A McFlurry of controversy is over in Wānaka - with a proposal for the region's first-ever McDonald's declined. The District Council has turned the fast food giant's resource application down after strong pushback from locals concerned about food waste and pollution. It planned a 450-metre site by the Mount Iron Roundabout. Deputy mayor Quentin Smith says in the proposed setting - McDonald's wasn't a good fit. He explained if McDonald's had wanted to set up in the town centre or a commercial zone, it's likely little could be done to stop it. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Nick welcomes food writer and horror fanatic Marnie Shure to the podcast to dive into her latest horror film reviews (including a Jamie Lee Curtis classic!) and discuss the upcoming Mortified event. They also chat about some fun food stories, like McDonald's secret menu Birthday Cakes and the fact that Mickey D's can now repair their own McFlurry machines. Plus, just in time for the holiday, they rank five Thanksgiving-flavored foods! Then, Esmeralda Leon joins Nick to chat about Pluto's 90's Movie Channel, her love of Jonny Lee Miller, the unfortunate sitcoms of Chuck Lorre, and the classic TV trope of "The Interchangeable White Guy." They also taste another delicious snack from Italy! [Ep299]
Some corporate programs really do work. One has convinced millions of kids to read millions of books for more than 40 years by promising them the perfect incentive - free pizza. Send us a textWelcome to another episode of Yappin N Shxt! In today's episode: Baseball world series and fun facts!American Airlines is testing a new technology that audibly alerts passengers if someone tries to board before their group is allowed. The new system makes a loud alert sound when an out-of-order boarding pass is recognized, taking the pressure off the gate agent to confront the passenger.American Airlines said the system is testing well at its trial airports in Albuquerque, Tucson, and Washington, DC.Thanks to a ruling by the US Copyright Office on Friday, you're less likely to encounter a broken McFlurry machine starting today. The machines' software is copyrighted work; the DMCA states that only the manufacturer of such equipment can bypass the digital locks to provide maintenance.Franchise owners can hire outside help to fix the machines instead of waiting on the manufacturer, Taylor, to send one of its technicians, ending a monopoly on the repairs.Yappin N Shxt is a production of Lost Dawgs Media.Listen to us on all of your favorite podcasting apps!Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yappinnshxtpod/

Happy Holloween! McDonald's ice cream machines won't be broken down as often. McDonald's franchise owners will now be allowed to use companies other than Taylor, the long-standing and often controversial supplier, to repair its notoriously unreliable ice cream machines. Previously, McDonald's franchises were restricted to Taylor's services for maintenance and repairs, which many claimed led to prolonged downtime and costly repair processes. The new policy, approved amidst growing complaints and even a Federal Trade Commission investigation into the monopolistic practices around the machines, opens the door for alternative service providers, potentially making McDonald's ice cream machines more reliable and accessible for customers craving a McFlurry without the infamous "out of order" notice.

McDonald's ice cream machines have developed a lousy reputation for being broken when you visit the restaurant, largely due to strict copyright laws that only permit specially licensed technicians to legally repair them. The manufacturers have to license each technician, and they put locks on the McFlurry machines to prevent others from repairing them; A federal jury ruled Friday that Masimo smartwatches infringed Apple patents, but Apple isn't getting a big payday.
