In this episode of All Things Endurance, host Rick Prince chats with Geoff and Heather Hart, co-owners of Hart Strength and Endurance Coaching. The podcast topics center around how to scale one's coaching business, with a lot of emphasis on how and when to bring on other coaches to work for you. They focus on road runners and ultrarunners, as well as strength training. In addition to coaching, Heather was also a presenter (strength training) at last year's UESCA Ultrarunning Coach Conference. As Geoff and Heather have built a very successful and sustainable coaching practice, if you want to build a solo coaching practice, or one that employs other coaches – this podcast is gold! Some of the topics discussed are:1.       What got you and Geoff into coaching? What did you guys do before coaching?2.       Have you always been ultrarunning-focused coaches?3.       When, and how did you decide to bring on another coach(es)?4.       What are the main qualities that you look for when bringing on more coaches?5.       Are there any legal considerations to consider when hiring coaches?6.       How much time do you spend on your clients vs. managing your business/other coaches?7.       How do you market your coaches/coaching business?8.       What are some of the biggest challenges of having coaches work for you?9.       When an inquiry comes in for coaching, how do you determine what coach you select to work with the athlete?10.  If someone was looking to hire coaches under them, what is some advice you would give them?

They say, ‘I've been running. I run this far every day and I have for years and I'm not getting better. Maybe I'm getting worse.' And that's because there is a ton of science showing how our bodies adapt to exercise and these principles of exercise basically help you understand how you want to build a training plan to reach your goals.” (23:11) (Heather)“I think that coaches and, for lack of a better term, fitness influencers have been doing a great job lately at emphasizing how important rest and recovery days are. Because we know that we don't make those adaptations during training. It doesn't happen then. It happens after training, during recovery. So we need to balance out those hard workouts with recovery days so we can actually make those adaptations.” (26:18) (Heather)“Going back to fatigue management, when we're trying to progressively overload, we do need to do what's called ‘overreaching.' And there's functional overreaching and nonfunctional overreaching. Functional overreaching is purposeful. Nonfunctional is usually what happens to people who just have a chaotic training plan and don't really take enough rest and they're getting tired.” (33:40) (Heather)“I would say the number one thing is to remember the Principle of Individuality. Just because you see another athlete - even if they're training for the same race as you and they have the same amount of experience as you - your body and their body are not the same. Genetically, you're not the same. Who knows how well your body is recovering compared to that athlete? They may be able to do more than you. You may be able to do more than them. That doesn't make one right and one wrong.” (40:02) (Heather)“Part of being an athlete is learning your body like that. This is not supposed to be easy.” (43:09) (Heather)“I think that's part of our job as coaches. A lot of people think...

Sometimes we forget that rest and recovery are just as important as training and racing. We're in an extreme sport, and we can take our drive to do more to the extreme and find ourselves in BURNOUT. My guest this week is Heather Hart. She's an exercise physiologist, ultra runner, blogger, and coach. Author Audience: Helping You Reach More People With Your Message | Writing | Self-Publishing | Book Marketing | Business Grow

