Los Angeles, also known by its nickname The City of Angels, is thought by many to be one of the most glamourous places on earth. Home to the rich and famous, the Hollywood walk of fame and several success movie studios, thousands of people flock there with the hopes of making it big. Behind all the glitz and glamour, L.A is also the home of thousands of homeless people and has more than its fair share of violent crime. Today, we will be focusing on the dark side of the City of Angels as we uncover the unsolved murder of Reet Jurvetson. If you have any information regarding Reet's murder, please contact the LAPD Cold Case Homicide Special Section 213-486-6810.Twitter - @Uncover_podInstagram - @uncovertruecrimepodYou can contact me by emailing uncovertruecrime@gmail.comCase Suggestion Form - https://forms.gle/mUDbNYeoTZ5kGfaq7

I'm sure many people listening to this can remember a time before mobile phones or cell phones, depending on what country you are in. It's hard to imagine a world without wireless technology now but back then, It wasn't as easy as sending a text saying "I'll see you in 5". We depended on landline phones and payphones if we needed to talk to people that we couldn't see in person. Today, we will be discussing a young woman who, like many others, pulled over to use a payphone but was tragically abducted and has never been seen since. Let's uncover the unsolved disappearance of Angela Hammond. If you have any information in the abduction of Angela Hammond, please call the Clinton Police Department at 660-885-5561. Trigger warning. This episode discusses the murders and disappearances of children and also mentions child sexual abuse. Listener discretion is advised. Many crime documentaries on TV portray serial killers as some sort of cold-blooded creature who only prey at night, like some kind of wild animal. I think the reason these programmes describe them this way is to try and put as much distance between them and us as possible, to lure us into a false sense of security that we won't ever come into contact with them and that we would know if we ever did see one in person, but this is far from the truth. To the outside world, these people seem to live very normal lives with normal jobs and normal families. They live on regular streets amongst unsuspecting neighbours, never in their wildest dreams imagining that they are in such close proximity to someone capable of the most horrendous crimes. The man we will be talking about today was one of these individuals. He did the unthinkable – sexually abusing and murdering children, yet he went undetected for over a decade and even over 40 years later, we still don't know for sure how many victims he had. Today, we will be discussing the cases he is either suspected or thought to have committed as we uncover the cases that are possibly connected to Mack Ray Edwards.Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or the LAPD Cold Case Division at (213) 847-0970.Timestamps:Cases that are known to be connected:Stella Nolan - 2.31Brenda Howell and Donald Baker - 6.00 Gary Roche - 7.41Roger Madison - 08.14Donald Allen Todd - 08.46Thomas Bowman - 09.15Mack Ray Edwards - 12.11The Confessions - 15.03His Trial and Death - 19.00Other cases on Namus - 22.34Lynn Bernatte Luray - 24.51Mark Walden Wilson - 25.14Sammy Janckon & Alfred Grimes - 25.42Cases that Mack Ray Edwards is a suspect in - 26.42Bruce Kreman - 27.02Karen Tompkins - 27.53Dorothy Gale Brown - 29.03Ramona Price - 30.10Updates in recent years - 31.26Twitter - @Uncover_podInstagram - @uncovertruecrimepodYou can contact me by emailing uncovertruecrime@gmail.comCase Suggestion Form - https://forms.gle/mUDbNYeoTZ5kGfaq7Music: The Rake, The Woods and There is Something You Should Know by CO.AG & The Art of Silence by Uniq
It's never just as easy as "just leaving" an abusive relationship. The fear of repercussions, not having anywhere to go and the emotional and mental torture that victims go through, being just a few reasons why. The only people that know exactly how hard it is are those who have been through it and they are often the best people to support those unfortunate enough to find themselves in that exact same situation. Sadly, the people who are trying their best to help get people out of dangerous situations can unknowingly find themselves in one. No community or country is immune from the effects of gang violence, from forcing people to engage in prostitution, peddling drugs onto the streets and senseless murders. Going to school is a journey that a lot of children don't look forward to. To some kids, school is the bane of their life and they can't wait until they return home so they can chill out of hang out with their friends. Some kids love school and can't wait to get stuck in, get involved in extra-curricular activities and are just excited to learn. For one girl in 2003, the latter was definitely true and each day, she would leave her home to walk the very short distance between her home and the school bus. However, she would never come home. She didn't even make it onto the bus and even now, over 18 years later, police still don't know what happened to her. Let's uncover the unsolved disappearance of Tabitha Tudurs If you have any information on Tabitha's whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, please contact the Nashville Metro Police Department (615) 862-8600 or you can call the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (800) 843-5678. Not to see eye-to-eye with your in-laws is a struggle that I am