The Warning Wrapped in Fiction Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged used to be considered dystopian fiction. Now, for many of us watching the modern world unravel, it feels more like a prophetic blueprint. In this episode, we dive into the eerie parallels between Rand's vision of a crumbling society—and the slow collapse playing out around us today. The Rise of Incompetence In Atlas Shrugged, skilled workers, engineers, and innovators walk away as bureaucrats and paper-pushers take control. Sound familiar? Today, government agencies balloon with red tape while infrastructure, like trains, power grids, and bridges, worsens yearly. Expertise is ignored. Bureaucracy is rewarded. And the people who still know how to do things are being sidelined. Demonizing the Productive Rand warned about the demonization of success. Look around: entrepreneurship is labeled “privilege,” working too hard is “toxic,” and profit is a dirty word. In the novel, those who produced were taxed and regulated into silence. In real life, we see a culture that punishes competence and celebrates mediocrity. This isn't theory—it's happening now. Blackouts, Shortages, and Stalled Supply Chains In the book, trains stop running. Entire cities lose power. Goods vanish from shelves. It's no longer far-fetched. Between supply chain collapses, energy instability, and labor strikes, we're seeing real-world echoes of Rand's fictional breakdown. Factories closing. Supermarkets thin on essentials. Delivery delays are stretching from days to months. Who Is John Galt? In Atlas Shrugged, the productive minority goes into hiding, refusing to support a system that punishes effort. In our world, many are quitting high-stress jobs, moving off-grid, or finding ways to live with less government and more independence. That's where preppers shine—we've been preparing for this shift all along. Lessons for Preppers Don't count on the system. It's already showing cracks. Reward competence—in yourself and in your community. Value production over appearances. Skill beats status every time. Build your parallel systems—food, power, comms, security. Be ready to walk away from broken structures before they fall on you. Final Thought Whether or not you agree with Ayn Rand's philosophy, one thing's clear: Atlas Shrugged isn't just a book anymore. It's a warning. And it's being played out in slow motion. Preppers aren't shocked—we've seen it coming. But now it's time to act like we mean it. Because when the world shrugs… you'd better be standing.

Cold Open (into silence)You love Dune? Like me?Frank Herbert is dead... wrong.Fear is NOT the mind-killer. Denial is.[Music ]IntroYou're listening to AutisticAF Out Loud. One voice. Raw. Real. Fiercely Neurodivergent. Since 1953.Season 5, Episode 5. Attacks on neurodivergence, facing our fears, finding our strength. Today we're talking threats, resistance, and the power of a hundred million voices. Just one autistic elder's truth. I'm Johnny Profane.Content Note: political violence, eugenics, genocide, institutionalized discrimination, systemic oppression + experiences & opinions of one autistic voice... in my 70s.[Music]You love Dune? Like me?Frank Herbert is dead... wrong.Fear is NOT the mind-killer. Denial is.I must honor my fear.Fear is my guardian. My junkyard dog. My screaming siren.Fear is the warning of annihilation. It must be heeded.I will embrace my fear. Then share its wisdom.I will let it flow through me. Become purpose & strength. And when we have acted? I will remember… its lessons.Where the Beast of Fear once stood, we will now stand. We will abide. Stronger for having feared… then acted… Together.Trust me. I know a lot about fear. I'm autistic. ADHD, too. In my 70s.Living in dangerous times in America. And we got a lot more to fear… than fear itself.[Music]Hey... you know how this works. If this resonates, now might be a good time to like, share… maybe text a link to a friend. Really helps get the word out.Trump administration identifies Autism & ADHD as "dire threats to the American people."Some folks called this headline hyperbole. Click-bait exaggeration. To my face. With hostility. Calling out what they see as “fear-mongering.”One fellow autist on LinkedIn really tore me a new one along those lines. Tried to anyways. I got a bit strong on her ass… So she blocked me. Exercising her denial. But this is how it starts. The White House labeled us a "dire threat." Not as evil actors, but based on our condition… our existence itself. Autism as a "dire threat." Not a difference. Then throwing out a gratuitous observation... “77% of young adults do not qualify for the military based in larger part on their health scores.” (Full Whitehouse.gov post.)As if that is how America now measures the value of our lives. As cannon fodder. As if there aren't now… and haven't been throughout history… Neurodivergent warriors.Demonizing all the disabled. All the Different. As if we are the ones destroying America.I'm struggling. I'm terrified...Even knowing that cruel terror is their purpose. Didn't help watching Man in the High Castle lately. The scene where ashes are falling because they're cremating the old and defective...I'm toast.About 1:43 in the YouTube linked in text.