This week on Geekwire, we dig into some big movement in the hard rock and metal world as Skid Row teams up with Sweetwater for a worldwide search for a brand-new singer — and yes, anyone with the pipes can throw their hat in the ring. We also hit comments from Slash, who explains how the Guns N' Roses recording process has always worked as a democracy behind the scenes, plus tour news as W.A.S.P. announces the “1984 to Headless” North American run with special guests KK's Priest. We discuss a tough update from the metal world as Twisted Sister cancels all 2026 reunion shows due to Dee Snider's health challenges, and the reaction across the scene. Also in the mix: Manowar shares emotional words following news about Ross “The Boss,” Accept guitarist Philip Shouse unveils his debut EP, and Blaze Bayley explains why he's stepping away from meet-and-greets at future shows. We check out a funny story from Chris Jericho involving Ozzy Osbourne, along with new music news from Donnie Vie signing to Steven Van Zandt's label. KISS-related headlines dominate part of the show as Gene Simmons joins an all-star tribute to the Bon Scott era of AC/DC, the sons of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons release the first Stanley Simmons video, and the classic “I Was Made For Lovin' You” video crosses the one-billion-view mark on YouTube. Plus: Brett Carlisle's run on American Idol, the bizarre Chattanooga KISS memorabilia theft story (by popular demand), and renewed discussion around the Kurt Cobain investigation as claims resurface while Seattle police stand by the original ruling. We hope you enjoy Geekwire and SHARE with a friend. Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family. Contact Us! #338 MEGADETH Album Review