sure many people can relate to. Whether parents don't like their child choice in partner or the way their grandchildren are being raised, or even just small petty disagreements, it can take its toll on a family dynamic. Most of the time, these issues are sorted but other people have some shocking horror stories of arguments and incidents they have had with their partners family. Today, we will be discussing a case where a feud between in-laws resulted in a tragic and senseless murder. Let's uncover the murder of Tammy Palmer. If you have any information about the whereabouts of Eugune Palmer, please call the FBI on 212-384-1000 or the Haverstraw police on 845-354-1500. Many of us have a morning routine, a way to ease ourselves into the day ahead. Having a bath or shower, eating breakfast, doing your hair and make-up, getting dressed, listening to the radio, etc. I know with my routine, I don't even think about it anymore, it's that habitual that I get up and do it without a second thought and I'm sure many of you are the same. When two parents entered their daughters house one January morning, it was clear that she had also followed her morning routine. An unmade bed, a wet towel hanging up and makeup lying across the bathroom countertop. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Except for the fact that she hadn't arrived at work and her car was found in a place she had no reason to be. To this day, their daughter remains missing and her parents are still fighting for answers. Let's uncover the unsolved disappearance of Jennifer Kesse. Crimeline are offering a $15,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in her case. If you have information on Jennifer's disappearance or her whereabouts, you can call Crimeline on 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). When people go missing or are murdered, their loved ones are often desperate for media attention, hoping that it will lead to new information in the case. Some victims receive very little media coverage, some receive a lot and there are a few that dominate headlines for months, weeks or even decades. While this seems like a good thing, sometimes in the midst of sensationalised stories and tabloid speculation, the focus is taken off the victim and people forget there is a real family grieving the loss of their loved one. That is certainly true in the case we will be discussing today as we uncover the unsolved murder of Stuart Lobback. If you have any information about Stuart's murder, please contact Essex police on 101Twitter - @Uncover_podInstagram - uncovertruecrimepodCase Suggestion Form - https://forms.gle/mUDbNYeoTZ5kGfaq7Music: The Rake & There is Something You Should Know by CO.AG and The Art of Silence by UniqAll sources and picture can be found at www.uncovertruecrimepodcast.co.uk
One of the worst injustices that occurs far too often is when a life is cruelly taken by another and the identity of the killer and the victim remain a mystery. The killer gets to live the rest of their live with no punishment and the victim's families are unaware that somewhere, maybe miles away, their loved one is unclaimed and without a name. There are so many Jane and John Doe's out there, all of whom deserve justice and to be brought home to rest in peace, but we have to get their stories out there and hope that someone, somewhere will have the missing piece that detectives need to solved the puzzle. I wish I could cover them all but for now, let's uncover the unsolved murder of the Woodlawn Jane Doe. If you have any information on Jane Doe's murder or her identity, please contact the Baltimore County Police Department at 410-887-6162.Twitter - @Uncover_podInstagram - uncovertruecrimepodCase Suggestion Form - https://forms.gle/mUDbNYeoTZ5kGfaq7Music: The Rake & There is Something You Should Know by CO.AG and The Art of Silence by UniqAll sources and picture can be found at www.uncovertruecrimepodcast.co.uk
While a loved one goes missing, their families are forced to go through an emotional turmoil that I would not wish on my worst enemy. Between wondering where they are every day, having to cope with not knowing what happened to them and not being able to grieve properly for their loved one, many families describe it as being in a constant state of limbo. Unless you have been unfortunate enough to have a loved one go missing, it is impossible to imagine exactly how devastating it would be, but some families of the missing have to deal with additional struggles that only serve to further their suffering. An example of this is trolling, and while it seems inconceivable that someone could be cruel enough to torment the families of the missing with such vile messages, unfortunately people like this do exist. This is just one of the devastating things that a Scottish family has had to go through since their loved one went missing eight years ago. Let's uncover the unsolved disappearance of Allan Bryant Jr. If you have any information on Allan's disappearance or his current whereavouts, please contact Police Scotland on 101 or you can email OperationToner@scotland.pnn.police.uk You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or call or text the charity Missing People on 116 000. I'm sure at one time or another, we have all tried to run away from our problems and while this certainly is tempting, it rarely works. Whether you are trying to escape from a debt, mental health issues, family problems or legal troubles, life often finds a way of catching up to us and forcing us to face our