{video clip in text}This terror? Not just my personal problem. We neurodivergents ain't a small marginalized group. The numbers tell a bigger story:* About 30 million Americans have direct family ties to an autistic person* Roughly another 30 million have cousins or close relatives who are autistic* 60 million. That's 1 in 6 Americans with close autistic connectionsBut we're just getting started. Add in ADHD, even accounting for overlap between conditions, the numbers become staggering:* 69 million Americans have immediate family members affected* 75 million have extended family affected* Nearly 1 in 4 American families impactedWithout considering the millions of families affected by other disabilities. All these figures are back of the envelope. Conservative estimates from current prevalence rates. No formal research exists yet on these numbers. But the truth is clear…We're talking 1 in 4 American families?Let that sink in.When do we stop seeing these numbers as statistics? And start seeing the faces of neighbors. Your friends. Your loved ones? When are we ready to stand together?Even if they don't round us all up right away…They're already killing education programs. For Autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, speech, hearing, vision, physical disabilities…Personally I'm secretly pleased to see torturous ABA-based programs unfunded. Applied Behavioral Analysis forces change on helpless autistic children. Screw that noise. But caring parents across the nation? They want support for their kids. They're showing up at Town Halls. Getting loud about these recent cuts. Expressing fear and anger. Hurting kids cuts deep. And wide.Worse yet? Over 80% of us autistics are unemployed or underemployed. Think about it. That means killing our Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, Food Stamps, Housing, etc. That's institutionalized Economic violence. A soft means of killing us off. And Soft Genocide is the deadliest kind. It goes unnoticed. Unmourned. But, hey, it's not only lost benefits I'm worried about.Underlying many of Trump's policies?Turn over a rock on most? You'll find the sinister grin of “Eugenics” staring up at you. That debunked, unscientific program to improve human “breeding stock.” By terminating the reproduction of “Undesirables.”By any means necessary. Isolation, deportation, starvation, illness, violence, death. Just like Nazi Germany, against all disabilities. Libertarian Survival of the Fittest. At its finest.Ayn Rand would be so proud. “Meritocracy” my ass…Denial begins with dismissal. Violence begins with hate speech.Notice the subtle, insidious damage done here. Labeling neurodivergence and other differences as "dire threats." That may be the most dangerous aspect of this White House publication.Like they weaponized Disability, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) through propaganda. It's how it starts. The slow slide to genocide. We've seen this before. The marginalization of minorities."Do you want a BLIND person at the FAA?“Would you trust a PARALYZED person holding your life in their hands?""Do you see a WOMAN on the front lines… defending you? A transgender?”"How about an IMMIGRANT raping your daughter?”Mockery becomes hate speech.Becomes mass hatred.Becomes normalized violence. It's right there in the authoritarian… even Fascist… playbook. Now? It's The American Way.First, we're other. Then, we're less than human.A burden.A danger. Finally…A targetFor violence. And hate crimes against Americans with disabilities have risen 29.5% over the last five years. As American political discourse has darkened.See what I mean? Can we turn our horror into action? The very point of these propaganda tactics is terror.Threatening humans' income, medical care, housing… lives? That's terrorism. How can we possibly fight our fear becoming terror? This may encourage you. The sheer number of American families. Who are seeing their loved ones threatened.A 100 million... or more... affected American disabled families? I believe we can raise a decent reaction. If we act together.I've proven over and over again in my life I'm no leader. Executive functioning? Hell, I struggle to find topic sentences. Decisions over local action, political organization, resistance demonstrations? Beyond me.So I'm not about to create some Neurodivergent Justice League or anything. But one thing that someone like me can do? That is positive? Put a human face on suffering. Without spinning toxic positivity. You may disagree. I understand. Nevertheless?I have value. And this warning has merit. It can gather a crowd. Maybe more capable folks who can run with it.YET… There are 4 things we can do right now to effect change:* Share this warning. With friends. With government representatives. Make it visible. Make it heard.* Join the conversation below in comments. Your story matters. Your voice counts.* Connect with organizations already fighting this fight. They need our numbers. And maybe most important…* Create a mutual support network. Might be neighbors who check in with each other. Or more… shared travel, shopping together, mutual defense. A small community of choice.Fear is not the enemy…Fear is the Dance of Shiva, baby. When that Hindu god becomes the “Destroyer of Worlds" in the famous Oppenheimer quote. His flashing feet destroying the illusion of denial.Invoking a new creation.Feel your fear.Ride it.DO somethingWith its strength.Together, maybe… just may be...We can destroy ignorance. Make something… new.We must honor our fear. Then act. Together.OutroIn coming weeks, we'll challenge the medical model of autism, with an episode called, "CBT...? Never Worked for Autistic Me." Why? In this episode, The Crypto Ponzi Scheme Avenger—Danny de Hek—dives deep into Megan Lynch's latest attempt at gaslighting her audience into believing the VYB scheme is anything but another shady MLM scam. If you've ever wondered how scammers manipulate people into staying loyal to a sinking ship, this is the episode for you!Megan's video is a psychological rollercoaster, packed with blame-shifting, emotional manipulation, and classic cult-like MLM tactics designed to keep people trapped in the illusion of financial success. She categorises people into "quitters," "players," "workers," and "studs," making it clear that if you question the business model or fail to recruit others, you're just a weak-minded loser who doesn't "want it bad enough."But let's be real—this is not about mindset or hard work. This is about a system that benefits the people at the top while everyone else fights for scraps. The red flags are everywhere:

