatest hits package from the iconic Bon Scott Years of AC/DC. And because we couldn't include ALL of the tracks from this legendary era, there were quite a few that unfortunately got “Shot Down In Flames”. Having said that, we still managed to include everything we felt SHOULD be included which best represents the classic Bon era of AC/DC. Find out how tasting the “after-tang” from “snooch smooching” is a lot like “when you're used to the black and you get the green”. Brace yourself for our upcoming “Metal Nerdery apology tour” with a stop in “Australasia”, embrace the presence of the “Ghost of The Bunkerpoon”, and prepare for a story with a cast of characters that can only be described as “The Reverse Oreo”. Send us a textVelkommen til Let there be pod! Jesse Fink har skrevet flere bøker om AC/DC, "The Youngs: The Brothers Who Built AC/DC" og to bøker om Bon Scott: "Bon: The Last Highway" og "Bon: Notes from the Highway". Under arrangementet fikk vi muligheten til å møte Fink backstage, hvor vi diskuterte hans forfatterskap, grundige research og hans innsikt i Bon Scotts død og albumet "Back in Black". Finks arbeid har kastet nytt lys over Scotts siste dager og hans mulige bidrag til "Back in Black", noe som har skapt debatt blant fans og kritikere. Long Live Rockabilly! New fans all over the world are discovering this uniquely American genre, from weekend bashes to festivals to musicals to rockabilly lookalike contests. Rockabilly– that perfect blend “rock and roll” and “hillbilly,” plus a dash of country and R&B – was officially kicked off by guitarist and songwriter Carl Perkins. His iconic song “Blue Suede Shoes” launched a sound so sensational it paved the way for timeless artists like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and countless others. CARL PERKINS: The King of Rockabilly is the first updated biography of Perkins in decades. As Paul McCartney said, “If there were no Carl Perkins, there would be no Beatles.” Acclaimed music writer Jeff Apter recounts Carl Perkins's remarkable life story—the triumphs, tragedies, and career highlights that include some of the most pivotal moments in music history. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jeff Apter has written more than thirty books about music and musicians, and his work has been published all around the world. His subjects include Keith Urban, AC/DC's Bon Scott and the Young brothers, the Bee Gees, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Cure, and Dave Grohl. For a time he was a staff writer at Australian Rolling Stone. He lives near Sydney in Australia. Learn more HERE

Bob DaisleyDespite repeated efforts to scrub his name from the history books, bassist, composer and lyricist Bob Daisley is universally celebrated (and rightfully so) as a creative force behind some of heavy metal's most defining songs and albums (you've heard of “Crazy Train,” eh?). He joins us to discuss the writing and recording of “Blizzard of Ozz,” “Diary of a Madman,” “Bark at the Moon” and other albums that made Ozzy Osbourne a superstar. We also discuss his theory behind the fatal Randy Rhoads plane crash; the inspiration of Jimi Hendrix; his time in Rainbow and Uriah Heep; his book, “For Facts Sake;” and that time Bon Scott bummed a beer, but left behind some cash like a gentleman. Bon Scott was an amazing singer for ACDC. He will always be remembered as the greatest rock music legend in the music industry.
