In this episode, Heidi and her husband Ryan have a conversation about the 5 elements of an environment of growth and how they continue to work toward consistently practicing all five in their own lives. An environment of growth is defined as a safe space to learn and grow.    All human needs come back down to the basic need for safety and security. The opposite of safety is overwhelm. When we create an environment of growth the outcome is presence. With a sense of safety, the present moment is experienced, and it's only in the present moment that true transformation happens. This week I am talking with my friend Nichole Mischke. For Nichole, sharing OTHER people's stories always came easy. She studied broadcast journalism and expected to have a lifelong career in the news business. However, in finally finding the courage to share her OWN story, a secret she had kept from everyone in her life for nearly a decade, she realized a vision for the stories she was meant to tell. In 2018, Nichole left her job in news to launch a media and storytelling platform called UNCOVERED. UNCOVERED seeks to set people free through the power of owning and sharing your story. Nichole and her team produce short documentaries about people who have overcome toxic shame or some sort of struggle in their life with the intention to inspire hope, healing, and let people know that even amidst your greatest struggle or most shameful secret, you are not alone. In this episode we discuss:  How owning your story can not only set you free but also inspire others to share theirs and help many more to feel less alone.  Nichole shares openly about the resistance she faced when making the decision to share her own story in public.  You may be surprised by how many people in your social circles, friend groups, and family have experienced something or are currently going through something similar to what you are keeping a secret.  We receive a lot of mixed messages about what it means to be "healthy", "successful" and "beautiful" in today's world which adds to the unnecessary shame and ultimately suffering many of us go through.  How sharing your story could potentially help you detach from identifying yourself with addiction, disorder, past experiences, or stigmas that aren't the truth of who you are. Our greatest desire is to be fully known and loved for everything we are.  Connect with Nichole:  Nichole@NicholeMischke.com StoriesUncovered.com TikTok: @StoriesUncovered YouTube: Youtube.com/StoriesUncovered IG: @UncoveredwithNicholeMischke FB: Uncovered with Nichole Mischke Connect with Heidi:  IG: @theheidisawyer

This week on the podcast, Heidi talks with Judy Buchanan about how stress and chronic illness can be managed with energy medicine. Judy shares her story of chronic stress-related illness and her experience with energy medicine before becoming a Reiki Practitioner herself.  How energy can become trapped in the body aka. "the issues live in the tissues." Ways to help yourself and others release and move stuck energy in the body.  Many of us have grown up with or been in an adult role (career, relationship, etc.) in life where we developed a learned belief that expressing and feeling emotions was inappropriate or wrong.  Creating a sense of safety within ourselves by balancing the nervous system with self-compassion, self-care, and more.  About Judy: Judy Buchanan is an entrepreneur whose mission is to empower others via energy medicine and resiliency education to be all they can be and thrive. She is an Unbeatable Mind Coach, energy medicine practitioner in the form of Reiki, Beyond Quantum Healing Hypnosis practitioner, Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions Instructor, speaker, retired soldier, wife, and mother of 2.    She spent more than 20 years as an active-duty U.S. Army Medical Service Corps Officer retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. As a retired soldier who is married to a former soldier, she understands first-hand the stressors experienced by first responders/service members and their families. While serving in uniform and raising a family Judy experienced multiple surgeries and began to experience chronic stress, anxiety, and pain. From these health challenges came the strength and passion to spark a change that led her to explore many holistic healing practices.    Over the years she has focused much of her training on the subtle energy systems of the body. Judy used this knowledge and the skillset of Reiki to support her own healing and to facilitate clients' improving their health and wellbeing. As an Unbeatable Mind coach, Judy's passion is to inspire and empower others to live their unique life to their fullest potential and to facilitate breaking down barriers that might hinder them from doing so.    