Send us a Text Message. In this episode of the Modern Arizona Podcast, host Billie Tarascio talks with Motivational speaker and Life Coach Marcus Timmons, also known as Big Herc, a community activist from Gilbert, AZ, about the troubling rise in youth violence in the area tied to the so-called Gilbert Goons or their copy cats. The discussion offers his insight into the underlying issues contributing to youth violence in Gilbert and offers practical advice for parents and community members to help steer these young individuals towards a more positive and productive path. For instance, Marcus has spent time in the juvenile and adult correctional systems for when he got into trouble as a youth. He believes many of the Gilbert youths, despite being from highly privileged, are seeking identity and validation through dangerous activities. Marcus highlights the irony of these kids engaging in "goon" behavior in a community as peaceful and resource-rich as Gilbert. He blames parents for the problems. Marcus shares his concerns about the potential escalation of this violence and the allure of street credibility, which is often fueled by social media. He says these behaviors can attract real gangsters from nearby cities, posing severe risks to the community. Marcus underscores the importance of early intervention by parents and community leaders to redirect the youth towards positive activities and away from criminal behavior. He also stresses the need for parents to be vigilant and proactive in curbing these negative influences before they escalate. He also talks about the critical role of rehabilitation and mentorship in preventing youth violence. His own initiative, "Fresh Out," aims to educate young people about the harsh realities of prison life through interviews with former inmates. Taylor interviews Marcus Timmons's "Big Herc" As of 2016, 2.3 million people were incarcerated in the United States. These numbers are continuing to grow each year as our prison system has a revolving door of individuals that aren’t being properly rehabilitated, given the proper job skills or education to get by in life. The demands of the reentry process can be difficult to follow all its requirements. People give up and go back to their old ways, and back to prison. How do we change this? By advocating for the incarcerated, by educating our communities and showing compassion and encouragement for those who need help finding the right path. Former inmate, known as Marcus “Big Herc” Timmons and his partner Anthony M. are doing that and more. They are keeping it real, showing what people have to deal with after they are released and branded a felon. Big Herc and Anthony created a series called Fresh Out: Life after the Penitentiary. This YouTube series boasts over a half-million subscribers viewing his content, seeing that a couple formerly incarcerated men can bring a positive presence and message in our society, as well as plenty of education. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/designedconviction/support

Before doing my interview with Big Herc on Freshout I agreed to doing some extra segments for his channel talking about a variety of things like my experiences in jail and prison, run in's with celebrities, police corruption, etc.. I agreed because he allowed me to come on his channel to not only share my testimony, but also the gospel of Jesus Christ which is my sole objective. His platform is big and reaches not only nationally but worldwide.. Initially I wasn't gonna upload them onto my channel cause there's nothing really in the clips where I'm sharing about the things of the Lord.. After praying about it and giving it some thought I decided to post them and share them.. Final Note: Although there's not much in these clips pertaining to the things of the Lord, it's still part of my testimony and can be beneficial to keeping people out of jail (especially young kid's), and if it can make them think twice about choosing the ways of the streets, then praise the Lord!!! Thank you for watching!! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/righteousbyfaith/support

"Fresh Out - Life after the Penitentiary" is Marcus' series of YouTube shows to help ex-felons stay out of prison for the next phase of their lives. Born to a young mother, Big Herc never got the full story on his father, and spent most of his youth growing up with his grandmother. His step father was in the military and he moved around a lot, but ended up living in the Bay Area for a time when being a "BMX" on a skateboard was pretty cool. But a divorce caused a move to a tough, crime-ridden neighborhood and with his Mom working two jobs, he let go of his athlete/good student routine and started selling drugs. He loved "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" TV shows, so he always dreamed of getting out of the hood and living well and even sent shoe designs to NIke, trying to get out legitimately. But getting out of the trap wasn't easy and, even though he was in college, he got caught and put in the system. A body builder, he actually won a contest with a special decision from the warden. He took his build to the porn industry, where he got the nickname "Big Herc". But back in the system after a slip up, he put together a crew to help other inmates with their legal troubles and that was a real business. It turned into a business brainstorming group and after getting out, he started "Fresh Out".
