The iPhone 18 Pro lineup, Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, and AirPods 5 arrived in stores September 18, while the new Mac mini and Mac Studio became available September 22. Meanwhile, Apple has moved quickly into the 27.2 developer beta cycle. The second betas arrived September 21, with notable work underway on the Health app and Siri AI language expansion. Vision Pro and Mac beta coverage is separated into their respective sections below. Beyond hardware and betas, Apple Podcasts is preparing to bring video into paid subscriptions, Apple Sports has expanded its league support, and Apple's next generation of Siri appears poised to play a much larger role in the home. Topics and Links In Touch With Vision Pro this week.  Apple released visionOS 27.2 beta 2 to developers as part of this week's second round of 27.2 testing. Apple's official release notes identify a known Quick Look issue in which 3D objects opened from Safari can unexpectedly reposition when the user moves them. StoreKit testing fixes and known issues are also documented. visionOS 27.2 Beta Release Notes | Apple Developer Documentation John Ternus just gave the best defense yet for Vision Pro - 9to5Mac Beta this week.  Apple released the second developer betas of iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on September 21. The testing cycle includes Apple's redesigned Health app with new Insights and Longevity areas, while Siri AI is expanding into additional languages. (MacRumors) Apple Releases First Public Betas of iOS 27.2 and macOS Golden Gate 27.2 - MacRumors The Health app is especially interesting because its presence in beta does not necessarily mean the completely redesigned experience will ship with the public 27.2 release. Reporting this week indicates Apple may be testing portions ahead of a broader launch later in the year. (9to5Mac) Fitness Pro in trouble? Apple-fitness-team-hit-by-layoffs-as-major-changes-reportedly-loom (Jill) OS 27.2 testing also expands Dual Capture in FaceTime to Group FaceTime, allowing front- and rear-camera views simultaneously during group calls. (9to5Mac) Discussion: Is Apple turning Health into one of the most important apps on the iPhone? Would you use Dual Capture during a FaceTime group call? Does putting major features into beta before their intended release make the beta cycle more interesting or more confusing? iOS 27.0.1 is Coming Soon - MacRumors Apple also released second developer betas of watchOS 27.2 and tvOS 27.2. The Health changes are particularly relevant to Apple Watch because the redesigned Health experience ties into health information collected by Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. Apple provides dedicated watchOS 27.2 beta release notes. (MacRumors) Apple Developer — watchOS 27.2 Beta Release Notes Outside the beta program, Apple released watchOS 27.0.1 for Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The update addresses a restart issue and is limited to those newest models. (MacRumors) Owners of Series 12 or Ultra 4 should check Software Update rather than assuming the software installed at launch is already current. In Touch With Mac this week Apple released macOS Golden Gate 27.2 beta 2 to developers. The update continues expansion of Siri AI into additional languages and introduces some smaller interface refinements, including revised keyboard-triggered volume and brightness indicators. (MacRumors) Apple's official release notes identify several beta issues. A clean installation may fail to request notification permission for apps including Calendar, Maps, Find My, Home, and Weather. Apple recommends manually enabling affected notifications in System Settings. "Describe a Shortcut" can also fail, and Xcode may crash when using code completion. (Apple Developer) A potentially important post-upgrade issue for Mac users is the amount of local storage being consumed by Apple Intelligence models. MacRumors reports that some Macs running macOS 27 are showing more than 30GB devoted to Apple Intelligence-related data. (MacRumors) The new Mac mini and Mac Studio officially reached customers and Apple Stores on September 22. Mac mini is available with M6 or M5 Pro. Apple says the M6 model starts at $899 in the U.S., while M5 Pro configurations start at $1,699. Mac Studio is available with M5 Max starting at $2,499 or M5 Ultra starting at $5,499. Apple says the 512GB unified-memory Mac Studio configuration will arrive in late October. (Apple) The M5 Ultra Mac Studio can be configured with up to a 36-core CPU, 