The granddaughter of Academy Award winning  actress Loretta Young and the daughter of Peter Lewis, a founding member of ‘60s psychedelic cult heroes Moby Grape . . .  Arwen's  EP is available on the  OMAD RECORDS . . the imprint of Oscar-winning singer/songwriter John DeNicola. . .  While Arwen's self-titled debut, features her interpretations of her father's songs, this time out she's flying higher, as both producer and writer. Self-penned tunes include the layered, wistfully longing “Man on the Moon” and the beautiful heartbreak of “Winter,” showcased in two arrangements—once with gently growling guitar and again accompanied by piano and cello.  Not that Arwen could resist digging into her dad's archive, with a lilting, countrified cover of his “Black Moon.” Plus, she brings her earnest, unaffected gift to a pair of iconic tunes: a trumpet-driven version of Jackson Browne's “Doctor My Eyes” and a frankly folky take on Joni Mitchell's “I Think I Understand.” The EP came together organically, at first just she and a friend—guitar impresario Jonathan McEuen—“scratching out ideas in my living room,” Arwen says. Jonathan mentored me,” Arwen candidly admits. “He also arranged everything perfectly—truly the musical director for this project.” A select few recruits from the deep end of the California talent pool came aboard next, including rock and roll “space traveler” Jason Achilles, Los Angeles film composer/all-around scene staple George Adrian, and trumpeter Jeff Elliott. Plus, yes, Peter Lewis is present as well, slinging a Strat on one track. The recording was finished at Surprise Studio with Graham Palmer as the engineer. “While I had complete creative control,” says Arwen, who also plays guitar on the record, “I was lucky enough to get together with amazing musicians who were in sync with the way I hoped to express these songs.”   “The songs I wrote as well as the ones I chose reflect the music I was raised on: Joni, Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, Nina Simone,” she says, noting that embracing the music of others, adding your unique twist, and the putting it out there is “basic to the communal tradition of folk, passing the songs from person to person, generation to generation.” That's why, while she has no big tour plans, Arwen will play live, here and there, from South X Southwest to the local West Coast venues she loves. Indeed, she might well be singing about the importance of performance on “Man on the Moon” when she promises: “Believing in the stars that I cannot see, I know there's a way to where you are.” Arwen's talked about her famous grandmother Loretta Young hosting episode on her TV Show THE LORETTA YOUNG SHOW...here are a couple from youtube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MhWK6o306Uhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVX0tkfWRN8https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=2Ua5T9t7qPY

FLOAT ON HOPE, 5min., USA Directed by Debra DeNicola, John DeNicola Float on Hope reflects on our feelings of how we are leaving planet Earth to our children and fellow beings. We thought the idea could be illustrated through the eyes of a young mouse that lives in the Amazon rainforest near Manaus, Brazil. The Mouse from Manaus can represent any living being on this earth that will be affected by the escalating global perils of Climate Change. John DeNicola's music inspired lyricist Jason Stutts to write about his sadness of how we are leaving our planet to our children. Jason was reminded of music that affected him like Neil Young's After The Gold Rush and the possibility of having to find another place for humanity to live. After a few months of searching we came across the amazing animation of Jenna Shot. https://john-denicola.com/ Get to know director John Denicola: John Denicola (Director / Songwriter / Musician): We thought that the song “Float On Hope” from my album She Said with its message regarding Climate Change was an important song to have a video to represent it. We had talked about a character The Mouse From Manaus to represent the Amazon before and thought it would be a great opportunity to make an animated video to voice our concerns about what could be done regarding climate change in a unique way that matches the music . We looked at many animators for many months that could convey that and when I ran across Jenna Shot I knew we had the right artist for this story. The lyrics of the song helped write the script. THE ARWEN LEWIS SHOW - Featuring David Bash Today Arwen welcomes David Bash, Founder of the International Pop Overthrow Festival! As a youth in the early 1970s, David Bash knew he had caught the pop music bug when he found himself unable to sleep each Christmas Eve, as he anxiously awaited the broadcast of the WABC Top 100 the next morning. By the end of that decade Bash had amassed a record collection of more than 3,000 items, and though it's since been mostly converted to CDs, the collection has never stopped growing. In the '80s Bash received a B.A. in Journalism from New York University and a Masters in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine. Although he taught Psychology at several community colleges throughout the '90s the journalism muse continued to beckon, and in 1995 he began writing CD reviews for Yellow Pills magazine and Audities magazine. Since then Bash has written reviews and articles for magazines such as Amplifier, Bucketfull of Brains, Discoveries, Goldmine, Shindig, Ugly Things and Entertainment Today, as well as liner notes for several CD releases.

In August of 1998 Bash founded the International Pop Overthrow Festival In Los Angeles. Since that time IPO, as it's affectionately been labeled, has taken place in several cities across the U.S. and Canada, as well as in Liverpool (at the World Famous Cavern Club), Stockholm, and Copenhagen!  The aim of International Pop Overthrow was and always will be to create positive exposure for every artist who participates, to create a nurturing, cooperative environment between the musicians and their fans, and to bring pop music, as those of us associated with the festival define the term, to the hearts and minds of the mainstream public.

