Two days after Christmas of 1993, thirty-eight year old nurse and mother of two, Latricia White failed to show up for work. Hours later, her father went to her home and was devestated to find her lifeless body lying in bed. It would later be determined she had been shot multiple times in the head as she slept.Investigators soon learned of Lee Wackerhagen, Latricia's live in boyfriend, who was nowhere to be found. Not only was Lee missing, but so was his nine year old son, Chance. Days later, Lee's abandoned truck was found in east Austin, the bed smeared with blood. It didn't take long for detectives to determine Wackerhagen had killed Latricia and fled, abducting his son in the process. For twenty long years that is exactly as the case remained until a cold case investigator with the Texas Rangers found several problems with the original investigation. In 2016, the Texas Department of Public Safety officially announced they now believed that Lee and Chance were both victims of foul play, likely at the hand of Latricia's killer.Sponsored by: ZocDoc! “I feel like your voice is your courage…it's your bravery.” (Culver Girls Academy student) Can there be any connection more vital in a girl's life than her connection to her voice, her authentic voice? The word “voice” has multiple meanings in the world of girls. Voice is often a term that is used metaphorically to talk about gender equity, implying that to have voice is to have power, to lack voice is to be powerless. We need to remember, however, that every girl already has a voice, a real voice, a voice she uses every day to negotiate her world. But having that voice is only the beginning; she must learn to find that voice, to use that voice, to own that voice. This episode is about the girls who are on that journey and will need our support, our encouragement, our modeling, as they are going to need to be brave. Join host Trudy Hall as she shares a lively conversation with Latricia Barksdale, the Vice President of Lean In Girls, a leadership program that is on a mission to equip girls to be self-assured, resilient, and knowledgeable about the bias they will face in the real world. We live in a world that often sends signals to girls that leadership belongs to others. This conversation reminds us that leadership belongs to them…once they have owned the power of their voice. Just after Christmas in 1993, Latricia White was found murdered and her boyfriend Dub Wackerhagen and his son Chance went missing. Police encountered a very bloody scene including what appeared to be a footprint in blood they believed belonged to Chance. But, they have very few clues with which to work. Join Mike and Morf as they discuss the murder of Latricia White and the disappearance of Dub and Chance Wackerhagen. The police initially theorized that Dub killed Latricia and then abducted his son Chance to keep him away from his mother. They went as far as to put out an arrest warrant for Dub. But, over the years, the police changed their minds and started to believe that Dub and Chance were more likely victims. There are still a lot of unanswered questions in this case. Latricia's live-in boyfriend, Lee “Dub” Wackerhagen, has vanished from their home, alongside his nine-year son, Chance. Three days later, Dub's abandoned pick-up truck is discovered, containing many of his personal items and blood which does not belong to Latricia. Since Dub was known for having a volatile temper, he becomes the prime suspect in the murder and a warrant is issued for his arrest. With Christmas right around the corner, we are all very busy, so this week is a mini episode that won't keep you away from your wrapping, baking, shopping, and all of the other things that make this time of the year so special. I absolutely LOVE the Christmas season. I love seeing everyone's lights, putting up the decorations, giving presents, and watching people act just a bit kinder at this time of year. But it's not a happy time for everyone. Long simmering family tensions can quickly escalate, often with tragic results. Christmas of 1993 was that second type of Christmas for the family of Latricia Gail White.
