Alexandria is a case management worker at the Tiny Village.  And lastly we are joined by mumjahdah) MameDiarra Abdur Rahman who was a former RA at the Tiny Village. Since opening in the winter of 2021, the Youth Spirit Artworks Tiny House Empowerment Village (THEV) has provided housing for houseless youth between the ages of 18 and 23. Beyond shelter, however, THEV has also become a community—a place where young people can build friendships, make art, and think critically about the world they want to build. It was this atmosphere of community that gave rise to the THEV writing group, founded in June 2021 by facilitator Zoe Mosko who will also be joining us . Last month, the group published a book entitled “It Takes A Village: Tiny Houses, Big Voices” and they will be having a  book launch on Friday, November 4 where members of the public will be invited  for book readings, music, food, and the opportunity to purchase the book. The event is free, and will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Tiny House Village.     The post Youth Spirit artworks Tiny House Empowerment Village and Remembering Elana Dykewomon appeared first on KPFA.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Joseph on a beautiful fall day on his campus where we talked about a recent speech he delivered to his community on the topic of Queer History, Past, Present and Future. Alongside and amidst three fellow student leaders and alumni, Joseph shared from his heart and in doing so moved a community further along in the journey of inclusion and belonging. You can find the talk and speech on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZCpDbhCoDvw. I encourage you to go listen to it in its entirety, and remember that words make worlds. Three artists whose voices were precursors to Rock and Roll.  Four from old Leather lungs or steel tonsils himself, Frankie Laine. Jealousy, That's my desire,  Tarriers song and Blowing wild.  Laine had a career spanning an astonishing 75 years. He successfully sang in so many genres of music and was a man with a keen sense of social justice. His good friend Kay Starr provides two tracks: Wheel of Fortune and I'll always be in love with you. Born on a reservation in Oklahoma in 1922 her heritage was very much native American.  She was singing on the radio at the age of 10. She's become a firm favourite of Forgotten Songs. Someone new to FS, Johnny Ray. Another highly distinctive voice. Ray was highly popular throughout the 1950s and although dropped by his US record label in 1960 his career successfully continued in Britain and Australia. He gives us: The only girl I'll ever loved and In the Candlelight.  Quite restrained performances from this often dramatic performer. Patti Page, another friend of Frankie Laine sings Sentimental music. We move away from the 1950s with two delightful tracks from the 20s Frank Ferera and John Paaluhi, Hawaiian Mother of mine and The London Accordion Band with It was a Tango. Lulu Zeiglar and Vido Musso give us another change of direction. We finish with the magnificent voice of Paul Robeson:  Just a wearin' for you and Eriskay love lilt. His bass baritone resonates with emotional in these wistful songs.  A lovely but slightly melancholic end to to FS51

In this episode of the Millionaire Mindcast, our guest is a superwoman, Kelly Resendez who shares knowledge and tips on how to balance all areas of your life, the formula of energy management, how to stay focus when you’re off track, some parenting advice and objectives, why should men uplift women empowerment, and how to open up the flow of opportunity! Kelly is an EVP of Talent Acquisition and Development, a Loanpal, a Founder, Speaker at her two companies Big Voices Rise and FTSS, where she also offers training and coaching and to help struggling salespeople and leaders that wanted not only to increase their success but also have balance and fun doing it. Kelly is the author of the best-selling book Big Voices and Foundation to Sustainable Success. She uses the concepts of mindfulness, self-discovery and goal setting to help their team achieve the company’s objectives and runs its Women’s Mentoring Program. Kelly is very fortunate to have badass parents who are both entrepreneurs and real estate investors. At an early age, she got into the mortgage industry, became a top 1% loan officer but wasn’t connected to the work on the deeper level. Kelly was losing all her energy as she was working all day & serving the real estate community. Those were the commission days and ‘Achiever Space’ which her fuel is an achievement, crushing anyone's standards but miserable inside. But then ever since, Kelly had this calling to make a massive impact in the world. Until in 2011, she decided to take a leap and go into more executive leadership to have the capacity to make a change in an organization. She applied the things she learned in personal growth and development, from the ‘achiever space’ to the mortgage industry. As a loan officer, she mastered the fear of rejection. Create a vision for the life she wants to feel, create and maintain the right mindset, take action and manage her energy around it. On the other side, Kelly makes a point to be a little bit aware of what’s going on in your world. Know your priorities first and build