Episode 17, we sit down with former long-snapper and current podcast host Tyler Kluver. As a walk-on for the University of Iowa, Tyler played through multiple successful seasons at Iowa, including a historic Rose Bowl season in 2015. After graduation, Kluver started the Washed up Walk-ons Podcast alongside 2 of his former teammates at Iowa. Now with well over 300 episodes under their belts, the Washed up Walk-ons have built quite the following, and continue to give back large amounts to the children's hospital from much of their earnings. Our podcast is the family-friendly alternative to the WuW podcast built for kids, and we discuss how the 2 are definitely not in competition, but a companion piece for the kids of the Walk-on listeners. This is by far the longest episode we've ever had, and we probably could have kept going for easily another hour. Tyler is full of great answers, and seemed to enjoy being on the hot seat at the end of the episode. Make sure to check out their podcast HERE. And follow them here on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Make sure you let Tyler know what you thought of the episode and drop us some feedback. Welcome to the Iowa Hype Podcast. My son and I are avid Hawkeye fans and enjoy spending time together talking about the team, and life in general. My goal with this podcast is to spend some time with my son and be able to enjoy these episodes in 20 years. Matthew has had a blast chatting and interviewing guys that he absolutely views as Kings! Right now this is a fun thing we get to do together, but maybe, it will turn into something we can do together every couple of weeks! It's a Wednesday version of The College Football Playoff Show, which means time to add some teams to the pool of playoff contenders and time to kick one out. Doug Lesmerises and Shehan Jeyarajah take on that task, with Oregon, Penn State, Ole Miss and Florida the candidates to be welcomed to the list of contenders this week. On the other end, either Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas A&M or Iowa State is getting booted, so be ready. Also on this show: A very interesting stretch for Alabama over the next month with games against Florida, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. Should the Tide be on upset alert? The wild Texas A&M 10-7 win over Colorado last week. Can the Aggies hang around while playing their backup QB with starter Haynes King out? A special visit from Iowa podcaster Tyler Kluver, a former long snapper for the Hawkeyes who's now a co-host of the Washed Up Walkons podcast. How close are the Hawkeyes to hanging with the best in the country after their win over Iowa State? Thanks for listening to The College Football Playoff Show. Mark is from Buffalo Grove, Illinois. After enrolling in the Air Force Academy in 2010 he quickly decided that it wasn't the path for him and he decided to pursue walking on to the University of Iowa Football team. That turned into a great decision as Mark established himself as an extremely hard worker and great team leader off the field, as well as becoming a the feature running back due to injury problems on the team. Mark gave the NFL a run but ultimately made a decision to retire from football and he talks about how the compounding effect of playing Fullback eventually took its toll. He then took a medical sales job where after 7 short months he decided to find his way back to the Iowa weight room as an intern for Coach Chris Doyle and the Iowa Strength Staff. After completing internship a full time opening became available and Mark stepped into an official coaching position. He took a job as Head Strength coach at Southeast Missouri St. for one year before again realizing that he wanted to move a different direction. Mark's career at Iowa is one that is widely known as he finished Top 5 in Hawkeye history in Yards, Touchdowns, and Carries.

Today we go Live with Shaun Beyer, product of Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School where he excelled in multiple sports. After arriving at Iowa Shaun was in a position purgatory where he could have played multiple positions, but eventually landed at receiver due to depth issues. After his freshman year Shaun's size allowed him to switch to Tight End, and follow the path of guys like Kittle, Fant, and Hockenson. We dive into why those guys are great and what he took away from playing behind them as well as why Iowa is so great at producing tight ends. We talk a little about how living the D1 lifestyle changed Shaun and developed him along with the intensity of the off season program. We talk about how Covid affected not only him but the 2020 Hawks as a whole and how that manifested itself early in the season, and we finish with how Shaun is now seeking an opportunity in the NFL and we get his pitch on why a pro team should take a chance. All of this and more!
Drake AD Brian Hardin joins the show and Tyler Kluver to talk Hawkeyes
Tristan joins the 2 time guest short list from his recently purchased home in Tampa, Florida. We had Tristan on for Episode 84 in January of 2020 as he was preparing for the combine and NFL Draft, and it has been a wild 13 months in his life since. In that time he was drafted 13th overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who 1 month previous became the destination for Tom Brady. He battled through the oddity that was Covid protocol and figuring out the NFL as a rookie in 2020. Became the starting right tackle for the Bucs, who obviously made their run to World Champions just over a month ago. We talk Brady, TB12, diet, buffalo wild wings, training, figuring out Tampa, Coach Polasek and Coach Ferentz, the army of D linemen he faced in his first year, being snubbed, Luka Garza, He gives his opinion on Spencer Lee vs the Walkons on the mat, we talk having millions of dollars, death row meal, and a whole lot more.
We went back, and by twitter fan poll, put together a compilation of some of the best WUW moments through this point. Some of these are great blasts from the past and it was really fun to reflect back on some of our old episodes, enjoy!