Metal Nerdery

“You know what I'm hearing? This sounds like it could have been…the sidepiece…to The Black Album…”   There's almost a strange, sarcastic satisfaction in knowing that the new self-titled MEGADETH album will forever be known (at least in our neck of the woods anyway) as “The White Album”.    “Every time you keep talking, I just see shapes and letters…”   Released on January 23, 2026, MEGADETH is the 17th studio album from Dave Mustaine and Company and represents the final chapter in the 40+ year history of the angriest, snarliest, and most progressively technical thrash band of The Big Four.    And oh yeah, it debuted at NUMBER ONE on Billboard and at the top of the charts all over the world!!!   While MEGADETH represents the band's epilogue, it contains all of the elements that have defined the band's sound and the ethos of the genre that they co-created with the rest of The Big Four. All of the essentials are there: insanely technical riffs, face melting guitar solos, triumphant twin guitar harmonies, as well as some more straight ahead, laid back and accessible material that screams “radio friendly” without being dull or boring. If you're a fan, you'll dig it. And if you're not a fan, who knows? You too may also dig it.   “Maybe it's not pronounced ‘Tey-Muu'…it's pronounced ‘Steve'.”   Always remember that “Rugby is a man's sport that should be having grindcore bands playing the halftime show…” and that “You're gonna paint secret little bushes like you paint secret little bushes… (and don't you tell anybody).   Get ready for an apology from us regarding the last “White Album” review that we did, prepare for a never before heard “triple record scratch” (because we're trying to stay out of trouble) and JOIN US for Dave & Vic's swan song with MEGADETH.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can't be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast Show Notes: (00:01): ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised *** / #coffeewithdrawal / “That's my drug of choice…”/ ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST!!!*** /  “It's a ‘long cold' now…”/ “Let's be real…can we have a metal band play the #SuperBowl?”/ “You want me to use the word…can I use the word?” / “They pander…”/ “Rugby is a man's sport. #Rugby should have #grindcore bands play their halftime show…”/ #FuckYouNFL /  #AmericanIdiot / “The shitty overhyped football show…”/ #FuckYouGrammys for leaving out #BrentHinds from the #InMemoriam / “Give them the minivan…2 in the front and 5 in the back…”/ “Some people need a pat on the back…”   (07:52): #FairUse / “If anything, we are helping people find out about these bands and these albums and this music…”/ “So you know what? #FuckYouRecordIndustry …today is #FuckYouDay …”/ Worst roller coaster ride ever / “Not only our sexy voices but our shitty faces too…”/ ***PATREON US at patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast *** / “Whooooooooo….” / #NewShittah #AtomicFreak TWO FACED WOMAN / “This is #ACDC from the 1970's…”/ “One more…/ LIGHT THE FUSE / “Are we doing an album dive here?” / NUCLEAR MELTDOWN / “What if AC/DC kept recording with Bon Scott?” / #BonFest / “In the same vein…since we're doing this…”/ #Airbourne TOO MUCH, TOO YOUNG, TOO FAST / “My CD player ate my #DreamTheater CD…”/ “Every time you keep talking, I just see shapes and letters…math equations…”   (22:13): #TheDocket METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS: MEGADETH (by MEGADETH) / 17th album by #Megadeth (and their first #1 album on #Billboard) / “It wasn't you it was the door…”/ Released January 23, 2026 / “Yes…math and triangles…”/ “How'd you do that?”/ #vocalburnASMR / “It sounded like he had an effect pedal…”/ “He's got #Elvis mouth…” / TIPPING POINT / “There's some stuff on here I could almost hear on ‘Killing Is My Business…'”   (31:13): #skatepunkthrash / “Man, that #Coroner album though…you can't have that helmet on…”/ “Have you seen the vinyl? In this episode of "Seeing Them Live," host Charles welcomes back Paul Peterson, a retired technology manager and lifelong audiophile who hosts the podcast 'An Avid Listener.' Together, Charles and Paul explore the complex world of bands performing with significantly changed lineups. The conversation was sparked by Paul's recent concert experiences, including seeing Alan Parsons and the Doobie Brothers with almost entirely new members, which led him to question what makes a band authentic and what concertgoers are really seeking when they buy tickets based on a famous name.Charles and Paul examine numerous examples of lineup changes with varying outcomes. They contrast successful transitions like AC/DC replacing Bon Scott with Brian Johnson and Iron Maiden swapping Paul Di'Anno for Bruce Dickinson, with more questionable situations like Grand Funk Railroad touring without Mark Farner, the Beach Boys performing with only Mike Love, and Queen continuing with Adam Lambert. The discussion reveals how fans often purchase tickets unaware of major personnel changes, raising questions about transparency and the power of brand names in the music industry.Paul encourages listeners to research bands before attending concerts and seek experiences that offer more than nostalgia. He emphasizes the value of artists sharing stories and offering unique performances rather than simply recreating studio recordings, praising innovative approaches like Steely Dan performing entire albums in sequence and intimate acoustic sets from aging rockers. While lineup changes are inevitable, the key is transparency and delivering an experience that justifies the ticket price—whether through musical excellence, storytelling, unique venues, or discovering new bands at smaller, more intimate settings.BANDS: AC/DC, Alan Parsons, Beach Boys, Beatles, Black Sabbath, BoDeans, Brian Auger, Doobie Brothers, Duke Tomato and the All Stars, Eagles, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Flaming Lips, Fleetwood Mac, Gov't Mule, Grand Funk Railroad, Grateful Dead, Heart, Iron Maiden, James Gang, Johnny Reno and the Sax Maniacs, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin Two, Motley Crue, Pink Floyd, Queen, Rolling Stones, Scorpions, Steely Dan, Super Tramp, The Doors, The Who, Toto.VENUES: Arcadia, Auditorium Theater, Candlestick Park, Chicago Stadium, City Winery, Empty Bottle, Fitzgerald's, Hollywood Bowl, House of Blues, Living Room, Riot Fest, Shea Stadium, The Sphere. L'Heure H

With special guest: Jeff Apter in conversation with Bill Kable Bon Scott as his name might suggest was born in Scotland but after his parents signed up to be £10 Poms he arrived in Australia at the age of 6 to a new life. That short life was filled to the brim and Bon provided plenty of his own commentary on his wild adventures before and during his time with the world beating rock band AC/DC. Our guest today is writer Jeff Apter the author of Bad Boy Boogie, a new book published by Allen & Unwin. Jeff is very familiar with the AC/DC story having previously written about other members of the band the Young brothers and original bass player Mark Evans. When we speak with Jeff again today we are able to go behind the scenes to find out how Bon fitted in so quickly and easily with the Young brothers in their closely guarded troupe. We find out more about the real Bon Scott, his wild side where a party could go on for days but also how many women who came into his orbit described his as a real gentleman. Podcast (mp3)

