Last June the police department in Alhambra, California, just outside of Los Angelos, alerted residents to a potential danger lurking in their midst. It's a method now being used by thieves to discover "an opportune time" to burglarize homes and steal. Luke also uses this phrase to describe how the devil operates. In John, our Savior describes the adversary as a thief who comes only to steal and destroy. So it's worth recognizing the subtle ways that he operates –and the remarkable resource God has given us to thwart the thief.

In my discussion with the popular Taiwanese figure Lōa Ēng Hôa, we explored various aspects of Taiwan. A key theme for Lōa is the importance of retaining the Taiwanese language, which he sees as vital in the face of Mandarin's dominance. (He views Mandarin as "the language of colonizers.") Lōa emphasizes that language is of ultimate importance and believes that the best way to wage war is through words. We also discussed whether Taiwanese people consider themselves part of China or culturally Chinese, and how this perception impacts traditional Taiwanese culture. During my time in Taiwan, I observed the cleanliness and civility of society, especially in contrast to some leftwing cities in America, like Portland, Oregon and Los Angelos, California. Lōa posed an intriguing question: Is this civility a result of being "well-behaved," or is it a reflection of tyranny? Watch this episode on YouTube.

This week I brought on the show, playwright, screenwriter, director, and actor, John Pollono. I wanted to go down the road a little bit about his remarkable journey in the business which expands across theatre and short films. John is one of the founders of the Jabberwocky Theatre Company in 2004 which became the Rogue Machine Theatre in 2008 where he produced his earlier plays. His big break came with his screenplay for the acclaimed biographical drama film, Stronger which premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. The screenplay, based on Bauman's memoir Stronger, was number two on the Black List (most-liked "motion picture screenplays not yet produced) in 2016.Stronger, starring multiple award-winning actors, Jake Gyllenhaal, is the inspiring real-life story of Jeff Bauman --- an ordinary man who captured the hearts of his city and the world to become a symbol of hope after surviving but losing his legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and must adjust to his new life. This project came along for John right after signing with Los Angelos - based Creative Artists Agency. Producers, Alex Young and Todd Lieberman were already familiar with Pollono's work. And they were on the hunt for something. That was when adapting Stronger became a prospect. At the time, the book was not yet published so he had a chance to review the unpublished book. Producer Scott Silver was looking to mentor a more junior writer for the Stronger film and fortuitously, John was a good fit having grown up 20 minutes from where the characters take place, he was the best candidate for the job. So, with a follow-up pitch, the book's film adaptation screenplay was sold to Lionsgate.Writing Stronger (the film) was a double success for Pollono. Not only was he mentored directly by the incredible Scott Silver and receiving writing directions about theme, structure, etc, but the project brought him some notoriety as well by topping number two on the blacklist a year before production. This interview was a pretty cool conversation and I did not hold back getting John to share all the gems of the business he's learned and fun questions like what it's like working with Frank Darabont and working on the new Hulk Hogan movie currently in production.Enjoy my conversation with John Pollono.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

Welcome back to another episode of the officially unofficial podcast of all things Grenadier - Grenadier Works with Krabby and Stu. The past two episodes - Episode 004 "Exclusive Greg Clark interview and first North American On Road Drive" and Episode 005 ”The Test Drive Washup” - featured Ineos Americas superman Greg Clark and the first on-road drive of a North American spec Ineos Grenadier. Today, we return to the dirt and interview a key player in the IA North American PTO Tour. In fact, our guest has arguably logged more Grenadier seat time than any North American … well, except for his girlfriend! And, without even knowing it, you may have taken a ride with him! Forum member Anand worked as a driving instructor for Overland Experts - the driving company responsible for the North American PTO tours. He, along side his girlfriend and the other OEX instructors, worked the events in New York, Los Angelos, and nearly every stop along the way. CW: This podcast contains content related to disordered eating and sexual assault. If at any point this episode becomes too triggering, please be sure to pause it and take some time to yourself. Furthermore, if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence or is struggling after an incident of sexual assault, help is available. The National Sexual Assault Hotline is 1-800-656-4673. I feel incredibly honored to share this episode with NYC-based comic, writer, and