Fifty years ago, in the fall of 1974, Bon Scott and AC/DC joined forces. They began building the foundation for what would go on to become one of the world's biggest rock and roll bands. With Bon, they reached the height of their commercial success thanks to the multi-platinum-selling 1979 album Highway To Hell. After Bon's untimely death, Brian Johnson stepped in as lead singer, and with 1980's Back In Black, the band was even bigger. The album topped the charts and went on to sell 27 million copies. It ranks as one of the biggest-selling albums in music history. Here to talk about the amazing story of AC/DC is author Susan Masino, who wrote the book Let There Be Rock: The Story Of AC/DC. Originally released in 2009, the updated edition was released through Omnibus Press in 2020. She is also the author of 2015's AC/DC FAQ-All That's Left to Know About the World's True Rock and Roll Band. We talk about the band's storied history and find out what Susan thinks of the recent news - AC/DC has just announced the band's first US tour in nearly 10 years!Purchase a copy of Let There Be Rock: The Story Of AC/DCPurchase a copy of AC/DC FAQ: All That's Left to Know About the World's True Rock 'n' Roll BandVisit Susan Masino's website Episode Playlist ---------- BookedOnRock.com The Booked On Rock YouTube Channel Follow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich:FACEBOOKINSTAGRAMTIKTOKX Find Your Nearest Independent Bookstore Contact The Booked On Rock Podcast: thebookedonrockpodcast@gmail.com The Booked On Rock Music: “Whoosh” by Crowander / “Last Train North” & “No Mercy” by TrackTribe

What The Riff?!? makes another scary trip down the Halloween rabbit hole with these theme songs, movie and TV music, and rock songs with a bent towards the macabre. We hope you enjoy this third edition of "Halloween" from What the Riff?!? Highway to Hell by AC/DC The opening track to the 1979 album of the same name features Bon Scott on his last album as lead singer of the group before his untimely death. The name of the song was inspired by the group's gruesome touring schedule.Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue The Crue's 1983 breakthrough album of the same name would establish them as one of the most successful metal bands of the 80's. The song was controversial, with many believing that it encouraged devil worship, though the lyrics themselves do not explicitly do so.Disarm by The Smashing Pumpkins Off their breakout album "Siamese Dream," this song references "the killer in me is the killer in you" is inspired by Billy Corgan's contemplation of his negligent parents and suicide. The lyrics "cut that little child" caused the song to be banned by the BBC.Demons by Imagine Dragons This song off Imagine Dragons' major label debut studio album became their second top 10 single. It is really not about demons in the Halloween sense, but more the tragedies of life like abuse, PTSD, and mental illness.Voodoo by Godsmack The third single from Godsmack's self-titled debut album was inspired by Wes Craven's film “The Serpent and the Rainbow.” This song became Dave Bautista's theme song as Leviathan when he was in the WWE. Mommy's Little Monster by Social Distortion The title track from Social Distortion's debut album tells a horror tale of a kid becoming a punk rocker. It is another song about dealing with personal demons rather than the supernatural. Witch Wolf by Styx Early in their career Styx put out this song to lead off their third album, “The Serpent is Rising.” James Young takes lead vocal duties on this song that tells about a person accursed by a creature called the witch wolf, and night rider.Dragula by Rob Zombie The lead single from Rob Zombie's debut album may be his biggest hit. The audio clip at the beginning of the song is taken from the 1960 horror film “The City of the Dead.” The name comes from the TV sitcom "The Munsters," where Grandpa Munster has a dragster called "Drag-u-la."The theme to the TV series "Twilight Zone" This menagerie of bizarre tales from the early days of TV still has staying power in our sci-fi culture. Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger walks us through a discussion with Old Scratch himself in this well-known classic from the Stones' catalogue. The idea is a narrative from Satan's point of view as he reviews historical events. That Old Black Magic by Frank Sinatra Old Blue Eyes gave us this romantic song with a Halloween bent. It was a jazz classic originally written in 1942 with lyrics penned by Johnny Mercer. Love is "that old black magic" in this tune.Night of the Vampire by Roky Erickson From this cult classic album "The Evil One," this song is one of a plethora of horror-oriented tracks on the album. Erickson spent a significant amount of time in mental institutions. The Kill (Bury Me) by Thirty Seconds to Mars Jared Leto, front man for the group (and perhaps better known as an actor today), has said this song is about the relationship you have with yourself, and confronting the dark side of who you are.Take Me to Church by Hozier This haunting hit song compares falling in love with a kind of death, and compares the lover to a kind of