your life around that. Figure out what your formula is, & own it because you did it and it didn’t come in naturally. In addition, surrender and just acknowledge good and focus on it consistently. Choose not to focus on negative things. Instead of beating yourself for getting off track, don’t pay attention to it but find ways on how to combat it to make a positive world, learn and grow from it, and plan what you are going to do next. In short, pull opportunities of growth out of failures. Also, Kelly believed that we need men and women to work together to give huge impact in the world. Currently, she is a catalyst for changing a lot of mindsets and working out to co-create this new level of joy, success, prosperity, and abundance. Lastly, Kelly describes how the GoBundance community and other tribes have helped her to stay focused on her goals, have the right mindset, create the strategies and tools that she shares and make a huge impact on the world. Seek out tribes according to your vision and what you want to feel! In any classroom, conflict happens. And that’s an understatement—conflict occurs every day, all day long. Research shows that in Pre-K classrooms, 60 acts of intrusion occur per hour. If you want to save time for learning and connection, teaching conflict resolution to young children is essential. With Conscious Discipline, we foster a willingness to resolve conflicts by building a School Family. Then, we teach healthy conflict resolution skills like composure, assertiveness, and recognizing and managing triggers. Join Master Instructor Vicky Hepler as she leads a session on teaching conflict resolution in early childhood on this special episode of Real Talk for Real Teachers. With 37 years in education, Vicky draws on a wealth of experience as she shares actionable strategies, activities and coaching tips for transforming conflict and chaos to connection and cooperation. Essential Takeaways • For conflict resolution to be effective, we must foster the seeds of willingness by establishing a School Family. From there, we can teach even the most challenging children to resolve conflicts in a healthy manner. • Conflict is an opportunity to teach children a better way to communicate, resolve problems and meet their needs. • Children are developmentally programmed to seek help from adults. When a child tattles, he or she is telling us, “I need help. I don’t know what to do.” This is an opportunity to teach children how to use their assertive Big Voice. • With their Big Voices, children teach others how they want to be treated, a vital lifelong skill. • We teach children to use their Big Voice in the moment that conflict occurs. We also help them identify triggers and find strategies to use when they are triggered. Don’t forget to celebrate when your students use their Big Voice! How often does self-sabotage, fear, or doubt get in your way? Do your priorities align to give you balance and fulfillment in the life you want to live? We are covering these topics and more with practical tips from someone who is using her journey to help others in personal growth. Kelly Resendez is a mom, business executive, bestselling author, and influencer. She loves helping others with strategies to overcome self-sabotage and find more joy. She’s the author of the new and already popular book, Big Voices, and is the founder of the women-empowered network of the same name. Kelly is passionate about helping people increase joy, reduce suffering, and learn to think differently. It’s her own journey that has helped her create the strategies and tools she shares in her books. Kelly is currently the Executive Vice President of Paramount Partners Group, which is a division of Loan Pal. She uses the same concepts of mindfulness, self discovery, and goal setting to help those in the mortgage and real estate industries create successful businesses. Why Kelly wrote the book Doesn’t everyone struggle with self-sabotage at some point? Kelly believes, as we all should, that everyone deserves to overcome fear, overthinking, and anxiety. Part of the responsibility we have in going through our journey is to grow and gain wisdom so we can share our story with others. Kelly’s book is an outgrowth of her journey and what she has been through. It’s a personal growth journey that began15 years ago. Now, her desire is to help others get to places of authenticity and self-actualization faster than she did. TWEET: Don’t sabotage yourself - you can overcome fear, overthinking, and anxiety! @BigVoicesKelly #chasingdreams How we can help our kids As a parent, isn’t it a major concern to have our kids prepared for life and its struggles? We have to teach them to be wide awake and mindfully prepared for life, when their peers are not. Kelly found that the process of this growth can’t be forced or even affected, but it has to unfold naturally. As individuals, we have to endure enough pain that we “wake up” and make the necessary changes. The problem is that we send mixed messages to our children and make it more difficult for them to avoid the pitfalls. We have to be mindful as parents and be intentional about raising children in direct opposition to how the rest of the world raises them, or it will be a difficult process. TWEET: We have to teach our kids to be wide awake and mindfully prepared for life, even when their peers are not. @BigVoicesKelly #chasingdreams Getting the life you want Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have the life you want---right now? It’s a process, and Kelly shares some practical tips for getting there. You have to get clear about your priorities and create the vision of the life you want to live and how you want to feel. It’s not enough to set goals, because you’ll fall into the trap and get stuck with just setting new goals and never feeling filled with joy and gratitude.  