First up, it’s important to define what a leader is. A leader, especially in a post-Covid world, is someone who has a clear vision and is able to rally her or his community to achieve that goal. The greatest job of a leader, whether that leader is a parent, a CEO, or a counselor–is to find a way to build self esteem without crossing into delusion. That means, in a business setting, it’s important to remember that you work for your employees, they don’t work for you. Your job is to build your team, provide value, and give them space to grow while holding them accountable. With that out of the way, there are so many leaders and managers who want to be better. Sure, they want to accomplish their own desires but they want to accomplish them in a way that helps them sleep at night. No one is trying to run a dictatorship (I actually fled one, so I’m especially mindful of the feelings and needs of my employees) but so many leaders are confused. They don’t know how to build a business and meet their goals without being a real obstacle to their employees and team members. You talk a lot about the different social media channels especially linked in and how it’s so popular and how TickTock is so popular with the kids. There are massive opportunities on LinkedIn right now. It’s available for everyone but especially for those in B2B – here’s why I think it’s probably the most important marketing channel in 2019: LinkedIn started as a site for people looking to get a job or to fill a job. People used it for posting resumes, connecting with people they already knew, and finding jobs through people they knew. Then, things started to change. People started reaching out to make connections with people they didn’t know. It became a way to meet new people. Now, LinkedIn is a content platform. This huge shift from one-to-one interactions to content publishing is pretty new for the platform. And the organic reach is incredible right now. The best way to grow on LinkedIn by 1) engaging with people and 2) publishing more content. #askzarir #zarirmerwanji --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zarirmerwanji/message

When you’re new to sales, it will take some effort to get your career rolling. I compare this to the amount of thrust that’s required to get an airplane off the ground. It takes a lot, but once you reach a certain level, staying aloft gets easier. To make your career launch a little smoother, start by letting everyone you already know about your new position. They may or may not be qualified to own your product, but they are likely to know someone who is qualified. It never hurts to ask others to keep you in mind when the subject of whatever you’re selling comes up. Share with them the training you’ve taken and knowledge you’ve gained about your product so they’ll realize you’re working on becoming an expert on your product and industry. Here’s a sample introductory letter I’ve taught past students to use. It’s just as effective when delivered via email or verbally. How To Overcome Failure

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 24, 2020 10:09

If I said one of the hardest things about making your dream, or your small business, or your blog, or whatever, happen was just doing it, would you believe me? Because the truth is, that is the hardest part. And ironically, that is the one big thing standing in your way. Just executing. Nobody can argue with execution. Once you’re getting shit done, you’re on your way. But taking that first step can be terrifying. I get it. I really do. Fear of failure can take over. And lots of us have this fear. But the real question you should be asking yourself is: who are you afraid to fail in front of? Your mom? Best friend? A sibling? A mentor? That is what holds people back. That their choice won’t be accepted by someone they admire or look up to. You might think you’re doing so well because you have a nice, solid life and your loved ones accept it and support it. And maybe you’ve achieved your dream and that’s amazing. But you can’t give a shit about what other people think of you. Yes, not even your parents. If you truly trust and believe in yourself, you will learn to do this and they will learn to accept your decisions. And if you fail and people laugh at you, they’re not worth your time. Ignore them. People will criticize you. They will say mean things, maybe even if hateful things because they’re jealous you’re getting out there and doing your thing. And that’s okay. It’s all okay. You’re doing you and they don’t affect that. So fear of failure is established early on, but next, it becomes fear of failure in front of whom. And when you figure out who that is, I would go talk to them. Straight up. Speak to them directly, face to face. You sit down with them. And this is what you say: “I’m about to do this thing, and the only reason I haven’t done it yet is because I don’t want to let you down. This is a long journey, and I know I’m going to make it in the end, but I just need to make sure that if I fail at one step, your response to that failure doesn’t crush me.” Because that’s really what it is. Make sure that person will bring you back up, not keep you down. Join Me On My YouTube Channel ZARIR MERWANJI --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zarirmerwanji/message

You’ve likely seen this on social media. Or you’ve heard someone quote Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee). I’m guessing you’ve seen him on YouTube or Instagram. He’s the kind of a whole bunch of inspirational messages about hustling. And a lot of it inspires you. So it’s rare that I write a post that refutes his logic. But that’s what I’m about to do. Because deep down, I don’t think this is what we’re going to regret on our deathbed. I don’t think we’ll be there, years from now, thinking about all the missed opportunities. Maybe it will happen. But I don’t think that’s what I’ll regret. And if you’re honest, I don’t think that’s what you’ll regret either. You know what we’ll regret? All the things we spent way too much time doing. All the time we waisted doing things we thought we should. All the effort we spent comparing ourselves to others. We’ll regret our poor choices investing in things that weren’t worth it. That’s what I think we’ll regret. I’ll be honest, I’m already there. I don’t need to wait until my last days to look back over the last few years and see the time and energy spent on the stuff that I no longer find valuable. I’m not so worried about the things I haven’t done. I’m frustrated by the way I’ve wasted time and energy on poor life choices. “Mistakes have been made,” is something I’ve said too often. So while I appreciate the inspiration from Gary, I want to challenge you in a different way today. Instead of making a “to do” list, start making a “won’t do” list. That’s the way to protect yourself from future regrets. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zarirmerwanji/message

