Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
This Halacha was developed from multiple transcriptions of Rabbi Eli Mansour's lectures in the "Beki'im BaHalacha" series. The original audio recordings for this Halacha were delivered on the following dates and can be accessed here: 06-24-25 Audio File ; 06-25-25 Audio File ; 06-26-25 Audio File ; 06-29-25 Audio File The Three Weeks , spanning from Shiba Asar BeTammuz (the 17th of Tammuz) through Tisha B'Av , is a time designated for national mourning over the tragedies that befell Am Yisrael throughout history—most notably the destruction of both Bateh Mikdash. Our Sages instituted a number of customs and halachot during this period to reduce our joy and help us internalize the gravity of the losses. While the Nine Days and week of Tisha B'Av carry stricter restrictions, even from the start of the Three Weeks, there are behaviors and activities that should be avoided due to their association with excessive joy, lightheartedness, or distraction from mourning. Entertainment and Recreational Outings The Rambam writes (Hilchot Ta'aniyot 5:1) that the proper response to communal suffering is to reflect and act—not to carry on with business as usual. For this reason, it is customary to avoid outings and events that are designed purely for fun or celebration . This includes: Attending concerts, comedy shows, musical performances, or theater productions Going to amusement parks, carnivals, bowling alleys, or arcades Group activities or trips organized for entertainment and leisure Recreational barbecues, parties, or similar festive gatherings The She'elat Ya'abets and Ben Ish Hai (Parashat Devarim) both emphasize avoiding such joyous outings during this period. Rav Moshe Feinstein (Iggerot Moshe, O.C. vol. 3, siman 87) also addressed recreational gatherings and ruled that they should be avoided even when music is not involved. Sports and Physical Activity Recreational sports are another category of concern. While physical activity for health is permitted, engaging in sports for fun—especially if competitive and emotionally charged—should be avoided. Casual jogging or gym workouts for health reasons are permitted . Joining in competitive team sports, tournaments, or pickup games, especially those that attract crowds or bring heightened excitement, are discouraged . Swimming for fitness may be permitted during the Three Weeks, but not during the Nine Days. The Mishna Berura (O.C. 551:16) cites that joyous activity should be limited even during the early part of the Three Weeks, especially when it mimics festivity. Poskim such as Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky extend this to include sporting events with celebratory atmospheres. Shopping for Enjoyment During the Three Weeks, one should refrain from shopping for enjoyment , even if no Beracha Shehechiyanu would be required. This includes: Buying new clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, or electronics Making home décor upgrades or indulging in hobby-related purchases Shopping sprees or window-shopping done for leisure Essential purchases (like school supplies or items urgently needed) are permitted. If one finds a limited-time deal or discount that will not be available later, they may buy the item during the Three Weeks but should wait to use it until afterward , if possible. This is ruled by Rav Moshe Feinstein and others (Iggerot Moshe, O.C. vol. 3, siman 80). Travel and Leisure Trips The Three Weeks are also considered a time of danger (see Shulchan Aruch O.C. 551:18), and for this reason, many refrain from leisure travel or long road trips. Rav Ovadia Yosef (Yechave Da'at 1:37) writes that unless there is a real need, vacation trips should be postponed until after Tisha B'Av. This includes: Cruises, resort stays, or beach vacations National parks or nature sightseeing trips Visiting distant relatives for enjoyment rather than necessity However, if the travel is required for business, medical needs, family obligations, or other pressing reasons, it is permitted—though one should still avoid turning it into a joyous excursion. Maintaining the Right Tone Some mistakenly believe that the Three Weeks require sadness or depression. On the contrary, the Torah teaches that a Jew must always serve Hashem with joy (Devarim 28:47). But during periods of national mourning, the tone of that joy must be subdued and introspective. The Gemara in Ta'anit 30b teaches, "Mi'shenichnas Av, mema'atin b'simha"—as the month of Av begins, we reduce our joy. We do not eliminate joy, but we avoid external expressions of frivolity and celebration. This balance is echoed by the Aruch HaShulchan (O.C. 551:23) , who writes that one's behavior during these days should reflect a seriousness and awareness of our national losses, even if one continues to smile, work, and engage with others normally. Summary During the Three Weeks, one should avoid: Concerts, shows, amusement parks, and festive outings Competitive or recreational sports done for fun Unnecessary shopping for non-essential or luxury items Travel taken for leisure or vacation Parties and gatherings unrelated to Misvot This helps us remain focused on the deeper meaning of this period—a time to reflect, mourn, and yearn for the rebuilding of the Bet HaMikdash.