Summary In this post, we explore different ways of understanding and measuring malevolence and explain why individuals with concerning levels of malevolence are common enough, and likely enough to become and remain powerful, that we expect them to influence the trajectory of the long-term future, including by increasing both x-risks and s-risks. For the purposes of this piece, we define malevolence as a tendency to disvalue (or to fail to value) others' well-being (more). Such a tendency is concerning, especially when exhibited by powerful actors, because of its correlation with malevolent behaviors (i.e., behaviors that harm or fail to protect others' well-being). But reducing the long-term societal risks posed by individuals with high levels of malevolence is not straightforward. Individuals with high levels of malevolent traits can be difficult to recognize. Today we address a great conversation that occurred on the Diary of a CEO debating the economic effects of Trump's election. The conversation quickly turned into the global crisis of masculinity today and the commentators found themselves unexpectedly on common grounds. John Heinen and Devin Schadt listen and respond to clips from atheist Scott Galloway, agnostic Konstantin Kisin, Daniel Priestly, and Steven Bartlett as they try and make worldly sense of what it means to be a man. We discuss the overwhelming large global issue that occurs when masculinity is denied, Trump's view of masculinity, why men need a code of life, and how to raise sons in times like these.
Talking points: culture, masculinityBroad-brushing things doesn't help us progress. Broad-brushing people is even worse. “Alcohol is poison.” “It's toxic—why would I put it in my body?” These are common refrains from people who quit drinking. But are they helpful in reshaping your relationship with alcohol? Humans have used alcohol for centuries to alter how they feel. Demonizing it or treating it as entirely good or entirely bad can block you from deciding its role in your life. In today's episode, I explore why this black-and-white mindset lacks nuance, prevents curiosity, and how shame and guilt, while effective in the short term, rarely lead to lasting change. Lori was born in suburban Chicago, IL, in 1951. Her family lived in several midwestern states throughout her childhood, including Omaha, NE, Kansas City, MO, and Des Moines, IA. Her father died of a third heart attack when he was 52 years old. She was 16 years old. After his death, her mother decided to move the family to upstate New York, where her family lived. She died a year after they moved. She was 18 years old. She finished high school in Rochester, NY, received a BA in English from Buffalo State College, and an MS in instructional technology from Rochester institute of Technology. She has been a technical writer in the software industry, and moved to northern California to accept a job offer as a technical writer. She lives just north of San Jose, CA, with her cat, Daisy. She loved meat as far back as she can remember, even as a tot. However, she never liked vegetables and wouldn't eat them. No one knew much about nutrition back then, and her mom thought that giving her more potatoes might help. But that only unleashed an attraction to, and later an addiction to, carbohydrates, which was later joined by a love of sugar. Despite these emerging bad eating patterns, she was a thin, energetic, healthy child -- until adolescence. Then, the bad stuff caught up with her. She was having more digestive problems and was gaining weight. The digestive problems worsened and turned into inflammatory bowel disease, which she suffered from for nearly 3 decades. In 2019, her colon was pretty much totally destroyed, and she had a complete procto-colectomy (removal of colon and rectum). She now wears an ileostomy bag. She knew she had to change her eating, and she went through several steps -- low carb, then keto, then ketovore, then to carnivore. (A video from Dr. Berry was a game-changer.) Looking back, it's almost a miracle that she embraced carnivore and has thrown off ALL carbohydrates and ALL sugar. Her diet now comes down to two words: EAT MEAT. She's realized several blessings from the carnivore way of eating -- normalized blood pressure and blood sugar, faster healing from bruises and minor injuries, no more belly fat, no more digestive pain...and best of all, far greater mental clarity. She never believed in a million years that she would ever be able to be free of carbs and sugar! In Part 1 of this series, Miyanovich gives his opinion on the number one reason behind the definitive Trump win: the lack of real leadership in the Democratic Party. He also discusses: the now toxic political and cultural reality on the left, the illiberality of not voting, the dynamics of the human "village", left-wingers demonizing classical political elements and the status quo, the Jungian Emasculation that is now a cancer on the left, and the come-uppance on its way for the left's stifling guilt/shame regime against anyone who wants to also care about issues related to the center.