religion. In the 1980s, AC/DC's biggest fan was a notorious serial killer. The band was an international best-selling hit machine, and members like the late Bon Scott and die-hard Angus Young became rock icons. But when the press caught wind of the disturbing fandom of the serial killer Richard “The Night Stalker” Ramirez, the news quickly dragged the world's most fun, pure rock ‘n' roll band straight down the highway to hell and into the center of a media firestorm around Satanic Panic and the inspirations of a murderer. “It's all the same…only the names will change…” Sometimes, just like with “identical” twins, identifying the differences between subgenres can be difficult. Sure, they may seem the same, but there are subtle differences between the two that make them unique as individuals. Similarly, as with the “speed metal vs thrash metal” debate which has persisted since the 80's, so continues the everlasting debate between Stoner and Doom metal: Are they the same? Or are they different? And if they ARE different, then WHAT is the difference? In short, both Stoner AND Doom metal trace the source of each of its respective origins back to Black Sabbath, with each possessing an arsenal of crushing riffs, tuned down guitars, and slow, heavy, trudging tempos. But if there were a single distinction to draw the line between these two subgenres, then that line has to be within the lyrical subject matter, as shown by the following logic*: IF drug references, THEN stoner metal. IF not, THEN doom metal. Prepare yourself for an onslaught of Nerdery off shoots, including the forthcoming (as yet to be started) “Angry Matt” podcast, prepare for our upcoming “Bon Jovi album dive”, stick around for our sandwich segment on “Sandwich Nerdery”, including a rant-filled accusation against a former sandwich giant who was wrongly accused of wreaking gastrointestinal havoc with their “muffalotta” and JOIN US as we attempt to get to the heart of the matter at hand with STONER DOOM METAL VOL. 7: THE SEARCH FOR DOOM *While we're well aware that this is not an exact science and our logic may seem a tad “dirty sloppy”, it's the best we could do given the circumstances. Sup VoiceHeads! We do a quick case study on the great Van Halen to look at the stellar advantages of matching lead tones! Even the biggest David Lee Roth fans would admit Sammy Hagar had the superior vocal instrument- so why is the classic Van Halen era so much more iconic and beloved by fans? The easy answer is showmanship of course. DLR is the split-jumping motor mouth macdaddy who seduced an MTV generation, but there's something more relevant to the music itself.I believe it's because David Lee Roth succeeded in matching Eddie Van Halen's lead guitar tone with his voice. Almost all the great bands do this. Joe Perry matching Steven Tyler, Robert Plant matching Jimmy Page, James Brown matching the lead brass, Bon Scott and Brian Johnson matching Angus Young's SG, Raymond Zarick matching Jim Morrison, Steve Vai and Randy Rhodes matching Ozzy Osbourne...It's a delicate art with various hard vocal techniques that we can acquire and master both to imitate the greats, and to create great art of our own!If you've ever wondered what makes the difference between seeing a band with the original line-up, or with changes made to the line-up and whether or not the fans feel like they're getting what they came for, this podcast episode is just for you!www.allvoicemedia.comIf you're interested in training your voice directly with me, check out All Voice Media: Backstage. Though AC/DC are one of the most revered and successful bands in the history of rock n roll, in 1979 they hadn't cracked the Top 100 in the US. The killer riffs laid down by Malcolm Young had gained them a strong following in Europe and their native Australia but they had yet to breach the great big U-S-of-A. So in 1979 they brought in a new producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange to give them an edge. And though they were all skeptical after giving Eddie Kramer a shot, once Mutt showed them he knew how to sing, how to get the most out of Angus's guitar and how to put together songs, they were all on board. However, though this would be their big breakthrough in America with Highway To Hell reaching the Top 20, the celebration wouldn't last as lead singer and primary antagonist Bon Scott would soon die while living that rock n roll life. But before he left he gave us some of his patented sexual innuendo (Walk All Over You, Love Hungry Man, Touch Too Much) and his description of his lifestyle in the title track. Cliff Williams had settled in on the bass after Powerage and the live album If You Want Blood You Got It and Angus Young came of age with the help of Mutt Lange in the studio. The result is some of their greatest riffs (Highway To Hell, If You Want Blood (You've Got It), fan favorites (Girls Got Rhythm, Shot Down In Flames) and controversy (Nightprowler). It marked the end of an era with Bon Scott but the start of working with Mutt Lange who would help their next album become the 2nd biggest selling album of all time. This is a fun one that all hard rock and heavy metal fans love!!!