In this powerful episode, Kate has a conversation with her former mentor, Intimacy Expert & Pleasurable Weight Loss Coach Jena la Flamme, who guides women to absolutely fall in love with themselves, with their female body and how to create a deeply sensual relationship with the most important person in your life - YOU. Most women are at war with their bodies - obsessive diets, cleanses galore, incessant critical thoughts, restriction, binge eating, cosmetic surgery etc. It is a rare thing for a woman to deeply love her own beauty and body - which is a byproduct of many industries who are profiting off a woman's low self-worth. The tragedy? Our idea of physical beauty and what defines it, isn't even our own. This episode is essential for ALL women, whether you are desiring to lose a few pounds, or you just want to fall in love with the skin that you're in - Jena is masterful at showing women a new, much more pleasurable and empowering way. She has been working with women for 15+ years and her unique approach that has transformed thousands of women's lives has been featured in Elle, Glamour, The New York Times & Prevention Magazine. She teaches that pleasure is not a drawback to a healthy, fulfilled life, but an essential, prerequisite ingredient. She calls her philosophy Pleasurable Living. But she wasn't always this at home in her skin. For ten years, she struggled with bad body image, difficulty having an orgasm, poor sexual boundaries, compulsive eating, and weight gain. She despised her body, felt miserable about herself, and was highly suspicious of pleasure. She thought that indulging in pleasure would only get her into trouble. That was until Jena had a life-changing realization that her "issue" wasn't that she was having too much pleasure—it was that she wasn't having enough! However, as she learned to trust the wisdom of her body and of pleasure, she came to peace with her appetites and desires—for food, for sex, and for life—and felt great relief. She learned how to feel safe enjoying her body, and her body confidence transformed. She experienced a sensual and sexual renaissance. She blossomed like a flower, bringing growth to every area of her life. Since then, she has devoted her life to showing women around the world how to do the same. She guides them to reconnect with their bodies as wise, intelligent, intuitive, and pleasure-loving animals that support them to thrive. Her unique approach has been

This PBSE Podcast Episode 274, centers on a partner's heartfelt account of feeling objectified and emotionally disconnected during sex with her spouse, who is in recovery from porn addiction. Though he has given up porn and masturbation, their intimacy remains one-sided, leaving her feeling like a replacement for his addiction rather than a true partner in connection. Mark and Steve explore how sobriety alone isn't enough—emotional growth, mindfulness, and a complete rewiring of sexual expectations are essential for healing.Through neuroscience, they unpack how porn addiction distorts the brain's wiring around sex, creating a dopamine-driven pattern that prioritizes climax over connection. Recovery, then, requires more than behavioral change; it calls for a transformation of mindset, unlearning toxic scripts, and rebuilding intimacy through vulnerability and presence. The metaphor of “remodeling” becomes central: couples must tear down broken patterns and collaboratively design a new vision for their sexual relationship.Ultimately, the article calls couples to take back authorship of their story by replacing silence, shame, and autopilot sex with curiosity, honesty, and shared desire. With intention and effort, couples can elevate their sexual connection from a mechanical act to a space of mutual pleasure and deep intimacy—if they are willing to write that new narrative together. For a full transcript of this podcast in article format, go to: Sed Isn't Mutually Pleasurable in our Relationship. Hi everyone! The Body of Wisdom podcast is back, this time for a very special episode! In this episode, I'm opening up about a journey that's personal, raw, and life-affirming—our recent pain-free, pleasurable freebirth experience and the profound insights that came with it. Joined by my husband Mason, we're diving into what it's been like navigating (for the third time) pregnancy, birth, and the early days of postpartum, exploring not only the practical stuff but the deeper emotional and spiritual layers of birth, partnership, and parenthood. This episode is filled with reflections on love, growth, and the incredible capacities of the human body, oour true "body of wisdom," especially in those intense, transformative moments of birthing and nurturing life. I went into this birth with the quiet intention to experience a pain-free (possibly