Chris Carter's The X-Files is weird on its face: a dramatic series that, from the start, presented itself as more than drama, an exploration of the reality of the paranormal using the tools of fiction, a fantasy posing as reality (or is it the other way around?). Strangely prescient, undeniably zany, and truly "hyperstitious," the series is likely to strike contemporary viewers as equal parts naive and prophetic. In this episode, music scholar and Weird Studies assistant Meredith Michael joins Phil and JF for a deep dive into the archival sublime of the filing cabinet marked "X." Happy Halloween! Spooky Season got in the way of us recording again this month, but we dove deep into the vault to bring you a Patreon preview. Enjoy!
It's Darin Morgan's swan song for the original run of the show. Larry Musser joins an unbelievable guest cast in an episode that takes many turns. It's the age old story of alien abducts alien, he said she said, men in black are actually agents of the military industrial complex sent to cause mass confusion and doubt about anyone's story. What's confusing about that?JOIN OUR SOCIALS!www.facebook.com/groups/thisisnothappeningpod/ @TINHXFilesPodCONTACT US!tinhxfp@gmail.com

Lee and Nathan examine the season 3 episode "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" of the classic conspiracy TV show "The X-Files", and use the show to springboard off into a conversation about truth, aliens, hypnosis, abductions, hoaxes, government cover-ups, gorilla suits, and flying saucers. We recommend watching the X-Files episode before listening to this, but it's not necessary since the plot of the episode is explained fully.

I guested on Horror Makes You Brave to discuss one of the most 90s nineties things that's ever 90s: R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series! For this special collaborative episode, I suggested Goosebumps as a topic and Landen chose his favorite of the series -- and one of the more obscure titles -- The Haunted School. The truth is out there... maybe. Author Jose Chung wants to write a book about a supposed alien abduction in a small town, so he's interviewing everyone involved, including Agent Scully. Unfortunately, no one's version of events seems to totally line up so he's left to piece together the story from various accounts. Was it really aliens or just a series of unfortunate events that have been largely misunderstood? And, yes, the title should be: Season 3, Episode 20: “Jose Chung's From Outer Space”, but title editing is limited. Originally recorded on 08 January 2022. Originally released on 21 January 2022. This week Dr. Syintist, Chump Slap, and Poppascotch totally swear that this is their last fuck around episode for a minute. Let's record an episode where we talk about it. But unlike other PTWs....DR. SYINTIST IS HERE!!!! What are you waiting for?
Well known author Jose Chung is writing a book about the claimed alien abduction of a young couple that was subsequently investigated by agents Mulder and Scully. With Mulder unavailable, Scully provides most of the information on the case. Chrissy and Harold were out on a date when their car suddenly lost all power in the middle of nowhere. From that point on however, their stories and that of the others involved in the investigation begin to vary considerably. It all equally leads to several possible conclusions. We were joined by our friend Nick (@NickRichWrites) to talk the legendary S03E20 "Jose Chung's From Outer Space". We discussed the meta nature of this episode and whether it's actually making fun of The X Files, the incredible directing by Rob Bowman, and the cultural impact of the show. Of course, we also try to piece together what "the truth" is, if it even exists, and what sort of plot is provided through the constant jumping timelines. Q: How many drugs was Matt Wagner ingesting during the creation of Grendel? A: All of them. Paul and Arlo arrive at this conclusion in another Four-Color Flashback installment discussing Wagner's comics magnum opus, after reading chapters 1-6 of the "God and the Devil" storyline, collected in Grendel Omnibus: Vol. 3 - Orion's Reign. After the four-part "Incubation Years" arc leapt through time in bold and bizarre fashion, "God and the Devil" finds our heroes (just kidding, there are no heroes) in the year 2530. The world has gone to shit, with the Catholic Church going back to its Inquisition roots under the reign of Pope Innocent XLII. Meanwhile, both corporate auditor Orion Assante and drugged-out street rat Eppy Thatcher fight to bring down the Church...only one of them wears the mask of Grendel, but will both be consumed by his/its force? Plus, Arlo's sick again and the boys pay tribute to Gene Wilder and David Lavery.