actress, Hanna Dickinson. I first heard Hanna speak on one of my favorite female-led podcasts and was completely moved by her story. Most people go through one or two major traumas throughout their entire life. Hanna experienced multiple in the matter of months. In this episode, Hanna talks about what led her to become sober from alcohol and amphetamines. She talks openly about being abducted and raped on her 29th birthday in Los Angelos, as well as contracting an STI in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hanna's story is first and foremost a testimony of her resilience. Despite the many traumatic experiences that she has faced in her young adult life, Hanna keeps on fighting and finding the silver lining to push forward. She finds humor in even her darkest days and uses comedy as a therapeutic outlet to share her struggles. One of my favorite quotes from a guest of this podcast is, "laughter is the greatest disinfectant." Hanna embodies this quote more than anyone I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I truly hope everyone takes a listen to her tale. You can keep up with Hanna by following her @hansdickie on Instagram. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/zoescurletis/support
Don't sleep on this episode if you want better client results these client sleep tips come directly from America's sleep expert. He gives more than 400 appearances a year and has published multiple NYTimes bestsellers. He's also contributed to the You Still Got It, Girl! Chapter on sleep. So if you've read that, you're a Flipping50 Menopause Fitness Specialist, you may recognize his name. You might have seen him in an inflight magazine before those were pulled too. Look, one of the most-downloaded cheat sheets I give trainers and health coaches is the Sleep tips tool. Why? Well, first if they don't sleep, they don't show up well if at all. They cancel more. When they do arrive, clients with 2 hours of sleep deprivation lack coordination. Four hours and they have the reaction skills of a legal drunk. Imagine that. We've got people driving to sessions if that's the case, who actually shouldn't be on the road any more than someone with a blood alcohol content level that would give them a ticket and a DUI. Then, what are we doing? Agility, reaction drills with them or pushing to heavy loads when they are more likely to get injured or deplete their immune system. Let's dive into this super short episode and you may be inspired to hop over to the Flipping 50 episode too. Client Sleep May Determine Your Success My Guest: Michael J. Living in Los Angelos, author, Hannah Sward shares her back story as a writer, the crossroads from publishing her book Strip, to the divine timing of her deeply personal experiences of where she is now. Hannah talks about the creative process of finding her inspiration and trusting the balance between her sobriety of 13 years and the success of her book. Strip: A Memoir "BORN IN THE BOHEMIAN SEVENTIES, Hannah Sward was abandoned by her mother and lived with her poet father on an island with no stores or cars. Kidnapped and molested by a stranger at age six, she grew up to be a stripper and a prostitute with a taste for crystal meth. Painstakingly honest and often humorous, Strip is a heartfelt memoir revealing a woman's journey from innocence to a dark existence and beyond to a new world of empowerment." Nate Pontious has not lived a conventional life. After growing up in Illinois, Nate spent his early adult life serving in Afghanistan as a member of the Marine Corps. As you'll hear in the podcast with Nate, his return to life as a civilian left him in an unfamiliar place. The nature of the Marines provided clear objectives and direction for him, and Nate's transition to civilian life felt abrupt. Without a real idea of what he wanted to do next, Nate left his hometown in Illinois for the coasts of California in search of something different. Nate started his life in LA sleeping on the beach, hustling for money and food, and working hard to establish himself. Nate ultimately found himself falling in love with the world of CrossFit, and quickly became a top-level competitor in the sport. As you'll hear in the podcast, Nate has a gift for putting his fitness and health at the center of his life, even during hard times. The key for him is his morning routine. All of his experiences led him to start his online fitness business with his now fiance, Remi, called Home Bodies, which has since become a massive success. Now, Nate is spending his days building and maintaining his ranch in Texas. Our conversation with Nate took several directions. His stories cover the depth of the human experience: serving overseas in the Marine Corps, living homeless on the beaches of LA, competing in CrossFit, building a successful business, starting a ranch & pursuing a purpose-driven life. Adrian Jones is the CEO of Zip World UK, a company that specializes in creating unique and thrilling adventures. From the world's fastest zipline to underground mini-golf, Ade is an expert in taking experiences to the next level. Ade began his career working the frontlines at Alton Towers. This began a career with Merlin Entertainments spanning