Tim Polasek was most recently the Offensive line coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and now steps in as the Offensive coordinator for the Wyoming Cowboys in 2021. Coach Polasek was at Iowa for 4 seasons, including our senior year in 2017. We talk all about how he found himself in Iowa City, the energy he brings to every single day, coaching guys like Wirfs, James Daniels, and Tyler Linderbaum, what it was like to take over a top 10 position coaching job in the country, learning under Coach Ferentz and what makes him special, the turmoil of the 2020 summer and the ensuing results of the 2020 football season, and what his goals are moving forward in his new position.
Dalles is from Palo, Iowa just northwest of Cedar Rapids. Like many Iowa football players, Coach Reese Morgan was the recruiting connection from high school to the next level, and after Coach recognized Dalles while recruiting fellow Hawkeye Shaun Beyer, Dalles turned down multiple next level track and field opportunities to walk on and play football for the Hawkeyes. Dalles talks about living his dream in the black and gold, fighting through a crazy off season that was 2020, and relives his favorite memories as a hawk. Dalles became a viral sensation with his singing ability as well in the summer of 2019 when his original song 'We Wave', a piece about the Iowa childrens hospital and waving tradition, blew up on facebook. The video has totaled over a million views and sent Dalles into a new path that he is continuing post athlete career. We discuss all of this and more. In this episode we reflect on how grateful we are to bring you guys this show, and how it truly is incredible that some of our stuff can help listeners get through tough days. We talk the GOAT Tom Brady and what makes him so great, and his teammates, former Hawkeyes, Tristan Wirfs and Anthony Nelson getting their first Super Bowl Ring. We discuss the departure of Tim Polasek and Derrick Foster from the Iowa coaching staff and what that means for the Hawks moving forward. How do you replace a guy, what do you look for, and who is the right fit? And finally we discuss the recent slide of Iowa Basketball and what they have to do to turn things around.
John is from Indiana was a part of our class that joined the Hawks in 2013. John was actually the first guy on campus for Spring semester that year after graduating high school early. He started at Linebacker and switched to fullback, where he saw several starts in 14', after some injuries at the FB position left us searching for someone to fill the role. Drake and John have a fun conversation about the life of a Fullback. After that year John found himself looking for an identity in the program and found his way to Arizona as a transfer. He talks about about the Iowa edge and what makes the Hawks different, and why Iowa prepared him for the business world, which we catch up on as well.

2020 continues to 2020. Topics discussed are the Saturday College slate, the Ravens making us look dumb as hell, Jeff Brohm having COVID and how that affects week 1 for the Hawks, and 8 of our former teammates trying to Cash in and retire in the Bahamas. Its a fun time.
Today we jump on to talk the weekend of college football and how Oklahoma is the worst tackling team in the country. Iowa state was able to get the win over the sooners to improve to 2-1. Texas TCU Over was never a doubt and the rest of the college slate sucked. The Big Ten season creeps closer and closer. We talk about if Nile Kinnick would start for todays Hawkeyes as well as how COVID found its way into more NFL organizations this week, and we finish by ranking all 8 of Iowa's opponents this season on 'Big Game' potential.
Mr. Tyler Kluver is a former, Hawkeye long snapper and the host of the Washed Up Walkons podcast. Back in high school, Mr. Kluver realized that the only way he could make it onto a college football team was by becoming a long snapper. So, he spent hours snapping footballs in his front yard. Finally, after tons of hard work and his graduation, his goal was reached. After walking on to the Hawkeyes, he became the starting long snapper. His story of inspiration doesn't stop there. More recently, during the pandemic, Mr. Kluver was laid off. However, he leveraged the fan support he had earned from becoming a college football player and started his own fitness business, which has turned out to be pretty successful. Along with his story, Mr. Kluver provides us with some "tricks of the trade" for becoming a college football player and dealing with depression after transitioning from the hyped, college football life to a slower-paced, "real" life. Check out his full bio on our website: https://www.aimingforthemoon.com/Washed Up Walkons: https://www.thewashedupwalkons.com/
On today's episode, Jeff is joined by former University of Iowa long snapper, Tyler Kluver. Tyler is the host of the popular podcast, Washed Up Walkons, and the boys talk about Big Ten Football being back, the inspiration for his podcast, and what is like playing against players like Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffery.
Kyle, like us, graduated in the class of 2013 and found his way to Iowa State from South East Polk High School. A tremendous 3 sport athlete in high school he was a top QB prospect in the state his junior and senior year. After battling ACL injuries(3) he transitioned from QB to holder on special teams and started for the Cyclones in 2016 and 2017. We discuss a wide range of topics inside the over arching theme of the Cy-Hawk rivalry as well as some talk about the Iowa State's first performance this year. Some nerdy special teams talk gets mixed in as well as looking back on living out the Iowa kids dream.