even pleasurable birth) and I got exactly that. It was the most beautiful, meditative, embodied experience. We also share about the conception, pregnancy and freebirth/pain-free birth prep process. Whether you're preparing for your own birth, curious about the process of birth, or simply here for a heartwarming story, I hope this episode resonates with and supports you on your journey to fully embody your wisdom. In this episode we discuss: The Power of Inner Preparation and Birth as a Transformative Experience - Mason and I reflect on the mental, emotional, and spiritual preparation involved in birth. From introspection and letting go of preconceived notions, to reaching a state of calm and clarity, we explore how intentional preparation helped transform the birth experience into one of pleasure and immanence. Surrendering to the Process of Birth and Embracing Vulnerability - Both of us share moments of self-doubt and vulnerability, discussing how accepting fears and relinquishing control opened up space for an empowering, peaceful, pleasant birth experience. We talk about letting go of the “need to conquer” whether it's fear, or birth itself, and the process of finding ease in self-inquiry, trust, gratitude, communication, and presence. Understanding and Respecting the Partner's Role in the Birth Space - We discuss how Mason found his role as a supportive presence—often without “doing” anything—and the delicate balance between stepping in and intruding in the 'birth magic' and holding space and bearing witness. The need for genuine, quiet presence over active assistance is highlighted as a way to honour the mother's autonomy and experience. Birth as a Sacred Dance with Nature and Spirituality - Drawing from Taoist and yogic perspectives, we discuss the visceral, almost spiritual connection experienced in birth. The physical, emotional, and cosmic aspects intertwined, creating a unique experience akin to a spiritual awakening—one that's grounding, powerful, and humbling. Healing, Recovery, and Early Postpartum Reflections - We share about the postpartum journey and adapting to a new family dynamic. Empowering Birth Choices and Recognising Inner Strength - This episode emphasises the strength in choosing a path that resonates personally—whether that's freebirth, midwifery support, or hospital care. By examining our own narratives around birth, we share insights on rewriting limiting beliefs and finding empowerment in personal choices. Navigating the Integration of Family and Spiritual Growth - We close with reflections on how birth and parenting deepen spiritual growth and connection. The conversation touches on the unique spiritual and practical union of parenthood, especially in guiding each child through life with gentleness, respect, and resilience. I am so excited to share this with you, and hope our story has given you a glimpse into the beauty, messy magic of birth and parenting young kids. Whether it sparked a new perspective, a shared laugh, or a moment of self-reflection, I'm grateful to have shared this space with you. This isn't an ableist episode full of executive function shame but it is an episode in honor of Virgo Season asking what are our systems, processes and practices for getting shit done and feeling good while doing it? I've been there, the over-extended teacher inspiring a classrooms worth of epiphanies but too tired to go home and fill the cup from which the curriculum flows. Maybe you've been there too, the over-extended teacher with a depleted capacity for your own curiosity. The healer with an over-committed calendar leaving no time to tend to your own spirit. The community organizer growing exhausted from the demands of parasocial relationships while your closest, most nourishing relationships suffer. How might checking in with our longings, our boundaries, our needs and nurturing a relationship within ourselves where we're allowed to want, to desire, to create, to rest, cultivate more secure attachments and relationships beyond ourselves? Down mood most of the time. Energy decrease, fatigue, and a slowed-down feeling. Pleasurable activities are no longer enjoyed. Remembering, concentrating, and decision making are more difficult. Eating problems. Sleep problems. Sense of hopelessness, helplessness, worthlessness, guilt. Ever recurrent aches/pains don't respond to treatment. Death thoughts, or a suicide plan. Symptoms of depression in young men may manifest as aggressive acting-out, irritability, low impulse control with inability to tolerate stress, and a greater willingness to take risk.

Sex is an essential aspect of marriage. Unfortunately, many couples are not experiencing the fullness of sexual intimacy that God intends for them. Let's explore how to cultivate a pleasurable sex life with your spouse.

