    Ivy Insights

If you're looking for a history podcast with a libertarian twist, The Statist Quo is the perfect choice. Hosted by Matt and Nick, this podcast offers in-depth history lessons along with insightful analysis of current events. The episodes on Ireland, Iran, Weimar, and Gun Control are particularly appreciated for their complex thinking and commitment to the libertarian philosophy. The episode on joining the military was also important as it resonated with listeners who have loved ones in the armed forces. While the podcast is moving towards more history episodes, it is hoped that there will be future episodes focusing on young people and their role as leaders in shaping the future.

One of the best aspects of The Statist Quo is its ability to convey extensive information in an easy-to-follow and enjoyable format. Listeners praise the Irish history episodes for their fantastic content delivery, as Matt effortlessly unravels historical events while keeping it engaging. Additionally, the American civil religion episode stands out for its great insights and well-researched approach to contemporary and historical topics. The podcast's dedication to detailed research also shines through, ensuring that listeners get a comprehensive understanding of various issues rather than just one side of history.

On the downside, some listeners find Matt's focus on "rights" and "constitution" repetitive or excessive. They feel that his viewpoints can dominate the discussion and wish there was more balance between his input and that of co-host Nick. However, those who enjoy Matt's perspectives appreciate his commitment to a libertarian philosophy and believe he brings a unique insight to each episode.

In conclusion, The Statist Quo is undoubtedly one of the best history podcasts available today. With its great content, detailed research, and libertarian take on current events, it stands out among other libertarian podcasts. It caters not only to fans of liberty-minded ideas but also educates young Americans about important issues they need to know about. While some may find certain aspects repetitive, overall, The Statist Quo is a valuable and informative podcast that should be on every history and liberty enthusiast's playlist.

