Welcome to our summer interview series. This week Anna DeShawn leads us into a beautiful conversation that was had last week in Atlanta at the Saving Ourselves Symposium (SOS) conference organized by the Southern AIDS Coalition (SAC). The conversation is from the Friday morning plenary that took place at the conference. It's titled Black LGBTQ+ Representation in Entertainment moderated by Victor Jackson featuring Asiahn, Dyllon Burnside & Nicco Annan. I'm not giving the whole conversation but the second half which leads into the Q&A. I hope in the face of even the news I reported on today that you find hope in this conversation that we are still moving forward. That we are not going back into the closet. That we are not going anywhere. Donate to the Southern AIDS Coalition: https://southernaidscoalition.kindful.com/ Follow Southern AIDS Coalition on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/southernaidscoalition Follow Southern AIDS Coalition on Twitter: https://twitter.com/SouthernAIDSCo More on the Summer Interview Series The Queer News team is changing it up for the next couple of months so we have a little more time to enjoy the summer, our families, and rest. We hope you enjoy these conversations with some really wonderful queer folks doing good in the world. Those are the stories we want to amplify here on Queer News. During the interview series we won't leave queer news stories on the sidelines either. Anna will provide brief commentary about the top one or two queer news stories happening that we should be following. Not full stories but know we are still closely following the queer news feeds. You can always follow Anna on social media to stay up to date.

For this second episode of the #TrynaBeSomebody video podcast, we're interviewing Victor Jackson also known as Mr. Glam Rock Soul. Y'all he is a true light of love and honestly, I just wanted you all to experience him. Today's episode will be different than the usual content. Yes, the Tryna Be Somebody Video podcast is all about our creative careers but at the end of the day we're all human, and how we show up for every aspect of our lives matters. So, Victor and I will talk about his journey of seeing (negative) patterns in his life and how he worked through them. We'll talk about his journey of seeking therapy, how he's dealt with depression and grief, and a multitude of other tools he uses to show up as his best self. And of course, we'll also talk about his creative career as a performing artist, singer, actor, choreographer, and creative director. I hope this episode and the prompt at the end for self-reflection gives you the space necessary to question your healthy and unhealthy patterns. →CHECK OUT VICTOR! ↳Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mrglamrocksoul/ ↳Music on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0FyiChNQlJ7W24fWdDT7OK?si=_48D63QXRRiKq-5G_tJy8Q ↳LIVE. In this episode of Back Points, the great Victor Jackson discusses his wrestling career, as well as how his team succeeded in winning a state title against intense competition.
This episode is a roundtable discussion between Brittany, Maurisa, and Ajanaee. We discuss the way that friendship has sustained us and been the catalyst for our growth as writers. We also highlight other literary friendships that inspire and guide our practices (i.e Pat Parker and Audre Lorde, Cornelius Eady and Toi Derricotte, Willie Kinard and AsiahMae, etc) and how valuable community is to the development of Black writers. Life without father’ (1956), ‘House happy’ (1958), o ‘The girl in the torquoise bikini’ (1961).

Message from Victor Jackson on July 12, 2020
We were so thrilled to sit down and have a talk with these two great men. Our world is hurting and we're trying to figure out how to be a part of the solution. Thanks for joining the conversation. (forgive the background noise from Joumeel's mic. He was traveling for a family funeral but wanted to be on this call)
God has given him a message of love for the world today. The oppressed and oppressor have the responsibility to come in to alignment with Jesus Christ in this hour. Love is the answer.
Be blessed by the powerful ministry of Bro. Victor Jackson 9/8/19 @ The NOVA Church
