This episode was a live podcast recording in honour of the 2023 Women's History Month. This episode delves into the subject of women's digital rights and the obstacles encountered by them in the digital realm. In it, we break down what causes the majority of online violence directed at women, what kind of women are most frequently targeted, and the best ways for women to succeed in digital environments without facing discrimination. The Media Challenge Initiative's CEO, Abaas Mpindi, and Pollicy researcher Bobina Zulfa were among the panel of experts. Bobina highlighted the necessity of a systemic shift, urging governments to enact rules and regulations that safeguard women's rights online and guarantee them equitable access to the digital realm, while Abaas urges us to assess the weight of what it is we intend to communicate before we publish it. "...For me, it's just the humanity that we need..." he stated. "How DigitALLy Fit Are You?" was, is, and always will be a time for us to pause and consider if we are the ones abusing others, the abuse victims, or just well-meaning people who want to make digital environments safe for everyone. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. This specific episode had a live audience whose questions were answered by Dr. Denis Agaba. For a while now, love or relationships have not been given enough attention on the podcast but now that Valentine's Day fell on a day new episodes get published, there is no way I was going to avoid it. While prepping for this episode, though, I had to ask around for what questions people wished to ask the psychiatrist (in regards to love and mental health) and I think the question that struck me the most was "Does love have to always be painful?" There are more questions you may have that the doctor answered and you can catch them on this episode. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. Season 5 kicks off by tackling three critical subtopics: the layers of healing, the redefinition of self-love, and the wholesomeness of empathy. These topics should have been addressed last year, but life lifed me. Additionally, I dissected the 2 common pitfalls behind failed New Year resolutions. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. This right here has, for many months, stood to be the most listened-to episode on the podcast. Our guest star is none other than Mercy Geno Apachi - a journalist by profession and a poet by passion. From this episode, we learn that Poetry for Geno made it easier for her to set her emotions in motion, right from childhood to date. Mercy is one of those people who held onto their dream for over a decade only for societal standards to snatch it from them. In this conversation, she and I went over how and why her journey to pursue her love for journalism came to a still. Listen in and find out why this episode ranks number 1. Also don't hesitate to let us know why you think it does. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. In this second-most-listened to episode, the incredible Bibian truly embodies the essence of Hash Time with Nabuguzi Kiwanuka. After knowing her for 6 years, it's like the podcast's intro was made just for this moment. Chinenye fearlessly challenges societal norms and prioritizes self-development while safeguarding her mental/ emotional well-being. Apologies for the delay in bringing her on board, but let's not wait any longer. Let's dive right into this captivating conversation! *** LINKS NABU Network shop. I had my face in my palm when I heard my voice in this episode. I was very fresh in this and still walked around with the worst self-doubt there is. This is the 11th episode on the podcast and the 3rd most listed-to episode. I have published it as it was, in 2020 and the only thing that has changed is the amplification of the audio. The relevance of the conversation on "men and mental health" still stands and will forever be evergreen content until we appreciate the pertinence of mental health and even so, recognise men as wholesome human beings whose mental health should be recognised. Biyinzika trailblazed the men's presence on the podcast and I am forever grateful for his willingness to show up in my toddling stage. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. Gratitude is a noun. It is a warm feeling of thankfulness towards the world, or towards specific individuals. In such a turbulent world that constantly challenges our ability to stay on our feet, the smidgens of gratefulness are like droplets of water on a dry leaf. They repair our brokenness. They refill our cups. In this solo episode, I pointed out some of the moments that inspire gratitude and went on to answer the common questions related to Hash Time with Nabuguzi Kiwanuka. Why the podcast? Why Mental Health? What took me so long to start? (Touching a bit on Imposter Syndrome and how to thrive beyond it). I hope that as a result of listening to this episode, you manage to create moments that allow you to be the starter and a willing participant in difficult conversations. Whether with yourself or the people you keep experiencing in life. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. In our 6th most listened-to episode, the soft-spoken healer and teacher, Oburungi Bwirizayo, shared her life story, a snippet of how her mental health was affected; and also broke down what it's like when one is not mentally healthy. This is the episode that closed Season 2. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. This is the 7th most listened-to episode. We started the year with Katt Williams taking over the global internet and on this podcast we have Hilary refusing to leave the top 10 episodes. Dr. Hilary Okello is the only medical personnel in Uganda making a living from comedy. The first time I saw his profile on social media, I was sure Dr is just a title he picked on to stand out amongst his fellow stand-up comedians but to my shock, he was indeed a doctor. Our conversation explores; his childhood, his love for both medicine and fun, the importance of a tribe that encourages your craft and so much more you will get to hear. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. This is our top 9 episode on the podcast and it was first published in Season 3. The conversation highlights: the importance of addressing pain as opposed to suppressing it how emotional pain can manifest in physical pain her journey to rebuilding trust what widens the communication gap for people battling with mental illnesses As we steadily get used to 2024, endeavour to pick out gems that will help you throughout the year. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. This is the 10th most listened-to episode on the podcast and it was published in season 2. Define Yourself is the episode that captures what it is like to belong to two countries yet neither of them recognise you. The first time we chatted about it, I compared her situation to that of the mixed race - not white enough, not black enough. After sharing this episode, a listener related to Joyce's story. His Tooro family doesn't recognise him because he was raised by a Muganda mom. While this seemed to be an episode about nations, I realised that there is so much more that affects our identity. *** LINKS NABU Network shop. However hard it is, I need to say this special goodbye to you. It comes from a place of love and gratitude. I have had a few wins of the year/season 4 recapped herein, and I cannot wait for you to experience what has been prepared for you in Season 5. It leaves me with chills. The year should have ended on such a high note but on the 29th I learnt that Airtel stole all the money on NABU Network's Airtel merchant account. To sue or not to sue is an ongoing discussion, but you will be alerted about what unfolds. Happy 2024! *** LINKS NABU Network shop. What is so bad about home that you cannot go back there and settle? Meshack answers this question in his debut novel, Once There Was a Star, and in this episode. Once There Was A Star, made me realize what privilege looks like and to appreciate how we indeed experience life differently. While there were real victims of war, I only experienced the tragedy of war in a book. When I read the book, I found myself so fully immersed in it that I almost failed to draw the line between my real-life experience and what was in the book. I found myself leaving home while looking over my shoulder so that anything looking suspicious of another war would find me alert. It required me to keep reminding myself that the war was just in the book I was reading. Weeks ago, I sat down with the author, Meshack Yobby, to talk about the relevance of this book, why he chose war for his debut novel, and how heavy the creation process was. If you have read this book or are a lover of a good story, this is the episode for you. *** LINKS NABU Network shop.