Kelly says to open your eyes each morning and be bathed in gratitude. YOU have the power to change your outlook and the outcome. Get clear about the help that you need and don’t be afraid to ask. Commit to discipline and take action.  TWEET:  Get clear about the help that you need and don’t be afraid to ask. This is the last week to apply for my Fall Mastermind! If you are a woman with a heart of service and an idea you are ready to take inspired action on, apply here! Here are some of the big topics we talked about: True suffering is experienced by those victimized by the many evils in the world Self suffering is when daily challenges, both physical and mental, are created by one’s thoughts and emotions Worry, fear, and loss of hope consume the self-suffering person, who is at a loss for how to process and feels a lack of control At any moment, a new story can transform anyone’s life because thoughts are so powerful! Under the surface each person carries a deeper potential By tapping into joy and maintaining it consciously, despite the simultaneous experience of suffering, one can realize a transformative paradigm shift Kelly Resendez shares her story of losses, challenges, and conflicts within her family that spurred her to seek external gratification but also deep searching Thought Management Strategy: sorting and qualifying authentic empowering thought from disempowering thought Thank and let go of the “little” thoughts that come at you like doubt and self pity Create actionable steps out of the thoughts that come from your big voice Bring patterned and repetitive thoughts into the light by documenting and also help others find light by challenging their little thoughts Kelly is very particular about who she keeps closest to her while also believing in being less judgmental and more accepting She relies on the strength of her belief system to keep her positive in strong situations   Have the conviction that nobody will steal your joy! Especially in the conversation surrounding both parents and parenting!   Kelly and Kelly dive deep into an exchange on parenting Why you should create space on a daily basis to make yourself a priority and make self love a practice In Kelly’s Voice “We can change the way that we experience the life that we’re given. We can’t remove the suffering but we can certainly shift how we’re experiencing it and maintain joy simultaneously.” “I was able to move through and find meaning in the struggles. I stay in a place where nobody steals my joy. I’m just unshakeable.” “The first step is trusting that the universe is going to orchestrate to help move you forward.” “Your little voice is just all those little nonsense thoughts: ‘I hate my body,’ ‘I’m never gonna get out of this,’ ‘I’m just not pretty enough,’ ‘I’m not smart enough,’ ‘I’m never gonna get ahead in my life or have financial freedom.’ When you’re able to sort and qualify your big voice from your little voice, you’re able to see that the little voice is just nonsense.” “We desire connection. We also have the habit of staying isolated with our self suffering. We end up complaining instead of creating a new pattern. We’ve got to help one another!” “When you really think about devotion, it is an absolute commitment to your emotional and physical well-being so that you can be in a place of impact and service to the rest of world.” Connect with Kelly Website Facebook Blog

It’s that time of the week again; another dose of podcast is coming your way. Join hosts Taylor Devorsky and Jonathan Romo as they discuss LEGOS, Oscar-caliber cinematography, and everyone’s favorite mumblecore director J-Swan. Then in the second half of the show, they discuss Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy, as one host’s childhood love stands the test of time and another bashes that love to the ground. [Note: Explicit language]. This episode is arriving later than usual, but for good reason! This is the first episode that will premiere on iTunes. If you are new to the show you can always listen to earlier episodes, as the second half of the show isn’t steeped in a specific point in time, but you can now subscribe to the show through your podcast app for easier listening. We’ve also switched hosts, so if you have the Soundcloud app you should also be able to listen there as well. Just search “Official GotchaMovies Podcast” in iTunes or “GotchaMovies Podcast” in Soundcloud, and we should show up, or just click the attached hyperlinks. Rate and review the show on iTunes, or leave a comment below and let us know what you do and don’t like about the show. It can only get better with your help. Be sure to check out Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges in preparation for next week’s show!
