The Fabulous Thunderbirds are an American treasure, formed in Austin, Texas in 1974, the band developed an infectious blend of blues and rock that hit pay dirt with songs like “Tuff Enuff” and “Wrap it Up” from 1986. The group is celebrating their 50th anniversary with the release of Struck Down, their first new material in eight years.  The record features contributions from big name artists like Billy Gibbons, Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo, Taj Mahal and Elvin Bishop.  The one constant over the 50 years has been powerhouse vocalist Kim Wilson. He tells us why he thinks this is the band's best album to date, plus how he hooked up with the famous guests on the album.

Jimmie Vaughan is an American legend. He's spent almost 50 years playing his blues guitar, first with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, who hit big in the mid 80's with songs like “Tuff Enuff,” “Wrap it Up” and ‘Powerful Stuff,” before teaming with his brother, Stevie Ray, right before his passing for the Vaughan Brothers album. Since then, he's played with a who's who of the blues world, while also releasing his own solo records. All of that has culminated in The Jimmie Vaughan Story, from Last Music Company. The set includes 5 CD's – covering everything Vaughan has done in a band and as a sideman, with a lot of the tracks previously unreleased. But, that's just the beginning. The Deluxe Edition also features a vinyl LP of his Grammy-winning album Do You Get the Blues, two vinyl singles, a full color magazine of Vaughan's classic cars, along with the crown jewel of the set – a 240-page, hardcover book featuring a treasure trove of photos of Vaughan, his brother Stevie and family, as well as Vaughan's musical compadres over the years, plus extensive interviews, that help paint the most complete picture of a man who has never strayed from the blues.Vaughan tells us about a lot of the unreleased material and where it came from, and how he helped form the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Plus, he talks about what led to his teaming with brother, Stevie Ray Vaughan, on their album Family Style.

Founding member and vocalist for the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kim Wilson, has enjoyed hit albums, sold out concerts and even videos on MTV, but his latest project takes him back to where it all started – Blues and Boogie Volume One is a collection of raw blues, done the old-fashioned way. The 16 tracks give Wilson a chance to honor some of his idols, like James Cotton, Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson, while also throwing in some of his originals which fit perfectly with the mood.He reveals how he was able to channel that vintage sound on his new material. Indie/House/Techno.   Here's a mix bursting with juicy little numbers. It starts off quite indie alternative with the great tune ‘Tighten Up' by the Black Keys and going through the quirky soundtrack of ‘Drive Away'. Eventually, the robots start to make a racket with ‘Tuff Enuff', which finishes with a kind of harsh blowing up of the machines that then bursts into the deeper tech-house of ‘Picanha Frenesi', Phonique and Dennis Ferrer. We then get some upbeat breaks and deep electro-house that eventually climaxes into some Stanton breaks with some final flourishes from Metric, Extrawelt and Boys Noize on the remix of Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack ‘End of Line'.
