Jerk Gustafsson is a Swedish game developer whose career has been shaped by a builder's instinct — first in the physical world, and then in virtual ones. He left school at fifteen to work as a bricklayer, before discovering PC games in his twenties through Quake, the id Software classic that opened his eyes not only to play, but to the thrill of creating spaces of his own. After teaching himself level design through modding tools, he joined Starbreeze in 1998, where he worked on acclaimed titles including The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness, eventually stepping into a lead design role. Later, as a founding force at MachineGames, he helped guide the studio's bold revival of Wolfenstein with The New Order and The Old Blood. Today, as Studio Director, he has overseen the studio's expansion into some of its most ambitious work yet, most recently with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.Become a My Perfect Console supporter and receive a range of benefits at www.patreon.com/myperfectconsoleTake the Acast listener survey to help shape the show: My Perfect Console with Simon Parkin Survey 2025 Hosted on Acast. Send us Fan MailLife has a way of getting lifely — and this episode was born right in the middle of mine. In Episode 208, I get personal about a season that brought me to stillness, to my car, to my breath — and ultimately, to a word that changed everything for me this year. If you have ever found yourself waiting for the perfect moment to start again, or wondering if the hard thing you are going through has any light in it at all, this episode is for you. Come as you are. Start where you are. That is always enough. From a beloved novel to a spontaneous act of love from my son, from peer-reviewed science to a 14th century poet — I weave together the stories, the research, and the reminders that the light within you has never gone out. It may be quiet. It may be flickering. But it is there, and it has been there your whole life. I hope this episode helps you see it.Quote of the week: "I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being." — Hafiz of ShirazFina's 2025 Reading ListThe 48 Laws of Power — Robert GreeneThe Prince — Niccolò MachiavelliThe Art of War — Sun TzuQuotations from the Works of Mao Tse-Tung — Mao ZedongRight Thing Right Now — Ryan HolidayAwaken the Giant Within — Tony RobbinsThe Big Leap — Gay HendricksEmotional Intelligence — Bradberry & GreavesA Return to Love — Marianne WilliamsonNo Mud No Lotus — Thich Nhat HanhTao Te Ching — Translated by Stephen MitchellMindful Investor — Maria GonzalezEducated — Tara WestoverSlaughterhouse-Five — Kurt Vonnegut1929 — Andrew Ross SorkinBooks ReferencedDoerr, Anthony. Syvästi kaivaten - erään perheen kirjeitä Suomen sodasta on teos, joka perustuu Hakoisten kartanosta löydettyihin kirjeisiin ja muihin dokumentteihin. Eräänä päivänä Hakoisten kartanon mailla asuva Riikka-Maria Rosenberg siivosi kartanon niin kutsutun lönnkammaren-tilaa, salaista pientä huonetta yläkerrassa. Sitten tapahtui ihme. Ohjelman juontajana on Pia-Maria Lehtola.

Interview by Kris PetersIn any serious conversation about death metal, Vomitory's name is a must-mention. Formed in 1989, the Swedish band unleashed eight blistering albums between 1996 and 2011, cementing their status as genre titans before parting ways in 2013. However, their retirement was short-lived, as they returned to the stage in 2019 to mark their 30th anniversary. Now, three years after the release of their critically acclaimed comeback album All Heads Are Gonna Roll in 2023, Vomitory are back with their latest beast, In Death Throes, due out on April 10.According to drummer Tobias Gustafsson, while the unmistakable Vomitory sound remains, the new album cranks up the intensity. “In Death Throes picks up where All Heads Are Gonna Roll left off, but we've turned the intensity up a notch. Christian (Fredriksson, new guitarist) quickly found his place and even contributed music to four killer tracks. These additions bring a bit of diversity to our sound without straying too far from the formula.”HEAVY sat down with drummer Gustafsson to get the full rundown, asking him to dive deeper into the musical side of the album and what Vomitory were going for this time around."We continued on the same path as we did on our comeback album All Heads Are Going to Roll," he offered. "So we continued writing in the in the same way. But in hindsight, this new album turned out a bit more intense than the previous one, which is not a bad thing for a death metal band (laughs)."In the full interview, Tobias goes into more detail about how In Death Throes picks up where All Heads Are Gonna Roll left off, the added intensity in the music, and how new guitarist Christian Fredriksson contributed to the overall product. We spoke about the early days of the band and where they fit in, the parting of ways in 2013 and his feelings at the time, the circumstances that brought them back together and how much planning was behind that decision, the importance of their comeback album All Heads Are Going to Roll and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
