The story of the longest consistently run cycling grand tour for women. Now known as the Giro Rosa, the Giro D'Italia Femminile was first raced in 1988. The race featured a total of nine stages with an average of 87km per day. The winner was Italian Maria Canins. When she started cycling, she was nicknamed ‘Mama Volante' – ‘The Flying Mother' – as she was a 32-year-old mother who was originally an accomplished cross country skier. She tells Tom Whalley about that first race. A TBone production.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive and testimony. Sporting Witness is for those fascinated by sporting history. We take you to the events that have shaped the sports world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes, you become a fan in the stands as we take you back in time to examine memorable victories and agonising defeats from all over the world. You'll hear from people who have achieved sporting immortality, or those who were there as incredible sporting moments unfolded.Recent episodes explore the forgotten football Women's World Cup, the plasterer who fought a boxing legend, international football's biggest ever beating and the man who swam the Amazon river. We look at the lives of some of the most famous F1 drivers, tennis players and athletes as well as people who've had ground-breaking impact in their chosen sporting field, including: the most decorated Paralympian, the woman who was the number 1 squash player in the world for nine years, and the first figure skater to wear a hijab. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the tennis player who escaped the Nazis, how a man finally beat a horse in a race, and how the FIFA computer game was created.(Photo: Maria Canins in the 1986 Tour de France Feminin. Goga y Marisol Toro esta semana repasan:
I must saying being able to call Lauren Hall a friend is amazing in so many ways. She can tear your legs off with a smile and has the ability to bring the best out of everyone. Watching her race was incredible but what she is doing now will have a long lasting effect on the next generation of cyclists. Her ability to guide the next generation is and will lead cycling in a better and new direction. Lauren Hall graduated from Mississippi State University in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. She was a Division I soccer player for MSU, leading to a season in professional soccer following her undergraduate. Lauren also attended culinary school and worked professionally in child nutrition education while simultaneously completing a master's degree in management. Lauren took up cycling at the age of 28. What started as a hobby soon became a full-time, life-consuming passion. Within two years she turned pro, and has competed at the highest levels, in dozens of countries. She was a member of the USA Cycling National team for five years, raced in four world championships, and a 3-time National Champion on the track. She was a member of the USA Cycling winning Giro Rosa team, the most prestigious women's race in the world, and also won the Gent Wevelgem. She was a team captain for the last five seasons before retiring in 2018. In addition to her new role as Regional Gift Officer for USA Cycling based out of Cortez, CO. Lauren volunteers her time with the Homestretch Foundation, High Desert Devo, Little Bellas, and El Gruppo Cycling. She is a board member on MTB Afghanistan and a mentor for Amy D. Na última grande corrida por etapas antes do Tour vimos Richard Carapaz vencer a Volta à Suiça, dando assim mais um provas por etapas à INEOS neste ano de 2021.

Head kuulamist!

The "panel" takes on the insanity that is the 2020 bike racing season. Tour de France, Tirreno, Giro Rosa, and so, so much more.
The Col de la Loze did not disappoint. The narrow, steep final climb of stage 17 set the GC race alight, and may have clinched the win for Primoz Roglic. Plus, Marianne Vos won her third stage and the Giro Rosa and we hear from 2nd place on the day, Hannah Barnes.
In 2016, at the Rio Olympics, Mara Abbott was caught by a group of 3 less than 200m to the finish line. She took home a 4th place and in her heart she knew she gave everything she had. Little did she know this was the race that would define her racing career. Not having won the Giro Rosa twice or the National Championships, but instead having just missed out on a medal in her career's finale. Mara takes some time to talk about how that feel, to have people view a race you view as a disappointment as a triumph. She lets us in on here thoughts during and after that race and the ongoing process of dealing with retirement.