Judy uses this knowledge to facilitate co-creating a new reality with her clients so they can thrive. Our "high energy" phase of our cycle really isn't that long...yet we are trying to live in that phase all month! The holidays are a time for connecting with family and counting our blessings but this can also be a challenging time of year for those grieving the loss of a loved one. Heidi talks with Becky A. Benson about the loss of her daughter and how she is using her own personal experience to help others who are grieving. In this episode, we discuss: How to support: Grief doesn't need a hero it just needs a friend. Understanding some situations can't be ‘fixed'. There is power in simply being with someone else. Your silent presence is worth much more than empty words. Bearing witness to someone's struggle is doing heart work, and heart work can be hard work. What Not to Say: Refrain from platitudes (they are in a better place, at least they are not suffering anymore) and distance-seeking words (I can not imagine) and offer acknowledgment of the weight of the situation to validate their feelings. Connection as Time Passes Grief does not follow a prescribed timeline for anyone. Grief that is Healthy and Grief that is Not: Loss of sense of self, heightened emotions, memory issues (and much more) are all perfectly normal in grief. As time moves on if these things seem not to be lessening or you find yourself being further removed from society, including family and friends, you may be stuck in your grief, and not processing. About Becky: Becky A Benson's work has appeared on Modern Loss, Modern Mom, The Manifest Station, Scary Mommy, Grief Narratives, Months to Years Lit Mag and has been syndicated on both Salon and Brain Child. She has written and spoken for the Center for Jewish Genetics in Chicago, and Soulumination in Seattle, and appeared on podcasts, webinars, and television. She holds a degree in psychology and works for the National Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases Association as the organization's Family Services Manager. Her passion is for helping families endure the loss of a child, spreading awareness for genetic conditions, advocating for adoption, and providing a voice to the marginalized in society. Many habitual behaviors are often the result of attempting to meet our own internal need for psychological safety. How to start building greater self-awareness, THE first, critical step towards long-term change. Learning to observe or notice yourself can give you clues about why you may continue to run certain habits or automations. How you can lengthen the amount of time between the stimulus and your response by practicing conscious breathing and mindfulness. Many times we have a to-do list filled with tasks we have to complete or want to get done. But what comes before a to-do list and why does it matter when it comes to helping you live authentically and in line with your values? A to-be list on the other hand is the precursor to the to-do list. It focuses on who you are, what state you're in, and the role you're fulfilling at the moment. When you focus on who you're being, you can be in a state of receiving that allows you to show up to your fullest potential. In today's episode, I am talking with my friend Amber B. while on our working retreat together in Seattle, Wa. During our conversation, I speak about why productivity is great but it is important to focus on knowing why you're doing what you are doing. I also share why anchoring yourself in who you've come here to BE allows you to hold yourself to your truest potential, and an exercise to help you reveal your core values, and why you need to be aware of your thoughts and beliefs and where they come from. In this episode, Heidi and her husband and fellow coach Ryan have a casual chat about The Cycle of Transformation model from Ryan's book Choice Point. What is the Cycle of Transformation model, and why did Ryan create it? How you can better understand where you are in the cycle at any given time. Digging into each phase of the cycle from Choice Point all the way through Integration. Examples of how creating space in your life can facilitate deeper growth and healing. Steps within the model: Growth and healing actually happen in cycles. Transformation starts with making the choice to want to be, do, or have something different in your life. This is the CHOICE POINT. Next, we must create space for the transformation to happen by clearing out and eliminating anything that is no longer serving who we are wanting to BEcome. This is called creating THE VOID. Then we begin THE CLIMB. The climb is when we start to practice new ways of thinking, feeling, and being in our life. this is the time where we begin to create new habits and practices that support where we are wanting to go. When we've been climbing a while, we begin to see new perspectives and can be tempted to stay and rest on our accomplishments. However, this is the slippery ground because it is a FALSE SUMMIT. If we are not actively pursuing growth, the nature of the mind will be to revert back to old patterns and ways of being. Finally, when we've practiced long enough, we begin thinking, feeling, and being different without any conscious effort at all. This is called INTEGRATION because now the new ways of being have been successfully programmed into our subconscious mind and can be run with no effort. When we arrive at integration it is time again to repeat the cycle starting with the CHOICE POINT. "I will never lie to you, I will never tell you that I don't have resistance, I will never tell you that I don't have to work every single day to overcome the nature of my mind, which is just to literally just keep me safe