The Messengers (2007) Horror Movie Recap & Ending Explained | Kristen Stewart's Terrifying Nightmare!
On this week's episode of Movie of the Week, Daddy and Don Lope de Hog, review the cyberpunk cult classic, Hardware. This 1990 film stars Dylan McDermott and is a cross of several genres and films. In an America ravaged by atomic warfare, nomads spend their days scavenging for scrap in a blasted landscape. That's how ex-soldier Moses Baxter (Dylan McDermott) comes into possession of some spare android parts. He buys them as a present for his artist girlfriend, Jill (Stacey Travis), who plans to put them in a sculpture. What they don't know is that the pieces come from a new kind of android that is capable of reassembling itself -- and is programmed to kill.Find out what we thought! How did consumer culture change in the 50 years following "A Miracle on 34th Street? (1947)?" Big news, they made ANOTHER ONE and it TELLS YPOU EVERYTHING YOU KNOW! Topics include: Dylan McDermott: too hot to not get a shot, too untalanted to make much of it, the weird loss of the original's cynicysim, Wal-Mart, and the question of what the NEXT remake of this movie will look like. Next week's episode is about "DON'T LOOK BACK." Watch it here.
Michael and Rob welcome Jeff Somogyi to talk about Les Mayfield's remake of Miracle on 24th Street, starring Mara Wilson, Richard Attenborough, Elizabeth Perkins, and Dylan McDermott. We have differing opinions about its quality. How much does it makes sense? How does it compare to the original? And how well does it communicate its ideas about faith, truth, and capitalism? We get into all of it in this funny, thought-provoking conversation.
Celluloid Pudding: Movies. Film. Discussions. Laughter. History. Carrying on.
Well it's that time of year again, no we aren't talking about post general election hangover, we are referring to that annual culinary and quintessentially American Bacchanalia where we stuff ourselves to the gills with too many carbs, too much gravy, and bad football (the American variety).Yes kids, it's Thanksgiving. This little tale written by Chris Radant, and brought to the screen by Jodie Foster as her second work as director, is one of two films we'll cover in November that are Turkey Day-centric. Featuring lovely performances by an ensemble cast:Charles Durning, legendary Anne Bancroft, Robert Downey Jr., Geraldine Chaplin —with great supporting performances by Steve Guttenberg, and at the time, somewhat “new faces” Dylan McDermott and David Strathairn. The film is a great amuse-bouche to prepare our listeners for the unavoidable annoyances, absurdities, and grievances served alongside the turkey. While we can't always pick our family, we can certainly choose how, and to what extent we get sucked up into the madness at the dinner table. Take what dishes appeal to you (feed the rest to the dog). Sam and I offer our strategies for survival at the end of the episode, or as the saying goes in the film,“just float” —and don't forget to pass the gravy.
Today's episode Matthew and Nort review 1994 Christmas fantasy comedy-drama Miracle on 34th Street directed by Les Mayfield and produced and co-written by John Hughes. We are a comedy movie review podcast where Matthew & Nort take turns watching and reviewing a movie the other host has not seen. This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Three To Tango for some reason. A romantic comedy starring 3 one-time SNL hosts in Matthew Perry, Neve Campbell, and Dylan McDermott where Chandler Bing has to pretend he's gay to appease his boss while romancing his boss's mistress. We thought it would be more problematic than it turned out to be. So as a bonus to a conversation on a mediocre and forgettable movie we also rank the Hottest SNL Cast Member by fan request. So listen to us drool over some hunky and sexy Not Ready For Primetime Players then listen to us talk about Matthew Perry's hair. Remember a scant 12 years ago when, if you wanted to see election stupidity, you likely had to watch a comedy movie? A movie like the subject of this week's review, “The Campaign”, where you see all kinds of crazy hi-jinks. Of course, most of the zany stuff you see in this movie seems quaint compared to what you see in our elections nowadays. This year's presidential election is why I'm reviewing this Will Ferrell/Zach Galifianakis political comedy where Ferrell plays Cam Brady and Galifinakis plays Marty Huggins. They're both running for a congressional seat and Marty, the newcomer to the political game, finds out how sick and depraved running for office actually is. Marty isn't what you'd call your typical steak and eggs, iron-jawed, hard hat-wearing, sports-lovin', rugged man's man. The donors pretty much running his campaign, the Motch Brothers played by John Lithgow and Dan Aykroyd, send their man to “man” Marty up. Cam is the corrupt veteran congressman and he's bound and determined to make Marty sorry he even thought about running. That just fires Marty up even more to beat Cam but will it change him for the worse? Is it worth finding out? Check out this episode to find out. “The Campaign” also stars Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Katherine LaNasa, Sarah Baker, Brian Cox, Karen Maruyama, Grant Goodman, Kya Haywood, Randal D. Cunningham, Madison Wolfe, Thomas Middleditch, Josh Lawson, Heather Lawless and Jack McBrayer. Kerry and Collin are joined by Cinema Femme's founder Rebecca Martin Fagerholm to talk about Jodie Foster's ensemble comedy "Home For The Holidays," starring Holly Hunter, Robert Downey, Jr., Anne Bancroft, Charles Durning, Cynthia Stevenson, Dylan McDermott, Geraldine Chaplin and Steve Guttenberg (wow!). Of all the holiday movies in the Family-Gathers-Together-For-The-Holidays sub-genre, this one gets it so, so right above many others. Why does Collin hold it in such high regard? How did Downey's behavior and antics effect the overall outcome of the film? How much food was cooked for the Thanksgiving scene and what happened to all of it. All this, plus Collin talks about the latest and greatest in physical media for the Blu-ray Gift Exchange. Blu-ray movies covered: Sony: "American Movie" 4K (1999) Warner Bros: "The Hitcher" 4K (1986) Criterion: "Pandora's Box" (1929) "Demon Pond" (1979) Val Lewton Double Feature: "I Walked With A Zombie" and "The Seventh Victim" (1943) Warner Archive: "The Prairie Home Companion" (2006) "Bathing Beauty" (1944) "Journey Into Fear" (1943) Universal: "Touch" (2024)

