Each week the writers of GotchaMovies come together to discuss the latest news and trailers of the film world. This is all before they dive into and dissect a highlighted movie from Netflix. Be sure to visit GotchaMovies.com for up-to-date news and reviews!
This is it. The end of an era has arrived. The usual hosts convene for one last time under this brand for a discussion of their top films of the year. It was a fun discussion filled with a lot more yelling than necessary, but that’s what you’ve come to expect at this point. If you didn’t know this will be the last episode of the GotchaMovies Podcast. It has been a fun ride. The guys (and other special guests) will continue to do new podcasts over at reelprojection.com (@ReelProjection), so keep an eye on that site in 2016. Whether you’ve been listening since before the reformat, or this is your first episode, thank you for joining us on this audio adventure. We’ll see in the new year. eryone! As things on the site wind down, Taylor and Jonathan come together to deliver the penultimate podcast episode. In honor of the release of The Force Awakens they look back at the entire Star Wars franchise. Don't worry, they save Episode VII talk for the very end of the show. So if you haven't seen it (first, why not??) check it out over the holiday weekend, and come back for the discussion. [Note: Explicit Language Within] Time Stamps: Prequel Trilogy (1:00), Original Trilogy (36:55), The Force Awakens (1:05:55) The final episode of the show will look back at the entire year of film as the gang counts down their top ten of the year. We are now on iTunes and Soundcloud. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. The boys are back and ready to sail away on a big ol' peach when they discuss Henry Selick's take on Roald Dahl's novel James and the Giant Peach. But before they can get to that they talk about the man behind Dumb Starbucks, a Spielberg secret, and proper poop etiquette. A special announcement is also made regarding the future of the show and its host site. Ryan Coogler’s Creed got the usual trio in the boxing mood, so this week they watched (some for the first time) Rocky. But before they get to their terrible Sylvester Stallone impressions, they discuss Oscar hopefuls like Carol and Brooklyn, and get in the anti-Christmas spirit with Krampus. [Note: Explicit Language Within] Other Movies Discussed: The Revenant, It Follows, Carol, Brooklyn, The Big Short, Anomalisa, Ex Machina, The Good Dinosaur, Chi-Raq, Krampus, The Avengers, Room, Victor Frankenstein, Where to Invade Next, Spotlight, Marvel’s Jessica Jones. Your trio of hosts traveled back home for the turkey celebration known as Thanksgiving, and while they were there they figured it would be a perfect opportunity to get select members of their family on the microphone. So, join the usual hosts along with their parents as they discuss Grease 2 (Jonathan), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (Trace), and Spectre (Taylor). Who could possibly like Grease 2 more than the original? How many Star Trek toys can a grown man have? How are Bond and ISIS related? Answers to all that in more in the fifth GotchaSpecial. Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving! The gang returns with a new format. We're talking all of our latest movie viewings and keeping the news to a minimum. Hunger Games and Creed take most of the billing, but Trace has a special Netflix treat as well. Then the trio dive into M. Night Shyamalan's The Village and try to figure out where it all went wrong for the director.