    73 – Shays' Rebellion

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 27, 2023 139:40

The early American republic is not discussed much in American history, at least not in high school. You might get some of that time period in a college history class, but it doesn't seem to be a big topic in popular history. Why is that? Maybe because it's easy to see how the Founding Generation didn't live up to their high-minded ideals and pretty rhetoric. Or maybe it's because early United States history is fraught with rebellions, tax revolts, uprisings and the like.Either way, it's a very fascinating period and some of the events then played a major role in shaping the country that would grow to be the biggest empire the world has ever seen, that went from the smallest government on the planet to the biggest government in human history. Shays' Rebellion is one of those events that provoked a reaction and enabled the machinations of characters like Alexander Hamilton. It even helped push George Washington out of retirement, and played a part in the push for a stronger central government. It's also a great story in and of itself, teaching us a lot about the people that founded this country, known and unknown, and it also teaches us a lot about America's true relationship with the men that fight its wars. However, to understand Shays' Rebellion, you can't just look at the events starting in June of 1786; instead you have to understand the economic situation at the time, and also the roots of the Continental Army and the direction it pushed the American Revolution in. Join us as Matt tells the story of the Massachusetts Regulators, who go down in history as the Shaysites. Thanks for listening…we truly appreciate your support and the time you share with us!! Today on TSQ, Matt talks about a very powerful force in American life:  The American Civil Religion.  This is not a new concept, but it is one that isn't discussed as much as it used to be.  A  civil religion is a phenomenon whereby the nominally secular state takes on things normally associated with organized religion, such as dogmas, holy sites or shrines, sermons, incantations and prayers.  It's creepy as all get out, and should offend us all, whether we are religious or not.Robert Bellah's Articlehttp://www.robertbellah.com/articles_5.htmTragedy of US Foreign Policy Bookhttps://www.fpri.org/books/tragedy-us-foreign-policy-americas-civil-religion-betrayed-national-interest/#:~:text=the%20National%20Interest-,The%20Tragedy%20of%20U.S.%20Foreign%20Policy%3A%20How%20America's,Religion%20Betrayed%20the%20National%20Interest&text=Pulitzer%20Prize%E2%80%93winning%20historian%20Walter,foreign%20policy%20ever%20since%201776 This is a public episode.      On this episode, we are talking about a subject Matt has wanted to cover since the day we started this podcast.  The assault on the USS Liberty and the subsequent cover-up by the Lyndon B. Johnson administration.  It was attacked by the Israeli Air Force and Israeli Navy while off the coast of the Gaza Strip, monitoring radio traffic from the Egyptian military.  A total of 34 personnel were killed and 170 were injured.  Heroic damage control efforts by the crew stopped the Liberty from sinking.  It is the most decorated Navy ship for a single action in US history, yet her story is largely untold and unknown.  The Pentagon brass swept the whole incident under the rug; they forced the crew to keep their mouths shut about their ordeal, under threat of court-martial.This is our humble attempt to do their story justice, and also to use it as an object lesson in how America treats those who fight its wars.Matt rants on history and statues for a few minutes in the beginning, and then we share the story of the day that Israel attacked the United States.Best full write-up of the Liberty attack.  Timelinehttps://www.chicagotribune.com/chi-liberty_tuesoct02-story.htmlIncriminating quotes from Menachem Begin, former Israeli PMhttps://www.wrmea.org/1994-july-august/begin-s-admission-in-1982-that-israel-started-three-of-its-wars.htmlOfficial Liberty Survivors' website, lots of resourceshttp://www.gtr5.com/  Write-up of 2007 NSA release of audio transcriptshttps://www.mintpressnews.com/evidence-proves-israel-attack-uss-liberty-orders-kill-americans/198757/FacebookTwitter This is a public episode. We all have boomercon relatives or progressive friends who are annoyingly political but sometimes we feel compelled to agree with them given some set of circumstances. This is called political relativism. Its pretty basic concept but often enough, especially in times of highly contested opinion, its easy for libertarians to fall into one camp or another. As long as we strive to adhere to the direction of objective morality, and not moral relativism, then our secondary politics can shift from time to time to conform to the objective pursuit of the abstinence of immorality.  Nick, the producer, attempts to explain this philosophy in a way that even he might understand. Naomi's book portrays life on Indian Reservations in modern day America, and how poor the living situations of the residents have become, due to their complete dependence on the US federal government.Naomi's work comes highly recommended. This book is truly a real time example of how socialism and dependence on the state, destroys economies, cultures, and individuality, only we need not look to communist dictatorships of yesteryear, or third world developing countries across the world, but we can look right in our own backyard, in the middle of our country.Check Out More of Naomi's Work HERE!This book is totally worth the read. Matt brings on friend of the show Pat Watson from Uncensored Tactical to discuss the biggest problem plaguing Americans today.  It's not thieving, corrupt government.  It's not bloodsucking corporations.  It's not the police state, or tech censorship, nor is it the Fed.  These are all HUGE problems, to be sure, but they all stem from one thing.  A failure of leadership, on the personal level. What is personal leadership?  It's taking personal responsibility for your own life, and instead of asking "Why won't somebody fix X" or "It's X person's fault", the self-leader asks "What can I do to overcome this problem?"This country was intended to be ran by people who were leaders in their own lives.  "Self-government", as the founders envisioned, requires self-leadership. We, the individual people, were supposed to be the sentinels of our liberties.  However, Americans have abdicated that responsibility, and instead have decided to follow false leaders, like politicians and celebrities.  Matt and Pat discuss some of the ways that has manifested itself, like in parenting and college debt.  Matt also talks some about his personal story, which is both a story of colossal failure of personal leadership and a story of an individual deciding once again to be a leader in his own life. Thanks for listening!Pat's website:  www.uncensoredtactical.comDiscussed on the show:  Divorce Corp documentary https://www.divorcecorp.com/WebsiteFacebookTwitterPatreon