Episode 266 of Tom Clark's 6M Podcast is a review of AC/DC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Tom Clark and Chris Patton break down the band's gritty and unfiltered 1976 hard-rock classic., with a look at how it shaped AC/DC's identity during the Bon Scott era. From the punk-leaning title track to deeper cuts like "Ride On" and "Ain't No Fun (Waiting 'Round to Be a Millionaire)," we explore the stories behind the songs, and why Dirty Deeds remains a fan favorite. Does AC/DC deserve the criticism for being the band that constantly delivers the same sound, or is that what makes the band great? We're diving into that, and a lot more! This week we are giving a cheers to ten years! Join us as we celebrate the anniversary of the Old Smyrna Firehouse (InObscuria and Captain Content HQ). We get the inside scoop from the man himself on how this relic of a building was brought back to life to all of its firehouse glory and beyond. The building is not only Robert's home, but it is also an exhibit within the community and is utilized for private events, weddings, photoshoots, TV commercials, and feature-length films. Oh, and it's where we record the show every week! We celebrate by listening to songs that will get you fired up and leave you with a burning sensation! What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week.

Hardrock? 100% "Back In Black"!" __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "Back In Black" wird im Podcast gesprochen: (23:13) – "Hells Bells"(37:05) – "Shoot To Thrill"(48:45) – "Back In Black"(01:03:12) – "You Shook Me All Night Long"(01:10:44) – "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" __________ Alle Shownotes und weiterführenden Links zur Folge: https://1.ard.de/acdc-back-in-black __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? Nothing can beat a charismatic frontman. Then again, there are some Side Players that give them a run for their money. I mean… who is Bono without Edge? Freddie Mercury without Brian May? Roth or Haggar without Eddie Van Halen? Robert Plant without Jimmy Page? Anthony Kiedis without John Frusciante? Bon Scott or Brian Johnson without Angus & Malcolm? Or Mick Jagger without Keith Richards.Of course I would be remiss not to mention the few charismatic Frontmen that are also ripping guitarists. Like Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Either of the Vaughn Brothers, Derek Trucks, Prince, Eric Clapton, Chet Atkins, Mark Knopfler, Vince Gill… and lets just say ALL of the Kings. But which is it better to be, a Frontman or a Side Player? Can you be both? Which carries more stress? Which carries more fame? Does one roll have more significance than the other? Who has the bigger influence on the sound? If we could give some advice, what would it be? When I think of a band, which member  comes to mind? And… job security… did I just get fired?Well we will discuss this, and more on this group therapy session with Lloyd, on the Tweed Couch.

WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR BON SCOTT (a continuation of our AC/DC Side 1: The Bon Scott Years episode from way back in 2020) is OUR greatest hits package from the iconic Bon Scott Years of AC/DC. And because we couldn't include ALL of the tracks from this legendary era, there were quite a few that unfortunately got “Shot Down In Flames”. Having said that, we still managed to include everything we felt SHOULD be included which best represents the classic Bon era of AC/DC.   Find out how tasting the “after-tang” from “snooch smooching” is a lot like “when you're used to the black and you get the green”. Brace yourself for our upcoming “Metal Nerdery apology tour” with a stop in “Australasia”, embrace the presence of the “Ghost of The Bunkerpoon”, and prepare for a story with a cast of characters that can only be described as “The Reverse Oreo”. Get ready to “mark the time” a LOT and remember that “Balls are BALLS, dude!” when you JOIN US because WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR BON SCOTT!!!   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182   Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, or wherever you get your Podcasts. In the 1980s, AC/DC's biggest fan was a notorious serial killer. The band was an international best-selling hit machine, and members like the late Bon Scott and die-hard Angus Young became rock icons. But when the press caught wind of the disturbing fandom of the serial killer Richard “The Night Stalker” Ramirez, the news quickly dragged the world's most fun, pure rock ‘n' roll band straight down the highway to hell and into the center of a media firestorm around Satanic Panic and the inspirations of a murderer.