80-core GPU, and 512GB of unified memory. The latest Studio also adds Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thunderbolt 5. (Apple) Other Topics We have plenty of new Apple hardware in the hands of the panel this week, so it's time for some real-world impressions. Dave has the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 12. Jeff has the iPhone 18 Pro. Marty has the Mac mini with M5 Pro and Mac Studio with M5 Ultra. Marty gives us his impressions of both the M5 Pro Mac mini and M5 Max Mac Studio. We compare the two Macs, discuss performance and connectivity, and look at what kind of user each machine makes the most sense for. Guy has an Apple Watch 12 We give our first-hand thoughts after actually using the new hardware. Dave and Jeff compare the iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone 18 Pro, including size, everyday usability, performance, cameras, battery life, and whether the changes feel significant coming from their previous iPhones. Dave also gives his impressions of the Apple Watch Series 12—what stands out after wearing it, the new features he is actually using, battery life and performance, and how meaningful an upgrade it feels compared with his previous Apple Watch. Does Marty agree? The Glacier iPhone 18 Pro Max is the anti-Cosmic Orange | Macworld Code discoveries reported this week suggest HomePod Software 27 contains components associated with Siri AI, along with possible new visual behavior for Siri. This is not confirmation that existing HomePods will receive Siri AI. Current reporting suggests new HomePod hardware may be required. Apple has also been rumored to be preparing updated HomePod mini, Apple TV, and dedicated smart-home hardware. He also handled the event's signature iPhone Duo reveal, giving the new CEO the biggest product moment of the show. John Ternus Introduces Apple's "Intelligent Personal Hub" — In his first Apple Event as CEO, John Ternus laid out Apple's vision for AI, positioning the iPhone as the "intelligent personal hub" at the center of a user's digital life. Rather than requiring a new category of AI hardware, Ternus argued that the iPhone already has everything an ideal AI device needs: powerful on-device processing, cameras and microphones, connectivity, all-day battery life, personal context, and deep integration with Apple's ecosystem. An unpublished Dune Encyclopedia manuscript called Psychology of the Fremen never made it past Willis E. McNelly's editing desk, until now. Abu and Leo dig into what got cut, in part one of a two-episode dive into the Fullerton archives' unreleased psychology entries. Carl B. Yoke, a Kent State University professor, wrote it as one of five planned psychology profiles that also covered the Bene Gesserit, the Sardaukar, the Harkonnens, and the Imperium. Yoke's Fremen entry builds its case through an invented smuggler-poet, whose writings and observations of Fremen psychology survived in the Bene Gesserit archives on Wallach IX. From there, Abu and Leo trace a psychological system mapped almost entirely onto Carl Jung. This episode contains NO SPOILERS for the Dune novels. Welcome to another episode of the Hangin' with the AD Podcast, today we welcome Randale Richmond, Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Kent State University. Randale's journey in athletic administration has come full circle. He spent 10 years at Kent State working in compliance, academics, and student-athlete services before moving to Old Dominion University, where he continued to expand his leadership responsibilities. In 2021, he returned to Kent State as the university's 12th Director of Athletics and was elevated to Vice President in 2023. At the center of Randale's leadership philosophy is a commitment to developing people. He has described his purpose as being a transformational leader who positively impacts the lives of others, while building an athletic department that is student-athlete centered, coach led, and administrator supported. In today's conversation, we talk about his journey to the AD chair, developing culture, leading people through change and uncertainty, preparing student-athletes for life beyond competition, and what leadership looks like in today's rapidly evolving world of college athletics. There is plenty here for athletic administrators at every level to take back to their own programs. So settle in as we talk leadership, athletics, and the responsibility that comes with sitting in the AD chair with Kent State Vice President and Director of Athletics, Randale Richmond.

