Christ's cryptocurrency is on trial in Colorado. Eli and Kaitlyn Regalado have been accused of creating a worthless crypto coin and exchange, with Jesus-themed branding, that took about 3.4 million dollars from “investors” and left them holding the bag. With a hearing scheduled in Colorado for Feb 5, instead of showing up, Regalado decided to hit the Christian revival circuit in Zambia. Oh, yeah. And the laser-eyed crypto-maximalist president of El Salvador, Bukele, just won re-election. DeSantis' CRT and DEI presidential campaign might be over, but there are still plenty of people willing to throw down dollars to fight against DEI and woke capitalism. We're talking about the brave elites who're willing to put their money down for a good cause. And in the truest American way any of us know, that cause is based land speculation. Today we're asking the question, "what if a zany mismatched group of three liberal Gen-Xers, one Millennial and two Zoomers were thrown into a house reno'd by Chip and Joanna Gaines just as the world was ending?" We're going to peek into the blue pilled minds who can't help but wonder if maybe all those MAGA, QAnon conspiracists might be on to something. That's correct, we're talking about the immensely popular apocalyptic fantasy Leave the World Behind. It's all of that plus a dash of the supremely neoliberal mantra: everyone is responsible, but no one is to blame. Help support Wetwired and get more episodes like this one. We're joined again today by Darren Drda! We talked last time about his most recent book, New Age Wasteland. We spent some time with a few ghosts and ghouls operating in the New Age space and then dug into the Woo to Q pipeline. Today we'll spend some time on a few of the more recent influencers in the New Age movement. We also want to shed some light on what might be some of the better ideas coming out of the movement. We're taking a break this week, so we thought we'd re-release a timeless episode from the archives. This one is about the amorphous dimensions of what we call QAnon, some thoughts about why it's so hard to categorize, and the implications for detecting disinformation. ------ We've been trying to figure out how many people actually buy into QAnon ideas. If you just lurk on the off brand video sites, you'd think that almost everyone was in on it. Dozens of regional and national polls that have been conducted in the past couple years that try to get an accurate headcount for the number of Americans who support QAnon beliefs. Something should be said here about the name QAnon. It's not really a thing, even though it is a thing. There isn't really a QAnon. There was the anonymous message board poster, or likely a couple of them, called “Q”. Then there are all the people who lapped all of it up. When Q first went silent, the whole operation metastasized. Now there are possibly hundreds who continue amplifying those original ideas from the message board posts. They aren't just amplifying though, they added fun new twists to the Q story at almost every news cycle. What we're calling QAnon isn't really anything more than an amalgam of all of those ideas. The problem is that the complete set of related beliefs don't always spread as a group. This makes getting that head count extremely challenging since a lot of those ideas have filtered into our general discourse separate from any attachment to the original Q. We're talking with filmmaker Christopher Bell about his docuseries Miss Me Yet. Chris brings the horror and absurdity of the George W. Bush years back to life as he tells the story of a political heir who becomes president, is branded a liar and war criminal by many, and finally drifts into the semi-reclusive painterly life. Miss Me Yet is currently showing on Means TV. https://means.tv/programs/missmeyet Find Chris bell on Twitter: https://twitter.com/UpdateTheGrids Watch some of Chris' other films: https://linktr.ee/christopherjasonbell Music: Airglow - Spliff and Wesson (CC BY 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/deed.en We're unlocking this ep for a while because everyone should get to know Chris and hear about his docuseries Miss Me Yet. This week the Wetwired boys make a return the The Brand Social for a catch up. We talk collabs, the struggles of social media advertising, briefly discuss why American football is just Btec rugby and much more. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We're joined again by the lovely Thomas Lecaque, historian, educator, author, and destroyer of pop culture. Our winding conversation comes together around the core of ahistory that both fuels and is created by political grifters who would willingly do a fascism so long as they can make a few bucks. We talked a bit about the myth of Christopher Columbus, so we held this episode back for a week or so to drop it on Indigenous Peoples Day. A true renaissance man for the 21st century. He represents a growing new breed of politically radicalized health guru. He's the sort of man who in one breath will recommend apple cider vinegar to treat diabetes and in the next climbs on stage to rave about the medical tyranny of mask and vaccine mandates. Naturally, I think of something else we've recently watched, Frailty. But, this is TXF and the cold open so of course, the dude is killing people including his wife. Mulder is given a newspaper article about a number of people who became psychotic and murdered several people by the Plain-Clothed Man. One man killed five people, all believing them to be the same man. Mulder and Scully travel to see this man, who is in a psychiatric hospital now under the care of Dr. Stroman. He gets violently upset and throws a chair upon seeing a news show about a war criminal in the former Yugoslavia. Mulder and Scully travel to the man's house where they find two boys watching a movie on the man's television. ---- Where is Krycek?