problems head on. Some people chose to physically run away from their lives and create a new identity for themselves, but others who have perhaps gotten themselves into a dangerous situation may have this choice taken away from them and might meet a far worse fate. Either of these scenarios could be true from a young woman, thought to be involved in the deaths of two of her acquaintances, before she, herself, went missing. Let's uncover the case of the Bakersfield Three. If you have any information on Baylee Despot's disappearance, or on the murders of James Kulstad and Micah Holsonbake, please contact the Bakersfield police on (661) 327-7111 Twitter - @Uncover_podInstagram - uncovertruecrimepodCase Suggestion Form - https://forms.gle/mUDbNYeoTZ5kGfaq7Music: The Rake & There is Something You Should Know by CO.AG and The Art of Silence by UniqAll sources and picture can be found at www.uncovertruecrimepodcast.co.uk
Finishing high school is the ending of one chapter of one's life and the start of another. While some leave school not knowing what they want to do with their lives, some have their entire future mapped out, know exactly what they want and how they plan on achieving it. Some will go on to achieve their goals, while some people's lives may take them on a totally different path that the one that had planned. The young woman we will be talking about today had her whole life ahead of her, until one fateful May evening when she went missing, never to be seen again. There is a lot we don't know about serial killers. We don't know what drives them to kill innocent people, how they can get any pleasure from it at all or how many of them go undetected for years. Sadly, in some cases, we don't know exactly how many victims they have, meaning that the families of their victims go without justice. And while some serial killers love to brag about their crimes, some will never confess to the true extent of their depravity, which leaves many to speculate how many innocent lives they have taken and who their victims might be and that’s exactly what we'll be discussing today. Let's uncover the cases that are possible connected to Christopher Halliwell. Most of us make little notes to ourselves to remember important dates or upcoming events. We might type them into our phones or computer, write them on the back of our hand, or scribble them onto a notepad or in a diary of sorts. Sometimes, these notes only make sense to the person who wrote them, and they may have to transcribe their meaning to others. The FBI came across a note like this in 1999, in the pocket of a deceased man's jeans. A piece of paper with letters, brackets, question marks and numbers written on it and while some believe the notes are merely the inner workings of one man's mind, others believe it could be a major clue to solving this man's murder. The Mississippi river is over 2,000 miles long and flows through ten states in America. The river is vital to several industries for its drainage system, its ability to generate hydroelectric power and for the various species of fish that swim in its waters. It is where water skiing was invented and was also the setting in many of Mark Twain's novels. The Mississippi holds a lot of historical relevance, cultural importance and is important to the eco system in several states. The river also holds many tragic secrets and unsolved mysteries, and the one we will be discussing today is darker than most. Trigger warning, we will be discussing the deaths of four new-borns as we cover the Unsolved Deaths of Corey, Jamie, Abbie and Angel Doe. Being at one with nature is said to be a very calming, relaxing and mindful experience. Escaping everyday life and taking in the beautiful, natural sights that this world has to offer. It’s frustrating when we are so close to achieving something, but it still feels out of our reach, or that one piece of the puzzle just hasn't fallen into place yet. Some unexpected things can happen on a night out. You may get more drunk than you thought you'd get, plans may change and you could meet new people that leave a lasting impression. People may warn us to be careful, but we never, and should never, expect anything bad to happen to us, but sadly, the most innocent of night's out can result in tragedy. Christmas is, for many, the happiest time of the year and is filled with laughter, joy and hope for the future. For some, it brings back awful memories and is another reminder of that their loved ones aren’t there with them and for people who lost friends or family during the festive period, it can be even more difficult. Substance abuse has the power to completely ruin people's lives and their relationships. Loved ones are often unwilling to help enable them, become tired of all the broken promises and sadly, many people are estranged or have been disowned by their family because of their addiction. You never know what goes on behind closed doors. The most unsuspecting people can harbour the most dreadful secrets, even the most successful people can have skeletons in their closet and just because someone appears to have the perfect family, they might still be dealing with unresolved issues from their own childhood. Issues that get progressively worse until they finally snap and commit a crime so awful that they make it onto one of the most infamous lists in the world. That's exactly what we will be discussing today as we discuss the murders of Mary, Brittany and Bobby Fisher. Predators can be found all over the world and come in many