From Columbus to New York City, from the moon to Mars and back again, this episode covers some ground. Our guests are Paul Fatkins and Nick Karakaian, principals of Arcfluence, an architecture firm based in Columbus, Ohio, and hosts of the Arcfluence podcast. You may have heard Dave and Steve on their show on July 26. This time, we swapped guest spots and get to take a deep dive into their world. This is the Deliberate Words podcast with David Stutzman and Steve Gantner, leaders at Conspectus, the specifications company, where we believe words have power. The right words can create trust and transparency, transform the design and construction process, and significantly impact the success of a project and its team.Paul and Nick have been friends since studying architecture at Kent State University. After graduation, their careers took them in different directions, from Chicago and New York City to construction, high-rise design and real estate investing, before eventually bringing them back together to launch Arcfluence in Columbus. We talk about why they chose Columbus, how design can influence communities, the value of thinking like both an architect and an investor, and why better decisions often start with better conversations. We also get into the realities behind HGTV renovation shows, Nick's appearance on Beach Flip, their shared love of Star Trek, and one very important question:When architecture reaches the final frontier, which one of them is actually willing to leave Earth?

The latest In Touch With iOS with Dave he is joined by Jill McKinley, Jeff Gamet, Eric Bolden, Marty Jencius, Guy Serle. This week on In Touch With iOS, we cover Apple's latest updates across Vision Pro, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV. The panel talks about live Friday Night Baseball coming to Apple Immersive Video, visionOS 27 Beta 5, and the latest iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS beta changes, including Siri improvements, bug fixes, and security updates. We also debate whether Apple's built-in Mac apps are now good enough to replace third-party favorites like Fantastical and 1Password, and we compare backup strategies using Time Machine, Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, Synology, external drives, and Backblaze. Plus, Jeff raises concerns about Anthropic's Claude watermarking approach and the risk of false positives for human-written content, and we look at Apple's expanded Made for iPhone hearing-device support and its accessibility benefits. The episode kicks off with Vision Pro and Apple's return to live sports in Apple Immersive Video. Friday Night Baseball is coming to Vision Pro with select MLB games presented live, giving the panel plenty to discuss about whether immersive sports could become one of the strongest reasons to own Apple's headset. The conversation also explores what Apple could do to make the experience even more compelling, from stadium atmosphere and audio to better ways of making viewers feel like they're actually at the game. Beta This Week brings updates across visionOS 27, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and macOS 27. The panel discusses visionOS 27 Beta 5 improvements to Siri, Mac Virtual Display, hand gestures, and Digital Crown behavior, along with the usual collection of fixes and refinements arriving across Apple's platforms. Siri is also getting additional voice options and greater control over characteristics such as speaking pace and expressivity. On the Mac, the conversation turns into a debate about Apple's built-in applications. Are Calendar, Notes, Reminders, Passwords, Safari, and Apple's other bundled apps finally good enough that Mac users no longer need as many third-party replacements? The panel compares their own workflows and discusses why some of them have started moving back toward Apple's applications after years of using alternatives. Apple Passwords versus 1Password becomes an especially interesting debate: Apple offers excellent integration and simplicity, while 1Password continues to provide more advanced capabilities for users who need them. Then the panel tackles something every Mac user should be thinking about: backups. Time Machine is only the beginning. Everyone compares their own strategies involving Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, Synology NAS systems, external SSDs and hard drives, cloud storage, and Backblaze. The discussion highlights the importance of having multiple copies of important data, including at least one off-site copy. Jill also brings up a practical disaster-preparedness strategy: keeping important backups on portable drives that can quickly be grabbed during an emergency. Jeff brings AI into the conversation from his blog with concerns about Anthropic's approach to watermarking content that has been generated or even edited using Claude. If someone writes an article, paper, or other document themselves but asks Claude to proofread or rewrite a small portion, could the entire work subsequently be treated as AI-generated? The panel discusses the potential for