When questioned about Washington's prior claims that Coogler was developing the film with a role intended for him specifically, the director confirmed them, saying, “there's no fiction out there about that”. In unrelated, but still Marvel news, tickets for The Fantastic Four: First Steps went on sale last week, crashing several major theaters online ticketing services and accompanied by a new trailer that appears to show us our first look at Franklin Richards. On the TV side of things, per Deadline sources, Schitt's Creek actor Emily Hampshire has joined the cast of the upcoming Vision Disney Plus series as E.D.I.T.H., the artificial intelligence that appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home. And finally, a second trailer for Ironheart was released on Monday.Late last week, Superman director and DC Studios co-head, James Gunn took to social media, as he is want to do, to announce and celebrate the completion of the film's final visual effects shot, with which he claimed the film to be 100% done ahead of its July 11 release. In the wake of that announcement Gunn took the opportunity to address fan questions surrounding the film's runtime, which he confirmed to be 2 hours and 9 minutes including credits and post credit scenes, while also kiboshing any speculation that Warner Bros had forced a shorter, mandated runtime, saying there was zero truth to it and that Warner Bros could not have interfered even if they wanted to, as it's a DC Studios film. All of this is compounded by rumors that DC Studios will not be focusing on any of their films at SDCC and Gunn's cagey Entertainment Weekly interview from earlier today where he claimed the DCU's Wonder Woman film is being written as we speak.Time for another good old fashioned trailer park, featuring the highly anticipated follow-up to last year's breakout hit, Wicked: For Good, whose first trailer garnered 113 million views in its first 24 hours – and our first full length trailer for Noah Hawley's upcoming FX series, Alien: Earth, which also announced the series for an August 12 premiereMarvel Animation premiered the first episode of the Disney Plus series Eyes of Wakanda during a panel at the Annecy Animation Festival in France, Monday morning. During the panel we learned from director Todd Harris the show will be “anthology-adjacent” and will consist of four episodes.Mia Goth has joined Ryan Gosling in Star Wars: Starfighter, the feature from director Shawn Levy. Although casting details are scarce at the moment, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that she will be playing a villain. HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series has announced nine actors playing key roles for its first season tackling Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The added cast includes Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, will reprise the role on Broadway. Felton will join the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway starting Nov. 11, for a 19-week engagement through March 22, 2026. A VR game based on Marvel's Deadpool franchise is set to launch later this year from Meta Quest with Neil Patrick Harris voicing the Merc with a Mouth. The game will launch sometime later this year.

Case and Jmike are joined by Doug Lief (from the Nostalgium Arcanum podcast) to talk about a family that's pretty super, The Incredibles! Overview In Podcast episode 142 of Men of Steel, hosts Case Aiken and Jmike Folson, alongside guest Doug Lief, delve into a comprehensive analysis of Disney's The Incredibles through the lens of Superman fandom. They explore the film's connections to other superhero media, notably its references to 60s Batman and Fleischer Superman, while debating the film's overall tone, which Case describes as having an 'angry' directorial voice. The discussion emphasizes Mr. Incredible as a Superman analog, revealing how his secret identity as Bob Parr reflects an average man grappling with superhero responsibilities amid family dynamics. The team draws parallels between the family members' powers and their roles, likening the villain Syndrome to a failed fan archetype obsessed with eliminating exceptionalism. Additionally, they analyze the film's aging animation, contextualize its place in the superhero genre before the rise of the MCU, and celebrate its blend of action and relatable family themes. The episode culminates in discussing the film's unresolved questions about the necessity of superheroes in society, concluding that it adeptly balances the extraordinary with the everyday. Notes ️ Introduction and Context (01:12 - 15:47) Case Aiken and Jmike Folson host the Men of Steel podcast with guest Doug Lief The discussion focuses on Disney's The Incredibles (2004) from a Superman fan perspective Doug mentions the movie's connections to Watchmen and other superhero media The hosts establish that the film is a love letter to superheroes with influences from 60s Batman, James Bond, and Fleischer Superman Case acknowledges he likes but doesn't love the movie, finding it has an 'angry' directorial voice ️ Mr. Incredible as Superman Analog (15:47 - 24:52) The group analyzes Mr. Incredible (Bob Parr) as a Superman analog Bob Parr's name means 'average' - perfect for a secret identity His job at an insurance company creates dramatic irony (helping after harm vs. preventing it) The hosts discuss Mr. Incredible's durability, strength, and physical capabilities The film explores the tension between superhero responsibility and family obligations The 'Bob Parr' identity has real value to him beyond just being a disguise Family Dynamics and Powers (24:52 - 39:20) The Incredibles compared to Fantastic Four but with a nuclear family structure Each family member's powers serve as metaphors for their roles: Elastigirl must 'bend over backwards' for her family Violet wants to be invisible/blend in as a teenager Dash wants to show off and stand out with his speed Holly Hunter praised for her performance as Elastigirl The married couple dynamic shows mature flirtation and partnership Sarah Vowell's performance as Violet highlighted despite not being a professional actress Syndrome as Villain (39:20 - 54:00) Syndrome analyzed as Jimmy Olsen gone evil or fan-turned-Lex Luthor His character represents fandom and mediocrity wanting to eliminate specialness Syndrome observes and counters heroes' weaknesses but fails to examine his own His fatal flaw is wearing a cape, which Edna Mode had warned against The group discusses connections to Alan Moore's works (Watchmen and Captain Britain) Syndrome's robot compared to the squid from Watchmen's ending Brad Bird reportedly denies Watchmen influence despite many parallels Jack-Jack and Supporting Characters (54:00 - 01:03:00) Jack-Jack has godlike powers (17 documented in the sequel) Compared to Franklin Richards from Fantastic Four Jack-Jack helps defeat Syndrome at the end of the film Edna Mode (voiced by Brad Bird) praised as an excellent character Her role as the Q-like gadget designer who incorporates fashion The group discusses superhero costume design elements Frozone and his 'Where's my super suit?' scene mentioned Animation and Film Context (01:03:00 - 01:16:40) The film's animation shows its age (from 2004) but holds up well due to stylization Technical limitations discussed (water effects, foliage, crowds) The hosts note the film predates the MCU (2008) and Nolan's Batman (2005) The Incredibles came at a transition point for superhero cinema The movie successfully balances superhero action with relatable family dynamics Character designs discussed (Mr. Incredible's face based on a Roman helmet) Final Battle and Themes (01:16:40 - 01:26:47) The Omnidroid battle showcases the family working together effectively Team power moves highlight each character's abilities and their coordination The question of 'do we need superheroes?' explored through the final battle Dash's athletic participation at the end (coming in second) compared to Superman hiding his abilities The film doesn't fully resolve questions about exceptional people's place in society The ending shows balance between superhero and ordinary life is beneficial Conclusions and Wrap-Up (01:26:47 - 01:38:04) The Underminer appearance sets up the sequel and references Mole Man from Fantastic Four The hosts appreciate the film's commentary on superhero tropes ('you caught me monologuing') The movie works well as both a superhero film and a family story Discussion about how the film has aged and its historical context in superhero cinema Podcast information and social media contacts shared Recommendation for Books that Burn podcast from the Certain POV network
And we did it. We made it to the last issue of FF. What a fun little series. Hickman put together some compelling stories and weaved them through this and Fantastic Four. We should take a moment to think about what we learned from our review of this series, FF, over this past year or so. Time has been spent on this book, and beer has been drunk. That all being said, what has been read and what has been discussed. We started with everyone thinking that the Human Torch was dead, and the hiring of one Mr. Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. This changed the team dynamics and beat of the team. We started with the team at a low point, but we end with a stronger and more knowledgeable family. There was also the introduction of the Future Foundation. This is the team that has our boy Alex having something mover tangible than what happened to him in the New Warriors, but not by much. At least he was treated like he had intelligence and not just a paper weight. But the Future Foundation was a great idea. A group of smart kids solving the world's problems. They were a weird group of punks who brought something different to the conversation. THe ensemble could have been used more effectively at certain points, but it was not bad. We discovered that AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics) having the bright idea to free The Wizard from prison and making him their leader proves that their ideas really aren't too advanced as they gave him back at the end of the series and asked for a do over. We learned that having Spider-man on your team is a great idea, while having Dr. Doom is an occasionally good idea if you can stand the Doomness of him. Also, inviting The Wizard, Diablo, The Mad Thinker and The High Evolutionary to stand with you for some out of the box thinking is a great way to to get betrayed and stabbed in the back when the chips are down by people that you just fed lunch to. A surprising number of issues deal with Black Bolt and The Inhumans interacting with the Supreme Intelligence and the Kree...we both found these issues, storylines and interactions to be boring, unwelcome and a distraction from important things, like what the Future Foundation kids are up to in their own title. Unfortunately, what they are often up to is standing off to a side, quietly observing the actions of other characters while storylines unfurl around them and their contributions amount to them being able to say that they were there too. Speaking of surprises, a surprising number of beings were turned into pets. Dr. Doom to a multiversal Reed Richards, a couple of multiversal Reed Richards' to a Supreme Intelligence, Johnny Storm to Annihilus, Annihilus to a resurrected Johnny Storm, and Galactus to a Franklin Richards. All in all it was a fun series and a worthwhile read, but it really shined when it dealt with the title holders of this series, the kids. Their developments, their growths, their failings and their foibles, their interactions and all the things that make them the foundation of the future. It's a weird world we live in when Agatha Harkness has her own TV show. In this episode, we'll discuss her major comic book appearances and leave you to guess which will make it into "Agatha All Along." Will she be nanny to a young Franklin Richards? Will she help Scarlet Witch find her real mom? Is she 20,000 years old? Will Firestar make a cameo and convince her not to punish all of humanity in retribution for the Salem Witch trials? Will she accidentally turn the Darkhold into a little boy? Find out what any of that means by listening to this week's Doombots Marvel Podcast!
See we all think we know who this TEEN character is on Agatha All Along... but do we really? Seems to be a bit of a mystery and the way I see it we are looking at 3 strong theories, any (if not all) of which could be correct. Let's talk about it... Theory 1: Wiccan (William "Billy" Kaplan-Altman)[1] is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character has been depicted as a member of the Young Avengers, a team of teenage superheroes, as well as Strikeforce and New Avengers. Created by writer Allan Heinberg and artist Jim Cheung, the character first appeared in Young Avengers #1 (April 2005).[4] The character's appearance is patterned on that of two prominent Marvel superheroes, Thor and Scarlet Witch (Wiccan's mother), both of whom are members of the Avengers. Like the Scarlet Witch, Wiccan possesses powerful magical abilities which make him a key member of his superhero team.Theory 2: The Child of Agatha Harkness. Agatha Harkness is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Fantastic Four #94 (October 1969).[1] Agatha Harkness is a powerful witch and one of the original witches from the Salem witch trials.[2] The character debuted as the governess of Franklin Richards and as an ally of the Fantastic Four.[3] She trained the Scarlet Witch / Wanda Maximoff in the art of magic.[4] She is the mother of the supervillain Nicholas Scratch. Agatha Harkness has also been a member of the Daughters of Liberty.[5] Initially an elderly woman, she managed to become young again and increased her strength.