So think of today’s episode as the all-you-need-to-know guide to good anal sex. Some of the topics we'll explore include what you need to know about anal douching, how to choose the right lube, tips for preparing and relaxing so that you can experience pleasure instead of pain, and more. I am joined once again by Dr. Evan Goldstein, who is the Founder and CEO of Bespoke Surgical, a leading private practice specializing in an elite standard of sexual health and wellness care for the gay community. He is also co-founder of the sexual wellness brand Future Method and author of the new book Butt Seriously: The Definitive Guide to Anal Health, Pleasure, and Everything In Between. Some of the topics we cover in this episode include: How can paying attention to diet and nutrition help pave the way for more pleasurable anal sex? What do people need to know about anal douching in order to optimize health and pleasure? Why is dilating an important part of preparation before anal sex? What are the best kinds of lube for anal sex? What are some good beginner tips and techniques for penetration? You can visit Evan’s website to learn more about him and his work. Got a sex question? In this episode, we're going to be talking about making penetration pleasurable, a how to make intercourse amazing, and how to close the orgasm chasm in your marriage, as well as some specific techniques on how to make sex with your spouse sweeter and more worthwhile. I love doing episodes like this because I learn a lot about how to make sex fun and meaningful in my own marriage. I'm reminded though that great sex is far more of a matter of the heart than it is about performance. I met Susan Bratton a year ago when we both shared the stage on Monica Tanner's intimacy summit. Susan is a woman in her sixties having sex like she's in her twenties. She's a gifted speaker and educator about sex and she covers a lot of material. I love how she helps me see what's possible for my wife and me in our own marriage bed. If you like this episode, you'll definitely like . . . ...our upcoming virtual retreat all about improving sex in your marriage this July! For this retreat, you and your spouse are going to get a hotel room Airbnb or send the kids to grandma's house so you have the house all to yourselves, and you'll join my wife and I live at Friday night, Saturday morning and Saturday night in three sessions. We'll give you a specific fun and sexy homework to try. The goal of this retreat is to explore sexuality in your marriage at a deeper level than you ever have. You'll walk away with new techniques, confidence, and learn new things about each other and more at an intimate level. Don't miss this event on July 12! More details on our website! And let's not forget . . . . . . our next in-person retreat in sunny St. George Utah, this October! This is what one past participants said about the retreat: The marriage and intimacy. Retreat was a life-changing experience for us. After 20 years of marriage, we wanted to take our marriage from good to great. During the weekend, we gained so many incredible insights on how we were constantly trying to fix each other, rather than ourselves, and making assumptions and putting expectations on each other that were false due to a lack of honest communication that had been shaped over the past decades of routine. We gained so many tools for improving connection and communication, but also changing our own attitudes about ourselves and our intimate life. What an incredible kickstart to the next phase of our marriage. And we can't wait to get started! These retreats are fun, romantic, deep, and instructive. We combine instruction and coaching into a powerful weekend. Your marriage deserves the very best investment of your time, talents and energy. So come vacation with us. It's limited to just 20 couples. So act now!

In this enlightening and off-the-record-style conversation, we uncover the emotions holding us back from ecstatic, pleasurable, even orgasmic birth. Emma opens up about her unexpected cesarean birth and how a woman who teaches other women about vaginal birth can feel confident in doing so despite her never experiencing a vaginal birth herself. Can you really re-wire your brain to increase the joy and peace in your pregnancy as well as have a pleasurable birth? Yes! You can! I know this because I did it and I have taught other women how to take their thoughts captive and use the tools found in the Bible, backed up by neuropsychology, to take the thoughts captive that are not serving you well and even causing illness and replace them with truth! This is powerful and I can't wait to share with you the first tool I used when rewiring my brain from fear based to faith. With over 3 million TikTok followers, Jen Hamilton is using social media to transform maternal healthcare. Featured in news media like The New York Times and CNN, Jen's mission is to prevent birth trauma, dispel labor & birth myths, and empower patients with evidence-based information. Her engaging and informative content has made her a trusted voice in the field, bridging the gap between patients and healthcare providers. She is a mom of 2 boys and 2 indoor chickens that wear diapers. She and her husband raise their "flock" in central NC. She still spends every weekend at the bedside, caring for laboring patients and their families. Though she travels the country sharing her message of improved maternal care, she has no plans to stop her bedside work. In This Episode: Bringing items from home like twinkle lights, essential oil diffusers, blankets, etc. can make the hospital room feel more comfortable. Choose a labor support partner who cares for you well when sick, not just assuming your partner will provide romance and back rubs. Clearly tell your care team what physical sensations and touches are pleasurable or triggering for you. Doulas help you feel heard and provide emotional and physical comfort measures in labor. Mentally prepare for labor by practicing coping techniques for short bursts of intense sensations. Key Takeaways: Preparation and getting in the right mindset is more important than a rigid birth plan Prioritize feeling respected, empowered and cared for over specific interventions Every painful sensation brings you closer to meeting your baby Fear and not feeling safe can stall labor - address emotional blocks Pivot in labor based on your bodily intuition, not expectations Key Quotes: "It's never a birth plan thing. It's never...riding on the support person. It's riding on that person's mental preparation for what they will experience." - Jen Hamilton “More than a birth plan, I want you to be thinking about birth vibes. I want you to think about how you want to be treated.” - Jen Hamilton Connect with Jen! TikTok: @_jen_hamilton Instagram: @_jen_hamilton_ Connect with Debra!