It's Moritz Seider's world, we're just living in it. Tune in as we start by recapping the first of Detroit's two wins over Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, including goals and strong play from John Leonard, James van Riemsdyk, Elmer Soderblom, Moritz Seider, Dylan Larkin, Simon Edvinsson, and Andrew Copp, John Gibson's 7th straight win, and more from Todd McLellan's squad (4:20). Next, the Red Wings going back-to-back thanks to another goal from Leonard (filling in for Patrick Kane alongside Alex DeBrincat and Andrew Copp), Lucas Raymond (from Sandin-Pellikka and Finnie), Cam Talbot's strong game, and Moritz Seider's absolutely electric overtime game winner at Little Caesars Arena (12:55). We then take a look at Detroit's standings in the Atlantic division and the road ahead for Steve Yzerman's team (23:00). After that, we dive into the numbers behind Moritz Seider's superstar-level season, how he's surpassed even Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar in some metrics, how Simon Edvinsson has helped free up his game, and his candidacy for the Norris and Hart Trophies (28:45). We then discuss Marco Kasper's sophomore slump, as well as the Grand Rapids Griffins' AHL record-setting start the season (with Cossa, Brandsegg-Nygard, Holl, Gustafsson, and others leading the way under Dan Watson) (37:25) before jumping into NHL news (Berggren in St. Louis, Marchand, Danault and Marchment trades, & more). Next, the brutal loss to Barry Trotz' Nashville Predators, including miscues from just about the entire team, Gustafsson and Hamonic on defense, how the team's play affects Finnie, Sandin-Pellikka, Danielson, Kasper ), & other young players, & more as Steve Yzerman's squad struggled on home ice, plus what's wrong with this team from its best players down to its depth in guys (like Copp, Compher, Johansson, etc.) (13:10). We then discuss whether Steve Yzerman should go all out for a guy like Quinn Hughes & how much that would fix (and the cost of acquisition), or what other depth moves would be needed to shore up the team (39:45). All of that & lots more before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:00:40) - enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving! Robin Gustafsson Linkedln:ssa.Epicmeets verkkosivut.Epicmeets Facebook, Instagram, Linkedln ja YouTube.-----Haluatko antaa palautetta? Another Monday, another round of “The Beauty of the Grand Rapids Griffins”. On these segments, our host, Elaine Shircliff, discusses a few things that she found beautiful surrounding the Griffins. On this week's episode I dive into the beauty of how defenseman Erik Gustafsson handled his daughter's Celiacs Diagnosis and dive into my own experience with having a gluten allergy, which is different than Celiacs but the diet and some of the symptoms are similar. I also touched on his mindset since being sent down to the Griffins.Share your favorite moments from the past week with Elaine at any of her socials below! ---------TikTok : @imaraindancerYoutube : @gracedbyrainX: @GracedByRainPodBlueSky : @imaraindancer.bsky.socialFacebook: ElaineShircliffWriter------Graced By Rain LLC is run by Elaine Shircliff out of Michigan. Tune in as we open by discussing the loss in which J.T. Compher & Emmitt Finnie (from Dylan Larkin) scored while the rest of the Detroit Red Wings didn't do much else, as the absence of Patrick Kane and Lucas Raymond being injured disrupted the forward group, John Gibson didn't stand out, the penalties and errors from the best players in Edvinsson and Seider down to the bottom of the lineup in Rasmussen and Berggren all led to a loss to Colten Ellis, a rookie goalie making his NHL debut (4:15). We then discuss Todd McLellan's difficult spot with the forwards, as two key injuries means a lack of solid lines to utilize, how the depth players aren't seizing their opportunities, DeBrincat and Brandsegg-Nygard aren't offering scoring firepower, and what Steve Yzerman can do to help fix the issue (14:25). After that, Dylan Larkin's impressive start to the season (alongside Emmitt Finnie) & if it's a sign of new heights (30:15), Carter Mazur's hot start and Nate Danielson's path back (33:30), more on the Gustafsson, Holl, Hamonic trade rumors and what Steve Yzerman may do there (36:10), Max Plante's dominance in the NCAA (37:55), whether Michael Brandsegg-Nygard could benefit from joining Carter Mazer, Amadeus Lombardi, and soon Nate Danielson with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL, or if he's better to stick it out in Hockeytown (39:35), and what to make of Alex DeBrincat's goalless streak to start the season (44:30).