Three to Tango was the 126th-highest grossing movie of 1999, sandwiched between two movies we have covered already, Drop Dead Gorgeous at 125, and Bats at 127. It opened in 8th place (behind Bats, which it would ultimately outgross) on the very not rom-com season of October the 22nd, going on to gross 10 and a half million dollars worldwide on a 20 million dollar budget. Three to Tango - which, we can't stress enough, features no tango or dancing of any kind - was written by Aline Brosch McKenna, who would go on to write romcoms like 27 Dresses and Laws of Attraction in addition to the likes of Morning Glory, Cruella, The Devil Wears Prada, and We Bought a Zoo, along with Rodney Patrick Vaccaro, who did not go on to write those things Starring Matthew Perry, Neve Campbell, Dylan McDermott, Oliver Platt, John C. McGinley, Bob Balaban, Deborah Rush, Kelly Rowan, and (appropriately) Sue for Swingers Patrick van Horn, Three to Tango has a stellar cast, but it was not one of the highest grossing romcoms of the year. She's All That, however, was. So we invited the writer of that movie, R. Lee Fleming Jr., to talk to us about Three to Tango. Lee is on twitter @QualityShorts

Tranquil Tales and Lobster Ornaments: A Calm Holiday ExpeditionIn this serene installment of The Insomnia Project's 2023 collection, hosts Marco Timpano and Amanda Barker adopt a tranquil tone for a soothing exploration of holiday musings. Freshly recorded, this episode takes a serene approach to the festive season, starting with the hosts sharing their recent travels through Troy, New York, and unraveling the intricate history and crediting complexities of the poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas" (or, as they humorously note, the avoidance of the phrase "Twas enough").Marco extends a special shoutout to any listener named Clement, urging them to connect with the podcast. The hosts delve into the origins of the famous poem, originally titled "A Visit from St. Nicholas," before seamlessly transitioning into a discussion about the curious category of winterwear that is fingerless gloves. As the winter winds blow, Marco and Amanda warm up the episode with talk of festive beverages, exploring the delights of Egg Nog and Irish Cream during the holiday season. The journey continues up north, where the hosts share tales of cutting down Christmas trees, reveling in the wonky yet beloved imperfections of these holiday symbols. In an unexpected twist, the hosts reveal their quirky tradition of adorning their tree with lobster ornaments. Amanda recounts Marco's tree-trimming efforts, which lead to a charming interlude about writing holiday cards. The podcast takes a nostalgic turn as the hosts reminisce about Bil Antoniou's podcast, Bad Gay Movies, merging discussions on holiday films and actors with a touch of confusion—cue the plea for Bil's assistance in differentiating between Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney. You can listen to Bil's podast here: Bad Gay Movies Listeners are encouraged to follow The Insomnia Project on Instagram (@theinsomniaproject) and Twitter (@listenandsleep), adorned with festive emojis. "Well, congratulations on getting out of the very dangerous world of haberdashery!" It's a Disco Bloodbath on the pod this week as we double featured both Party Monster movies with our friend Jesse Krempel host of the podcast Cult Cinema Circle. The documentary, or shall we say "Shockumentary" from 1998, and the 2003 film starring Macaulay Culkin, Seth Green, Chloë Sevigny, Wilmer Valderrama, and Dylan McDermott. Michael Alig's saga of the murder in clubland always fascinated us as young gays, and spoiler alert, at least one of the two entries holds up in its revisit. Long before World of Wonder took over the queer landscape with RuPaul's Drag Race, they made a documentary that looked at the events surrounding the murder of Andre "Angel" Melendez by club promoter and all around sh*t head Micahel Alig, with the help of Robert "Freeze" Riggs that landed them both in prison for 15 years. Former child actor superstar Mac Culkin came out of his 9 year retirement to play Alig in the 2003 indie dramatization of the events. With Seth Green playing the larger than life "celebutante" James St. James, Party Monster felt like event-queer-cinema in the early '00s when represention of gay characters in film was scarse. We reflect on how suprisingly poor the 2003 theatrical version revisits. The casting of Mac and Seth (two cis hetro men) aside, did we just overlook all its flaws when first watching because we were excited for this story being told in a major movie? Topics discussed include the colorful characters chronicled in the Shockumentary, the club kids taking over '90s daytime TV, and did 2000s indie darling Chloë Sevigny have better things she could have been doing than this thankless role? For better or for worse both Party Monsters are a unique snapshot of the club kid era of time gone by. Toss back that gorgeous mullet and shoot before you ask as we ride off into the sunset with the 1988 Brat Pack classic Young Guns. How many more enjoyable Westerns could we have watched instead of this? (Answer: all of them.) Is this movie the nail in the coffin for the Dermot Mulroney vs Dylan McDermott debate just because of how unarguably revolting "Dirty" Stephens is? Which is longer, the eventual heat death of the universe or this movie? Find out these answers and more life lessons under Terence Stamp's tough love tutelage.