and out of danger." "I'm doing this because I don't want to be a person who just tells my children that they can do and be anything I want to show them, I want to lead by example, I want my daughter to know that her voice matters and that she can share the wisdom while she's in it." In this episode, Heidi shares that the best way to embody Beauty in the Being is to be authentic and to cultivate belief and trust in yourself. You'll hear how you can embrace these qualities when it comes to decision-making and how our self-trust plays into making decisions. A big part of us achieving what we want to in this life is being ready to receive and feeling worthy to receive what's coming our way. You do not need to be anyone else but yourself. What is important is to show up as you are and pursue what your heart desires (4:43) Heidi explains why she is passionate about what she does and what her purpose is as a coach. Her goal is to get women to finally view themselves with love and kindness, and live their best authentic life through a transformation of the mind and breaking that people-pleasing cycle (8:23) What are you actually afraid of? Are you afraid of being rejected or that you're attaching your self-worth to something that is out of your control? Heidi discusses how to break this cycle through awareness and realizing that each experience you have is setting you up for something bigger (11:19) What lights us up is what lights the path back home. What you put into the world is what you get back. The most important thing is your relationship with yourself. Ask yourself, how happy are you willing to let yourself be? (14:26) Quotes:  "You are worthy to receive whatever your heart desires." "You've got to get out of your way. You've got to start showing up because the world needs the gifts that you have and only you can deliver." "Your success is inevitable because you are a person who invests and bets on yourself. You are a person who gets results. And you get those results because you show up and are ready to receive them."  "Transformation really happens when we get to the point in our life where we are just so sick of our own bullshit that we can't take it anymore." "If you don't trust and believe in yourself, you will always have trouble making decisions and stepping into the truth of yourself and what's right for you." In this episode, you'll hear talk with her husband and fellow coach, Ryan Sawyer, the author of the new book choice Point Break the Cycle of self-sabotage, accelerate your growth, and realize your true potential. In addition to being Heidi's husband, Ryan is also a former national champion collegiate football coach, a licensed unbeatable mind coach, a certified quantum living coach, a certified Kokoro yoga instructor, an oxygen advantage breathwork instructor, and mindfulness and meditation teacher. Today he shares his journey towards personal growth and healing  We discuss: How Ryan's journey with depression impacted his life, marriage, and mindset. He explains how he approached his healing by setting a routine and giving himself a purpose which in turn has enabled him to help others. Ryan talks about his book- a culmination of all his experiences, his depression, and why he wanted to create a new narrative about shifting your mindset. (7:44) One aspect of the book is this principle of ‘Try it On.' Ryan explains what this means and how you can embody it in your healing journey. (12:55) Ryan shares a great example of what limiting beliefs look like and embodying the ‘Try it On' mindset. The first approach to healing yourself is building that awareness around your current belief structure. (16:30) Sometimes we are really stuck in our own ways. With this in mind, Ryan shares some advice for what to do when you are just starting your growth and healing journey (19:46) One of the basic goals you can do right now is to create a space within yourself that feels safe to do this type of healing work and to have compassion for wherever you currently are in your journey. (24:50) What's on the top of his list right now? Ryan explains why he is always wanting to come at life with a “to be” list rather than a “to do” list. (27:34) Ryan's Quotes:  "Have compassion and curiosity for what there is to learn and what your current experience is there to teach you, that will be your catalyst for growth." "We have all been through something, we all have our own stories." "We need to create a space within ourselves that feels safe for us to do this type of work and have compassion for wherever we currently are." "You are not just who you think you are. You can create any version of yourself that you can desire or dream of." "If I knew nothing and was willing to try on a new belief, try a new practice, try a new way of thinking and feeling. What could that do for my life?" "A perceived obstacle in life is there to point us back to ourselves of where we need healing and how we can grow to overcome that."  Connect with Ryan: Website: https://www.coachryansawyer.com/  IG: @coachryansawyer Grab Ryan's book Choice Point Connect with Heidi: IG: @heidisawyercoaching  Join the Beauty in the Being Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/beautyinthebeing Website: https://www.heidisawyercoaching.com/