We are officially on Steve Yzerman NHL Trade Deadline watch...sleep lightly! Also, who we think Steve Yzerman may target (Cozens? Byram? Rantanen? Boeser? Rakell? Mittelstadt? Donato? defense help for down the lineup with Johansson and Edvinsson?), sell (Holl? Tarasenko? Gustafsson?), or if it's more likely he stands pat. (29:50) We also take a look at trades across the NHL, and who still remains on the trade market (Petterson?) (49:15). After that, we're joined by DJ Bean of What Chaos! to discuss the downturn of Marchand, Pastrnak, McAvoy, and the Boston Bruins, what's next for them & if Zadorov would be a good acquisition, thoughts on the Red Wings' future, & lots more (59:10) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:26:20) - enjoy! Husso traded, Yzerman with a world of cap space, Simon Edvinsson firing multiple clappers into Minnesota's net...it's been an interesting few days. After discussing the 1 year anniversary of Patrick Kane's "Showtime" moment called by Ken Daniels in Chicago (00:00)...tune in as we start by discussing the Detroit Red Wings and their 3-2 win on the road in a rematch against the Minnesota Wild, including Simon Edvinsson's multiple (surprising) slapshot goals, Gustafsson finding Vladimir Tarasenko for a nice play, Elmer Soderblom and Albert Johansson combining to assist an all Swedish goal, Marco Kasper continuing to thrive on a line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat's point streak, & more (5:20). After that, a Stanley Cup Playoff race update as Todd McLellan's team looks to fend off the (upcoming x2) Columbus Blue Jackets in the Stadium Series game, the New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, & others (13:05). Next, Steve Yzerman trades Ville Husso to Pat Verbeek & the Anaheim Ducks, Andrew Copp is out for the season (after playing well with DeBrincat and Patrick Kane), and roughly $14 million in cap space being available to the Hockeytown team at the NHL trade deadline - do they target a big splash like Rantanen, Marner, Petterson, or Cozens? Stand pat? Binnington or another unexpected move? (24:40) After that, NHL news including Trevor Zegras' suspension for the hit to the head of Michael Rasmussen (47:10), the Boston Bruins on the downturn and whether Brad Marchand, Nikita Zadorov, or even David Pastrnak could be available, & more (54:05) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:05:00) - enjoy! This week's podcast is a discussion among friends. FM Donny Ariel is an NYC based former scholastic champion who has attained 3 IM Norms. These days he is a working dad, who has recently decided to pursue not only the IM title, but the Grandmaster title as well. (Donny is chronicling this journey on his YouTube channel, The Road to Chess Grandmaster). GM Jan Gustafsson, as many of you know, is a renowned commentator, Chessable author, trainer, and frequent guest on Perpetual Chess. Jan and I are skeptical that Donny can attain the grandmaster title given his other obligations, but Donny is adamant that we overstate the difficulty of chess improvement. In discussing Donny's quest, we tackle such questions as: Is a coach necessary in the digital age? How important are openings at Donny's level? How much improvement can one attain through changing your psychological approach rather than training? What is Donny's “wall of haters”? What trait do those who have earned the GM title have in common, according to Jan? If not earning the GM title, what might Donny's true goal be? This was an entertaining conversation in which Jan actually gave more earnest chess improvement advice than he has in prior episodes. Timestamps of topics discussed are below. 0:00- Subscribe to my chess newsletter! https://benjohnson.substack.com/ Subscribe to FM Donny Ariel's YouTube Channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DonnyArielChess 0:02- What is Donny's “Why?” Why is he pursuing the GM title? 15:00- Does Jan think that Donny needs a coach? 17:00- What is the “Wall of Haters?” 22:00- Patreon mailbag question- “How is Donny approaching studying?” 25:00- Jan's opening advice to Donny Mentioned: Reimagining 1.
