God's love is so great that He pursues and saves us in spite of the depth of our rebellion and sin.
Once upon a time… what comes next? A great story! The Bible is no fairytale, but full of fascinating, controversial, and inspiring characters. Join us this summer as we read about those you may have met in Sunday School: Esther, Jonah, David, Priscilla and more. Complicated people – just like us. The truth that we glean from these saints can help us connect with Jesus and give us wisdom for everyday life. Today we talk about how Jonah shows us how God's love and mercy is so much bigger than we can imagine.Support the show

In this thought-provoking episode of Father and Joe, hosts Father Boniface and Joe Rockey delve into the complex reactions of the townspeople in the biblical story of the Gerasene demoniac. Join them as they uncover the profound spiritual insights hidden within this narrative from the Gospel of Matthew. As Joe questions the puzzling reaction of the townspeople, who ask Jesus to leave after He miraculously heals a demon-possessed man, Father Boniface provides a deep and enlightening understanding. He explains that the power of Jesus is fundamentally the power of love, capable of transforming and freeing even the most isolated and tormented individuals. Yet, it is this very power that instills fear and apprehension among the townspeople—a fear of the unknown and the transformations it may demand.Throughout the episode, Father Boniface illuminates the transformative power of love and mercy, both in biblical times and in our daily lives. He emphasizes that God's wild and reckless love always meets us where we are, extending mercy that respects our individual pacing and willingness to convert. Through mercy, God desires to guide us toward justice—right relationships with ourselves and others. The hosts draw a parallel between this biblical story and our own struggles with demons, not necessarily supernatural, but the personal battles that isolate us from others. They discuss the importance of relationships in healing and growth, highlighting how we can reach out for help and offer love to those in need.As the conversation unfolds, Father Boniface and Joe also reflect on the often overlooked significance of Divine Mercy in the Catholic tradition. They remind listeners of the profound message: God's love is ever-present, extending to us, no matter our circumstances or how far we have strayed. In a world filled with challenges and uncertainties, this episode calls us to embrace the love of God, which not only frees us from our demons but empowers us to repair broken relationships and live in right harmony with others.Whether you struggle with faith, question divine interventions, or seek a more profound connection with God, this episode offers spiritual guidance and encouragement to delve deeper into the transformative power of love and mercy.Tags:Biblical Stories, Faith, Spirituality, Jesus, Demons, Love, Mercy, Divinity, Relationships, Christianity, Faith Journey, Divine Interventions, Healing, Transformation, Gospel of Matthew, Apostle Reactions, God's Power, Divine Love, Isolation, Fear of Change, Right Relationships, Catholic Tradition, Divine Mercy, Faith Reflection, Bible Study, Personal Growth, Spiritual Guidance, Overcoming Fear, Community Healing, Love and Transformation, Catholic Faith, Emotional Healing, Power of Love, Faith Challenges, Personal Demons, Biblical Insights, Faith Conversations, Divine Love, Mental Battles, Healing Through Relationships, Faithful DiscussionsHashtags:#BiblicalStories, #Faith, #Spirituality, #Jesus, #Demons, #Love, #Mercy, #Divinity, #Relationships, #Christianity, #FaithJourney, #DivineInterventions, #Healing, #Transformation, #GospelOfMatthew, #ApostleReactions, #GodPower, #DivineLove, #Isolation, #FearOfChange, #RightRelationships, #CatholicTradition, #DivineMercy, #FaithReflection, #BibleStudy, #PersonalGrowth, #SpiritualGuidance, #OvercomingFear, #CommunityHealing, #CatholicFaith, #EmotionalHealing, #PowerOfLove, #FaithChallenges, #PersonalDemons, #BiblicalInsights, #FaithConversations, #MentalBattles, #HealingThroughRelationships, #FaithfulDiscussions
In this episode of The Rewatch Party, Nick, Anthony, and Dan dive into Love & Mercy, the 2014 biopic about Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson. Unlike traditional musician biopics, this film takes a unique approach, following Wilson during two pivotal periods of his life—played by Paul Dano in the 1960s and John Cusack in the 1980s. The hosts discuss how this split timeline storytelling affects the film's emotional impact and whether it enhances or distracts from the narrative. Anthony, a fan of music history, praises the film's deep dive into Wilson's genius and struggles, while Nick and Dan debate whether the dual performances truly capture the essence of the troubled artist. The conversation naturally shifts to the film's depiction of the creative process behind Pet Sounds, one of the most influential albums of all time. The hosts analyze how Love & Mercy showcases Wilson's innovative techniques and obsessive perfectionism in the studio, bringing to life the making of iconic songs. Nick argues that these scenes are the heart of the film, immersing viewers in Wilson's artistic brilliance, while Dan points out how the tension with bandmates and his domineering father adds layers to the story. Anthony highlights the film's ability to make the audience feel both the joy of creation and the weight of Wilson's mental health struggles. Of course, the discussion wouldn't be complete without addressing Paul Giamatti's chilling performance as Dr. Eugene Landy, the manipulative therapist who controlled Wilson's life in the 1980s. The hosts dissect the disturbing power dynamics between Landy and Wilson, with Elise noting that John Cusack's subdued performance contrasts well against Giamatti's overwhelming presence. They also explore Elizabeth Banks' role as Melinda Ledbetter, Wilson's eventual savior, and whether her character's arc is given enough depth. By the end of the episode, the trio reflects on Love & Mercy's rewatchability. While its emotional weight and unconventional structure might not make it an easy, casual rewatch, its powerful performances, immersive storytelling, and reverence for Brian Wilson's artistry make it a compelling experience. Whether you're a die-hard Beach Boys fan or just appreciate a well-crafted biopic, this discussion will leave you with a greater appreciation for the man behind the music. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903657/
Bob Osborne joins us exploring themes of worship, community, and the importance of storytelling in faith. Bob highlights the journey of Joseph as a narrative of grace and mercy, emphasizing the call to love one's enemies and the significance of gathering as a community. Bob emphasizes the anticipation of waiting for good outcomes and the overarching narrative of mercy in the Christian faith, culminating in an invitation to communion as a means of connecting with God's story.
Forgiveness, Love, and Mercy: The Way of Jesus 2025 02 23Scripture references: Psalm 37:1-11, 39-40, and Luke 6:27-38In Luke 6:27-38, Jesus gives us a really important message. He says we should love our enemies, be kind to people who hate us, and show mercy like God's mercy. This is different from what we usually think, and it inspires us to be really loving, forgiving, and generous. This is what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. It challenges us to show His love and mercy in a world that often responds with hate and anger.“LOVE THE LORD” -- CCLI Song # 4572938 | Lincoln Brewster | © 2005 Integrity's Praise! What does it truly mean to love our enemies? This week, we explore how love and mercy are not about passivity but about courage—the kind of courage that changes the world.