Being angry is a natural human emotion that everyone experiences at some point in their lives. However, society often demonizes anger, labeling it as negative and destructive. This perception needs to change. Anger can be a powerful motivator for change and help individuals set boundaries and stand up for themselves. It is important to recognize that anger, when expressed constructively, can lead to positive outcomes. Instead of suppressing or avoiding anger, we should embrace it as a normal part of the human experience and learn how to channel it effectively for personal growth and societal progress.Follow me on IG: Instagram (@angelydub) Follow Life in Progress on IG: Instagram (@lifeinprogressph) Follow me on Tiktok: Angely Dub's Creator Profile Hosted on Acast. The Dichotomy of Leadership: Embracing Complexity for Authentic Impact As leaders, we are frequently taught to be decisive and project certainty. But the world, and the people we lead, are rarely black and white. Truly impactful leadership demands embracing the contradictory, the complex, and finding power in the uncomfortable "grey spaces." Teal Swan's thought-provoking exploration of dichotomy offers a powerful lens to re-examine how we lead, and how we see ourselves. The Discomfort of "And" Our brains crave simplicity. We want easy answers, neat narratives. Witnessing good and bad traits coexisting in a person – whether it's someone we manage, a public figure, or even ourselves – creates a cognitive dissonance most of us struggle to tolerate. This leads to: Demonizing or Glorifying: Biased narratives and all-or-nothing thinking warp our understanding of those we lead, undermining balanced judgment. Splitting: We compartmentalize, seeing team members as "all good" or "all bad" (and ourselves too!). This fuels inconsistent reactions and erodes trust. Lost Opportunities: When we can't tolerate nuance, we may miss out on the growth potential held within challenges and flaws. Expanding Your Leadership Capacity: Becoming the Container Teal Swan coins the term "And Consciousness" – the ability to hold opposing truths simultaneously. For a leader, this is transformative: Beyond Judgment: By holding both good AND bad aspects of a person or situation, we lessen knee-jerk reactions and make more informed choices. Seeing the Whole: This broader perspective helps us see potential blind spots in individuals and ourselves, fostering better long-term strategies. Nurturing Growth: Understanding complexity allows space for people (including ourselves) to evolve, without feeling defined by past mistakes. How to Become a Leader Who Holds Dichotomy: Question Your Assumptions: When you find yourself categorizing someone (or yourself) as "always" or "never," pause. Seek out information that challenges your current view. Explore the Root of 'Extremes': If you're stuck seeing someone as perfect or monstrous, ask yourself: how does this belief serve me? Am I avoiding something uncomfortable? Check Your Nervous System: All-or-nothing thinking spikes when we're stressed. Practice calming techniques to access a more objective mindset. Embrace the 'In-Between': Leadership isn't just about having all the answers. Model comfort with "I'm not sure yet," and invite your team to explore the nuance alongside you. The Challenge of Authentic Leadership It's important to note: This isn't about condoning harmful behavior or ignoring red flags. But it IS about becoming a leader who understands that people are messy, teams have rough patches, and even your own best intentions sometimes have unforeseen consequences. Holding dichotomy means embracing the uncomfortable truth that great strengths can co-exist with deep flaws... even within ourselves. That's where transformative leadership begins. Further Exploration: Teal Swan's video "And Consciousness" offers more depth on this concept. It's well documented that reporting abuse to larger systems is a daunting process. The Southern Baptist Convention is the latest organization to have been outed for the ways that it protects perpetrators of violence, especially against women and children, two categories of people whose stories are commonly dismissed in our larger society. We're thrilled to have Sarah Stankorb on our podcast. Sarah Stankorb is the author of the national best-seller Disobedient Women. (For Libsyn only) The award-winning, Ohio-based writer talks about religion, politics, feminism, health, technology, and the public good. In Disobedient Women, she outlines how access to the internet—its networks, freedom of expression, and resources for deeply researching and reporting on powerful church figures—allowed women to begin dismantling the false authority of evangelical communities that had long demanded their submission. In this episode, Sarah talks with us about the emotional and