After their discussion of the stupendous action thriller The Guest, the guys got a little bit of a sweet tooth and decided to visit Willy Wonka in his chocolate factory. However, before they could get their they run through a lot of the recent releases including the lovable Peanuts Movie and the somewhat disappointing, but still enjoyable Spectre. When they finally get to talk about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory somehow the recording goes off the rails into a discussion about Bates Motel and a farm of Farmigas. After diving through the entire Halloween franchise, the usual trio is a bit exhausted but truck through to bring you another episode of our little podcast. Taylor, Trace, and Jay discuss everything from Back to the Future to the films you should look forward to from the Austin Film Festival in the first segment. However, the real meat of the show comes through in the second segment when Trace and Jay drop the dead weight (*cough* Taylor *cough*) and invite Dan Stevens over, as The Guest is the topic of discussion. All bias aside, it is the best second segment ever. [Note: Explicit Language Within.] We are now on iTunes and Soundcloud. We've done it folks and just in time for the night of fright, Halloween. We sat down and watched all ten Halloween films. Some were horrendeous messes (Halloween: Resurrection), some were weird diversions (Halloween III: Season of the Witch, our personal favorite), but some were classics (okay it's really just the original film). Your usual hosts Taylor Devorsky, Jonathan Romo, and Trace Sauveur invited Michael Myers home with open arms to dive into each of the films in John Carpenter's franchise. It's a long one, so we've included time stamps below so you can jump to the movies you're most interested in. Halloween (1:50), Halloween II (18:55), Halloween III: Season of the Witch (33:10), Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (57:55), Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1:12:35), Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1:25:55), Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1:44:35), Halloween: Resurrection (2:03:25), Halloween (2007) (2:21:40), Halloween II (2009) (2:37:00) We are now on iTunes and Soundcloud. We had to push it back a couple days, but when the regular show returns next week, we are still having Sexy Dan Stevens over for The Guest.
The boys fight through their hangover to bring you another episode of the in-depth and analytical movie discussion you've come to expect. A heated argument about the use of 16mm film inspired by Steve Jobs highlights the first segment before the trio dive into this week's Netflix pick Children of the Corn. A couple weekends ago our writers descended on the South Lamar Alamo Drafthouse for Fantastic Fest 2015. For eight days they watched some of the best genre films yet to be released. Now we've convinced them (Taylor Devorsky, Jenny Nulf, and Mike Shutt) to sit down for an hour to discuss their favorite (and not-so-favorite) films from the festival. Don't worry, just because this is a special doesn't mean it doesn't have the usual podcast tangent-filled flavor. [Note: Explicit Language Within] We are now on iTunes. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. It’s the 21st episode, and as you know that means we are of legal drinking age and things get LIT. The usual gang convenes to discuss Drake vs. Drake Bell, which Alamo Drafthouse milkshakes are best, and dissect some horrible IMDB reviews. The only way to keep the ridiculousness consistent is to dive into a film like The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D, so that’s exactly what they do as they try and figure out what would cause Robert Rodriguez to make the film. We are now on iTunes and Soundcloud. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. Your keyboard cowboys have returned for another episode of this site’s (somehow) official podcast. In the first segment Trace and Jay discuss the merits of putting spices on fruit, stressing about life, and the best part of Spider-Man 3. Of course they actually talk about recent news and trailers like Steven Soderbergh’s next feature and The Big Short. Then Taylor joins them for a ridiculous discussion of 1995’s Hackers which devolves into Matthew Lillard talk and coming up with the best hacker names. We are now on iTunes and Soundcloud. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. We’ve also switched hosts, so if you have the Soundcloud app you should also be able to listen there as well. In preparation for next week take a trip to dreamland for our discussion of Robert Rodriguez’s The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D
It’s a shorter episode, so that means we can get it to you a little earlier. It’s kind of difficult to explain what happens in this episode, but you need only listen to the first four minutes to gather where it goes. Taylor, Trace, and Jonathan come together to talk cigarettes and strippers, grandma booty, and the secret to comedy. Oh, and of course the usual movie talk you’ve come to know and love. [Note: Explicit Language Within.] We are now on iTunes. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. In preparation for next week give Iain Softley’s Hackers a viewing. Get ready to HACK THE PLANET!
