Ein Hörer schrieb uns: Kann man Wasser VERBRAUCHEN? Laut Schulwissen geht das nicht. Stichwort Wasserkreislauf. Und weil es gerade wieder mal so richtig heiß und trocken ist, wollten wir das Thema machen. Also los zum Hydrologen Prof. Ralf Merz vom Umweltforschungszentrum in Halle. Und Merz war eine Goldgrube. Das fing schon damit an, dass er erklärt hat, dass man selbstverständlich Wasser verbrauchen kann. Nämlich wenn es in der Elektrolyse industriell in Wasserstoff und Sauerstoff getrennt wird oder auch in Pflanzen bei der Photosynthese. Aber ganz grundsätzlich: Wenn man das Wasser auf der Erde vor einer Milliarde Jahren gewogen hätte und das Wasser heute, dann würde die Waage das Gleiche anzeigen. Aber wo ist das Wasser hin, wenn wir es im Sommer brauchen? Merz erzählt: Unsere Vorfahren und wir haben bis jetzt alles dafür getan, dass es schnell ab-, schnell wegfließt. Es hat ja schließlich immer genug geregnet. Jetzt verdunstet mehr Wasser, weil's auf der Welt wärmer wird. Die Antwort auf die Frage, wo es ist, ist: Es ist unterwegs. Bakum ist eine kleine Gemeinde in Niedersachsen. Fast alle Einwohner wählen CDU und sind glücklich mit der Energiewende: "Wir sind Strom-autark", sagt Bürgermeister Tobias Averbeck im Interview. Anwohner steigen auf E-Autos um, weil sie immer häufiger kostenlos "tanken" können. Spediteure wollen nachziehen. Andere Unternehmen liebäugeln wegen der günstigen Energie mit einer Ansiedlung in der selbst ernannten Energiegemeinde. Doch die deutsche Bürokratie bremst die weiteren Pläne von Bakum aus: "Wir hätten genug Strom", sagt Bürgermeister Averbeck. "Aber der Netzausbau auf der Hochspannungsebene hinkt dermaßen hinterher, dass der Netzbetreiber uns schlicht keine Leistung bereitstellen kann. Das betrifft den gesamten Nordwesten." Die Lösung wäre offenbar simpel. Die großen Stromtrassen können Averbeck zufolge unkompliziert mit einer weiteren Leitung ausgestattet werden und anschließend doppelt so viel Strom transportieren. Die Behörden jedoch verlangen für ein zweites Leiterseil so viele Gutachten wie für einen komplett neuen Strommast. Dieses Planstellungsverfahren dauert für jedes Leiterseil drei bis vier Jahre. Was macht die Politik? Sie schläft. "Das Problem ist seit Jahren bekannt", sagt CDU-Mann Averbeck. "Bisher hat keine Regierung - egal welcher Couleur - gesagt: Das muss ohne Planstellungsverfahren gehen. Das zusätzliche Leiterseil hat keinerlei Auswirkungen, außer mehr warme Vogelfüße." Schlimmer noch, die Parteikollegen von Averbeck, Kanzler Merz und Wirtschaftsministerin Reiche, wollen aus diesen Missständen das weitere Tempo der Energiewende ableiten. Der Bürgermeister von Bakum kann nur mit dem Kopf schütteln: "Wir verbieten ja auch nicht die Pkw-Zulassung, nur weil Stau ist." Economy Interesting Development – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Announces New Limits on Foreign Steel and Aluminum, With New 25% Tariff on Steel Derivative Components   Prime Minister Mark Carney is conceding defeat to President Trump and positioning the Canadian economy to be compliant with U.S-Mexico trade regulations. However, Carney is not saying that, indeed he cannot; he's spent over a year telling Canadians that President Trump's trade and economic demands are not going to be accepted by Canada.  However, what he is factually doing is exactly what President Trump has demanded. Prime Minister Carney is saying he is restricting Steel and Aluminum imports from non-free trade agreement countries, and he is lowering the tonnage of Steel and Aluminum that will be permitted for import.  His claim is that this approach will help drive up “domestic demand” for Canadian Steel and Aluminum, but that's ancillary to the real objective. President Trump has demanded Canada stop importing cheap steel and aluminum mostly from China; including manufactured component goods that are made with steel and aluminum (think autos).  Canada would not stop, because they could not stop.  Their manufacturing base, green energy and climate change economy, is more of a component assembly system now. So, President Trump hit Canada with a 35% tariff, and things got ugly.  In June Trump raised the tariff to 50%. The back and forth has gone on all year. Carney now announces restrictions on imported steel and aluminum, as well as restrictions on imported derivative goods that come from steel and aluminum, in combination with a spending plan to bolster the Canadian steel and aluminum manufacturing base.  This ends up shifting the Canadian industrial sector to making steel and aluminum products without Chinese import dependency.
