This week on our motorcycle podcast we are talking about cooking food. With our bikes. No, really. Our moto is Live to Ride, Ride to Eat, so what better way to do this than to cook the food while you ride. We've come up with a list of bikes and dishes that we think are good matches. are you willing to try any? Next up we are joined by champion racer Bubba Shobert. He's a three-time A.M.A. Grand National Champion from 1985 to 1987 and was AMA Superbike Champion in 1988 while riding for American Honda. In 1989 Shobert moved up to the Grand Prix world championship riding for Honda. Unfortunately, Shobert's Grand Prix career was cut short at the third race of the season, where he was involved in a terrible crash with Kevin Magee on the cool off lap after the race, wherein Shobert drove into the back of Magee's motorcycle. Magee had stopped his motorcycle in the middle of the track and was performing a rear-wheel "burnout". Eddie Lawson narrowly missed hitting Magee's bike after he and Shobert had just finished congratulating each other moments earlier and were not looking forward. Shobert suffered severe head injuries but was able to make a full recovery after months of rehabilitation. He never raced again, taking instead roles as manager in some teams of AMA Grand National dirt track . With Liza, Stumpy John, Miss Emma and Bagel. What do Evel Knievel, Captain America, Kenny Roberts and the Terminator have in common? In 2018 Emma, Michael and myself scored an interview with Gary Davis, the coolest guy you’ve probably never heard of. Gary was inducted into the AMA hall of fame for his career as a racer, daredevil and stuntman. In 1969 he raced alongside greats like Kenny Roberts and Gary Scott. In 1972 he beat Evil Knievel’s record by jumping 21 cars. But it wasn’t an ordinary jump. He did it with a a partner, both at the same time and passing each other in mid air only feet apart. He then became a stuntman in the movies and TV, doing all of Evel’s stunts in Viva Knievel and countless other spots. Next he became a stunt coordinator and 2nd Unit director on films like Terminator 2, Predator 2, Starsky and Hutch, and Torque. And in 2018 he was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame. He is still in the business today, as well as being a collector, a bike builder and all around cool guy. So take a listen and enjoy getting to know about Gary Davis and his amazing life.
