Vandaag - op de Champs Elyssee - komt de Tour van 2019 na drie weken ten einde. We zullen de renners van Team Ineos op een rijtje zien poseren - met in hun midden de gele trui. Er zal geklonken worden met champagne, we zullen beelden zien van renners die zich zittend op de stoep het speciaalbier goed laten smaken, er zal worden teruggeblikt op alle mooie momenten, van de glorie van onze Mike in Brussel en de souplesse van Alaphillipe tot de chaos en de modderstromen in de Alpen. De mooiste Tour van deze eeuw? Het zou zomaar kunnen. Voor ons kwam het allemaal samen in een foto van Luisa Gonzalez, genomen in Zipaquira, Colombia. Op de achtergrond: twee volwassen armen in juichstand. Op de voorgrond: een jongetje van een jaar of tien, in wielershirt, met wielerhelm, dikke vreugdetranen biggelend over zijn wangen. En hetzelfde ongeloof in de ogen als bij Egan Bernal, de winnaar van de Tour. Nog een jaar of 12 - dan zien we misschien ook hem terug - vechtend op de flanken van de Mont Ventoux tegen een klein rossig menneke uit Nuenen, dat eerst de trots van het dorp zag rijden en er vervolgens op uit trok met z'n neefjes om een Tourdefranske te rijden in de polder. Het was een mooie etappe, die met finish bovenop de Tourmalet. Het was bovendien een etappe die een boel duidelijk maakte: het ‘mottige muisje’ Bardet zakte er definitief doorheen, evenals de gebroeders Yates. Maar ook de top 3 oogde kwetsbaar. Thomas verloor tijd, Alaphillipe moest geregeld op zijn tanden bijten en Kruijswijk kon zijn eigen ploeggenoten af en toe niet bijbenen. Dat belooft nog wat voor de laatste week. Monsieur 69 is de Vlaming Jasper de Buyst. Hij maakte furore als baanwielrenner, maar trekt inmiddels al enige tijd de sprint aan voor Caleb Ewan. In het grote Gele-Trui-geschiedenisboek van Mart Smeets treffen we vandaag de Fransman Pascal Lino. Hij pakte in 1992 tot zijn eigen verbazing het geel, en behield die trui maar liefst elf dagen. Met die winst verloor hij echter wel iets anders: de vriendschap met Richard Virenque. De etappe van vandaag voert weer door de Pyreneeën. De Kopgroep doet een poging om de winnaar te voorspellen. Martijn voorziet een tweede winst voor Pinot, Mart gokt op Uran en Joosts chauvinistische inborst doet hem inzetten op Steven Kruijswijk. Daar had vrijwel niemand rekening mee gehouden. Maar zoals wel vaker: het geel deed ook hem vliegen. Wie de etappe van vandaag gaat winnen is ook niet eenvoudig te voorspellen. Maar de rit, met aankomst bovenop de Tourmalet, belooft er één met vuurwerk te worden. Wordt het weer Alaphillipe, of revancheren Fuglsang of Bardet zich? Monsieur 69 is William Bonnet, een behoorlijk onbekende Franse renner. Hij heeft twee grote wapenfeiten. Hij won in 2010 een rit in de Parijs-Nice door Sagan te verslaan. En hij was in 2015 de veroorzaker van de gigantische valpartij in de Tour, waarna velen, inclusief Dumoulin en hijzelf moest afstappen. In het grote geschiedenisboek van de gele trui staat Mart Smeets stil bij de eerste Poolse renner die hem droeg: Lech Piasecki in 1987. Will the race only get better from here?  After an incredible first week of the Tour, it's time to catch our breath as we head into the first rest day. Alaphillipe has taken back yellow, the GC competition was blown up in the most unexpected way, and Ineos looks primed to strike as we move towards the Pyrenees. Randy takes you through all the action of the past few stages, gets you up to speed on who is placed where in the General Classification, and gives some riders to look out for as we are about to hit the high altitudes that have been promised. It will be tough to top the first week, but this Tour de France appears to be a classic in the making. Randy finishes the episode by reviewing the final stages of the Giro Rosa.

Forårssæsonen går på held, men derfor skal I selvfølgelig ikke snydes for den ældste dame og dermed også den ældste af de såkaldte forårsklassikerer Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Meget er sket siden løbets første professionelle sejrsherre Leon Housa viste det belgiske flag 3 år i streg, men visse ting har nu alligevel ikke ændret sig, for løbet er nemlig akkurat så besværligt og alsidigt som altid med dets kuperede terræn og udmattende længde.
