The Spin Chagrin, a concept that finds Frank having to watch a movie he's never seen before based on the random spin of a wheel filled with off-the-wall genres, continues into its third year; the twist this year is that all the categories are quotables from Frank himself. In this episode, Frank's category was "Aztec Ally.” For this category, he watched and reviewed three different movies: the horror, non-comedy Phantom Fun-World, the Korean action-comedy The Roundup, and the most recent The Peanuts Movie from 2015.

Ninety Wampanoag Native Americans and 50 Plymouth colonialists (Pilgrims) celebrated the first-ever autumn harvest celebration in 1621. While this celebration lasted three days, only five women were present. According to the US National Archives, the first federal congress passed a resolution in 1789 requesting the then US president, George Washington, to name a national Thanksgiving Day. The president then proclaimed 26th November as the “Day of Public Thanksgiving” for that year. Although subsequent presidents also proclaimed national thanksgiving days, the holidays fell on different days and months. However, in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed that Thanksgiving would be held on every last Thursday of November each year and that it would be a national holiday. In Europe, Thanksgiving is popularly known as Erntedank (“harvest thanksgiving festival”). Data from the US Poultry and Egg Association, Americans consume more than 45 million turkeys on Thanksgiving, compared to 22 million at Christmas and 19 million on Easter. Fully half of all whole turkeys eaten in the U.S. are consumed on Thanksgiving Day. Only male turkeys — appropriately named gobblers — actually make the sound. Female turkeys cackle instead. According to the US Calorie Control Council (CCC), an average American may consume a whopping 4,500 calories and 229 grams of fat on Thanksgiving Day. A typical adult needs to spend 10 hours at a steady pace on a treadmill to burn off an average Thanksgiving meal. It takes an average of 9.6 hours for a host to prepare a full Thanksgiving meal. How much time is spent eating that meal? 16 minutes. The average turkey, alive and walking around, weighed 17 pounds in 1960. That increased to 19 pounds by 1980, and rose to 31 pounds today. Around 50 million pumpkin pies are consumed every Thanksgiving. 36 percent of people eat pumpkin pie for dessert on Thanksgiving, even though opinion polls show that America's favorite pie is apple. Fully 20 percent of all whole cranberries sold in the U.S. are sold during Thanksgiving week. 80 percent of jellied cranberry sauce is sold during the Thanksgiving holiday. For the rest of the year, cranberries are primarily consumed as cranberry juice. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, there's a 5 percent increase in heart attacks nationwide. More home-cooking-related fires occur on Thanksgiving than on any other day of the year. About 40 percent of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup sales go toward making green bean casserole popular at Thanksgiving dinner. In a poll, 31 percent of Americans said mashed potatoes are their favorite Thanksgiving side dish. Only six percent enjoyed green beans the most. In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2015 Blue Sky Studios animated film The Peanuts Movie based on the Peanuts comic strips by Charles Schultz. Throughout the course of one year, Charlie Brown tries to get the courage to talk to The Little Red Haired Girl, perform well on his school's talent show, write a book report, learn how to dance for the dance contest, and have the best grade on the school's standardized test. Meanwhile, Snoopy is writing a novel about The Flying Ace rescuing a poodle named Fifi from The Red Baron. When the film premiered in theaters, it made $246 million dollars out of a $99 million dollar budget with praise from the critics with its unique art style, voice acting, soundtrack, and capturing the spirit of Peanuts for both people who grew up with it as well as a new generation of kids. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/old-school-lane/support

Editor - Randy Trager, ACE NIMONA editor, Randy Trager, ACE makes a return trip to The Rough Cut to share the inside story of how his latest film went from dead on the cutting room floor to live and loud on Netflix. Beginning its development life under the banner of Blue Sky studios and its parent company 21st Century Fox, NIMONA and the rest of the Blue Sky team were moved under Disney during their acquisition of Fox. The film's rocky development road seemingly ended in April 2021 when Disney shuttered Blue Sky. With her relentless, never-say-die attitude, NIMONA found new life again with Annapurna Pictures and Netflix. NIMONA tells the tale of Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed), a knight in a futuristic medieval world, who is framed for a crime he didn't commit. The only one who can help him prove his innocence? Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), a mischievous teen with a taste for mayhem - who also happens to be a shapeshifting creature Ballister has been trained to destroy. But with the entire kingdom out to get him, Nimona's the best (and technically the only) sidekick Ballister can hope for. And as the lines between heroes, villains, and monsters start to blur, the two of them set out to wreak serious havoc - for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to...just wreak serious havoc. RANDY TRAGER, ACE Randy began his editorial journey as an assistant editor on features such as NURSE BETTY (2000), WHAT WOMEN WANT (2000) and MEN IN BLACK II (2002). Marty has the red carpet rolled out, as we check out music from 3 great movies. Frozen 2, the Peanuts Movie and Trolls World Tour.
Tim Davies calls himself “really an arranger that fell into orchestrating,” but that barely begins to describe the active and successful musical life that he leads. Born and educated in Australia, now based in Los Angeles, the Grammy-nominated and Annie-winning musician splits his time between orchestrating for features, television, and video games; composing his own scores; and conducting and arranging for orchestras all around the globe. Tim's film and TV credits as lead orchestrator and/or conductor include Frozen and Frozen 2, both Ant-Man movies, The Lego Movie 2, La La Land, Trolls, and The Peanuts Movie. He's prolific in the world of video games, including God of War, Infamous, Sims, the Resistance and Batman franchises, Spider-man, and Halo: Infinite. He's a busy conductor in concert halls and other live venues specializing in live to picture scores, and we haven't even mentioned all the special projects he's arranged for productions like the BBC Proms and Academy Awards. And if that wasn't enough, that pair of Grammy nominations were for his own big band recordings, where he not only composed the music, but played the drums, as well. Despite his busy schedule, Tim not only finds time to write extensively about his experience and approaches on his web site, timusic.net, but counts it as one of the most important things that he does. The series of articles about the craft of orchestration — complete with illustrated examples — numbers well into the dozens, and explores related subjects like conducting, jazz voicing, and — our favorite — music notation software. Philip Rothman and David MacDonald have a wide-ranging conversation with Tim in which all of those topics are explored. We start with Tim's early days as a student, where he made his own opportunities, and how his initiative and innate musicality combined with a relentless pursuit of practicality — along with a healthy dose of keyboard macros — has served him well as he worked his way to being one of the most sought-after professionals in the business. Taking a cherished cartoon and bringing it back to life for current consumers can seem a little short-sighted. For one, you might just polish an already adequate story. Or, you might make two boys look like they have bug legs for hair. It's worth the risk, though, right? Join us this week as we reminisce through 2015's "The Peanuts Movie," notice more lifelessness recreations of beloved 2D animations, push through the sleep, and absolutely forget to rate this film. notforchildrenpodcast@gmail.com

Good grief! We're talking about "The Peanuts Movie" this episode, and, let's just say, this discussion did not turn out the way any of us expected. We have a rough opening because we recorded in the evening and that intruded on Hayden's dinnertime, so we just talked about sushi. Then, after that talking about Disney+ News, which involved some new Disney movies that are on their way, and what already has recently come to the streaming platform, we finally get to talking about this movie that would be discussed so calmly and peacefully...or so you'd expect. Go on ahead and listen to the episode if you haven't, because this episode is practically verbal war...and peace (but not really). Blake thinks sushi is overrated, Hayden leaves the meeting, and Wiese mistakes Snoopy for another iconic animated dog.
