Andy and Brendan had a loose plan for this episode, and they get to that at about the 30-minute mark. The first 30 minutes is a ramble on Jim Nantz and Uncle Verne, LIV Doral, who has the most pressure on them at the Masters, and their own eagerness to get to Augusta for the first major of the year. Then they get to some of the immediate golf at hand, starting with the schedule of the week and the Valero Texas Open, which has a water park attached to it. Cutthroat Corner puts someone in the crosshairs who might be spending his weekend at that water park, while illuminating some of the insane exemptions that reward almost nothing. They also discuss the huge week for women's golf with the LPGA's Match Play at Shadow Creek and the Augusta National Women's Amateur.

The scat is about to hit the fan. When the gold starts showing up at Shadow creek, things do change for the Ingallas and Edwards/Snider/Sanderson troupe. Trying to get in on some gold action Laura and Carl offer to help Zachariah with his mines. But he refuses to look for more gold. Because he has a stockpile, it just happens to be buried in the creek under his wife these last 20 years. The quiet, little, affordable town of Newton is transformed overnight into New Deadwood. And it is no longer a safe place to be. In fact being at Shadow Creek isn't a safe place to be. However, this doesn't get Charles to start packing up his family and heading back home to Walnut Grove. Instead he packs up the family and moves them into expanding, loud, and unaffordable place that Newton has become. And just when it couldn't get worse...Caroline starts running a school in the church tent. One school day Laura is privy to someone's success story in finding gold. However, listening to the details Laura is aware that this gold wasn't found but stolen. The cautionary tale of Zachariah has come to fruition, People change from Gold. It's only after a very grueling day that Charles decides it is time to head back to Plum Creek. Is this where Laura's Childhood ends? How much did Charles and Mr.Edwards actually make from their claims? What new adventures await us upon returning to Walnut Grove?
From Plum Creek With Love: A Little House on the Prairie Podcast
When it rains it pours and in the case of Walnut Grove...it's been raining for TWO months. Mr. Edwards returns to town after losing work in Mankato and mentions how the entire state is underwater. However, he does have a plan. His plan involves the Ingallas and the Edwards/Snider/Sanderson troupe to leave Walnut Grove and head East into the Dakota territory to pan for Gold. The 400-mile trip leads them to Deadwood at which point they promptly leave and travel 50 more miles to arrive in Newton and then 5 miles beyond that to arrive at Shadow Creek. Along the way we meet the Griffin and Delano families who are more than happy to assist and join the caravan on their way to Newton. Once claims are...clamied it's a little lite hearted time as things are getting situated. In this time Laura and Carl meet an old Hermit, Zachariah, who lives along the banks of Shadow creek. However, when he hears that people are coming into the area to start looking for gold, Zachariah has some wisdom to share on the affects gold can have on people. He is speaking from experience. Will we ever see a map on LHOTP that shows the real location of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota? Does a covered wagon have really good sound insulation that it can drown out the sound of rainfall? Do you think that Seth Bullock and Al Swearengen were in Deadwood the same times the Ingallas and Edwards/Snider/Sanderson passed through?
What qualifies someone for membership in The Luckiest Golfers On Earth Club? Well…for starters, you have to be lucky, in order to get lucky & Joel Jenkins, Head PGA Professional at Mount Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell, MA is certainly one lucky man, to the tune of 67,000,000 to 1! After a lifetime of doughnuts in the hole in one category, he managed to card not one, but TWO ACES in a single round at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, NV. Listen in as he shares the incredible tale! It's 2018, a beautiful November day, at the famed Shadow Creek. Higgy and Joel were both playing that day on different teams, at the traveling NEPGA Pro Am tournament. Unfortunately there had been some weather delays, so the tournament was off to a slow start. Once it finally got going, Joel was a tad concerned about his performance. Despite getting the coveted shotgun spot of starting at hole one, Joel came out of the gate bogey, bogey, bogey. Gratefully, things started to look up as he made par on #4, a brutal par 5. Joel would've never guessed walking to the tee at hole number five what was about to happen. And then it happened! He thought for sure he was long and even took his putter onto the green, because he absolutely didn't think it was in the jar, even though all his boys were convinced he had holed it. As he walked up to the hole and peeked in, there sat his ball…and the celebration ensued! He was in complete disbelief. His friends were making quite a ruckus and he gleefully joined in the festivities, but his mind was whirling! Then at the turn, during lunch, he celebrated with a huge plate of all of his favorites. Dogs, burgers, sausages, the works! Stuffed to the rafters from lunch, he thought the second half of the day wasn't going to go all that well, and thought who cares! The hole in one monkey is off my back finally after 35 years! The rest of this day is going to be a breeze…or so he thought! He had already jarred it on number five, had a healthy lunch, then 8 holes later, threw it in the jar again at number 13! Two ones, on the same card, at Shadow Creek! Joel joined the ranks of a very, very small club of golfers that day. There are not many players who can say they have made two hole in ones, during one round of golf. Joel Jenkins is definitely one of the Luckiest Golfers On Earth and this story is one for the ages! Show Notes [00:44] Welcome back to the podcast. Jason Kokrak is a professional golfer who is currently playing in his 10th year on the PGA Tour. He turned pro in 2008, has snagged six career professional victories, including his first PGA Tour win in October 2020 at the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek. This year, his world ranking has broken into the top 25 players in the world. Another fun fact about Jason is that we attended the same small high school in Warren, OH, although he was a few years ahead of me. In this conversation, we discuss his family, including his two sons, why he chooses to live in Cleveland, OH when most golfers opt for locations with more year-round golfable weather, how having kids has changed his approach to golf, and a bunch more. The eighth episode's guest, Tom Fazio, is well known as one of the most renowned and prolific golf course architect's to ever exist. Tom has designed over 200 courses, most of them in the United States. He has more courses on the Golf Digest top 100 courses list than any other architect in history and several of those courses are ranked in the top 50. He's designed the course for the 2021 Olympics in Japan, is Pine Valley and Augusta National's go-to guy for additions and renovations, and my favorite fact is that the Best Modern Day Golf Architect poll was discontinued entirely after Tom claimed the award three years in a row. Back in 2008 for my senior project in high school, I had the opportunity to shadow Tom and his team at Shooting Star in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, while it was rock and gravel being shaped by bulldozers - they were still using spray paint to map out each potential hole! Here's a handful of courses Tom has renovated, restored, or redesigned: Augusta National, Bel-Air, Butler National, Caves Valley, Congressional, Firestone, Inverness, Jupiter Hills, McArthur, Merion, Oak Hill, Oakmont, PGA National, Pine Valley, Quail Hallow, Riviera, Sea Island, Shadow Creek, Shooting Star, Whisper Rock, Winged Foot Goes without saying Tom has played a large part in the evolution of golf and course architecture over the past 40 to 50 years. We cover a range of topics from how he got started in his profession, what it's turned into, how he approaches custom crafting each course, and his thoughts on players hitting the ball further than ever and what that means for the future of course design.