A couple weeks ago the world lost one of the original masters of horror, Wes Craven. We saw fit to honor the man’s legacy by viewing and discussing one of the most iconic horror films of all time A Nightmare on Elm Street. However, before we could get to that discussion the usual hosts Taylor, Trace, and Jonathan dive into some superhero films, accidental racism, and lobsters. [Note: Explicit Language Within] We are now on iTunes. Summer vacation has ended and school is back in session. That also means that the summer movie season has closed its doors, and now we wait in anticipation for the fall Oscar season films. However, before that the GotchaMovies Podcast hosts used the long weekend to look back on the films of summer 2015. Join them as they each countdown their top 7 films of the summer and argue over who’s actually right. [Note: Explicit Language Within] We are now on iTunes. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. Even though summer is coming to an end, it’s still scorching in Texas so hosts Taylor Devorsky, Trace Sauveur, and Jonathan Romo take a trip to David Wnendt’s Wetlands. The subject matter of the film makes this a delicate episode, and naturally one of the most heavily edited ones thus far. Don’t worry, though everything is still intact including some Power Rangers, Wes Craven, and Joe Swanberg (J-Swan if you prefer) talk. It’s definitely an interesting one. [Note: Explicit Language and Subject Matter Within] We are now on iTunes. In honor of Wes Craven we’ll be diving into A Nightmare on Elm Street next week, as if you really need an excuse to revisit it.
With school starting, we had to take a week off, but that only means this show had an insane amount of movies to discuss. The usual hosts Taylor Devorsky, Trace Sauveur (look he’s no longer a guest!), and Jonathan Romo come together to talk everything from box office hit Straight Outta Compton to little known B-movie Maniac Cop 2. They also do a rapid fire take on the news and trailers of the week. The real showcase comes in the second segment where they breakdown Hulk Hogan’s No Holds Barred. Trace proclaims it his favorite movie of 1989, and Taylor gets moved to tears. [Note: Explicit Language Within] We are now on iTunes. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. Prepare for next week by watching Wetlands directed by David Wnendt.
Hosts Taylor Devorksy and Jonathan Romo have returned and brought along Trace Sauveur once again to discuss all things movies. A trailer for one of SXSW’s best films highlights the trailer talk, Sony’s upcoming slate of films leads the news, but a majority of the first half of the show is spent trash-talking (and defending?) Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four. The second segment is then filled with a discussion about Chasing Amy and Kevin Smith in general. [Note: Explicit Language within] We are now on iTunes. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. You can’t keep a good thing down. This week the hosts manage to keep all of their audio files intact enough to bring you one of the best episodes yet. Usual hosts Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo welcome new writer Trace Sauveur and the good times easily roll. They rave about the beauty of the new Beast, Dan Stevens, come up with alternate endings to The 33 and 13 Hours, and offer up some less than stellar impersonations. This is all before they have an in-depth discussion of Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges. [Note: Explicit Language within] We are now on iTunes. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. Sometimes technology turns against you. You spend hours recording, and then it decides that your files just don’t exist and delete them from existence. That’s what happened in this case anyway. So sadly we don’t have a normal episode for you, but thankfully we had a plan B up our sleeves. This is our first “Special” episode. We recently counted down our best of the decade (so far), and the usual hosts Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo asked fellow writers Jenny Nulf and Ryan Oliver to join them for a discussion regarding those picks (and non-picks). They discussed animated features, foreign films, and movies that just may have been underappreciated or misunderstood. Hopefully you enjoy this compensation and be on the look-out for future ones like it. [Note: Spoilers and Explicit Language Within] Also, the discussion of In Bruges was thankfully saved, so you have an extra few days to watch it in preparation for the next non-special episode. Movies discussed and time-markers: Force Majeure (2:45), Ida (10:00), Two Days One Night (15:35), The Hunt (18:25), I Saw the Devil (27:20), Toy Story 3 (38:00), From Up on Poppy Hill (44:25), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (45:30), The Lego Movie (50:45), Wreck-It Ralph (53:25), Rango (55:19), Boyhood (57:30), Her (1:03:50), Spring Breakers (1:13:00), Inherent Vice (1:29:05), Inside Llewyn Davis (1:33:35), Under the Skin (1:44:10), Killer Joe (1:44:10), Moneyball (1:50:40), Killing Them Softly (1:53:15), The Social Network (1:55:30)
