Why do you always check your phone as soon as you wake up? Why do you always make a cup of coffee in the morning? Every single day is filled with routine and chaos, but my guess is that we don't even realize it. Habits drive our everyday, both for the good and the bad. In this episode, we take a look at why we have these habits, evaluating the good, the bad, and the ugly while also looking at how we can use habits to draw us closer to the Lord.Show Notes:https://bit.ly/3ji6zwK
In scripture, there's a very important command that Jesus gives to His disciples; to love others as yourself. Many of us struggle to put that into our everyday lives so in this episode we talk about three practical ways for us to do that. This is a way of living that we can't ignore as believers in the faith. When we put this into practice we begin living real and authentic lives.
Light and dark are continually in battle. We face this fight every day. Many of us are walking around broken from our past, burdened by our guilt, and even locked down by our sin. There's a freedom that comes when we pull those things out of the darkness and bring them into the light. Jesus tells us in John 12, "I have come as a light to shine in this dark world so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark." In this episode, Bryan and I talk about our journey of living in darkness and how together we were able to bring it to light. Christ died so you wouldn't have to hide any longer. It's time to walk into the light.
How is mental health affecting the Church today? Let me press in a little further, how is mental health affecting Church leadership today? My fear is that it's a great deal! In this episode of Let's Get Tryin' I'm sharing with you a conversation I had with my friend, JR Horn, on his podcast; the Seats to Streets Podcast. Throughout our conversation, we talk about how COVID has caused new mental health challenges for the Church, as well as for staff members of the local church. We talk about some practical ways to help congregations while also addressing how each of us needs community and vulnerability.Check out the Seats to Streets Podcast:www.seatstostreets.com
What would the world look like if we genuinely wanted to know people better? What would it look like if we asked each other more questions and stopped caring only about our lives? I believe it would change the world for the good. In this episode of Let's Get Tryin' my wife, Jerrica, and I talk about this very topic. We unpack the reason this is important, some practical ways of doing it, and also the fears that drive us away from it. Let's get out there and start asking good questions.
Authenticity is a tricky thing. We all want it, but sometimes we don't want what it takes to be authentic. Recently I sat down with my friends over at GraceStory Podcast and talked about this very topic. This is that interview. As you listen, imagine a world where we truly are real and authentic, not held back by fake instagram accounts and empty words acting like we have it all together. The world could drastically change if we were all authentic. To learn more about GraceStory Podcast head over to www.gracestoryministries.com.GraceStory Instagram accounts to follow:•@my_grace_story •@gracestoryministries •@gracestorypodcastShow Notes:https://bit.ly/3tYgTNxLet's Get Tryin' with Aaron Lee Resources:
For all of us, this past year has been filled with lots of changes. I would imagine that the majority of the changes feel like bad ones, but it's important to see the good things that have come from this season of change. In episode 40 of the podcast, I'm joined by my friend and co-laborer Sam Wilco. Sam was a contestant on season 18 of the voice and is now a worship leader in the local church. Sam and I discuss how this year of change has had its lows, but a year of change can be good. We also talk about spiritual growth and the importance of community. Do you get caught up in your failures? Do you bend toward the areas of your life where you still struggle? Guess what?! Me too!!! It's so easy to feel like you have to be perfect; that you have to fix yourself instantly. I mean we are the culture of instant gratification, right? But that's not what God is asking from us. He's whispering softly to you today that you're not alone. That when you fall down, he's by your side to help you stand. He's asking for progress, not perfection. Let's leave that to Christ. How are you doing? Don't give the fake answer. How are you really doing? With a world ruled by a pandemic, racism, masks, and politics it would be completely understandable if you were a mess. I know I am. In this episode of the podcast, we talk about depression, mental fatigue and how many people are struggling but don't feel they have permission to be vulnerable about where they are. For us to live real and be authentic, we have to throw off our shame, speak up and help one another.Show Notes: https://bit.ly/3iQcg3kLet's Get Tryin' with Aaron Lee Resources:
Have you ever felt like lesser of a person when it seems like someone is counting the seconds until they wrap up their conversation with you? It feels like in today's culture we aren't very good listeners. We're more concerned with ourselves and less concerned about our relationships. In this episode of the podcast, we take a listen to why it's important for us to listen before we speak—to genuinely care about the words that are coming from those whom we're interacting with. Relationships are important and listening is a basic social practice for our relationships.Show Notes: https://bit.ly/35a7PwpLet's Get Tryin' with Aaron Lee Resources:
Are you satisfied with your life? I mean, really satisfied? Do you see others around you getting the new things that you want? Do you long for a luxurious vacation when you see your friend post a picture of their toes in the sand at some beautiful beach? How about the models in those magazines? Do you wish you were as slim or as fit as them or that your spouse looked like them? All of this roots from a life of discontentment and is only heightened by a culture of comparison. That comparison trap is what we're talking about in this episode — how it leaves us dissatisfied — how it loops us into a cycle of envy and how we need to work hard to overcome it.Show Notes: https://bit.ly/2Qj7xuxLet's Get Tryin' with Aaron Lee Resources:
What would the world look like if Christians truly adopted the discipline to put others before themselves? I think it would be a radically different place — a place where we listened to one another and cared about each other's needs. Humility seems like an elusive thing, but I think it's easier to do than we might believe. In this episode, we look at how practicing humility actually creates a real and authentic life and there's no better place to learn that than the life of Jesus.Show Notes: https://bit.ly/3g7IcxRLet's Get Tryin' with Aaron Lee Resources:
Vulnerability isn't the most popular approach to life. I bet it isn't even in the top 10. But for us to live real and be authentic we must start with vulnerability. We must be willing to lay ourselves out there no matter what. In this first episode under the "Let's Get Tryin'" banner, we start with a look into the art of vulnerability. We look at how God created us to be unashamed, authentic people. That's where we grow. That's where relationships grow and that's where the world changes. I felt like it was both important and convicting to carve out some extra time and talk about our current crisis that is the Coronavirus also known as COVID-19. I know you're being hammered with negativity from the media, government and your social circles. I know many of you are afraid or have friends and family who are afraid. I would venture to say that we've just added a tremendous amount of new people who deal with anxiety, possibly for the first time in their lives. While these are unprecedented times, this doesn't mean fear has to control you. Don't be like everyone else. Be the climate changers. Be the people who push through and lead the charge.