false positives and the problems this could create for writers, students, educators, and anyone who uses AI as an editing assistant rather than an author. Accessibility is also in the spotlight as Apple expands its Made for iPhone hearing-device compatibility list with dozens of additional devices. The discussion goes beyond the numbers, with the panel sharing real-world examples of how Apple's hearing accessibility technology—including compatible hearing aids and AirPods—can make conversations and noisy environments dramatically easier to navigate. Finally, Things We Found brings the usual collection of useful, interesting, and sometimes unexpected discoveries from the panel, including Synology storage, an Apple Watch band, an ALPR camera mapping resource, an extremely bright USB-C rechargeable flashlight, Batman viewing recommendations, and an animated wallpaper app. Topics and Links In Touch With Vision Pro this week Apple bringing live Friday Night Baseball to Apple Immersive Video — selected MLB games will stream live in immersive 8K 3D on Vision Pro. https://9to5mac.com/2026/08/10/apple-immersive-live-video-mlb-game-schedule/ visionOS 27 Beta 5 released. https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/apple-vision-pro/ https://developer.apple.com/documentation/visionos-release-notes/visionos-27-release-notes visionOS 27 beta users report hand-control and Digital Crown issues. A flat white earned Dr. Rhonda Evans an immediate nod of approval from Nicola before becoming the perfect springboard for a conversation about Australia, curiosity, and the unexpected opportunities that can shape an entire career.Rhonda didn't get her first passport until she was 28 years old. She had no idea that one long flight to Australia would change the course of her life. In this episode of Counsel Brew, she reflects on how growing up as a first-generation college student in rural Ohio eventually led her halfway around the world, proving that some of life's biggest opportunities begin with simply saying yes.Rhonda also reflects on starting her career as a lawyer before realizing her true calling was in higher education. She shares stories about teaching at The University of Texas, creating a study abroad program centered on the Great Barrier Reef, and helping students build confidence by stepping outside their comfort zones. Woven throughout the conversation are thoughtful reflections on curiosity, lifelong learning, and why the best career advice doesn't always involve having a plan. Sometimes it's simply being willing to follow where your interests lead. From Australian coffee culture and long-haul flights to an unforgettable "stupid shit" story about her time as a prosecutor handling paternity investigations, the conversation moves effortlessly between the lighthearted and the unexpected. What begins as a humorous look back at one of the more unusual chapters of Rhonda's early legal career ultimately reveals a pivotal turning point, helping her realize that while she appreciated the law, her true passion is political science, higher education, and helping students discover where their own curiosity might lead.In This EpisodeGrowing up as a first-generation college student in rural OhioHow one opportunity to study in Australia changed the course of her careerWhy she left the practice of law to pursue teaching and researchCreating a study abroad program focused on the Great Barrier ReefHelping students build confidence through international experiencesWhat makes Australia so fascinating, from its politics and conservation efforts to its unique cultureHow curiosity became the compass for an unexpected careerFlat whites!!About Dr. Rhonda EvansDr. Rhonda Evans is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Government at The University of Texas at Austin and Director of the Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Studies Initiative. AI, Cybersecurity, and Public Policy: Export Controls, Arms Races, and the "New Radium" On Cyber Security Today (Weekend), the host interviews Pratim Datta, a Kent State University professor and former global consultant, about the past six months of AI and public policy as it intersects with cybersecurity. They discuss Anthropic's "Mythos" and "Fable," the marketing-versus-risk debate around autonomous hacking tools, and how the sheer volume of vulnerable code creates a "digitally polluted" environment. The conversation covers whether AI is a consumer product or a weapon, the implications of U.S. export controls (including restrictions affecting foreign nationals), and how model pullbacks may have shaken allies' trust in American tech. They also examine comparisons to radium and nuclear-era unknowns, the OpenAI–Hugging Face incident, the "cathedral vs. bazaar" tension of closed vs. open models, and the broader U.S.–China economic and national security struggle. 00:00 Weekend Show Kickoff 01:15 Meet Prat Dadam 01:59 Policy Whiplash in AI 02:55 Mythos Hype and Fear 06:27 Digital Pollution Problem 07:53 AI Arms Race Begins 09:18 Export Controls Shockwave 14:31 Weapon or Consumer Tech 16:57 New Radium Analogy 21:57 Economics and Trade Wars 23:49 Cathedral Versus Bazaar 25:44 Censorship and Control 27:16 Jurassic Park Chaos 30:27 Hotel California Reality 32:36 Closing Thoughts and Thanks