Self-publishing can be overwhelming and expensive. You've done some research and have been praying about the best way to publish your book. However, you have some doubts and hesitations. I've been there. We've all been there. Don't let paralysis of analysis keep your book as an unfinished project on your computer's hard drive or in your notebooks gathering dust. Instead, let's breakthrough the myths that may be holding you back. Myth #1: Traditionally published books are of better quality than self-published books. The truth is that self-published books can have the same quality as a book published with a traditional publisher. There are certain things you can do to make sure that when someone picks up your book they won't know it has been independently published.  If you want to self-publish a book that has a quality interior design (on a budget), be sure to check out Dave Chesson's presentation at our upcoming Kingdom Writers Conference! Myth #2: It costs thousands of dollars to self-publish a book. The truth is that you can get a high-quality book self-published without breaking the bank. Many writers get confused between self-publishing and vanity publishing. Vanity publishing is when a small publisher agrees to publish your book at your cost. They typically charge thousands of dollars for this service. Plus, in order for you AND your publisher to make money, you have to price your book so high that it's difficult to sell. It often gets priced right out of the market.  Professional editing will be one of your biggest costs with self-publishing. Therefore, if you want to learn 3 ways to cut costs with editing, be sure to check out Debra L. Butterfield's presentation at our upcoming Kingdom Writers Conference! Myth #3: Self-publishing a book is overwhelming Yes, writing a book can be overwhelming. I get it. There are so many details. However, what if you start with a short Kindle eBook? A short book is easy for your readers to consume.  Plus, it's quicker to write! It's a quick win and can help you build momentum for the next book. And when you publish as an eBook there are a lot less details to manage. You can always add other versions later. If you want to learn more about the benefits of writing a short Kindle eBook (and the length I recommend), be sure to check out my presentation at our Kingdom Writers Conference. Next Steps Look back at the 3 myths we went over, choose the one that is currently affecting you the most, and take action on it! And for a whole lot more help with self-publishing on a budget (without compromising quality), check out the FREE Kingdom Writers Conference, Count the Costs edition. We've got 8 seasoned writers and publishers lined up and ready to teach you everything from saving on book cover design to choosing the best formatting software. "This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God." -2 Corinthians 9:12 As we close out season 3 of the Joni and Friends Ministry Podcast, Crystal is reflecting on the many wonderful conversations we've had this year and the remarkable people we've met along the way. So many of our guests persevered through the hardships of their disabilities and chronic conditions, sacrificing their strength to share about their lives and God's faithfulness.Crystal is thinking of friends like Jennifer Ji-Hye Ko who lives with tremendous pain and mental health challenges and brought a powerful reminder about lamenting to our God through seasons of grief. She's also thinking of Heather Hart who, on the morning we recorded, had been in the ER with one of her daily migraines. She's reminded of Abigail Brown who used a communication board to share her testimony of God's unseen purposes for her suffering and Stephanie Magness who shared on the podcast even though her Friedrich's ataxia would not allow her to talk for more than about 10 minutes. With mental health being a focus this year, she is also so thankful for her conversations with Tara Groff who serves the Lord as a wife and mother through her daily episodes with schizophrenia. We are grateful for these friends and the many more not mentioned, for the kindness you've shown by sharing your hearts on this platform.Living with a disability is not easy, but each guest has reminded us that the hope of heaven, the help of other Christians, and the grace of God is sustaining. So how can we make the gospel accessible in our churches and communities? As she wraps up season 3, Crystal shares how Joni and Friends is making this possible through a modest grant program called the Christian Fund for the Disabled and a giving opportunity called the Perfect Gift. And the best part is, you can get involved! As we give generously and strategically to meet the needs of those God is directing us to care for, the Lord will provide—that is a promise that we can hold fast to! And when we see his provision in a tangible way, it increases our faith, deepens our love for Jesus, and fills our hearts with thanksgiving. May this season be filled with evidence of God's hand as you continue to trust in him. Bio: Heather Hart is an exercise physiologist, full time running coach, mom of two, and ultra runner who believes that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary feats. Together with her husband, Heather co-founded Hart Strength and Endurance Coaching, an in person and virtual coaching service specializing in helping people balance training with family, work, and "real life". Over the last 15 years, Heather has participated in a gamut of endurance sports, from road running, to triathlon, to obstacle course racing, and even adventure racing. But her heart and soul is running on the trails. When she's not training for ultras, you can find Heather as a regular in the weight room at the gym, or writing educational posts and sharing personal stories on her blog Relentless Forward Commotion. Questions and topics for Heather: How did you get your start in running? Training for first 100-miler, 50k, 50miler/100k… main differences? How much time commitment and training is involved? How did you get your start in running? How about in trails and ultras? For someone training for their first ultra and/or trail race... advice on how to start? Mileage/time to aim for with various distances -- 25k, 50k, 50-miler/100k, 100-mile? Do you consider HR, PE, and/or any other factors with your athletes? What role do these play in our training? What role does "vert" or climbing hills play in training for an athlete? Any tips for someone who lives in a flat area but is training for a hilly/mountain race? How can we balance life/responsibilities with our huge goals and training commitments? Any tips on fitting training in? Advice you would give to your younger (or pre-trail/ultra) self? What does being a Strong Runner Chick mean to you? Any final shout-outs? Shoutout to today's show sponsor, Naak Bar! We ultramarathon runners love to push and test our limits. The challenge is what draws us. And it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of doing more and longer races. But there's a downside too. She's had some personal experience with burnout, and in this episode she shares how she got there and her journey back to balance in life and running. To connect with Heather:Relentlessforwardcommotion.comInstagram: @relentlessforwardcommotionFacebook: @HartStrengthAndEndurance

Life isn’t always sunshine and chocolate.  It’s hard.  Being a Christian doesn't change that. In Candid Conversations you’ll read real life stories from real Christian women, and how God has used their struggles to either refine their faith or used their faith to help them weather the storm. From struggling with doubts to dealing with the loss of a loved one, these women lay it all out. They aren’t afraid to get real, because they know God can use their struggles to inspire, encourage, and reach others all for His glory. Heather Hart, founder of the #CandidlyChristian movement, encourages readers to be honest and look for ways they can relate to each story. Then take that mentality into their everyday lives and start having candid conversations with those around them. And now let's get to my guest! Heather Hart is an internationally best-selling and award winning author, book lover, author coach at TrainingAuthors.com and owner of BooklyBooks.com. Her desire is to help other authors successfully publish and market their books while continuing to author, contribute to, and market multiple book marketing and faith-based books herself - and to have fun doing it! Below are the main highlights from the interview: The biggest struggle newbie writers have is knowing what to do with their writing. You can upload in Kindle and become published author in less than 24 hours with zero money down. But once it's on there it's not easy to sell. It is more than about just writing. Things that absolutely have to be done before uploading to Amazon: have the book edited formatting is important get professional book design You have to get into marketing mindset to sell your book. Big part of that is learning who your audience is and what will convince them that your book is worth reading. [spp-tweet "Readers don't need to hear "buy my book". They want you to convince them why they need your book"] The most important thing is to take your time to connect to your readers. Let them know you're real person and you really care. If you want to sell to readers continuously you have to build relationship with them. Building those relationships builds friends and fans - not just readers. Just be yourself cause that's what readers wanna know anyway. No matter where you're at you can always grow and improve. It's never finished. It's a journey. It's a lifestyle. Being an author is part of who you are and it's part of what you do.