For over 50 years, For the Strength of Youth has been a guide for generations of Latter-day Saint youth. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me. Have you ever assembled something the wrong way, thought an error was irreversible, or perhaps made a mistake from which you felt certain you could not recover? We can become demoralized, disappointed, and maybe even angry with ourselves. We may feel the moment for doing right has passed. In our everyday lives, and especially in our spiritual lives, we can sometimes fall to perfectionism. We convince ourselves that anything less than flawless is a failure in the eyes of God. Yet it is just the opposite! Our sins, flaws, and crosses actually become blessings if they lead us to a profound understanding for our need for God and a deeper reliance on his love and mercy. In our weakness, we avoid discouragement by trusting in the Lord's promise, the One who says: “My grace is sufficient for you.”

You can grab the free workbook at www.catholicmomcalm.com/lent2024 Full text of St. Faustina's Diary. Reflection question: Sit quietly with the Lord for a minute and ask Him to show you where you have a distrust of Him. Let Him show you your woundedness so you can invite Him in to heal you. Write what you hear. Excerpt from St. Faustina's Diary for today (1074-1076): When I went for adoration, I heard these words: My beloved daughter, write down these words, that today My Heart has rested in this convent [the Cracow house]. Tell the world about My mercy and My love. The flames of mercy are burning me. I desire to pour them out upon human souls. Oh, what pain they cause Me when they do not want to accept them! My daughter, do whatever is within your power to spread devotion to My mercy. I will make up for what you lack. Tell aching mankind to snuggle close to My merciful Heart, and I will fill it with peace. Tell [all people], My daughter, that I am Love and Mercy itself. When a soul approaches Me with trust, I fill it with such an abundance of graces that it cannot contain them within itself, but radiates them to other souls. Souls who spread the honor of My mercy I shield through their entire lives as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the merciful Savior. At that last hour, a soul has nothing with which to defend itself except My mercy. Happy is the soul that during its lifetime immersed itself in the Fountain of Mercy, because justice will have no hold on it. Write this: Everything that exists is enclosed in the bowels of My mercy, more deeply than an infant in its mother's womb. How painfully distrust of My goodness wounds Me! Sins of distrust wound Me most painfully.
My mother heard in her heart, "Pray that My mercy and love be poured out upon this place." And, thank God, she did.
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. The ICU can be a traumatizing place for patients, who are frequently heavily sedated, rendered unable to speak by breathing tubes, isolated by family visit limitations, and sometimes even physically restrained. In fact, a significant proportion of patients discharged from the ICU later develop persistent cognitive impairments and physical disabilities. Over the past two decades, Dr. Wes Ely has worked to improve the care of patients in the ICU, leading landmark studies resulting in the development of delirium prevention protocols that are now adopted in ICUs everywhere. Today, Dr. Ely co-directs the Critical Illness, Bran Dysfunction, and Survivorship (CIBS) Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In this episode, Dr. Ely joins us to share his career-long fight to reform ICU medicine and to recount poignant stories that illuminate and elevate the humanity of patients amid the chaos of the ICU — and in the process discusses themes that seldom appear in contemporary medical discourse, such as love, beauty, and mercy. In this episode, you will hear about:How Dr. Ely discovered medicine as a calling while growing up in rural Louisiana - 2:33How a fascination with cardiopulmonary physiology, combined with an interest in patient relationships, led Dr. Ely to critical care medicine - 4:27A discussion of how patients in ICUs can often be “de-humanized” - 6:31A story from early in Dr. Ely's career that illustrates “malignant normality” — when treatment norms led to patient harm - 10:40A discussion of physician burnout and how the dehumanization of patients contributes to it - 13:27What Dr. Ely and his colleagues have learned through years of research about the harmful standard practices of ICU care - 18:53An explanation of the ABCDEF treatment bundle designed by Dr. Ely and his collaborators to improve outcomes of patients in the ICU patients - 24:04How Dr. Ely processes the guilt and shame he feels from the harm he inadvertently caused to patients early in his career - 29:37Reflections on how eye contact, physical touch, and openness of the heart are essential to good medicine - 36:03A discussion on how Dr. Ely's spirituality has influenced his approach to patient care - 44:51What it means to provide healing when patients are facing serious illness, even at the end of life - 50:45Dr. Wes Ely is the author of Every Deep-Drawn Breath, a chronicle of his experiences caring for ICU patients. You can find out more about his work at ICUDelirium.orgFollow Dr. Ely on Twitter @WesElyMDVisit our website www.TheDoctorsArt.com where you can find transcripts of all episodes. If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe, rate, and review our show, available for free on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