Employee Ownership Models There are over 6500 businesses that in some form participate in an employee-owned model, according to a study from Rutgers University. These businesses vary from an ESOP, or employee stock ownership plan, which is the most common form or profit-sharing, to a worker-owned cooperative, where workers can vote on things like a board of directors. Thursday on the "Sound of Ideas," we'll take a deeper look at the employee ownership model, and find out why some aging business owners are embracing that model. We'll hear from one Northeast Ohio business that recently transitioned to an employee trust model with the help of the Ohio Employee Ownership Center at Kent State University. Guests:- Michael Palmieri, Associate Director, Ohio Employee Ownership Center, Kent State University- Jonathan Welle, Lead Organizer & Founding Board Member, Cleveland Owns- Mike Miller, Founder and Managing Partner, Music Box Supper Club- Hannah Scott, Program Director, The Ohio State University - College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, Center for Cooperatives "The Menu: Employee Ownership and Food" Later in the program, we'll stay with the employee ownership discussion, and look at one local coffee roaster, Phoenix, who is a employee-owned cooperative. They have five cafes, and a roastery, across Northeast Ohio. We'll hear from the General Manager about why he says that model serves the business. Seasonal Affective Disorder When you hear seasonal affective disorder, you probably think of the cold, dark days of winter. But for some people, seasonal depression arrives at the opposite time of year. As temperatures rise and daylight stretches into the evening, sadness, anxiety and irritability can emerge. Wednesday on the “Sound of Ideas,” we'll discuss how heat, light and seasonal changes can affect our mental health. Guest:- Alicia Roth, Ph.D., Behavioral Sleep Medicine Psychologist, Cleveland Clinic Understanding claims about antidepressants Later, we'll speak with mental health experts about antidepressants. A recent Gallup poll found 18% of adults reported having depression last year. And depression rates for Americans under 30 and lower income adults have risen dramatically over the last eight years. Antidepressant medications have been shown to help ease depressive symptoms. One common type of medication, called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs, were used by more than 11% of adults in 2023, according to CDC data. And adults in the Midwest take antidepressants more than any other region in the nation. U.S. Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. has been outwardly skeptical about the use of SSRIs, and last month, announced a plan to address the "overuse of psychiatric medications, especially among children" in favor of what he calls a more holistic approach to mental health. But psychiatrists have warned that some of the claims about the side effects of antidepressants are misinformed, including that there's an increased link to mass violence. And there's concern that this move could limit access to treatment for millions who rely on it. Guests:- Jonathan Sadowsky, Ph.D., Professor, History of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University- Luis Felipe Amunategui, Ph.D., Child-Adolescent Psychologist, University Hospitals- Karin Coifman, Ph.D., Professor, Psychological Sciences, Kent State University

The panel opens the show with plenty of humor before diving into several Vision Pro-focused stories and apps that caught their attention this week. The discussion begins with Apple's recognition of The Primary News in Depth as part of the Apple Design Awards. The app delivers immersive spatial news experiences on Vision Pro and sparks conversation about the future of immersive journalism and the challenges of producing high-quality spatial video content. Marty points out how apps like this can expose users to stories and perspectives from around the world that traditional U.S. news outlets often overlook. The panel also highlights Let's Go Fly, a free Vision Pro immersive aviation app that lets users experience flight in spatial video. Jill shares her enthusiasm for flight simulation experiences and discusses how immersive environments like this could become a major use case for Vision Pro moving forward. Attention then shifts to the future of Vision Pro hardware after new reports suggested Apple may be developing a lighter and more affordable Vision Pro successor for release sometime around 2028. Marty explains the distinction between Vision Pro as a premium immersive entertainment and enterprise device versus future Apple smart glasses aimed at mainstream consumers. Jeff strongly pushes back against ongoing claims that Vision Pro is "on ice," arguing Apple has always treated the product as an evolving platform rather than a mass-market product from