Welcome back to Spin Cycle, everybody. This week, Caley, Dane, and Jonny bring you:Dave Brailsford is making a return to cycling after being shuffled from his day-to-day role at Man United, potentially focusing more on the cycling team. His return prompts discussion about Geraint Thomas's potential management role upon retirement, first reported by Escape Collective in March. The exact nature of Thomas's role is ill-defined, with speculation ranging from something like head sports director or director of racing, or perhaps stepping into a role providing human connection and emotional intelligence for the riders, given that he doesn't seem to relish internal politics. The Criterium du Dauphine is upon us, set to be a mano a mano a mano battle featuring Vingegaard, Pogacar, and Evenepoel in the same stage race for the first time this year.

Lights, Live stream, action. We are back. Criterium racing is back. It is time to get 2025 started in a huge way. For the first time ever we brought competitors together to talk about how the race happened. Ok, when it comes to Will Hardin and Clever Martinez, it is hard to call either of them competitors, they are more like friends who want to push each other's physical and mental limits to the max. Either way, it is great to get the inside view from the guys who won the race.

In 2000, Marcel Wüst crashed at the Criterium d'Issoire as he battled for an intermediate sprint. The accident, in the middle of his preparation for that year's Vuelta España would cost Marcel the vision in one eye and ending his career. Marcel had been one of the best sprinters in the bunch, winning 14 Grand Tour stages - including pipping Jensie to victory at the Tour de France in 2000. Now Marcel, now runs Casa Ciclista in Mallorca - where you can ride and stay with him! His sense of humour was well known in the pack... and nothing has changed in the past 25 years.Find out more about Marcel's cycling resort herehttps://www.team-casaciclista.de/ The Odd Tandem is a Shocked Giraffe production and is produced by Mark Payne. Takeaways: Criteriums are a popular racing format in the United States, featuring closed urban circuits. Felipe Machado highlights the cultural differences in cycling competitions between Brazil and the U.S. Racing in Central Park offers a unique experience with a dynamic and technical course. The American cycling scene is more organized, with frequent races and less bureaucracy. Participation in criteriums allows for a high volume of races in a short time. Felipe discusses the challenges of training during harsh winter conditions in the Northeast.

