This benefit took place November 19th at Piper's Pub in Pompano Beach. In one day, we raised over $7200 to help the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue and Hospital. Their goal is to build a shelter on a plot of land where the animals can frolic while awaiting their furever home.Me, Kimba and co-organizer Jimi Robinette (JIMBA) took a tour of the facility so that people would get a bit more insight as to where they were donating .Even though the event is over, you can still donate: JustinBartlettAnimalRescue.orgVodcast version available at https://www.YouTube.com/HerKimba

I zoomed with the University of Florida GHQ radio staff at their final 'All In' meeting of the semester. We chat about all things radio. It's very much an inside or behind-the-scenes look and listen as to what we do ... or try to do. Thanks to Glenn Richards and Rob Harder for making it happen. If you haven't already, please subscribe to this podcast! Thanks.
You've been waiting for another episode? #MeToo Aw, don't be #scerred. You've seen the news reports. You've maybe heard the segments on anything from Full Frontal to the Daily Show to CBS Sunday Morning. Everyone is talking about sexual harassment, whether in the workplace or out in the streets. I touch on some of the harassment stories I, or some of my colleagues, have experienced in radio.I don't name anyone because they are not all solely my stories. Do you really want to know who walked up and sniffed a female DJ's hair? Would it matter to you now? This 'cast is more just a way to let you know that this stuff happens, and it happens all the time. We deal with it all the time. And we keep on keeping' on.
Valentine's Weekend. The first half of the podcast is a highlight of my career and the second half revisits one of the darkest days.I share an interview with a band that was right at the beginning of their ascent into superstardom. The singer's birthday also happens to be February 15th. It is also the 3rd Anniversary of a tragic event that has a deep connection to me, and all of South Florida. Please be sure to subscribe! Thanks.
Two things you shouldn't talk about in 'mixed company'? Politics and religion. I will sort of break that rule in this first episode of season 2! Thanks for listening and please, if you haven't already, subscribe to the Cast.
Ahhh, the holidays! For radio DJs, it's a chance to get a little extra creative. For this radio DJ, that meant writing a Christmas blues song some 30 years ago - if you dare, you'll hear it in this episode. You'll hear 'holiday wishes' promos from my colleagues of yore, and one of the more 'dark' bits I did every year around this time, 'The Fate of Santa'. #don't judgeWishing you the merriest of Christmases and happiest of New Years!
A special Thanksgiving/Birthday episode with my partner in birthday and longtime radio colleague, Glenn Richards. We have sooo many stories and puns ... lots of puns. Let his mellifluous voice be the dose of tryptophan on your turkey day.Shoutouts to those who share this birthday, and there are quite a few!
It was one year ago on this date that I was terminated from my radio job. Given, what 2020 hath wrought, it could be worse. I wanted to thank all of you for your support throughout the years, and in listening to this podcast/vodcast. I'm still hoping to find a place on-air, and I'll let you know when that happens! On the plus side, 1st anniversary is paper, so that can only mean good thing$
I am joined by Elias Soriano, Nonpoint vocalist, to talk about the 20th Anniversary of their major label debut 'Statement'. The band is from South Florida - I first started playing them on my local show - and you'll hear an interview from August of 2000, right before the band was to shoot the video for the first single, 'What A Day'. We haven't really seen each other in a long time, but as I think you'll see, we picked right up where we left off ...www.nonpoint.com
Collapsing Lungs/L.U.N.G.S. member Chris Nicholas joins me to talk about the history of the band and share what they're doing now.Chris also talks about a special project he's been working on.www.chrisnicholas.comwww.collapsinglungs.netwww.rolereversalmovie.comwww.newriverentertainment.comwww.facebook.com/collapsinglungswww.YouTube.com/user/ChrisNicholas or search 'Collapsing Lungs'Twitter: @collapsinglung1IG: @Collapsinglungsmusic
October 11 is the date I started my first on-air job in radio (1987). It's also my dad's birthday. He was a big part of my show for the first ten years until tragedy struck. This was a difficult 'cast to record, but I wanted to celebrate his life and his contribution to my career. Happy Birthday, Dadba!
I talk to two longtime radio listeners about the connection between a DJ and a listener. We delve into how much this relationship matters - to both parties - and why it's one of the reasons no other medium has been able to make radio go away ... until ...Vodcast is available at YouTube.com/HerKimbaI also have a website now: www.MeKimba.com
I visit some embarrassing moments from my career in Episode 4 'Ain't Got No Regrets'. I've since thought of a few more and share them in this episode. When you're doing live radio, in real-time, there's not much you can do when something goes wrong. In the case of the interview I talk about in this episode, it wasn't live but was funny enough to air, warts and all.If you have a request(ion) - anything you'd like to know about radio, please reach out to me:Email - kimbatyler@gmail.comIG/Twitter- @me_kimbaFacebook.com/MeKimbaVodcast - YouTube.com/HerKimba
This episode explores how vast and tiny the music world is. I'm joined by Rich Ulloa (founder of Y&T Music), Matthew Sabatella (musician), and Chad Bernstein (Founder/President/CEO of Guitars Over Guns). We celebrated the release of Put Down That Weapon (Make Music Not War), a benefit for Guitars Over Guns - new recordings of legendary songs of nonviolence. Matthew does a live performance of his track, The Ballad of Penny Evans. This is in honor of #NationalRadioDay - the episode is dedicated to radio listeners everywhere for without you, there is no us. Thank you!