Work culture stems from top down and it's up to the leaders to be an example for the type of environment they want at their company. Listen to a question i got from a leaders using the #AskZarir and asked how to lead a team when his team doesn't respect his leadership. Culture is a texture. It’s a vibe. It’s a feel. To me, good culture means spreading kindness. It’s about connection, people caring about one another. It’s about people having self awareness, so they care about other people as well. In a nutshell, culture is the “heartbeat” of a company. It’s something that lights up the entire system. If a company has great culture, it can be the backbone of their success. As A Leader You May Have To Eat Shit

Authenticity is the alignment of head, mouth, heart, and feet — thinking, saying, feeling, and doing the same thing — consistently. This builds trust, and followers love leaders they can trust. — Lance Secretan If you haven’t already, check out a brief overview of leadership styles here. Authentic leadership is a style of leadership that emphasizes the leader’s legitimacy and competence by building honest relationships with followers. Authentic leadership begins with deep self-awareness. It’s really a lifelong journey of learning from experiences which build upon one’s morals and values. Authentic leaders, not fearing judgment from others, share these experiences openly; stories of success and defeat, good times and rough times. The sharing of these stories reinforce genuineness and, subsequently, authenticity. If you can understand who you truly are as a person, and as a leader, then you’ll be able to instill the same understanding in the team around you. It is one thing to understand the self, it’s another to openly act on the self. Thus, the “authentic” bit doesn’t emerge until followers perceive the leader as genuine and authentic. Followers come to perceive their leader in this way when the leader’s behavior over time remains consistent with his or her morals and values. In short, to become an authentic leader one must Strongly internalize morals and values Let these morals and values drive behavior Be transparent with personal strengths and weaknesses Despite authentic leaders being genuine (or, original), they share many characteristics and behaviors. Typically, authentic leaders: Are mission driven Focus on the long-term Communicate openly about strengths and weaknesses Demonstrate behaviors which induce trust Own their mistakes Constantly grow and learn Structure their teams and organizational systems around personal morals and values Don’t have a separation of professional and personal life — their professional life is their personal life as it is how they express themselves Authentic leadership holds making the most of our strengths, recognising and trading on our weaknesses and taking full self-accountability for the impact we have on others. — Steve Robinson As the leader, [you] need to empower those around you to do their jobs, but it also means something else: you need to be able to take the hit and eat crap once in a while. Do You Believe In Yourself As A Sales Professional?

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 29, 2019 6:36

Believing in yourself is the first step to success in sales. A lack of self-confidence will be evident to others and cause them to hesitate doing business with you. On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being “outstanding”), how strongly do you believe in your abilities as a sales professional? I’m going to assume you believe in your product. If you don’t, stop reading and start researching a product that you can believe in. Your own experience with and conviction in the value of your product will impact your sales as much as — if not more than — any selling strategy I can teach you. Now, back to the original question, do you believe in yourself? Do you believe in your abilities, your competence as a sales professional? Really think about this. You probably aren’t equally good in all areas of the sales process. Few are. If you believe yourself to be great at prospecting, yet less-than-great at qualifying, you may be doubling your presentation time (presenting once to the non-decision-maker and again to the real decision-maker). If you’re great at presenting, but hesitant about asking people for their money, your ratios will show it. Any of those things can negatively impact your belief in your ability to succeed. Ask yourself, and honestly answer these questions: Do I start my day feeling physically and mentally at the top of my game? Is my day well-planned, allowing for emergencies, or will I figure out my schedule when I get to work? Is my hair well-cut and styled? Are my nails manicured (even if they’re self-manicured)? Does my clothing fit well and comfortably? Is it pressed and clean (no spots or stains)? Is my mode of transportation in good repair and clean? Are my presentation materials so well organized that I could give a sound presentation should I meet a qualified client while I’m out and about? Am I generally prepared to be all I can be as a true sales professional? Each of the areas listed above impact your belief about how your day will unfold. If you’re wondering in the back of your mind if the client will notice your scuffed shoes, you’re not at your best in the “front of your mind” where effective selling occurs. If you notice you’re running low on gas on the way to a client meeting, you’ve just upped your stress level. If your desk or computer screen has multiple projects going at once, how much of an impact do you think you’ll be able to make with each one? True sales professionals understand how important their beliefs, attitudes, and self-discipline skills are to their careers. They take care of themselves physically and mentally to be at the top of their games when in the selling arena. They pay attention to their grooming. They invest in quality clothing. They take advantage of organizational skills, strategies to help them focus, and preparation time. All of these things enhance their ability to believe in themselves as professionals thus doing the best job possible for the people they serve. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zarirmerwanji/message

