Der 33-jährige Fußballer hat mit seiner DJK in rund 30 Jahren Vereinszugehörigkeit zahlreiche Höhen und Tiefen miterlebt. Viele Menschen mit Parkinson ziehen sich aus Scham über ihre Krankheit und deren Symptome aus dem öffentlichen Leben zurück. Der aus New York stammende Musiker Nenad Bach, selbst an Parkinson erkrankt, wollte dem etwas entgegensetzen. 2017 gründete er die Initiative PingPongParkinson, um Betroffenen durch gemeinsames Tischtennisspielen neue Lebensfreude zu schenken. In Deutschland gibt es die Bewegung seit 2020 – und sie wächst stetig. In dieser Episode besucht Christoph Grätz die PingPongParkinson-Gruppe im Schulzentrum Stoppenberg in Essen. Jeden Dienstag treffen sich dort 12 bis 20 Spieler*innen, um gemeinsam an der grünen Platte zu trainieren – mit beeindruckenden Effekten: Viele berichten von einer spürbaren Verbesserung ihrer Symptome. Zu Wort kommen unter anderem: • Annette Paul (57), Leiterin einer Selbsthilfegruppe in Essen, die regelmäßig an der PPP-Gruppe teilnimmt. • Peter Renneberg (69), ehemaliger Apotheker, der seit zweieinhalb Jahren dabei ist – gemeinsam mit seiner Frau. Er erzählt, wie Tischtennis ihm hilft und was den besonderen „spirit“ der PPP-Gruppe ausmacht. • Olaf Wetzel (63), Trainer der Gruppe, der mit großer Bewunderung über die Sportler*innen spricht. • Helga Grell (72), die mit ihrer Schwester kommt – weniger aus sportlichen Ambitionen, sondern wegen des gemeinsamen Miteinanders. Auch Tobias Papies (42), Sportwissenschaftler und stellvertretender sportlicher Leiter beim DJK Franz Sales Haus e.V., erzählt von seinem Engagement. Seit 18 Jahren trainiert er mit Leidenschaft Menschen aller Altersgruppen und Fähigkeiten im Tischtennis – und war maßgeblich an der Gründung der PPP-Gruppe in Essen beteiligt. Wir hatten den sportlich Verantwortlichen für die 1. Mannschaft der DJK Arminia Klosterhardt an unseren Mikros sitzen. André hat uns Einblicke in die Mannschaft des Landesligisten gewährt. Diverse Sprachnachrichten für "Standard-Stange" dürfen in dieser Folge natürlich nicht fehlen.Vielleicht erfahren wir ja auch, was für ein Typ unser Gast auf Mannschaftsfahrten war. David James Keaton is a brilliant and hilarious author. He's put out a hefty stack of books, and created some of the most entertaining podcast moments I've captured in the thirteen years I've been doing this. The book switches between a night of ill-fated revelry, and flashbacks to the partygoers' early lives, stories that challenge our sympathy for their plight in the current day. From shark people to prison crank calls, bar heists to assembly line mishaps. SHALLOW ENDS is jammed with wild stories and ridiculous situations, all anchored by Keaton's ability to write stories that we all deeply relate to. We also talk about a movie that is an influence on the book even though he wrote the book before learning the story even existed. It's a film called THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON'T THEY? Which has also been a book, and I believe a play. It's about the dancing marathons that happened back in the post-depression era. Wildly exploitative, dangerous, and cruel never-ending events of misery. DJ KSLY (K-Sly) is the first Asian female DJ to achieve mainstream success and has been a trailblazer since the '90s. Starting when DJing was just a hobby, she turned it into a career, aiming for multi-platform success as a Party, Radio, and TV DJ. KSLY disrupted the industry, paving the way for more women DJs. She is now part of the female-led Prism DJs agency and a proud Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. member. Her career began at community and college radio, taking her to Atlanta, Las Vegas, and back to her roots in LA. TV opportunities in LA led to appearances with major networks. KSLY has sat down with the most successful musical acts of yesterday and today. She competed in a nationally televised DJ competition and held domestic and international residencies at major events. As an Asian woman, KSLY changed the face of radio and TV by breaking barriers and setting new standards in the industry.  She currently has a summer residency at Terranea Resort and is gearing up for exciting new music releases. Her eclectic musical taste blends Hip-Hop, House, R&B, Dancehall, and Old-School Funk, creating electrifying dance floor experiences.  In this episode, DJ K-Sly discusses her journey from being born in Korea to moving to the U.S. as a child, her challenges growing up with a single mother, and how her diverse upbringing influenced her love for hip-hop and DJing.