day one. Jill compares the current state of Vision Pro to the early days of expensive VHS players and other technology products that eventually became mainstream over time. The team also discusses a newly granted Apple patent describing an Apple Pencil-like XR input device capable of providing haptic feedback and texture simulation in virtual environments. Jeff becomes especially excited about the creative possibilities for artists, sculptors, and even medical professionals using virtual tools with tactile feedback. The group also talks about how Apple's haptics technology continues to separate its ecosystem from competitors. On the software side, the panel reviews the latest Apple beta and minor software updates, including macOS Tahoe 26.5.1 and an iOS update addressing charging issues affecting iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models. Jeff shares a theory that the macOS update may also quietly address kernel panic crashes tied to external spinning hard drives connected to Macs. With WWDC 2026 only days away, the discussion shifts heavily toward predictions and expectations for Apple's annual developer conference. The panel reacts to Apple inviting WWDC attendees to a special screening of The Mandalorian and Grogu at Apple Park, complete with a possible appearance by special guests involved with the film. Dave shares his thoughts after seeing the movie in theaters and praises its action sequences and sound design. The conversation then turns to WWDC predictions, with everyone agreeing that Apple Intelligence and Siri upgrades will likely dominate much of the keynote. Jeff expects Apple to focus on AI integration without going overboard the way other tech companies have recently done. Jill hopes Apple introduces a much more personal and contextual AI assistant capable of understanding the user's device, files, habits, and health data. She also expresses interest in deeper HealthKit integration that could provide meaningful insights into sleep patterns, blood sugar tracking, and wellness habits. Marty predicts Apple will expose new APIs allowing Siri and Apple Intelligence to integrate more deeply into apps and potentially VisionOS itself. HomeKit and smart home functionality become another major topic as the panel discusses rumors surrounding new HomePod mini hardware, a refreshed Apple TV, and a possible smart home-focused "HomePad" device. Jeff floats the idea that Apple could eventually position Apple TV as a more serious gaming console if future hardware includes dramatically improved processors. The show also includes several practical Apple tips, including how to leave FaceTime video voicemail messages, set up text replacements, use the one-handed iPhone keyboard, clear notifications quickly, and set timers that automatically stop music or audio playback. Jeff also highlights how much he relies on Universal Clipboard between Apple devices throughout his day. Later in the episode, the panel discusses Apple's latest App Design Award winners, including apps like Structured, Grug, Is This Seat Taken?, Guitar Whiz, and immersive Vision Pro NBA experiences. Jill shares her enthusiasm for Structured as an ADHD-friendly productivity app, while Marty and Jeff discuss puzzle games, retro-style experiences, and the growing creativity in Apple's developer ecosystem. The episode closes with excitement surrounding Macstock 10 and the upcoming Ecamm Creator Camp event. Dave, Marty, Jeff, and Jill talk about their upcoming presentations, the importance of community networking, and how Macstock continues to bring together Apple fans, creators, podcasters, and developers for one of the most enjoyable Apple community events of the year. The panel also reflects on the upcoming closure of the British Tech Network and the final episodes of several long-running shows. The show kicks off with discussion around Apple's latest beta releases for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, watchOS, and tvOS. While the updates appear mostly focused on bug fixes and stability improvements, the panel speculates Apple may already be quietly laying groundwork for major WWDC announcements behind the scenes. Vision Pro continues to dominate conversation this week with the arrival of the native Steam Link app, giving users a new way to stream PC games directly into Apple's headset. The panel discusses the growing gaming possibilities for Vision Pro, including PS5 remote play support and whether Apple's expensive headset could eventually become a more serious entertainment and gaming platform. Leaked images of black Vision Pro components also spark speculation about possible future hardware revisions or prototype devices Apple may still be testing internally. Security and messaging updates are another major focus this week. The crew discusses Apple's expanded transparency around CVE security reporting, encrypted RCS messaging support in Messages, and how users can verify end-to-end encryption is active. The conversation quickly turns humorous as the group debates Apple's new alerts for users who max out blocked contacts, leading