THE ARWEN LEWIS SHOW Featuring Emily Duff - Emily Duff is a longtime icon of New York City's roots-rock community. Emily Duff has spent her career blurring the lines between rock & roll, soul, roadhouse country, and punk. She's been a solo artist. A bandmate. A multi-instrumentalist who strums the guitar plays the cello, and writes her own string arrangements. But above all else, Emily Duff has been — and always will be — a songwriter.  "If you ain't composing, you're decomposing," she says. "I like to keep myself moving and keep myself writing. I usually write one song a day. It's been that way for years." Duff's songs emphatically nod to the sounds that first captivated her attention as a child during the 1970s. Raised in Queens and Long Island, she gravitated toward the era's roots legends and soul singers: Kris Kristofferson, Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Al Green, and countless others. Don't Let Go turns that rich tapestry of sound into fuel for something original, with Duff delivering a collection of heartland rock anthems, folksongs, barn burners, gothic murder ballads, soulful love songs, and everything in between.  She's a street-smart New Yorker who traded mix tapes with Lou Reed during her 20s and struck up a musical partnership with Gary Lucas, the experimental guitarist who performed with Captain Beefheart's Magic Band before launching his project, Gods and Monsters. When the band's original lead singer, Jeff Buckley, left the lineup to launch his meteoric solo career, Duff stepped in as his replacement. Before long, she'd left that band and formed another group, Eudora, whose mix of Americana instrumentation and baroque textures earned them a gig opening for Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. From the stage of CBGB's — where she played her first show — to the confines of her 340 square foot Greenwich Village tenement apartment where she is happily raising her two teenage children and hound dog with her husband, Emily Duff has never been afraid to chase her muse into uncharted territory. Duff presently has a record being mixed and another in production. Both are “modern records” inspired by classic American roots music, with Duff upholding her status as a genre-bending lifer. THE ARWEN LEWIS SHOW - Featuring Don Stevenson, Moby Grape After years of playing a circuit of R&B clubs and events and speakeasies in the Pacific Northwest, Don Stevenson trekked down to the Bay Area in the summer of '65. He'd recently joined The Frantics. The following summer he co-founded the iconic San Francisco band, Moby Grape. Playing ballrooms, like The Fillmore and Avalon, the Grape instantly became the darlings of the Bay Area, and the object of a massive bidding war. In the early weeks of '67, the fivesome shuffled between San Francisco and LA with record company executives from Columbia, Atlantic, and Elektra elbowing each other out of the way, with contracts and pens in hand. Signing with Columbia, Moby Grape recorded their debut in a handful of sessions in the spring of '67. The album came out a few days after Pepper and a couple of weeks later, the Grape played a killer set at the Monterey Pop Festival.   As a songwriting-singing drummer, Don Stevenson was a trailblazer, opening the door for the likes of Levon Helm and Don Henley. Moby Grape's self-titled LP isn't just one of the best debuts in history, it's one of the best albums ever cut. It's now over half a century after those heady days and today Stevenson is putting out his third solo album, Limited Engagement—Volume 1. Produced by Jamie Collins- SoundSuiteMusic, and featuring such talent as Tim Bovaconti (Burton Cummings Band), Dane Clark (John Mellencamp Band), and Dale Ockerman (Doobie Brothers), the album includes 11 stellar tracks tapping into all the genres Moby Grape explored so many years ago.   With another dozen tracks in the can, Stevenson's next album is right around the corner and he's looking into the past, present, and future all at once. At 82, Don Stevenson has every bit as much energy as those two generations younger and you'll witness this when his band hits the stage at Massey Hall. Having shared the bill with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Steve Miller, The Byrds, BB King, Buddy Guy, Sly Stone, and a host of others, Don Stevenson is no stranger to event concerts, like Chest Fever. Prepare to be bowled over by a seasoned icon. Don Stevenson - https://mobygrape.us The Arwen Lewis Show Host | Arwen Lewis Executive Producer | Jeremiah D. THE ARWEN LEWIS SHOW - Featuring Stacy Antonel Nashville artist Stacy Antonel makes clever, country-leaning Americana that feels vintage and hyper-modern. Her “country jazz” vocals conjure the great singers of the 20s-30s, with the emotive power of country icon Patsy Cline. Rooted in classic country and laced with jazz, pop, and R&B elements, Antonel's narrative songs often feature unconventional themes.  Antonel grew up near San Diego studying classical piano and cites an eclectic range of early musical inspiration:  Tori Amos's peculiar phrasing, Otis Redding's rich melodic hooks. After winning the televised singing contest “3 Minutes to Stardom”, Antonel quit her job to focus full-time on music. She began performing classic country covers as Ginger Cowgirl, and in 2017 moved to Nashville to record her self-titled debut EP, which was released in 2019. The album was praised by critics and led to tours in California, the Southeast, the UK, and Germany.  