God's Existence: Deeper Thoughts for Greater Insights by Gary R. LindbergThe book God's Existence: Deeper Thoughts for Greater Insights seeks to more deeply examine God's existence through science and the Old Testament books of Genesis and Exodus. We examine some of the major issues that have generated controversy to search for clearer truth about them. Does evolution contradict the Bible, or is it another tool God used for Creation? Why was the Old Testament written? What should Genesis actually tell us about creation? How should we look at certain issues raised in Genesis such as Adam and Eve, missing people, descendants of Adam, and even the Great Flood? We want to evaluate whether or not Moses was real, and whether or not the Exodus really happened. When did the alleged Exodus actually occur? We seek answers to these and other questions to get a better understanding of those events so long ago. The answers may be shocking, surprising, or different than what we were told. A profound book that is “on fire' to discover new truths to age-old questions.Gary R. Lindberg is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in U.S. history during the hectic days of the Free Speech Movement. He responded to Director Sargent Shriver's call to volunteer. However, after graduation, before being drafted, he started to apply for the Air Force until he received his invitation to join the Peace Corps. After his service, he entered the Navy instead of accepting his draft notice, went to San Francisco State University to get his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a concentration in Management and Personnel, and began a forty-three-year career in human resources. He retired in November 2019 to pursue personal interests.AMAZONhttps://garyrlindberg.comhttps://www.ecpublishingllc.comhttp://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/52225glec.mp3

As they attempt to save the marriage of one of their listeners, Brad and Dave consider the best path for a cartoonist who wishes to pursue a master's degree. Would a Master's in Fine Arts be the right choice, or would a Master's in Business Administration be the better option? Considering the expense, perhaps the best choice is to avoid both! After grappling with that dilemma, Susan MacTaggart stops by to share a personal affirmation with a member of the ComicLab community.Today's ShowIs a Master's Degree in comics worthwhile?Susan MacTaggart's AffirmationUPDATE: Brad and Dave's Wikipedia pagesMixing word-balloon stylesSummaryIn this episode, the hosts discuss the importance of education for cartoonists, debating the merits of pursuing a Master's in Fine Arts (MFA) versus a Master's in Business Administration (MBA). The discussion highlights the value of writing skills in comics and the necessity of understanding business principles in today's publishing climate. In this episode, the hosts delve into the intersection of art and marketing, discussing the value of formal education, such as an MFA, in developing a creative career. They explore the importance of self-teaching versus structured learning, emphasizing personal growth and the impact of higher education on career paths. The conversation also touches on community engagement through personal affirmations and mid-show updates, culminating in discussing word balloon techniques in comics. In this episode, Brad Guigar and Dave Kellett delve into the intricacies of comic storytelling, focusing on the use of word balloons and their aesthetic implications. They discuss the evolution of comic communication, the philosophy behind how comics convey messages, and the unique structure of two-panel comics. The conversation highlights the balance between visual elements and text, exploring how these components enhance storytelling in comics.TakeawaysEducation in the arts should focus on writing, not just drawing. An MFA may not provide the specific skills needed for comics compared to an MBA.Understanding business and marketing is crucial for independent cartoonists today.Higher education can provide a shortcut to knowledge that would take years to learn otherwise. Not all education needs to have a direct financial return on investment. The subjective nature of art can complicate grading in MFA programs.Scholarships can help alleviate the financial burden of higher education.Choosing between an MFA and an MBA depends on personal career goals and interests. The art itself is not enough; marketing plays a crucial role.An MFA can provide valuable insights into salesmanship and marketing. The experience gained from an MFA depends on the student's openness to feedback. Many successful cartoonists do not have an MFA, indicating it's not essential for success.Self-teaching can be as effective as formal education, depending on the individual's learning style.Personal growth and happiness can come from pursuing higher education, even if it doesn't directly impact career success.Community engagement is vital for creators, as seen in the personal affirmations segment.Word balloon techniques vary based on the comic's style and background complexity. The hosts share humorous anecdotes about their Wikipedia pages, highlighting the challenges of self-presentation.The conversation emphasizes the importance of adapting techniques to fit the evolving art style. Word balloons can affect the aesthetics of a comic.Using a floater can conserve space in a panel.Breaking up dialogue into multiple balloons improves readability.Floaters can convey whispers or asides effectively.Aesthetics sometimes dictate the choice between word balloons and floaters. The history of word balloons reflects the evolution of comic art.Comics often rely on a visual punchline that follows a setup.Two-panel comics can exist in greeting cards and other formats. The construction of comics can influence how they are perceived. The philosophy of comic communication is complex and evolving. We talk about why I invest and why I invest in my own particular way for a unique type of clients... John asks some superb questions, the topics get serious, but we have some laughs, too! My guest host today is John Rotonti — as I shared before, in my mind, John, is a very diligent, thoughtful, deliberate stock analyst with a great gift for teaching others the necessary skills to analyze and evaluate businesses. He is kind, generous, and always so much fun to talk to, so no wonder that I keep inviting him back to show with any excuse I have. He recently delivered a stock picking masterclass here on Talking Billions, look it up, and listen as soon as you can. John graduated from the University of Richmond with a degree in political science. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Tulane University's Freeman School of Business, where he graduated in the top cohort of his class. In December 2013, he published a book titled "A Manual on Common Stock Investing." Most recently, he was employed by The Motley Fool for nearly 9 years, voluntarily leaving as a level 3 senior equity analyst and Head of Analyst Training and Development. He identifies as a contrarian value investor by nature and due to life circumstances. He has a very successful and incredibly well-produced podcast that I recommend you explore. I also know he is onto some new very exciting projects, follow him on Twitter to hear more. Today, we turn the tables, and continue a relatively new Talking Billions tradition of Fireside chats with the guest hosts, where they ask questions, and I do my best to answer. Look up Matt Zeigler's, Matthew Stafford's, and Christian Billinger's fireside chat episode, they are all fantastic, and very very different. I'm lining up a few more, so subscribe if you don't want to miss them. In a nutshell, we talk about my investment process, how I work, how I operate, why I invest, and most of all, why I invest in my particular way for a unique type of clients that I love working with. If any of it resonates with you, and you'd like to talk more, head over to Blue Infinitas Capital website or Talking Billions website, and get in touch, I read all my emails. My guest today is John Rotonti — in my mind, John is a very diligent, thoughtful, deliberate stock analyst with a great gift for teaching others the necessary skills to analyze and evaluate businesses. He is kind, generous, and always so much fun to talk to. We recorded our first episode together about a year ago; scroll down to find it. It's a truly wonderful conversation and an opportunity to get to know my guest. Today is John's second appearance on the show, and we'll go deeper with a stock picking masterclass delivered by someone I admire and respect. He has a very successful, and incredibly well produced podcast that I recommend you explore. In our conversation today, John, emphasizes the importance of focusing on high-quality, growing businesses with strong moats and good management teams. He suggests maintaining a watchlist of thoroughly researched businesses and waiting for their stock prices to sell off before considering them as investment opportunities. John recommends getting ideas from a network of investors, reading investor letters, and conducting constant research. He outlines a quick glance process for evaluating potential investments, which includes assessing the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement. John advises investing in adaptable businesses with the potential to grow their intrinsic value over time. Stay tuned until the end, when John clarifies the misinterpretation of Warren Buffett's philosophy and strategy. Recorded before the highly successful MEPC81, Arsenio describes his vision for the IMO and his confidence in solutions that will reduce emissions from shipping without penalizing member states. --About SG Arsenio Dominguez:Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco is the tenth IMO Secretary-General, bringing with him more than three decades of experience serving the global maritime sector, across a spectrum of leadership roles of increasing scope and responsibility.Initially representing his native Panama, first within the Panama Maritime Authority and in his lattermost appointment as Ambassador of Panama to the IMO, his affinity for building consensus saw him elected by his peers as Chair of several flagship IMO intergovernmental meetings, including: the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), the Technical Committee of the 29th Assembly, and the Maritime Security, Piracy and Armed Robbery Group, as well as a number of Vice-Chair and Board member roles.A naval architect at heart and by training, Mr. Dominguez gained his first degree at Veracruzana University, Mexico. Recognizing from the outset of his career the importance of a multi-disciplinary and multi-sectorial approach to the maritime sector, Mr. Dominguez later went on to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Hull, as well as an executive qualification in International Law and European Politics at Birkbeck University, both in the United Kingdom. This agile approach served him well in better understanding the priorities and navigating the needs of the different stakeholders across the maritime sector, and indeed the complexities of a specialized UN agency whose mission it is to support them. In 2017, Mr. Dominguez harnessed this extensive technical and diplomatic knowledge and experience as a delegate for the benefit of IMO. He joined the Organization, first as Chief of Staff, followed by Administrative Director - leading the Organization through the COVID-19 pandemic. Directly prior to his election in July 2023 as Secretary-General, he was the Director of the Marine Environment Division. His initial term as IMO Secretary-General was approved at the 33rd Assembly in December 2023.--About the IMO:The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. The IMO work supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The main role of the IMO is to create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, universally adopted and universally implemented. Shipping is a truly international industry, and it can only operate effectively if the regulations and standards are themselves agreed, adopted and implemented on an international basis. IMO measures cover all aspects of international shipping – including ship design, construction, equipment, manning, operation and disposal – to ensure that this vital sector for remains safe, environmentally sound, energy efficient and secure.--Links:IMO: https://www.imo.org/