relational processes that empower women to share their stories and hold systems accountable for their actions. We discuss: The concept of impact vs. intent How the church enables abuse Demonizing anger The fallacies of untethered empathy The weight of speaking up Storytelling and journalism Defining bravery The trad-wife trend, and other systems that encourage women to propagate messages of inequity. Does Deion Sanders believe in Deion Sanders? He's certainly not acting like a believer – in himself, the Colorado Buffaloes, or the God he proclaims when he occasionally takes a break from self-promotion. Coach Prime and Colorado's upset of #17 TCU should have been the feel-good story of college football's opening weekend, but then Deion started talking. “Deion's lack of humility and loyalty and out-of-control hypocrisy are annoying. Deion says he's coaching for the kids but mostly talks about himself. ... I've tried my best to support Deion. I can't do it anymore.” Jason and “Fearless” contributor Steve Kim debate Deion's debut, whether this “experiment” will work, and whether Coach Prime and his distractions are good for college football. For additional notes and resources check out Douglas' website. Most of us have heard of the Inquisition, but may be sketchy on the details. Yet this is important stuff - an aspect of history that we definitely don't want repeating itself.DefinitionAccording to the Oxford English Dictionary, the Inquisition is "An ecclesiastical tribunal established by Pope Gregory IX c.1232 for the suppression of heresy. It was active chiefly in northern Italy and southern France, becoming notorious for the use of torture. In 1542 the papal Inquisition was re-established to combat Protestantism, eventually becoming an organ of papal government."Inquisition < Lat. inquirere, to inquire, and inquisitio (noun form). The inquisitor is the one making the inquiry.Ecclesiastical: pertaining to the church (ecclesia).Tribunal: Each session was more or less a session of court. The ecclesiastical authority, after examining the alleged heretic, hand the him (or her) over to the civil authorities, knowing full well what punishment would be inflicted.Heresy: not primarily about false teaching, but about division (Gk. haeresis). A threat to the community at least as much as a threat to doctrinal purity of the church.Combating Protestant teaching, as well as in the suppression of Muslims and Jews (esp. in the 1400s).OriginsIt is theoretically possible that some early Christians took severe measures to ensure doctrinal conformity, yet there is no evidence of this in church history until the early Middle Ages.In 385 AD Priscilla and six of her followers were beheaded at Trèves (France).Yet this event postdates the great apostasy. The church had been sliding into worldliness and biblical error for several generations. The church state was a monstrous hybrid, a creature that ought not to have existed. Before 1100 AD, local clergy maintained doctrinal discipline. At times erring members were imprisoned (without torture). Execution was rare.France and ItalyIt is arguable that the First Inquisition at Languedoc, in Southern France, in 1184, although the Inquisition had not been established as a permanent institution until the 1230s, under Pope Gregory IX. Life in prison was offered to those who recanted, execution for those who did not.The Inquisition was strong not only in France, but also in Northern Italy. Inquisitors were typically drawn from the order of Dominican monks, although Franciscans also served. These men were natural choice, given their grasp of church doctrine. (It could also have been unwise to have the parish priest put the members of his own church on the rack!)Spain, Portugal, and the New WorldMany have heard of the Spanish Inquisition, "An ecclesiastical court established in Roman Catholic Spain in 1478 and directed originally against converts from Judaism and Islam but later also against Protestants. It operated with great severity until suppressed in the early 19th century." (OED)Isabella and Ferdinand are better known for their interactions with Christopher Columbus, beginning in 1492, as well as for their expulsion of the Jews from Spain (also in 1492) along with resumption of the Reconquista (Reconquest), the effort to reclaim land and loyalty from the Muslims, dwelling in Spain since the 8th century. Many Jews and some Muslims pretended to be Christian, in order not to be captured. The last execution of the Spanish Inquisition took place in 1826, of a schoolteacher who was a deist (one who denies the God of the Bible, miracles, the incarnation, etc -- more or less than worldview of many of the founding fathers of the fledgling American republic. The Inquisition was established in Portugal in 1536. From there is reached Goa (southwest India) in 