different forms. Some are humas, looking to exploit others for personal gain, while others are animals that rely on their ability to hunt in order to survive. When a young woman was violently killed back in 2008, it was assumed she was attacked by a great white shark, quite possibly the most feared animal in the ocean, but is it possible that her real killer lives on dry land, hiding in plain sight? Let's uncover the suspicious death of Michelle Von Emster. The transition from childhood to adolescence is as hard for parents, as it is for the young person. Not knowing how much, if any, responsibilities to give them and questioning every decision you make, worrying whether or not it was the right one. One such decision is the choice to leave your child home for the first time, something which usually doesn't result in any major problems. For one mother, this decision would have the worst possible outcome as she left her 13 year old daughter home alone go to work, but by the time she came back, she was gone and was never seen again. As a parent, it's natural to want to give your child all the things you didn’t have when you were growing up and to give them the best start in life that we can. Starting high school is daunting for a lot of teenagers, and what most of them want, more than anything, is to fit in and for their peers to accept them. So, when an invitation to party with slightly older and more popular students comes up, for most, it would be a no-brainer. This was certainly the case of two girls back in 2012, who were looking forward to cutting loose with some boys they knew from school. There was absolutely no way they could have foreseen the abuse they would be subjected to that night, and for years to come. Trigger warning, we will be discussing rape, sexual assault and self-harm today as I and Mark from the Survivors Network uncover Daisy Coleman's story.Check out the Survivor Network on GetVokl - https://getvokl.com/channel/colcrimeYou can follow the Survivor Netwrk on Twitter at @survivornetCheck out Cubs & Co on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/cubsandco_prints/ & you can check out their website here - https://www.cubsandcoprints.com/ (NOT SPONSORED, NOT AN AFF LINK)Start your own podcast with Buzzsprout todayhttps://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=670031(affiliate link)Twitter - @Uncover_podInstagram - uncovertruecrimepodJoin Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/uncovertruecrimediscussionCase Suggestion Form - https://forms.gle/mUDbNYeoTZ5kGfaq7Music - Dark Rage,The Rake by CO-AG & Where'd You Go by Fort MinorAll sources and pictures can be found at www.uncovertruecrimepodcast.co.uk
When violent crimes happen in small towns, local people are understandably terrified that a killer is walking amongst them. Is it their neighbour, a friend or god forbid, a family member? For some, the time between Christmas and New Year's is a chance to prepare for the upcoming year. For others, it's a chance to unwind from normal stresses of life and relax with family while the hype of the holiday season dies down. In 1985, those 7 days were filled with anxiety and uncertainty when their loved one went missing. Although she was found on the first day of 1986, their torment would only intensify after police announced that they disagreed with the families belief that she had been murdered, despite all the evidence to the contrary. A flaw that everyone has in common is that we judge other people. Not all to the same degree but we all, without knowing it, make snap judgements about others, based on what we think we know. Sometimes those judgements are right, sometimes they are wrong and sometimes, these pre-conceived ideas we have of others can be dangerous, especially when those people need our help. Today, we will talk about how the judgment of others majorly hampered a missing person’s investigation as we uncover the unsolved disappearance of Claudia Lawrence. If you have any information on Claudia's disappearance, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and pass details to the Force Control Room quoting “Claudia Lawrence”. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote “Claudia Lawrence, North Yorkshire Police”. Going out to play and exploring the local area is something most kids want to do. The freedom to play with their friends without parental supervision, going on walks around the local area and riding their bikes up and down the street is a normal part of childhood. Most of these children will return home, unharmed with the exception of some cuts and bruises, but today we will be discussing one boy in 2000 who never came home and whose death will remains a mystery. Let's uncover the unsolved death of Joshua Walden. Being a stepparent is very difficult and comes with a unique set of challenges. Most of the time, the child can form a good bond with their stepparent, but as I'm sure we are all aware, it doesn’t always work out this way and in extreme circumstances, the relationship turns abusive. Trigger warning, we will be talking about the sexual abuse as we uncover the unsolved disappearance of Mary Duncan. When we are walking down the street, minding our own business, we often don’t pay much attention to those around us. We should be able to get to where we need to go and feel safe along the way, not concerned that anyone is following us, or profiling us. That is a luxury most white people have, but for people of colour, sometimes doing something as simple as walking down the street can lead to senseless acts of violence resulting from racial profiling, discrimination and outright racism. That's what we will be talking about today as we uncover how Racism Killed Trayvon Martin.Twitter - @Uncover_podInstagram - uncovertruecrimepodCase Suggestion Form - https://forms.gle/mUDbNYeoTZ5kGfaq7Music: The Rake & Dark Rage by CO.AG and The Art of Silence by UniqAll sources and picture can be found at www.uncovertruecrimepodcast.co.uk