nearly three decades, where he served as General Manager of Madam Tussauds in Las Vegas and Los Angelos, opened LEGOLAND Florida as General Manager in 2011, before being promoted to President & Divisional Director of Midway Attractions in North America, and then Global New Concepts Development Director.. Recently, he became the CEO of Zip World, where he continues to innovate and create new, exciting experiences for guests. In this interview, Ade shares his insights on adventure tourism, the importance of giving people the freedom to succeed, and building strong relationships with local communities. Adventure Tourism "The adventure market is growing massively." Adventure tourism gives guests the opportunity to experience some of the most unique things our world has to offer. When Ade started with Zip World, he was impressed with how positive the reviews were and how engaged guests were with the facilities. By providing a wide range of attractions for the entire family and creating a great guest experience, Zip World captures the attention of their guests. Ultimately, the attractions industry is about selling fun, something Ade fell in love with when he got his start. One of the best ways to sell fun is to create a facility that can't be replicated virtually. For instance, the caverns at Zip World contain 200 years of formations, and the personal interactions with employees can't be replicated in the digital space. Freedom to Succeed "If someone is frightened to fail, they won't take any risks." Another key to the success of Zip World is the employee culture. Ade knows that the ‘People Agenda' is a huge priority when it comes to building a successful culture. To take employees to the next level, Ade emphasizes the importance of creating the freedom to succeed. By implementing this culture, employees get the chance to build who they are and help create a dynamic business. Mistakes build who we are, and by creating a freedom to succeed, we also create the freedom to fail. Failure is important, and everyone can learn from their mistakes. Ade knows that by failing, we can become stronger in the places we were broken before, which is something that could benefit any operation. Community Relations “We were very sympathetic; we listened.” One of Ade's greatest challenges was leading the development of LEGOLAND Florida while simultaneously creating a great relationship with the Winter Haven community. By holding town halls and being open to feedback from the locals, Winter Haven is now proud to have LEGOLAND Florida as a staple in their community. Location! Location! Location! The unfortunate birthplace of this historic Los Angelos hotel may have fallen on hard times but its truly tragic happenings seem to have compounded into the creation of one of California's most haunted locations. This week we cover California's Cecil Hotel. Also known as "Hotel Death" we've attempted to glean some metaphysical insight on the most recent happenings and general history of this haunted location. Similar to the possibly poor delivery of our badly timed jokes in an attempt to fight the solemn happenings of the Cecil Hotel, the tragic events of this once prime, upperclass establishment are continuous throughout its living memoir. Hopefully a truly new beginning full of love, light, and all things bright is in store the well-known Cecil Hotel. We'd be lying if we didn't say that Tik Tok has been a huge source of my entertainment since the start of the pandemic. There are a ton of truly funny, weird, and inventive people using the platform to express themselves. A lot of musicians have been using the platform but none as well as sad alex. Recently, Alex has been running a campaign recently through a series of Tik Toks leading up to the release of her new single "rugburn". Each video features a portion of the song and her singing it somewhere different. Dan and Alex sat down to have a in depth conversation which you're about to hear. Alex Saad and Dan discuss her use of Tik Tok and social media for sad alex to promote her music through the pandemic. But they also delve into the dangers of social media and get a bit into the ideas of parasocial relationships. Alex has written music for many other artists but we chat about creating her art and the amount of authenticity that goes into creating art for the sad alex project. When you put something of yourself on the page, you have to give a level of the truth to the audience which Alex excels at. Her music is a look into who she is and that's what she wants. Her intention is to be her authentic self when creating art. The two discuss their approach to the creation of content but also get into the idea of faking it till you make it. They talk about how trying to approach things differently is where they have found their success. Before the interview, Dan ran a question past Alex that she was shocked he knew. It was a big moment like he was Nardwaur interviewing someone. Alex talks about blending sexuality, intimacy, and humor for her connects in her music. Alex is also from the East Coast so she and Dan talk about the difference in sandwiches between their area versus Los Angelos. "rugburn" is out now and be sure to stream her other music.