to stories about spam texts, political messages, and the endless battle against robocalls. On the Mac side, the panel covers the M5 MacBook Air reaching one of its lowest prices yet, making it an especially attractive option for Apple users looking to upgrade. Dave also shares excitement about the massive Virtual OS Museum project, which allows users to explore and run classic operating systems from decades past, including older versions of macOS, Windows, Linux, Atari, and more. The discussion then shifts into AI and Apple's future plans. OWC's upcoming Stack AI hardware generates interest as the panel explores how local AI processing and large language models may shape the future of Mac hardware. From there, the conversation moves into new rumors surrounding iOS 27, including reports of a redesigned Siri experience, a standalone chatbot-style Siri app, Dynamic Island integration ideas, and Apple's ongoing effort to compete in the rapidly evolving AI space. The panel debates whether Apple is truly behind competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini, or simply pursuing a more privacy-focused and ecosystem-driven approach. The crew also spends time discussing Apple's redesigned app icons and the growing confusion surrounding Creative Studio apps like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro. Jeff Gamet passionately argues Apple has "completely lost the plot" with icon design, while Marty Jencius defends the idea of evolving aesthetics, leading to one of the funniest debates of the episode. Practical user tips round out the show, including how to customize CarPlay layouts, manage widgets and apps, enable 120Hz ProMotion refresh rates on iPhone, and use Apple Wallet driver's licenses in supported states. The panel shares real-world experiences using digital IDs and Apple Pay, including a hilarious story about a cashier insisting Apple Pay users still needed to "pay with money." Finally, the crew previews Macstock 2026 and Creator Camp, encouraging listeners to join the Apple community event this summer. With discussions covering Vision Pro gaming, Siri rumors, AI strategy, CarPlay, Mac hardware, Apple Wallet, and much more, Episode 425 delivers another packed week of Apple news, insight, and entertaining conversation from the In Touch With iOS team. The Buddha taught a path of awakened living, but how does that manifest in today's world of constant connectivity and widespread suffering? How do we keep our hearts open without being defined or hardened by the pain that surrounds us, whether personal, collective, or historical? How do we navigate the paradox of holding both pain and joy, without mistaking suffering for punishment or personal failure? Can we infuse our compassion with wisdom and perspective to find the agency to take meaningful action in our communities? The panel starts with Apple's 26.5 updates across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and HomePod. The group discusses bug fixes, security improvements, wallpaper updates, and Apple's move to allow longer-term app subscriptions with monthly payment options. The conversation highlights Apple's new end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging support and automatic pairing for Magic accessories on iPad after connecting via USB. The panel also emphasizes the importance of installing the updates because of the large number of security vulnerabilities Apple patched, including WebKit exploits and kernel-related issues. Vision Pro discussion includes reactions to visionOS 26.5, subtle under-the-hood improvements, and excitement around a new spatial air hockey game coming soon to the platform. Marty, Eric, and Dave discuss arcade-style air hockey in immersive spatial computing complete with sound effects and airflow simulation. On the Mac side, Jeff Gamet details a frustrating USB accessory issue introduced after updating to macOS 26.5. Wired accessories including keyboards, Stream Decks, cameras, and USB hubs stopped functioning until security settings were adjusted under Privacy & Security. The discussion expands into Apple's enterprise-focused fixes, SMB networking bugs, black-screen startup issues, and unexpected restarts on newer Macs.   The panel also explores several Mac utilities and productivity tools. Jeff discusses Bartender 6 and Bartender Pro, including new notch-focused "Top Shelf" features that turn the MacBook notch into a Dynamic Island-style productivity area. The group also looks at NextPad++, an AI-assisted Mac port inspired by Notepad++, and debates whether AI-generated software development is moving too fast. BBEdit also gets praise as a long-standing favorite text editor for Mac users. Browser privacy becomes another major topic after reports surfaced that Google Chrome quietly downloaded a hidden 4GB AI-related file to Macs. The panel discusses privacy concerns surrounding Chrome, Google's tracking reputation, and alternatives including Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Helium, a Chromium-based browser Jeff recommends because of its strong privacy protections