HEY! We encourage you to listen to this show as part of the "Happy Hour with John Gaskins" daily podcast, which you can find at SiouxFallsLive.com, and most podcast platforms like the one you find here! So, if you enjoy the topics Matt & John cover, you'll get those topics, plus relevant local guests, every Monday through Thursday on Happy Hour... so we highly recommend you check that out!We are living in a college sports Bizarro World. Indiana is the No. 1 football team in America, while Nebraska sports the No. 8 men's basketball team. Let that sink in. In a "Nobody's Listening Anyway" episode that included plenty of the usual Jackrabbits, Coyotes, FCS, transfer port and Summit League basketball banter, Sioux Falls Live sports editor Matt Zimmer and the Happy Hour host took some time to digest this "what planet are we on" concept — Hoosiers football and Huskers basketball on heaters. Zim explains why he is enjoying Curt Cignetti and Indiana's rise, and not just because it is a once-in-a-lifetime rags-to-riches football story. Plus, Zim is engages the host — not just a Husker football zealot but a long-suffering "Nebrasketball" nut — about the excitement of Fred Hoiberg's squad potentially taking Big Red basketball to where it has never been. Other topics covered: * Why not nearly as many USD fans will become nearly as engaged in Hawkeye football with L.J. Phillips playing in Iowa as SDSU fans who hopped on the train with Mark Gronowski * Griffin Wilde getting a much more experienced and famous offensive coordinator at Northwestern — former Oregon, 49ers, and Eagles head coach Chip Kelly — than his former SDSU OC Zach Lujan * Former SDSU and Washington State offensive coordinator Danny Freund landing not with former SDSU head coach Jimmy Rogers at Iowa State, but back at North Dakota, where he was the OC before coming to Brookings in 2024 and Pullman in '25 * The monster basketball showdowns SDSU's men and women have with North Dakota State this week * Why O'Gorman boys basketball coach Derek Robey — who announced Friday that after 40 seasons and six state titles that this season will be his last — is "one of the most underrated coaches in South Dakota history," not just for high school hoops, but all sports at all levels.

So, if you enjoy the topics Matt & John cover, you'll get those topics, plus relevant local guests, every Monday through Thursday on Happy Hour... so we highly recommend you check that out!Is it time for the Coyotes to take a seat at the FCS "grownup" table? In other words, to make room to expand the "Big Four" of FCS football — North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Montana State, Montana — to the "Big Five?"USD has made three consecutive quarterfinals, something NDSU and SDSU — who have split the last four national titles, two apiece — can't say after losing in the round of 16 on Saturday (but the Bobcats and the Grizzlies can).Unlike the Big Four, the Coyotes haven't played in an FCS national title game within the last four years, or ever. We'll find out how they stack up against a blue blood Saturday on ABC in a time window when Army-Navy will be the only other football game to watch on over-the-air TV.But Sioux Falls Live sports editor Matt Zimmer and Happy Hour host John Gaskins dig in to what three years of USD reaching this round means, particularly for a 2025 team that has won five consecutive games — four against ranked teams — and left a 47-0 bruise on SoCon champ Mercer, the nation's best (statistical) offense and rush defense, by holding the Bears to 277 total yards (227 short of their average) and bulldozing them for 316 rushing yards (226 over their average). So, will the Coyotes stack up to the Grizzlies better than the Jackrabbits, who were 50-burgered? Zim and John kick that around as well in this week's edition of their five-years-and-running weekly podcast "Nobody's Listening Anyway."Also on the docket:* Why is Zim happy for Jimmy Rogers at Iowa State, and why does he find it nonsense to bash his character for leaving Washington State after less than a year to take his third head coaching job in four years? And why, in hindsight, was he still the best choice to take over for John Stiegelmeier?* Why does Zim feel Chase Mason doesn't need to go to the Big Ten or SEC or any FBS school to show NFL pros he is worthy of an early rounds NFL Draft selection?* What is Zim's sense of how many SDSU players who aren't out of eligibility will stick around?* Does NDSU's early round exit from the FCS Playoffs make the postseason more interesting or more boring? Does it make the FCS stronger? Does it strengthen or weaken the case that the Bison should want to stay in the FCS?* Oh, and should James Madison's entry into the CFB Playoffs make the case for NDSU and SDSU to "move up?" Actually, Zim says no. Why?* Bowl games — yeah, their prestige has been weakened over the decades by the sheer volume of them, the number of top players sitting them out, and now the number of teams refusing to play in them. Does that mean they should all go away? Zim says no. Hear why.

Jim is all on board with Rick Neuheisel, but Puck doesn't see it or want it. Puck believes they should go all in on Brent Vigen, the Montana State head coach. What about Luke Falk? Both Puck and Jim agree that would be a stretch. Whoever they hire they just want someone who loves Pullman and Washington State. They briefly touch in on the Harry Ford trade and wonder why he didn't return more and it spoke volumes how the rest of the league views him. And, did Pete Carroll just sound the alarms on betting in the NFL on he coached in their loss to the Broncos on Sunday by kicking a last second field goal to cover the spread?Puck talks Seahawks, “The Dugar Report” with Michael-Shawn Dugar, The Athletic. On today' Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett and the Go-2-Guy Jim Moore open up the show and it get dominated by an outstanding column that Jim wrote at JimMooreTheGo2Guy.substack.com about certain things in the NFL that bothers him. Yes, it's the most popular sport but some things are wrong with it like the over analytical commentary, the kickoff rules and personal foul penalties! Puck and Jim also touch in on the college football playoff rankings and Puck can't understand what the hell Washington State hoops coach David Riley was thinking in their Tuesday night loss to Bradley! The boys are back for one final regular season visit for "Old Crimson" and Jason "Puck" Puckett, Jim Moore and former WSU All-American Paul Sorensen recap the 2025 season and discuss how good of a season was it for Jimmy Rogers in year one. There was a lot to like under Rogers in year one, certainly there were some ups and downs, but under Rogers the Cougars showed a lot of promise in year one. Withe letter of intent starting this week and the portal opening up in January it's imperative that the Cougs add to their roster and limit the losses. Plus, lots of different opinions on where the Cougs will go bowling this season.
On today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett and Jim Moore, the Go-2-Guy, kickoff Monday's show discussing the Lane Kiffin mess and saga in college football and laugh at all the people who are coming to his defense and making excuses for him. Puck and Jim also discuss that Jedd Fisch cost himself the Florida job this season and he probably regrets it. Jimmy Rogers and the Cougs finish the season 6-6 and both agree it was a successful season. The Seahawks shutout the Vikings and the defense is rolling, but did Minnesota give the rest of the league the blueprint on how to stop JSN? Michael-Shawn Dugar, The Athletic stops by for the “Dugar Report” and discusses the Seahawks dominating defense, the play of Sam Darnold, JSN's slow day, can Anthony Bradford be replaced and why has Rashid Shaheed not made an impact yet?“On This Day…” Puck covers everything from Bingo, Seattle Pilots, Wilt Chamberlain and Pablo Escobar!
