This episode is to break down each point from the "Why I'm Pro-Life" elevator pitch. 1. Pro-science - overwhelming science consensus that a distinct human organism begins at conception. Alive, growing, human, you and I matter. 2. Social justice begins in the womb - every living human being is entitled to fundamental rights, and the most fundamental right is life itself. Being a burden on someone, whether a true burden or a perceived burden, is never justification for killing them. This turns into strong against the weak, and it kills the victim rather than addressing the social issue. 3. Against violence - act of extreme violence against the most vulnerable (dismembered, burned, induced heart attack, and discarded). 4. Against racism - abortion is the fruit of what began in the 1930's by Margaret Sanger the founder of Planned Parenthood that taught sterilization of minorities and disabled people because they were the "weeds of the earth." 5. Pro-woman - abortion degrades women, treats their fertility as a defect, and enables men to abuse and abandon them at their most vulnerable (One of the main issues for repeated abuse, rape, human trafficking). Abortion never empowers women, it only empowers the men who wish to exploit them. 6. Pro-family and motherhood – makes a mother and child enemies instead of the natural bond of love. 7. It's objectively wrong and it's cowardly and immoral for me to remain silent. Why aren't you pro-life? Extra points: 1. In this episode we talk about the dogma that there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church and how the Church Herself understands that. We cover why there is no salvation outside the Church - because there's no salvation outside of Jesus and the Church is His Body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. We discuss how God has bound Himself to the sacraments, but is not bound by the sacraments. We discuss how those outside the membership of the Church may be saved, in imperfect union with Jesus and the Church, the anointing we see in non-Catholic circles. We also talk about being a formal member does not mean you are saved - you can be sacramentalized and go to hell. Jesus founded one Church, and it's there that we are united, and united in the truth. He never will put us in a place where we have to forsake one to obtain the other between truth and unity. God objectively wants every single person to be Catholic. As we continue our topic of salvation, did we talk about the range of beliefs about the number of people that will be saved. These views include universalism (virtually everybody will be saved), predestination (fixed number of those who go to heaven vs. hell), 144,000 will be saved, Jesus only came to save a certain ethnicity. The clear teaching of Jesus and scripture is that Jesus died for every single person, in fact to save the entire world, and desires that each person would live in communion in Love but we need to freely choose to respond to this invitation from the Bridegroom. After our last episode on God's work is entirely for us setting the tone, we jump into this episode talking about the beliefs of penal substitution that typically come in the forms of either "The Father abandoned Jesus" or "The Father poured out His wrath on Jesus." This is a very sad heresy that have radical negative consequences on our view of the Trinity, the Father, humanity, sin (and the penalty for it), justice, Jesus's incarnation and redemption and God's plan for us. In this episode, we talk about the issues and effects of this belief, the Catholic view, and then go through the arguments for the Father abandoning Jesus or pouring out His wrath on Jesus, then look at the very clear teaching of Jesus and scripture about suffering, the Father always being with Jesus, and the Father always being with us because WE ARE IN JESUS and HE IN US. As we continue our topic of salvation, I was going to have an episode regarding how charisms do not prove or show our salvation. In particular, there are Christian sects that believe the gift of tongues proves we have the Holy Spirit and therefore salvation... but St. Paul and Jesus are clear - this is not so... As I was preparing/thinking/praying about this episode however, it became an episode dedicated fully to the Holy Spirit. So, we go through who the Holy Spirit is (God!), where He was/is in salvation history, how He makes us children of God, gives us Freedom, reveals and bears witness to Jesus, glorifies Jesus, and reveals truth, teaches us how to pray, convicts, unites, and purifies. 2,000 years ago people, including His own disciples, left Jesus for His teachings on suffering, the Eucharist, and marriage. Today we talk about penance & mortification (prayer, fasting, almsgiving) in the life of the Christian. Jesus and the New Testament teaches and expects all Christians to perform penance/mortification (prayer, fasting give alms); to fast from sin, fast from the temptations to sin, and fast to discipline and practice martyrdom for sanctification in union and intimacy with Christ and for the salvation of others. "Do not gratify the desires of the flesh" (Gal 5:16), but "by the Holy Spirit, put to death (mortify) the deeds of the flesh" (Rm 8:13). We talk about: we do not do it out of hatred for the body, everybody fasts, it's part of the normal Christian life and is expected, it's not to burden others, it's only by the Holy Spirit, and the effects of it (deals with temporal consequences of sin, for our sanctification, for our intentions to be purified, and for salvation of others). Today, as we remember and mourn the 20th anniversary of 9/11, we reflect and pray for all involved on that horrible day. Many people compare tragedies to other tragedies to help illuminate the scale or amount of devastation... and today we pick up this practice to compare 9/11 and many other world events (wars, sickness, genocides) and compare it to amount and nature of abortion that happens in the U.S. and in the world. Today, as we continue our topic of salvation, we talk about the great gift of our free will, predestination, and the sovereignty of God. We get into God's nature and His direct/positive vs. permissive will. God desires, directly wills, that all of us would freely choose to love and follow Jesus, His predestined plan in Christ for the salvation, redemption, justification, and healing of humanity that is offered to every single person. God is so sovereign that even choices made outside of God's direct will that He allows it to happen within His story/plan to bring a greater good into the drama of human and salvation history. Lastly, a little challenge for all of us to go and proclaim the mercy and love of God to every single person and offer them a choice to freely choose to be transformed by Jesus. Happy (Belated) Father's Day! In this episode I share a few things of what God has taught me through mine and Napoli's daughter, Zelie, in the first 11 weeks. God has taught me more about the Father's Heart and most profoundly what it means to be a child of God.