and plugin compatibility. The conversation then shifts to Apple hardware news with improving MacBook Neo availability and Apple reportedly increasing A18 Pro chip orders to meet overwhelming demand. The panel debates Apple's supply chain strategy and whether Apple underestimated how successful the $599 MacBook Neo would become. Additional stories include a new joint satellite venture between AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile aimed at improving iPhone connectivity in dead zones, Intel reportedly testing fabrication of future Apple chips, and reactions to the Steve Jobs commemorative U.S. dollar coin that sold out in minutes. The panel closes with a fun discussion about Ted Lasso actor Cristo Fernández training with a professional soccer team after playing Danny Rojas on the hit Apple TV+ series. West Side Market updates Cleveland's historic, 114-year-old West Side Market has been undergoing major change in recent years. First, it went through structural change, moving from longtime city management to nonprofit management back in 2024, something that residents and vendors had been calling for for years to improve conditions at the market. Now it's going through a major revitalization, as once the nonprofit team called the Cleveland Public Market Corporation began, it launched a years-long, $70 million transformation project funded in part by the city of Cleveland and City Council, as well as philanthropy and other government sources. But there's still some millions left to raise to complete the vision, and many months left to go until residents see completion of the project. In the meantime, there will be a lot of construction to wade through as you get your groceries and support local vendors. We'll discuss these updates on Tuesday's "Sound of Ideas" and learn what you can expect when you visit the market. Guests: - Rosemary Mudry, Executive Director, Cleveland Public Market Corporation - Don Whitaker, Owner, DW Whitaker Meats & Former President, United West Side Market Tenants Association - Jessy Harb, Co-owner of Harb's Produce What to know about hantavirus More than a dozen American cruise passengers are currently under a 42-day quarantine in Nebraska in a specialized medical facility after spending weeks aboard a ship hit with a deadly hantavirus outbreak that infected at least 11 people, including three who died. Hantavirus is a pathogen that some rodents carry that can sometimes infect humans. The passengers under quarantine are asymptomatic. This incident is harkening memories of another virus that caused a global pandemic six years ago. But health experts say hantavirus is not the same as COVID-19. We'll learn why by talking to a local epidemiologist. Guest: - Tara Smith, Ph.D., Professor of Epidemiology, Kent State University

For the nineteenth installment of “50 Weeks That Shaped America” we talk about a fateful week in the spring of 1970, when the anti-Vietnam movement was confronted by a conservative backlash. We discuss the tragedy at Kent State University in Ohio, when four students were killed by National Guard. In the wake of the tragedy, many were shocked but lots of Americans felt that anti-War protesters had gone too far. Richard Nixon would dub this coalition the "silent majortity," and days later in New York City they would be on the streets themselves.Join our America250 newsletter community! Support Green and Red Podcast and get analysis on U.S. politics, leftist strategy, and anti-establishment resistance at https://www.patreon.com/greenredpodcast.It's the 56th anniversary of the killings at Kent State University. In a special encore episode, we're reposting our episode from 2020.In this episode, we commemorate the anniversary of the tragic events of May 4th, 1970 at Kent State University, where agents of the state murdered 4 students and shot 9 others. Students, who'd been told the war was winding down in Vietnam, erupted in protest at campuses all over America when Richard Nixon announced the U.S. invasion of Cambodia on April 30th. At Kent State, a working-class public school in Northeast Ohio, protesting students and other burned down an ROTC building, a common target in the Vietnam protest era, and Ohio Governor James Rhodes, vowing a violent response, mobilized the National Guard and sent them to Kent. For two days the students and Guard skirmished, with the paramilitaries hurling tear gas and intimidating students. On May 4th, the Guard, unprovoked, started shooting into the crowd of students and shot 13, killing 4, from distances beyond 300 feet. These were extrajudicial killings and a sure sign the state would murder anyone who challenged its interests. The war had come home! Scott and Bob, who's also a historian of the Vietnam War and the 1960s and has published extensively on those subjects, talk about the background to the protests, the official, violent response, the aftermath at places like Jackson State, where 2 more students were killed, and the larger context of anti-state protests and their meaning, and lessons.----------Outro// "Green and Red Blues" by Moody
