Breast Cancer Prevention News. Ann Fonfa founder of the AnnieAppleseedProject speaks on the dangers of processed foods to wellness especially for cancer patients. "From its inception, the Annie Appleseed Project decided to Challenge the Existing treatment paradigm, to Question the existing research methods and subjects, and to Propose new directions for both ending with true Integrative Oncology. Thus the program name Cheqpt, designed to bring complementary, alternative therapies to the mainstream as soon as may be, while serving as a place where all ideas are scrutinized." - Quote from her website. The term “processed food” can cause some confusion because most foods are processed in some way. However, chemically processed foods often only contain refined ingredients and artificial substances, with little nutritional value. They tend to have added chemical flavoring agents, colors, and sweeteners. These ultra-processed foods are sometimes called “cosmetic” foods, as compared with whole foods. Some examples of ultra-processed foods include:frozen or ready mealsbaked goods, including pizza, cakes, and pastriespackaged breadsprocessed cheese productsbreakfast cerealscrackers and chipscandy and ice creaminstant noodles and soupsreconstituted meats, such as sausages, nuggets, fish fingers, and processed hamsodas and other sweetened drinksAre processed foods bad for you?Ultra-processed foods tend to taste good and are often inexpensive. They are addictive but have no nutritional value. However, they usually contain ingredients that could be harmful if consumed in excess, such as saturated fats, added sugar, and salt. These foods also contain less dietary fiber and fewer vitamins than whole foods.Highly processed foods can lead to weight gain, diabetes and obesity.Processed foods and beverages are among the major sources of added sugar in the diet. Sweetened beverages are a particularly significant source; people tend to consume much more sugar than they realize in soft drinks. The ingredients list on the back of processed food packaging is often full of unrecognizable substances. Some are artificial chemicals that the manufacturer has added to make the food more palatable. Rule of thumb - if you don't know what it is - don't eat it.Ann serves on the board of directors for the National Breast Cancer Coalition and has been an active grant reviewer for journals and the Dept of Defense, for which she recruits other cancer survivors. She is well-known for moving awareness forward. Ann spoke at events around the world and is very proud of her work. She doesn't take personal credit for the interest around Integrative oncology but she was the charter Advocate member of the Society for Integrative Oncology. It's time is NOW.Today many in oncology acknowledge the need and value for exercise, nutritional changes, handling stress and more.Ann is one amazing lady! Support the show

Annie Ann Fonfa was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in the year 1993. She had chemical sensitivity, so she could not undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Instead, she decided to go for complementary therapies. She found out about a traditional Chinese medicine, cancer recurrence stopped, and she felt great. Ironically, in 2019 on the same day of her previous diagnosis, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma (a type of Blood Cancer). She survived that as well, purely following her complementary treatment methods. There have been lots of studies on complementary therapies since 1993. She started an organization called "The Annie Appleseed Project". She says, "it is essential to have complementary treatment along with any medical treatment you undergo. Avoid fried foods and sugar consumption. It can cause miracles. Earlier detection is the key to success ".
Sadly, in the United States, there will be an estimated 1.9 million new cancer cases diagnosed and 608,570 cancer deaths in 2021. In this week's episode, I talk to Ann Fonfa, Founder and President of the Annie Appleseed Project, a non-profit that spreads the word of evidence-based complementary and alternative cancer therapies. Ann is a true advocate for the right of everyone touched by cancer to get information on natural therapies so they can make more informed choices. Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993 at age 44. As a result of having multiple chemical sensitivity, she chose to avoid chemotherapy, radiation and hormonal therapy. She had 9 years of local recurrence, (misdiagnosed as stage 4 breast cancer) but with the use of personalized Chinese herbal prescriptions, an MRI proved that she was free of cancer. Then, in January of 2019, Ann was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma, which was said to be toxin related. We talk about the conventional and complementary treatments she is doing now, what to say to your doctor when you want to explore complementary therapies, the importance of listening to your intuition, the Annie Appleseed Project's annual Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Cancer Therapies Conference, and more. Guest: Ann Fonfa, cancer survivor and founder of The Annie Appleseed Project. Diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 44, Ann was suffering from Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. This made it impossible for her to have chemotherapy. Gathering information on what in 1993 was only called “alternatives”, Ann found out so much through her search for answers. Her research and insights eventually evolved into The Annie Appleseed Project, which is recognized around the world. It challenges the existing treatment paradigm, questions the existing research methods and subjects, and proposes new directions for both ending with true Integrative Oncology. About 90,000 guests visit their Website monthly, and thousands have heard Ann Fonfa and other volunteer advocates speak at various meetings around the world. Ann Fonfa was diagnosed with breast cancer 19 years ago. Because of her severe allergic reactions to chemicals, she opted not to do chemo and radiation, but instead tried a variety of complementary therapies. Although she had several recurring tumors on her chest wall during the eight years she battled cancer from 1993-2001, she continued to use complementary therapies when complementary (then callled "alternative") therapy was not recognized by the medical community. Declared cancer-free in 2001, she wanted to share her findings with others. In 2003 she founded the Annie Appleseed Project, an organization that provides information on complementary, as well as traditional, therapies. Find out more about Ann and how you can attend a conference on complementary therapies in March with several experts in that field.