1560. The Spanish Inquisition was taken to the New World, especially notorious in Peru and Mexico.Galileo GalileiGalileo ran afoul of the Inquisition in 1633. It is not true that he was executed for promoting his idea that the earth orbited the sun, although he was censured (and censored) and placed under house arrest. Many intellectuals -- all intellectuals were Catholic in Italy and other European countries, so this was hardly a case of the Church vs. Science! -- probably agreed with Galileo, yet preferred the public not be informed of the latest scientific discoveries. They feared that a crisis of confidence might be triggered, particularly as the ignorant were unable to understand the science or theology. The church, in other words, was protecting the power structure.Persecution of WitchesPope John II opened the Vatican archives to external historians, which resulted in the confirmation of a number of executions of witches during the Inquisition. Perhaps the totals are higher, but the official count is 59 witches killed in Spain, 36 in Italy, and 4 in Portugal -- 99 all together. (Protestants killed a small number of witches, perhaps fewer than 40, in the America during the colonial period.)Torture and ExecutionAlthough mutilation was technically forbidden, in 1256 Pope Alexander V created a loophole for the inquisitor. There were many methods of torture:Forcing liquids (sometimes scalding) down the throatThe rackThumbscrewsMetal pincers (red hot)StrappadoBurningAs for execution, heretics were often burned at the stake. In the past I had heard that 100,000s had been executed -- and unfortunately repeated this figure -- yet the true total appears to be in the 1000s. (An exaggeration by opponents of the Catholic Church?) To see what the Bible says about execution, listen to my podcast on Capital Punishment (website membership and login required). The Inquisition in the 21st centuryThe Inquisition still exists today, though without the torture and death. Its current name (since 1542) is the "Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith."Lessons for todayUniformity must not be mistaken for unity.Church and state were separate in the early Christian period, and that separation was (and is) for the good of all. Jesus specifically forbade us to lead by authority and power as worldly leaders do: no lording it over others!Where there is a high degree of social solidarity (tribal regions, chiefdoms, traditional societies), leaders will need to wrestle with these issues. Don't just surrender; history need not be repeated. Foster a spirit of tolerance and respect. We ought to represent others fairly -- individuals as well as groups. Demonizing of Jews, Muslims and heterodox Christians still takes place, both without and within the church.Let's take teaching ministry seriously, but leave final judgment to God. Let's strive for an atmosphere of openness, welcoming questions and dialogue. Conclusion It is easy to condemn the Catholic Church for its extreme measures. While shock is merited, we in the modern age are likely to underestimate the seriousness (and fear) with which dissent was viewed by secular and ecclesiastical leaders, from the Middle Ages until relatively modern times.Since dissent constituted sedition, heresy was taken with the utmost seriousness. This was not an age of freedom of speech or equity in law, but an age of social solidarity.Inquisitorial measures were adopted not so much for the good of the heretic as for the good of society, by instilling fear in order to maintain conformity.Such practices are forbidden to followers of Christ.

MagaMama with Kimberly Ann Johnson: Sex, Birth and Motherhood
In this episode, Kimberly and Sophie explore the nuances of being public entrepreneurs and authors. They wonder aloud together about the various roles of knowledge, expertise, and experience and discuss issues such as psychedelics for women, the complexities of social media, the need for eldership, disability and sickness as an altered state, as well as healing practices outside of a hyper-fixated and individualistic framework. The common threads connecting their questions center around identities as facilitators and writers, the need for connection to community and lineages, and managing the challenges of social media and identity politics in a hyper-individualistic culture. Ultimately, they land on the beauty that comes from maturation, wisdom, and growth over time that cannot be done by a quick-fix nor in isolation. Bio Sophie Strand is a writer based in the Hudson Valley who focuses on the intersection of spirituality, storytelling, and ecology. Her first book of essays “The Flowering Wand: Lunar Kings, Lichenized Lovers, Transpecies Magicians, and Rhizomatic Harpists Heal the Masculine” was published last year in 2022 from Inner Traditions.
