This month's edition of the Race Communiqué with me, EF Education Easypost DS Tom Southam, and Jayco AlUla pro rider Luke Durbridge is the perfect pod to wrap up the racing we've just witnessed and get you in the mood for the big one!    We kick off this month's ep with our first listener question! That's right, we've been doing this for three years and we've finally got our first question! The Dauphine Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the ultimate warm up race for the Tour de France, and it always provides a great insight into how the favourites are going, as well as giving us a bit of a sneak preview of some of the stages. With the big three - Pogi, Jonas, and Remco - all favouring altitude camps, the Dauph…..race was set to be a showdown between the young French hope Paul Seixas, UAE Emirates defector to Lidl Trek Juan Ayuso, and Pogi's Mexican prodigy Isaac Del Toro.    Things started with a bang for Tom's EF team with French superstar Alex Baudin taking the first stage and with it the yellow jersey, which they valiantly defended up until the final weekend. Young Aussie Luke Tuckwell put himself in the 60 rider breakaway on stage 6 and took over the lead of the race and, with Paul Seixas crashing hard on stage 7 and eventually abandoning at the start of the last day of racing, it was Tuckwell's to lose. In the end Isaac Del Toro was just too strong and took the overall victory by just under a minute on young Luke.    At just 21 years old, this is an absolutely massive breakthrough ride for Luke. He's out there swimming with the Dolphins in his first year pro! I was stoked to have a quick catch up with him and hear his thoughts on the race, and what this means for the rest of his summer.   Durbo's PeloChat is one for you data nerds out there. Last year, he said Tour de Suisse was the toughest stage race he's ever done, but this year's Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes might just take the crown. He's going through the TrainingPeaks data to compare the races and categorically decide which was the bigger challenge. This isn't just about the training load, though; these races can be a real hot bed for sickness and - being so close to the Tour - if you get sick you could wreck your chances of a 3 week all expenses paid trip around France in July.   Talking Tactics time next, and Southam's going all in for the mega break. We've seen it a few times already this year; first at Liege and then again at the Dauphine, and it's starting to become a tactic that teams like EF and Uno X are banking on to bring home some big results. Neben dem Radsport ist der Fußball eine weitere große Leidenschaft von uns. Wir haben unsere ersten Eindrücke zur WM besprochen und sind dann natürlich auf die Dauphine eingegangen.Gesamtsieger: Isaac del Toro gewann die Rundfahrt nach einer beeindruckenden Schlussphase. Entscheidung am letzten Tag: Auf der 8. und letzten Etappe zum Plateau de Solaison griff Del Toro rund 9 km vor dem Ziel an, gewann die Etappe solo und drehte damit die Gesamtwertung zu seinen Gunsten. Wichtigste Überraschung: Der erst 21-jährige Australier Luke Tuckwell führte vor der Schlussetappe noch die Gesamtwertung an, musste sich aber dem stärkeren Del Toro geschlagen geben. Besondere Ereignisse: Wout van Aert gewann zwar Etappe 5, musste die Rundfahrt jedoch wegen anhaltender Beschwerden nach einem Trainingssturz vorzeitig verlassen. Fazit: Die Rundfahrt war die erste Austragung unter dem neuen Namen „Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes“ und entwickelte sich zu einer Bühne für die nächste Generation des Radsports. If you think it feels like things are speeding up and change is coming faster than ever, well, you’re right. It took us hundreds of thousands of years to get to a worldwide population of 3 billion. We got there in 1927. From there, it only took about 70 more years – one lifetime – to get to a population of 6 billion. Back at the 3 billion mark, fewer Americans lived in urban areas. When they needed to shop for necessary supplies they’d talk about “going to town.” “Town” was often a single street. A commercial corridor. A “Main Street.” Here in New Orleans, over the 300 years of our existence we’ve had a number of main streets. Canal Street. Dryades Street. Magazine Street. Recently we’ve added Freret Street. The current incarnation of Freret street as a commercial district began with the re-birth of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. One of the first outposts of resurrection was a then audaciously high-end, hip, cocktail bar and restaurant, called Cure. Cure would go on to win all kinds of awards, including the Oscar of hospitality - a James Beard Award for “Outstanding Bar Program” - and the company behind it, CureCo Bar & Restaurant Group would go on to open Val’s, also on Freret Street, and other establishments, including Cane & Table on Decatur Street. Neal Bodenheimer is a Co-Founder and the Managing Partner of these ventures, as well as a partner in Dauphine’s in Washington DC, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of Tales of the Cocktail Foundation, and author of the book, Cure, New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix ‘em. Tourists who visit New Orleans will often check out Freret Street and Magazine Street, but mostly they want to see The French Quarter. Typically, they’ll stay in a hotel in the Quarter, or at an Air B’nB in a neighborhood. There’s another local accommodation option too. It’s just west of the city. It sits on 7 and a half acres. It’s