So many of you complain about not having money to start a business, invest in ads, or build your personal brand. But at the same time, you have things laying around the house that you could sell online. You could take the time you spend watching House of Cards or Game of Thrones, and use it to find out what products are worth on eBay. You could out what your clothes are worth. Find out what your old electronics are worth. Find out what toys are worth. And you could use that data to start selling products you already have, flip stuff from thrift stores, or sell stuff from the “free” section of Craigslist. Secret To Creating Content On Social Media | W/Cruz Lake

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 15, 2019 69:23

There’s no reason in today’s world not to be creating content online. Whether that’s your vlog on Youtube, pictures on Instagram, articles on Medium, or a podcast on iTunes. My friends, the key to content success online is you’ve got to start doing. Let me tell you how. Just Start. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO TALK ABOUT? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN FOR? Look yourself in the mirror right now and ask yourself “What do I want to do every day for the rest of my life?” Do that. Do it now. People are stuck because the fear of losing trumps the excitement of victory. This is insane! You have one life. You have to do. Everyone who ever did anything had to start. Most people don’t begin with a grand vision. They start with an idea and an action. Through the process of doing they build something greater. No one thought Facebook would succeed to this level. The vast majority thought I couldn’t sell wine on the internet. No one believed that computers would be in every home. All ideas are considered insane until executed. The key is to just start. The truth is that in today’s world, you don’t need much. The cost of being an artist, or starting a business, or connecting with an influencer is practically zero. If you have a smartphone and access to the internet, anything is possible. There are really only three ways in which humans can communicate. Either through audio, video, or the written word. It’s fairly simple. And the only thing people need to understand is that the the platforms have changed. Before it used to be writing a book and now it’s on Medium. Before it was drive-time radio and now it’s a podcast. Before it was reality tv and now it’s a vlog. That’s just the truth. STEP 1: START WITH YOUR MANIFESTO You have to start with your manifesto. Your “what” and your “why.” What are you into? What do you want to do? Do you like health and fitness? Do you want to be in strategy? Do you like social media? Are you trying to sell sneakers? Tell me where you are and where you want to be. It can be a document, a video or a voice memo. Find your medium and create. Once you decide where you want to be, you need to share your story and whether it’s your mission or who you are today, it has to be your truth. Don’t tell me you’re an entrepreneur if you have never sold anything in your life. Tell me that you’re aspiring or interested in business. Tell the world exactly what you are thinking about it. The practicality of defining your voice is powerful. If somebody made a video eight years ago that said they think fashion should be high/low, and that people should wear expensive clothes and inexpensive clothes together in one wardrobe, they would have been the queen or king of the vision of the fashion industry just by making a 2 minute clip. It’s pretty cool. That’s what legacy is about. Whether it’s a video, article or Instagram story, you just have to tell the world and speak your truth. And by the way, things will definitely change. You may like soccer today or entrepreneurship tomorrow or art the next day. It doesn’t matter. Just get your thoughts out there. Done is better than perfect. For me, it’s just painful because I create an obnoxious amount of content discussing strategy but none of you actually act. You just keep watching. Scrolling through my stuff. Keep being entertained by my “energy.” Keep being inspired by my “message.” But the fact of the matter is you just don’t do. Please Stop Demonizing Hard Work

Ultimately, how much you should work is a conversation of “one.” It’s a conversation you need to have with yourself. I have no interest in imposing my will on anybody. I love working, but I also don’t want to push people to work super hard because they might have different goals. Working hard might not make them happy or fulfilled. At the end of the day, my vlog and my content is about sharing my journey and perspectives as an entrepreneur. As someone who loves working, I’m just sharing what makes me happy and what works for me. And at the end of the day, that’s what I want for other people – I want them to be happy. If you’re complaining about working a job you hate, I think it makes a lot of sense to give up a little bit of short term leisure to try to solve your problems (by building a side hustle you’re passionate about) instead of escaping them through Netflix or something else. That being said… I notice a lot of people pushing back against hard work in the recent months. There’s this concept that you can accomplish enormous things by working “smart” without working hard. There are a few things I have to say about this mindset… WHEN YOU’RE DOING WHAT YOU LOVE, WORK DOESN’T FEEL LIKE “WORK” A big part of why people don’t want to work hard is because we hear stories of older people feeling regret for spending “too much time” in the office. Many people look back on their lives and wish they didn’t work as hard. Totally respect that. I completely understand where people are coming from in that regard. I get that people have their own perspectives on what they should or shouldn’t have done, and I don’t want to judge that. What I will say is, many of those people who spent years working for money might have enjoyed their work more if they worked hard on something they loved doing. When you love what you do, it’s not as difficult to work hard. Tweet me @ZarirMerwanji and let me know how hard you’re working --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zarirmerwanji/message