[6]Kathryn Hahn portrayed Agatha Harkness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) live-action miniseries WandaVision (2021), and reprised her role as the star of the spin-off series Agatha All Along (2024).Theory 3: He's Mephisto (all along)! Mephisot is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in Silver Surfer #3 (December 1968),[2] and was created by Stan Lee and John Buscema and based on Mephistopheles: a demon character from the Faust legend, who has sometimes been referred to as Mephisto. Introduced as a recurring adversary of the Silver Surfer and Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze), Mephisto has also endured as one of Spider-Man's most prominent adversaries, being responsible for Norman and Harry Osborn's respective transformations into the Green Goblin and Kindred; and for the superhero's loss of his marriage to Mary Jane Watson, considering their future daughter Spider-Girl his archenemy. Mephisto has often come into conflict with Doctor Strange, Doctor Doom, Scarlet Witch and other heroes of the Marvel Universe, being responsible both for the creation of the Cosmic Ghost Rider and the descents of Phil Coulson and Otto Octavius into villainy.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

"The Incredibles" captured our hearts, while its sequel left us scratching our heads... In this episode of the ZONE Podcast, JetBlackXtreme and our stellar guests Kokugatsu, Talos Gundam, Leia, Tinara, Saitama Smash, and Playboi, dissect both films, exploring the nostalgia of the original and the divided opinions on "The Incredibles 2." We reminisce about the classic charm of the first film and debate whether the sequel's focus on Helen (Elastigirl) managed to recreate that magic, while raising intriguing questions about Jack-Jack's potential and how he may parallel Marvel's Franklin Richards. What does it really mean to be a hero in a modern family? We delve into parenting dynamics, Bob's evolution from superhero to stay-at-home dad, and the underappreciated chaos of everyday heroism. We critique the continuity issues and character arcs in "Incredibles 2," pondering how the film's rushed plot and sidelining of the children affected its storytelling. Through a comparison of villains, from Syndrome's personal vendetta to Screenslaver's ideological battle, we reflect on the effectiveness of their arcs and how traditional and modern roles clashed in the sequel.Lastly, we tackle the portrayal of female empowerment, the trend of sympathetic villain backstories, and sibling dynamics that could have added depth to "Incredibles 2." Drawing parallels to media like "The Boys," we highlight how "The Incredibles" embodies classic superhero ethics, contrasting it with a more cynical approach. With humorous critiques and thoughtful insights, we take a look at the long-awaited sequel's reception, rating it 8.5 out of 10, and reflect on how the 14-year gap influenced our expectations and perceptions. In this episode:Mike and Ed discuss the true identity of the Invincible Man. Behind his mask, he was apparently Franklin Richards, father of Sue and Johnny Storm. But that identity was also fake, and behind the second mask he was the Super Skrull (which explains his duplicated Fantastic Four powers). The bigger topic of discussion is how Reed Richards obtained the ability to wipe out the entire Skrull race. He did not commit genocide, but he could have, and he threatened to do so. Does this ability make us safer, or less safe? Does it matter that it is in the hands of a private citizen instead of the Presidents of Russia and America? Was Dr. Strangelove a documentary!?!Behind the comic:The potential genocide we dive into in the episode is almost an aside in this issue, and as far as we are aware the capabilities are addressed in the comics again. Instead, this issue is important in Marvel continuity for providing background on the parents of Sue and Johnny. Their father was just introduced, but he dies here a “hero” - sacrificing himself to prevent a Skrull sneak attack. In this issue:An alien arrives on earth and assumes the form of Franklin Storm, thereafter sending Dr. Storm to another galaxy. “Dr. Storm” escapes prison as the Invincible Man, using the same powers of the Fantastic Four. He thereafter threatens the world while dressed in a bizarre costume and calling himself the Invincible Man. The Fantastic Four battle him to a standstill. The world turns on the Four, assuming they took it easy on the villain. On their second battle, Reed reveals that he knows the truth and, once he is confronted, the Invincible Man reveals his true identity, the Super Skrull. Reed threatens the Skrull home world with nuclear genocide if the real Dr. Storm is not returned to Earth. The Skrulls agree to this condition, and return Dr. Storm, although he is boobytrapped with a bomb that kills him upon his return to Earth. Dr. Storm dies a hero, or at least not as a villain.Assumed before the next episode:People are wondering why the Skrulls' plan was so complicated. This episode takes place:After the Fantastic Four have defeated the Skrulls.