This episode is a continuation of our discussion of the history of gun control in the United States.  Part 4 covers the Gun Control Act of 1968 from a different angle than Part 3, and we also talk about the societal and cultural climate of the 1960s and 70s, to see if we can tease out factors that caused people to demand gun control (if what the mainstream says is correct).  We also talk about the Cincinnati Revolt in 1977, marking the NRA's transformation into a pro-gun rights lobby.  We also go over some state gun control efforts, federal bills to ban handguns, the fact and fiction of Saturday Night Specials, and the rise of anti-gun lobbying groups like the Coalition to Ban Handguns (it's still around) and Handgun Control Inc, which would eventually morph into the Brady Campaign.Enjoy! The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence - Imagine A Future Free From Gun Violence (formerly Coalition to Ban Handguns)Guns Prevent Thousands of Crimes Every Day, Research Shows | Lawrence W. Timelinehttps://www.chicagotribune.com/chi-liberty_tuesoct02-story.htmlIncriminating quotes from Menachem Begin, former Israeli PMhttps://www.wrmea.org/1994-july-august/begin-s-admission-in-1982-that-israel-started-three-of-its-wars.htmlOfficial Liberty Survivors' website, lots of resourceshttp://www.gtr5.com/  Write-up of 2007 NSA release of audio transcriptshttps://www.mintpressnews.com/evidence-proves-israel-attack-uss-liberty-orders-kill-americans/198757/FacebookTwitterPatreon

This past Monday, May 4th, 2020 marked the 50th year since the Kent State shooting on the campus of Kent State University, in Kent, Ohio.  This story is somewhat familiar to most Americans, but there's much more than most people realize.  It's a story of the tragedy that America is still experiencing today.  The politicization of every aspect of life.  Politics is poison...it makes people hate each other that wouldn't otherwise.  The shooting of 13 students that day is the result of a country deeply divided by an unpopular, needless war of choice and a governor trying to win a primary election, wanting to look "tough" to voters.  "Law and Order" and all that.Matt and Nick talk about the historical context, the events leading up to that day, and some other lesser known aspects of the event, including some insight as to what prompted the guardsmen to open fire on a crowd of unarmed students.  Matt tries to stay on task, but he does go down some rabbit holes about the M-16, Cambodia and Vietnam.  You've been warned. Thanks for listening! Vaccines are always a controversial issue. We can see how much power the corporate press still has by the emotionalism people have in certain subjects they play up, like mass shootings or vaccines.  They want to pigeonhole everyone into "anti-vaxxers" or "pro-vaxxers".  But what if you have questions, or a nuanced opinion on each vaccine?  Well, you will most surely be demonized as a heretic by the mainstream. Here, instead, we go through the state's own documentation and the excellent reporting of people who do the same to find out what the real facts of vaccination are.  We start by observing the April 12, 55th anniversary of the Polio vaccine trials, and give a brief overview of the history of poliomyelitis, the vaccine, and ask some questions about what really eradicated polio.  We then bring that topic current with the after-effects of pulse (mass) vaccination in India to eradicate polio, and the non-profit and NGOs that contributed vast sums of money to that project and other immunization projects around the world, such as GAVI, the Gates- and Rockefeller-connected Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.  We look at some of their activities, and dive into the world of eugenics, population control, environmentalism and their connections to GAVI and the WHO.Due to character limit, show notes were shortened. In our next installment on the history of American gun control, we humbly present to you a unique take on the Gun Control Act of 1968, the law that established everybody's favorite government overreach, the Federal Firearms Licensee system! Many people on both sides of the debate invoke Hitler, just like any other issue. The pro-gunners often comment on the Nazis disarmament schemes, and they're partially correct. But the legacy of Nazi gun-grabbing lives on in United States Code today, in the Gun Control Act of 1968.  It's not well known that there's a striking similarity in the text of that law, the Weimar Germany gun laws of the 1920s and the 1938 Nazi firearms law passed by Hitler's Reichstag. And to top it all off, the GCA's principal sponsor, Sen. Thomas Dodd, owned a German copy of the Nazi law and had the Library of Congress translate it in 1968, while drafting his own version that became the GCA!!We go over this disturbing fact and the political context that spawned the crises of the 1960s that the Feds exploited to carve out more red tape for your privileges....ahem, I mean rights. Enjoy!Link:The Harcourt Article we referencehttps://scholarship.law.columbia.edu/faculty_scholarship/1327/http://jpfo.org/filegen-a-m/gateway.htmFacebookTwitter