Antonel's debut full-length Always the Outsider drops June 2022 under her own name, an eclectic, otherworldly Americana collection of “outsider anthems” exploring concepts like alien romance and past lives as well as everyday emotions like isolation and disconnectedness. Produced by Ben Moore (Hot Snakes, Diamanda Galas, Burt Bacharach), the modern-retro country album features Antonel's distinctively jazzy vocals alongside virtuosic instrumentation by Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams) on pedal steel, Joe Reed (Merle Haggard) on bass, and guitarist Paul Sgroi. Twere But It Were So Simple – Rust Dust Today Arwen Lewis welcomes Jason Stutts, A.K.A. "Rust Dust" to the show! Some artists are deliberate in what they do, while others eagerly accept the mystery of it all. Jason Stutts, who goes by Rust Dust on record, belongs to the latter group, allowing songs to take shape in mere minutes or over the course of years, serving them the best he can with whatever sounds, words, energy, and emotions manifest. “I don't typically sit down to write a song. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to recognize them when they appear,” he says. Happen they did, for Twere But It Were So Simple. Rust Dust's second LP for Omad, is a deceptively simple, spacious-sounding LP recorded live in a ramshackle Brooklyn brownstone. The jaunty instrumental eye-opener “Helter Fukov Awakens” segues into some improbable guitar pop, with the “all-lit-up-with-nowhere-to go” gusto of “UFO.” The tasty “Ice Queen Sandwich” and “Speaking In Tongues” vibe together like Robyn Hitchcock cornering Townes Van Zandt at a buoyant, boozy rent party. Things take a slower, somber turn on the delicately played and achingly sung title track conjuring images of “snakes in my pockets, and a rope around my neck,” and “Sky,” a haunting, heartbreaking collaboration with Omad main man John DeNicola. There's also a New Orleans-inflected number, “Must Be Jelly”—plucked and blown on banjo and trombone—and a handful of covers, including a driven “You Got To Move,” inspired by the Rev. John Wilkins' arrangement, and a sparsely elegiac version of Dylan's “Knockin' On Heaven's Door.” https://www.omadrecords.com/rustdust The Arwen Lewis Show Host | Arwen Lewis Executive Producer | Jeremiah D. “First dance. First love. The time of your life,” read the posters in 1987, as the words “Dirty Dancing” came to mean, that sweet little movie that brings a smile to your heart and a tap to your toe. Back then, the only way to see the film was to keep returning to the theater. And that is exactly what fans did. Over and over and over again. The only piece of that goodness  that you could possess was the soundtrack, filled with dance inducing hits from the fifties and sixties and three new songs performed by Eric Carmen, Patrick Swayze, Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes and written by our guests, Franke Previte, John DeNicola and Stacy Widelitz. The Dirty Dancing album held Billboard's number one spot for over four months, won piles of awards including an Oscar, has sold over 11 million copies and will still compel you to move.  Academy/Golden Globe Award winners Franke Previte & John DeNicola were down to the bottom of their bank accounts in 1987 when their lives changed forever. The Dirty Dancing original soundtrack spent 18 weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart and 230 weeks in the Top 30. As one of the greatest selling soundtracks of all time, the film became an iconic classic almost as soon as it hit the theaters in 1987...33 years later the Dirty Dancing brand is a cultural phenomenon.Knowing the feeling of being hungry, Previte & DeNicola felt since their lives have been musically rewarded  they have been donating thousands of dollars to charity. When their Dirty Dancing friend  Patrick Swayze passed they contacted Swayze's wife Lisa and decided to donate proceeds from the sale of the "Dancing Dancing: The Original Demos" to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in memory of Patrick. "Dirty Dancing: The Original Demos" features the original recordings (with Franke on lead vocals) of "(I've Had The Time Of My Life" + 'Hungry Eyes" . These original versions are what Patrick & Jennifer filmed their Dirty Dancing dance sequences to. When the pandemic invaded our world Franke & John felt it was important to revive a couple of their previous songs from the last century in order to help heal those  in need through the power of music.. While on a groundbreaking summit in Russia in 1989  Franke co-wrote "One World" with another American along with two Estonians...originally recorded by Earth Wind & Fire Previte realize how the song fits in today's world of pandemic and social injustice...and hence a new recording was released with all proceeds being donating to several non-profits. DeNicola's new pandemic relevant version of  "Hungry Eyes"  along with "One World" have been shown recently at several drive-in theaters...including a recent food bank fundraising screening of Dirty Dancing. The Oscar Winning Duo recently amassed High Charted "New" Songs on AC Radio...One World and Hungry Eyes..... Their songs have been raising awareness and funds to support  pandemic and social injustice causes.https://www.oneworldoursong.com/https://www.taylorsimonking.com/https://www.omadrecords.com/