Bogdanovich has claimed that the early months of 1980 were the happiest time of his life. He was in emphatic, unequivocal love with Playboy model Dorothy Stratten, and she was equally in love with him. Their blissful romance led to Bogdanovich dreaming up his next film, They All Laughed. Weaving together his affections for Stratten, the ongoing dissolution of her current marriage, and the recent affair shared by stars Ben Gazzara and Audrey Hepburn on their previous film together, Bogdanovich penned the most sincere expression of love he could, and set it against the swooning backdrop of New York City in the spring. Watching the film, it's evident the director was floating on cloud nine during its production, which only makes the dark aftermath of its construction all the more tragic. On August 13th, 1980, Dorothy Stratten was murdered by her estranged husband during a meeting about their divorce at his rented home in Los Angelos, before then taking his own life with the same gun shortly therafter. Upon hearing the news, Bogdanovich's life instantly fell apart, with many years of distraught grief and exceedingly poor life choices to follow. Just as his life and career were reaching a concurrent high, everything came crashing down. No studio was willing to touch They All Laughed in the wake of Stratten's death, and so Bogdanovich dug himself into debt buying the rights to the film and attempted to distribute it himself. Unsurprisingly, this did not go well. The film desperately floundered at the box office and Bogdanovich was forced to declare bankruptcy. The failure of They All Laughed, alongside a number of other auteur-driven flops at the same time, proved to be the final nail in the coffin of the New Hollywood renaissance of director-driven studio productions. Fortunately, the film has regained some traction thanks to a new generation of Hollywood auteurs, with the likes of Quinten Tarantino and Wes Anderson championing it as a masterwork in recent decades. Another hiatus followed suit, but by 1985 Bogdanovich was back at it, both because he needed to pick up the pieces and because he needed the money. When they were together, Dorothy expressed particular interest in the story of Joseph Merrick, the Elephant Man. Bogdanovich pieced together her identification with him as an object of public attention, subjugated for their extreme looks – one radiant, the other malformed. This is what inspired Bogdanovich to make Mask, a biographical story of the similarly-stricken Rocky Dennis, and his struggle to live a normal life with a debilitating facial deformity. Mask was one of Bogdanovich's most successful films to date, being a big hit with both audiences and critics, as well as snagging some much-deserved awards for leading actress Cher at Cannes, as well an Academy Award for the incredible makeup effects used to believably transform Eric Stoltz into the afflicted young boy. Still strapped for cash (seriously, do not try to self-distribute your own movies), Bogdanovich was still operating as a director for hire. He found himself under the auspices of the rather notorious Dino De Laurentiis, whom Bogdanovich would later blame for the unmitigated failure of Illegally Yours. With a title tipping its name to a Preston Sturges classic, Bogdanovich was set to make a contemporary screwball comedy for the ‘80s in the same way he did in 1973 with What's Up, Doc? The commercial appeal of leading man Rob Lowe seemed to assure a hit, but a forced rewrite of the script and a hacked-up editing job seems to have ruined the picture's chances for success, and caused Bogdanovich enough grief to proclaim it as the worst film he ever made. In 1987 author Larry McMurty penned a follow-up novel to the beloved The Last Picture Show. Bogdanovich was then naturally in talks to direct the film adaptation of the story set some thirty years after the captivating narrative he first brought to theaters sixteen years earlier. Texasville reunited most of the original cast, including Jeff Bridges and Cybill Shepherd, who began as mere aspirants in Picture Show but were now bonafide stars. The story swaps its deconstruction of youthful angst for the mature interests of middle-aged malaise, investigating how the reverberations of the past reflect upon and impact the present. But without the same haunting cinematography and sense of place, not to mention the confidence of the studio behind him, Bogdanovich's film faltered yet again at the box office. It was a sad reminder of how the young protégé of Orson Welles, whose second feature was once heralded alongside the mighty Citizen Kane, had, much like the great director himself, fallen from the public's graces. No longer did his name command the same capital as once before, having only further ruined his reputation by constantly fighting with the studios in a vain attempt to regain his creative integrity.