The criterium du Dauphine is seen for many as the last test and tune up before the Tour de France and that reflects in the startlist. Last year Jonas Vingegaard dominated but this year there will be no Vingegaard or Pogacar on the startles but there are still some interesting riders. All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: MOG STORY 1: Motorcyclist Indicted for Gwinnett Crash That Killed Georgia State Trooper Gerson Danilo Ayala-Rodriguez, 21, was indicted for murder by a Gwinnett County grand jury following a Jan. 28 crash on Interstate 85 near Old Peachtree Rd. that killed Trooper Jimmy Cenescar. Ayala-Rodriguez faces felony charges including felony murder, first-degree vehicular homicide, tampering with evidence, and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, alongside misdemeanor charges for reckless driving, speeding, driving without a license, operating a vehicle without insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle. Officials stated Ayala-Rodriguez was traveling over 140 mph on his motorcycle before the crash, which occurred during a pursuit initiated by Cenescar. Ayala-Rodriguez allegedly destroyed the motorcycle's license plate during the chase. Cenescar, 28, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Ayala-Rodriguez was arrested five days later and remains in Gwinnett County jail without bond. STORY 2: Gwinnett Police Searching for Missing 13-Year-Old Suwanee Girl Sandy Michelle Soto, a 13-year-old girl, has been missing from her home on Welford Road in unincorporated Suwanee since April 21 around 11:45 p.m., as reported by the Gwinnett County Police Department. We'll be right back Break 2: TOM WAGES – SCANDRETT STORY 4: Georgia Power plan to leave coal ash in groundwater could be upended by new EPA rule The U.S. EPA finalized rules aimed at reducing fossil fuel power plant pollution, eliciting praise from clean energy nonprofits for addressing health risks from coal ash disposal. The regulations target greenhouse gas emissions, requiring coal plants to cut carbon emissions by 90% by 2032. Georgia Power may need to revise plans regarding coal ash disposal and faces potential compliance challenges for legacy coal ash sites. Power industry groups criticized the rules, citing concerns about job losses and reliability. Litigation is expected, especially concerning carbon emissions rules. Georgia Power, despite reducing emissions, faces scrutiny for plans to extend fossil fuel capacity. Environmental groups urge utilities to reconsider gas-dependent future amid EPA's regulatory actions. STORY 5: Dog theft causes same emotional turmoil as losing a child New research suggests that dog owners who experience pet theft undergo significant emotional distress, akin to losing a family member or child. The bond between owners and dogs is profound, often intensifying the grief. However, legal frameworks often treat stolen dogs as mere property, limiting support from law enforcement. The manner of theft, whether through force or burglary, exacerbates the trauma. Owners may face delays in processing grief, akin to PTSD, especially if the dog isn't recovered. This study, published in Human-Animal Interactions, underscores the need for psychological and legal support tailored to the unique grief experienced by dog owners. Further research aims to develop support tools for those affected by dog theft. We'll be back in a moment Break 3: INGLES 2 DTL INTERVIEW We'll have final thoughts after this. In Episode #18 of More to Come we talk about the 2024 pro roster, sponsors and pro schedule with the return of USA Crits!!!
We're back for another amazing episode of the show. This week, Erin and I talked all about the upcoming criterium season and whether I should build a specific bike just for racing crits. We appreciate your continued support and please remember to leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts.
Before we get into the really high intensity ANAEROBIC work that we often hear is the "tune up" before crit season, let's ensure we have the right AEROBIC training set. Even for a short criterium, a strong aerobic system will allow you to smash the BIGGEST WATTS, since the glycolytic metabolism produces lactate, and the aerobic metabolism consumes lactate. Simple as that! If you don't want to create all the workouts, you can find the TP plan here for only $32! https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/cycling/road-cycling/tp-439592/8-week-criterium-anaerobic-power-tune-up Good luck! Angelo Furlan is a sprinting legend. In the early 2000's until 2013 Furlan was racking up big wins in the European cycling world. It was a time where Mario Cipollini, Alessandro Petacchi to Robbie McEwen were winning races at will. Furlan beat all three in races. Injuries in BMX is what led Furlan to road racing. Furlan raced BMX when Italy only had 10 tracks and about a thousand riders. He was no slouch whatsoever. He was European Champion, Italian Champion and he won more or less than 100 races.During his road career he won races like stage 2 of the 2009 Criterium de Dauphine, 2 stages in 2002 Vuelta a Espana and stages in the Etoile de Besseges , Circuit de la Sarthe to the Tour de Serbia and Coppa Bernoochi. He finished his career in 2013 with Christina Watches - Ofone after riding for such teams as Alessio, Domino Vacant, Lampre to Credit Agricole.Today at 46 years old Furlan runs his own cycling center "Angelo Furlan 360" with indoor cycling, coaching to bike fitting.

On May 15-19, 2024, the Capital City will host the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships. This will be the first of a series of yearly championships as part of the USA Cycling national event expected to take place until 2028. Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin said that the rural, rugged landscape the Mountain State has to offer is what has gotten quite the draw over the last several years. “They call us the mountain state for a reason, we have more trees than we do people, but by the way, that is what is attractive to this organization, the terrain that we have, our beautiful scenery that we have,” said Goodwin. The event will draw in national elite cyclists, from Olympians to World Tour professionals alike, as well as up-and-coming and rising stars in the cycling community, and just two months ahead of the Summer Olympic Games. The cyclists will compete in the professional Road Race, Time Trial and Criterium race categories. The development office has had 57 leads and prospects and completed over 142 project follow-ups over the last year, said Wood County Development Executive Director Lindsey Piersol. One example she cited was West Virginia University at Parkersburg and the Ross Foundation purchasing the former Ohio Valley College campus to create the WVU-P Technology Center. The site will focus on degrees in computer science, computer information technology, bachelor of applied technology and cybersecurity and networking as well as growth in mechanical engineering. The college hopes to place 25 technology based incubators at the facility. Piersol mentioned job growth at Mister Bee Potato Chips and Fontaine Modification. She also brought up the new Discovery World Museum in downtown Parkersburg, which has had over 37,000 guests come in since opening in April. Small businesses are the backbone of the local economy. “For every dollar spent in the community, 80 cents stays within a local business,” Piersol said.