It’s that time of the week again; another dose of podcast is coming your way. Join hosts Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo as they discuss LEGOS, Oscar-caliber cinematography, and everyone’s favorite mumblecore director J-Swan. Then in the second half of the show, they discuss Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy, as one host’s childhood love stands the test of time and another bashes that love to the ground. [Note: Explicit language]. This episode is arriving later than usual, but for good reason! This is the first episode that will premiere on iTunes. With one of the biggest conventions of the year, San Diego Comic-Con, taking place over the weekend the usual hosts Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo had a lot to talk about. Comic film talk takes over the podcast as the two analyze the hottest trailers and news, and one of the hosts is left a little uncomfortable with the idea of an attractive Aunt May. This is all before a discussion of Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly starring Brad Pitt. [Note: This show contains explicit language.] This episode is arriving later than usual, but for good reason! This is the first episode that will premiere on iTunes. Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo are back for another episode of news and trailer talk. They revisit the failings of Seth MacFarlane, discuss the high-octane action of John Wick, and fawn over the Duplass brothers; all before a hearty discussion of John Woo’s Face/Off. Usual hosts Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo are joined by guest Ryan Oliver in one of the longest episodes in the podcast’s short history. First Taylor and Jonathan talk about some of the recent releases including Inside Out and Dope. Then Ryan joins them to discuss Jonathan Hensleigh’s The Punisher which eventually dissolves into talking about Taken, the 2004 metal scene, and Nicholas Cage. You never really know where each episode is going to end up. We are back on track with two episodes two weeks in a row. Hosts Jonathan Romo and Taylor Devorsky discuss the latest news and trailers all before diving into a personal favorite of theirs, Edgar Wright’s Hot Fuzz; the second entry in the director’s cornetto trilogy. If you enjoy bad puns, getting actors mixed up, and dinosaurs then this might be the show for you!
Let’s go ahead and acknowledge the elephant in the room, we took a week off. Life gets too chaotic sometimes, but the good news is that means we had an extra week to prepare the best episode ever. Poor parenting, amateur porn, Harry Potter, and race issues what do they all have in common? Not much really, but somehow hosts Jonathan Romo and Taylor Devorsky manage to discuss all of these while navigating the latest news and dissecting Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station. [Note: Adult language contained within.]
In the newest installment of the Official GotchaMovies Podcast it’s back to the dynamic duo of Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo. The two discuss their recent watches and give hot takes on their preferred variation of Jonathan Lipnicki; all before talking about poop for far too long when discussing this week’s Netflix highlight, The Mule. The Official GotchaMovies Podcast is back for a testosterone-fueled and overlong episode perfectly complimenting this week’s Netflix highlight. In this week’s episode hosts Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo are once again joined by Ryan Oliver for an extended discussion on Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street. However, before they can get to that they discuss superhero films as “cultural genocide” and spend way too long on digital vs. film. [Note: Adult language is contained within.]
Like a fine wine we have let this episode age for a couple extra days, but it’s finally here ready to be digested. In this week’s episode we are back to the dynamic duo of writers Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo as they talk their recent watches including Avengers: Age of Ultron. After diving headfirst into the big news of the past week, they then offer some counter-programming with a discussion of James Gunn’s Super. Well would you look at that, another episode of the GotchaMovies Podcast. This week writers Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo are joined by a familiar face as Ryan Oliver makes a return to talk recent news, views, and to defend the Netflix pick of the week, Only God Forgives. It’s a lengthy one as everything from the Olsen Twins to Spring Breakers makes its way into the conversation. Nothing is safe. The GotchaMovies Podcast is back! After a couple months off, think of this as a reboot of sorts including a new format and new hosts. Each week the writers of GotchaMovies will discuss what they’ve been watching lately, the biggest news stories of the week, and spotlight a movie available for streaming on Netflix. This week writers Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo discuss their love for It Follows, discontent for Zack Snyder’s doom and gloom filled DC universe, and the excitement surrounding The Force Awakens trailer; all before heading into a discussion about Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook. [Note: Contains brief language] You can find all of our news, reviews, and this podcast at GotchaMovies.com. You can like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @gotchamovies.