This week we are absorbing hypnotic signals from our television sets while we discuss “Wetwired”! We're talking why Mulder needs to stop meeting randos in the middle of the night all the time, the evil joys of Paranoid Scully, the suspicious absences in Mama Scully's family photos, Skinner still holding a grudge from Avatar, and the deeply baffling revelation that Mulder is colorblind?!?!? We point out Mulder's absolutely profound puppy dog eyes, find out that Mulder is the anti-Walter White, and get sad about Scully's deepest fear being the possibility of Mulder betraying her :( All the bad boys are back!Send us an email at scullynationpod@gmail.com or follow us on Twitter and Instagram!
So many VHS tapes! This episode is all about that 90s violence on TV paranoia. But mostly about Scully fully freaking out and pulling a gun on Mulder. Yikes! Your hosts, Nikki Reese and Kat Jetson discuss X-Files episode 3x23 ”Wetwired”. New episodes drop every Friday at noon PST. Join us as we swoon over a nearly 30 year old show, and specifically Dana Scully.
Scully and Mulder investigate a series of bizarre murders committed by a man who says he saw the killer on TV. They conclude that several people in the community are affected somehow and Mulder believes that the TV signals are being altered in some way. He finds a device in the cable connections at the telephone pole and the Lone Gunmen confirm that there is additional information being transmitted along with the regular broadcasts. He concludes that the signal creates a sense of paranoia in the recipient, preying on their deepest fears, something that is confirmed when Scully sees Mulder sitting in a car, joking and laughing with the Cigarette Smoking Man. It's up to Mulder to bring these experiments to an end. E-mail: Manvfilm@gmail.com Graham: www.youtube.com/c/manvfilm Twitter: @Grahamdoh Bryan: www.youtube.com/user/TJMACKEY2 Twitter: @BryanLomax

Some wicked weird murders are happening. People are seeing things that aren't real, driving them to murder. The affliction begins to afflict Scully. Can Mulder get to the bottom of it before it's too late?
In this episode: Mulder is told about a case where a man murdered five people believing them all to be the same man, a war criminal featured on the news. As Mulder and Scully investigate, they discover his rampage may have been inspired by taped news broadcasts. As more people commit inexplicable murders, seemingly connected to the televsion, Mulder tries to determine the cause. Meanwhile, Scully becomes paranoid that Mulder is working against her. Reputedly, notably wealthy guys and gals such as Newt Gingrich, Oprah Winfrey, Mitt Romney, Tony Robbins, and Larry Ellison, the co-founder and current CTO of Oracle, are fans of either Hill specifically or his ideas. Here are some highlights from the official story of the rise of Napoleon Hill. He was an attorney who came from nothing, born in a one-room cabin in Appalachia. He worked closely with Andrew Carnegie to produce the book Think Your Way to Wealth and led to a years long collaboration between the two men. Hill was an advisor to two presidents—Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He helped Wilson to negotiate Germany's surrender after World War I. Hill invented FDR's famous line: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Any parts of a bio like this would be eventful enough for a whole life!—except for the minor problem that there is absolutely no evidence that any of these things ever happened. Every one of these official biographical details has been called into question, and no evidence was ever provided by Napoleon Hill or the Hill Foundation to substantiate any of them. Neither Andrew Carnegie nor the Carnegie estate ever confirmed that any meeting with Hill ever took place or that Carnegie helped create the book. Aside from a short meeting with Thomas Edison, Hill doesn't seem to have met any of the over 500 people who show up in interviews in his books. Nap claimed that the records of all of his meetings were lost in a structure fire. I came into this episode with a pretty strong skepticism about the benefits of self-help and Napoleon Hill specifically. But I didn't expect to find any of this. The scope of Hill's fraud is truly amazing. ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ ⛬ For $3 a month, listen to the rest of this episode and get an extra few subscriber only episodes every month. This week we chatted about the overwhelming 90s S03E23 "Wetwired", which we watched via a VHS, of course :P. We talked about the fantastic score, Mulder's inability to pick up on Scully's deteriorating sanity, and a very convenient medical condition given to Mulder that is never mentioned again.