staffed by 12 employees, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and has a full concierge desk. There’s a shuttle service to the French Quarter, and to special events like Saints games and Jazz Fest. It’s the KOA campground in River Ridge. There are 100 RV sites, 4 tent sites, and 3 deluxe lodges. The owners of KOA Campgrounds New Orleans are husband and wife team, Mike and Deborah Dunn. Yes, we have Big Ass Beers and Pat O’Briens, but we also have craft cocktails and Cure. And, yes, we have hotels on Bourbon Street and Air BnB’s Uptown, but we also have KOA Campgrounds in River Ridge. There is, as they say, more than one way to skin a cat. According to AI, the origin of that saying is unknown, but it’s thought to refer to the various solutions to the tricky business of cleaning and preparing catfish. La historia de Renault en España es una historia de éxito, ligada indisolublemente a las factorías de Valladolid y Palencia. Sin embargo, para entender por qué muchos modelos emblemáticos de la "Régie" francesa nunca llegaron a nuestras carreteras, debemos analizar el contexto sociopolítico de las décadas de los 50, 60 y 70. En aquel entonces, España era un mercado autárquico protegido por un "muro de cristal" en los Pirineos: los aranceles. Importar un coche terminado de Francia podía suponer pagar más del 100% de su valor en impuestos, lo que convertía a los Renault franceses en mitos que solo veíamos cuando llegaban los turistas en verano. FASA (Fabricación de Automóviles Sociedad Anónima) fabricaba bajo licencia, pero con una condición estricta: los coches debían tener un altísimo porcentaje de componentes nacionales. Si un modelo era tecnológicamente complejo o su mercado potencial era pequeño —como los coupés, las grandes berlinas o los motores V6—, traer la maquinaria específica a Valladolid simplemente no salía a cuenta. Hoy realizamos un viaje por esos Renault desconocidos que marcaron una época al otro lado de la frontera. Los pioneros y las berlinas de lujo El Renault Colorale (1950-1957) es quizás uno de los modelos más fascinantes y olvidados. Mucho antes de que se inventara el término SUV, el Colorale ofrecía una carrocería familiar enorme, robusta y con versiones 4x4 desarrolladas por especialistas. Por otro lado, el Renault Frégate (1951-1960) representaba la elegancia francesa de posguerra. Una berlina de líneas fluidas y suspensión independiente a las cuatro ruedas que competía directamente con el Citroën 11 Ligero. Mientras en Francia era el coche de representación por excelencia, en España ese hueco lo ocupó Seat con el 1400. FASA estaba tan saturada produciendo el 4/4 y el Dauphine que meter una berlina de 4,7 metros en la línea de montaje era logísticamente inviable. La revolución del diseño y el rechazo al portón Uno de los casos más curiosos es el del Renault 16 (1965-1980). Es, posiblemente, el modelo que más añoran los entusiastas. Fue una revolución: mezclaba la elegancia de una berlina con la practicidad de una furgoneta gracias a su quinta puerta. Sin embargo, la directiva de FASA cometió un error de apreciación histórico: creían que el comprador español asociaba el portón trasero con los vehículos de carga y que un coche de "estatus" debía tener maletero separado. En la misma línea de exclusividad encontramos el Renault Rambler (1962-1967). Gracias a una alianza con la americana AMC, Renault comercializó este gigante de 6 cilindros en Europa. Era un "sofá con ruedas" lleno de cromados que, sencillamente, no cabía por las estrechas calles de las ciudades españolas de la época. Coupés, inyección y el poder del V6 Llegados los años 70, la gama se diversificó en Francia con los Renault 15 y 17. Eran los "hermanos guapos" del R12. El R15 era la opción de acceso, mientras que el R17 presentaba un diseño mucho más agresivo, con cuatro faros redondos y persianas en el pilar C que le daban un aire de "mini Muscle Car". El techo de la gama lo marcaron los Renault 20 y 30. El R30 fue el primer Renault de seis cilindros en décadas, equipado con el motor V6 PRV. Con frenos de disco ventilados y dirección asistida de serie, era una joya técnica. Sin embargo, la fiscalidad española penalizaba duramente los motores de gran cilindrada, y Renault España no quiso entrar en una guerra directa con las marcas de importación como BMW o Mercedes que empezaban a asomar tímidamente. Versiones "picantes" y el sueño del Safrane Incluso cuando los modelos sí llegaban a España, a menudo nos perdíamos las versiones más prestacionales. Es el caso del Renault 9 Turbo, que en Francia era un deportivo ligero y rapidísimo con el motor del R5 Copa Turbo, mientras que aquí el R9 mantuvo siempre una imagen seria de "coche de médico o maestro". También ocurrió con el Renault 18 Turbo, cuya versión familiar ("Break") nunca llegó a nuestras carreteras a pesar de ser un concepto de "avión familiar" muy avanzado para su tiempo. El último gran "prohibido" fue el Renault Safrane Biturbo (1994-1996). En los 90 las fronteras ya estaban abiertas, pero este coche era una locura comercial. Con tracción total y 268 CV, su precio hoy equivaldría a más de 200.000 euros. Fue un fantasma en nuestras carreteras, un intento de Renault de golpear a los BMW M5 que demostraba de lo que era capaz la ingeniería francesa cuando se le daba vía libre.

De Dauphine was ongekend spannend, tot de weg omhoog liep. Toen was het toch weer gewoon Pogi die de lakens uitdeelde. Niemand kon langer volgen dan een paar honderd meter en daarna was het solo is yolo. Gelukkig was er ook koers zonder Pogacar.
