In this engaging and insightful episode of the Building HVAC Science podcast, Eric Kaiser and Bill Spohn welcome Matt Schwoegler, founder of Blaze Infrared and longtime thermography educator. Matt shares his unexpected journey into the world of infrared—from a marketing career in the ski industry to teaching thousands about heat transfer and thermal imaging. With deep humility and clarity, he walks us through critical lessons from his 20+ year career, including some humorous—and humbling—stories from the field. Matt discusses how interpreting thermal images isn't as straightforward as it seems. From false positives caused by built-in heaters to paint that doesn't behave as expected, we hear real-world examples that underscore the importance of formal training and mentorship in thermography. He emphasizes that while technology has become more affordable, the need for skill and knowledge has only grown. The conversation closes with a compelling call to approach thermography with humility, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning. Matt pays tribute to the mentors who shaped his path and encourages listeners to seek guidance, invest in training, and pay it forward. Matt's quotes from the episode: “The price of the camera has nothing to do with your ability to use it well.” “Humility is one of the most important qualities of a great trainer.” “Infrared is like a hammer—easy to pick up, but only a skilled builder knows what to do with it.” Here are a few standards Matt references: ASTM C1060- Standard Practice for Thermographic Inspection of Insulation Installations in Envelope Cavities of Frame Buildings (https://www.astm.org/c1060-11ar15.html) states your need a 10 C / 18 F delta T to check for missing or poorly performing insulation solar loading is referenced, that's where the 3 hr wait for wood frame buildings and up to 8 hrs for masonry structures comes from - That's how long the surface needs to be devoid of direct sunshine before inspecting with IR. ASTM E1186 - Standard Practices for Air Leakage Site Detection in Building Envelopes and Air Barrier Systems (https://www.astm.org/e1186-22.html) NOTE IR Mentioned in 1186 as one of the pressure test methods. states 5 C / 9 F delta T to see air leakage sites with IR ASTM E779 Standard Test Method for Determining Air Leakage Rate by Fan Pressurization (https://www.astm.org/e0779-19.html) Blaze Infrared: https://blazeinfrared.com/ Infrared Training Center (ITC): https://www.infraredtraining.com/ Matt's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-schwoegler/ 1 hour Video on Thermography basics from The TruTech Tools Library: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qgCZCY6JCs This episode was recorded in June 2025.

While mammograms are often pushed at age 40 as the gold standard for breast health screening, many women are questioning the risk-reward ratio and seeking safer, more holistic alternatives. Could thermography be a more proactive, less harmful approach to identifying early dysfunction in the body? This episode explores the topic of thermography as a non-invasive, radiation-free tool for wellness assessment. In this episode, we are joined by special guest Amanda Allen, owner of Austin Thermography, to break down the science, safety, and practical application of thermal imaging. We discuss how thermography differs from conventional screenings, what types of patterns it can detect—ranging from inflammation to hormonal imbalances—and how it may serve as an early warning system long before a disease manifests structurally. Whether you're looking to support breast health, monitor chronic conditions, or simply stay in tune with your body's signals, this episode will help you consider if thermography has a place in your wellness toolbox. More about Amanda Allen of Austin Thermography: Amanda is trained and certified by the Professional Academy of Clinical Thermology as a Thermographic Technician. As the owner of Austin Thermography, she provides the highest quality thermographic imaging, using the latest, most advanced infrared camera available, so you can have a more complete picture of your health. In this conversation, Dr. Marjan Bolouri, a board-certified radiologist specializing in breast imaging, discusses the controversy surrounding mammograms, the historical context of their development, and the importance of early detection in breast cancer. In this conversation, Marjan Bolouri discusses the limitations of current breast cancer screening methods, including the flaws of thermography and QT Imaging and the importance of mammograms. She emphasizes the need for early detection and the role of AI in improving mammogram accuracy. Radiation from mammograms is minimal compared to other medical imaging. QT imaging lacks sufficient data to be considered a reliable alternative. Thermography is not a reliable method for breast cancer detection. Mobile ultrasound services may lead to false diagnoses. Mammograms are essential for early detection of breast cancer. Radiation exposure from mammograms is minimal compared to daily background radiation. The very special guest on this episode of The Mile High Podcast is Eddie Weller, a DC from the St. Louis, Missouri, area. His practice is known as “Getting Weller”! He's been serving the Chiropractic profession both internally by training students and doctors alike and by serving over 10,000 people in a little over two decades. He has always sought to add hope to those who feel as if they have tried everything. The truth is, the body doesn't need any assistance. It just needs to have nothing compromising its functioning. He heard that from a Chiropractor when he was 19 years old. He had suffered from IBS and struggled terribly in school. After having his spine analyzed and adjusted, proper nerve system function transformed his life both physically and psychologically. This was the catalyst to his “why.” Dr. Eddie says, “Over the past 20+ years, I have seen miracle after miracle. Life as we know it emanates through your nerve system. If something where to compromise your nerve system, in time, your body (or mind) grows into a health condition. In turn, when your nerve system is restored to proper function, your body then has the opportunity to do all that it can to thrive.” He's the author of three books, It Just Makes Sense, The Infrared Thermography Textbook, and Dr. Bones. His fourth book is coming out soon. Dr. Eddie has been a speaker and presenter at Mile High Weekends in the past and is a frequent guest on this Podcast, diving deep into clinical excellence, the journey toward chiropractic, and how you can make such an impact by focusing on the philosophy and science, and art of chiropractic. He recently launched The Chiro Legacy Club, to help you create a legacy and his 100 Certification on Thermography. To say that Eddy is busy making a difference is an understatement. On this podcast, you'll hear about: The importance of using objective data and instrumentation to assess patient progress It Just Makes Sense about Infrared Thermography Focusing on your core competency Standing out by delivering exceptional chiropractic care And MUCH more! Enjoy this episode, and when you see him in person at Mile High, say hello! He'll be one of the featured speakers. In this episode, Dr. Shawn Tassone discusses various aspects of hormone health, particularly focusing on breast cancer screening methods including mammography, ultrasound, and thermography. He shares insights from his book, 'The Hormone Balance Bible', and emphasizes the importance of understanding different testing methods, their pros and cons, and emerging technologies in breast imaging. The conversation aims to empower women with knowledge about their health and the options available for cancer detection and prevention. Episode Highlights: The Hormone Balance Bible provides insights into hormone imbalances. Mammography, ultrasound, and thermography are key breast cancer screening methods. Each screening method has its own pros and cons. Thermography is a physiological test, while mammography and ultrasound are structural tests. Mammograms can miss fast-growing tumors due to their nature. Ultrasound can detect some tumors missed by mammograms. Thermography has a lower false positive rate compared to mammograms and ultrasounds. Emerging technologies like the QT scan may offer new options for breast imaging. Prevention is more important than detection in cancer care. Women should choose the screening method that resonates with them.

The very special guest on this episode of The Mile High Podcast is Eddie Weller, a DC from the St. Louis, Missouri, area. His practice is known as “Getting Weller!" He's been serving the Chiropractic profession both internally by training students and doctors alike and by serving over 10,000 people in a little over two decades. Robbie will be discussing thermography today
Cindy Shroba, Certified Clinical Thermographer, shares the advantages and disadvantages of thermal imaging for early detection of inflammation and potentially cancer. Thermography utilizes an infrared camera to detect heat patterns and blood flow in body tissues. As cancer cells multiply, they require more oxygen-rich blood for growth. As the blood flow to the tumor increases, the surrounding temperature rises.