I'm often asked about the most famous person I've met/interviewed. Since that's subjective, I put the requestion to you. I ask you to vote on your choice in the music and actor/celebrity category. This 'cast features the top two vote-getters from each category. One talks about their feet, one speaks of respect, one talks furry cuffs, and one cackles upon hearing my reincarnation wish. Thanks for your votes and I hope you enjoy!
I'm often asked who is the most famous person I've met/interviewed. I feel that's subjective so I put the requestion to you! I've listed four people in two categories. Let me know who you feel is the most famous in each category and I'll take the top two vote getters from each for my next episode. If you're willing to partake, you can let me know your picks at:Email: kimbatyler@gmail.com IG & Twitter: @me_kimbaFacebook.com/MeKimbaI can't wait to find out what you think!
When you live in South Florida, the possibility of hurricanes comes with the territory. When you're a DJ in South Florida, there's an added responsibility to help get helpful information out. My friend, former colleague, and #HurricaneHusband, Ed Edwards joins me to talk about how we did radio when a storm had us in its sights.A vodcast version of this and all my podcasts available at YouTube.com/HerKimba
I answer a requestion from longtime listener Carlos about Neil Rogers. I get some help from my special guest, too. Pete Bolger programmed stations around the country, but spent 20 years programming stations in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. He's the guy who gave me my first on-air job.#RIP Scott Legere, Alan Young, and Jorge Rodriguez, who all passed away in 2020and to those who went before : Neil Rogers and Mike Lyons
This is sort of a continuation of Episode 13 in that I feature some 'theater of the mind' bits, and also the effect, the connection between a DJ and a listener.
One of the best things about radio is the theater of the mind aspect. I'm joined by my favorite collaborator, Dave Corey, to talk about how creativity is integral to radio. You'll hear various audio bits that may or may not have actually happened, but therein lies the power of the aural medium. As always the video version can be found at YouTube.com/HerKimba.
A shy DJ? Sounds like an oxymoron? You'd be surprised! In this episode I answer Sally's #requestion: How does a shy person become a 'personality' on radio? There's also an element of mystique that radio use to hold that has been pretty much eradicated by technology. Also featured: A 2000 interview with Jonathan Davis of KORN
Revered radio personality Tom Robinson/Tom Van Dam/The T joins me to talk about:His upcoming bookRacism in RadioIf you were a Zeta listener, you'll find out how Captain Jack got his nameIf you follow Tom on Facebook, you'll hear Part Two of his Whole Lotta Lunch story. If not, you'll hear the whole thing here. And a few more stories as only Tom can tell them!
This is Part Two of my love letter/cast to Steven Tyler and Aerosmith. How do you thank someone for making your dream come true but also - and without him even knowing it- helping you through a major crisis? I hope this podcast does just that. There are a lot of never-before-seen (or heard) segments in this episode. For the visual, visit: YouTube.com/HerKimba
Do you have a favorite band? Mine led me to my career and then to the goal of meeting them. This is part one of my love letter, or love cast to Aerosmith; how they came to be my favorite band and the events they inspired.
Once upon a time, I hosted a morning show with a fella named Ray Graham. We reconnect on this episode and have a few musical shares. Ray also talks about his involvement with the horrific event that reshaped South Florida and what's he's done since.
If you've ever wondered or wanted to know how radio stations determine what songs to play, this is your 'cast! If you've ever said, "Why do you play the same songs over and over?", this is your 'cast! I am answering a #requestion from Mike, and the curtain is most definitely pulled back, so if you don't want to know the innards of radio, you've been warned. You will also hear the incredulousness in my voice that some of the methods that are in place are taken seriously and applied to current programming. There is much #SMDH and #WTFs going around!
This is a part two of a two-parter based on a #requestion from Erin: Which interview did you go into thinking it'd be a challenge (for whatever reason), and it turned out amazing? Inversely, who did you think would be easy to interview and ended up not going as expected? This episode tackles the second question. Look to episode 5 for the 1st question to be answered!
This is a part one of a two-parter based on a #requestion from Erin: Which interview did you go into thinking it'd be a challenge (for whatever reason), and it turned out amazing? Schadenfreude! We seem to love embarrassing moments ... when they happen to other people. As the lovely, late Bill Withers would sing, "Use Me"! I hope you find these moments as amusing as I did recounting them. And sure, it's okay if you're laughing at me as well as with me!
Your #requestions answered! What's it like to go from rock to easy listening? Who was the craziest rock star you encountered? The silent, but deadly answers to these in this lingering episode. You can see the episode on youtube.com/herkimba - just be glad it's not scratch and sniffable!
I'm often asked how I got into radio - is it something I always wanted to do? Ward sent me a request that falls into that line of questioning. Ask a radio DJ a question, she'll take 20 minutes to answer it! And there's some ancient artifact type audio in this Cast! My oh my how a voice can change.
A longtime South Florida radio DJ with lots of radio stories to share. This first episode is letting you know who I am, how you can reach me, and what it's like to be a recently terminated DJ in the time of Covid!