Threats of violence can be just as damaging as physical violence. The paranoia you can, wondering who and what to trust, and the emotional turmoil, wondering if it is ever going to end. a man in Telford, England became the victim of ongoing threats and racial abuse, it wreaked havoc on every part of his life. When those threats were seemingly realised, his family and friends did everything they could to seek justice. This fight didn’t stop, even after one of his friends and his nephew were also found dead, in strikingly similar circumstances. Today, we are going to uncover the story on how Racism Killed Johnny Elliot and Jason and Errol McGowanTwitter - @Uncover_podInstagram - uncovertruecrimepodCase Suggestion Form - https://forms.gle/mUDbNYeoTZ5kGfaq7Music: The Rake & Dark Rage by CO.AG and The Art of Silence by UniqAll sources and picture can be found at www.uncovertruecrimepodcast.co.uk
I think a lot have as have thought about the legacy we will leave behind. How will people remember us? What change were we able to make? Did people learn anything from us? You don’t think you are going to have to think about this stuff until you are well into adulthood, but there are lots of people taken from this world well before their time. The man we will be talking about today was the most normal of teenager, but left behind a legacy that changed a country and grieving parents determined to fight for justice for their son. Since time began, children have played games like cops and robbers, where they ensure the good guys always win. In their minds, it's simple; the good guys win and the bad guys lose. The older we get, we realise things don’t always turn out that way, but it doesn’t stop us from wishing it did. One boy in Ohio was playing with his toy gun, trying to defend the bad guys, when he was shot and killed by a police officer. Why? Let's uncover how Racism Killed Tamir Rice. Most kids don’t see black or white, they don’t discriminate or judge, they see people as people. Although this practise is now illegal, today's case will centre around a time when black people and white people couldn’t even live in the same part of town, where people of colour didn’t receive the same education, career choices, or adequate legal representation, meaning they were sometimes imprisoned and executed for crimes they did not commit. No matter how dark a case is, how little evidence there appears to be, or how little faith police and the public have in it ever being solved, all cases deserve attention, exposure and at least one person fighting on behalf of the victim for justice. Having a loved one die suddenly is devastating and can be hard to wrap our heads around. Never knowing what happened to them leaves their family and friends with a lot of heartache and pain and I can't even begin to imagine how what that must be. Some families will get answers, but those answers might lead to more questions and a scenario that no one can make sense of. In today's case, police initially believed no foul play was involved, this was before the medical examiner would come to a stunning conclusions, regarding her cause of death. When we turn on the news and hear about all the bad things happening all over the world, it can leave us with a sense of despair and anxiety about what the world is coming to. Thankfully, there are always people out there committed to making this world a better place. Some people write about injustice to raise awareness, some travel the world, giving aid and practical help to those unable to help themselves, whilst others strive to educate themselves and everyone else about important issues and what we can do to help. The woman we are going to be talking about today did all these things and more and was a brilliant example of how one person can touch so many lives. I'm sure we’ve all been walking outside somewhere when we have come across something that seemed very out of place. Upon closer inspection, we usually find the object is either not what it first seemed to be. Sometimes, it is exactly what it appears to be but is innocent enough that we only wonder for a few seconds how it ended up there. When a teenage body came across three suitcases under a bridge along the Lehigh river, never in a million years did he think he would be the one to discover the body of a female, along with a fetes. When you think of a scandal, you might recall headlines in papers, and accusations made against people with power and money. Back in the 1950's, the definition of a scandal was much different. Back then, especially if you were a woman, being a single parent, going through a divorce, having an affair or having a child outside of wedlock would often result in being disowned from your family and community. One woman, back in 1956, rose above it all and has described by one of her daughters as being "ahead of her time". That was until she disappeared after witnessing her boyfriend being shot. This case, despite all its twists and turns, has never been solved. Let's uncover the unsolved murder of Thomas Hotard and the disappearance of Audrey Moate.
