Hey, soccer fans! Feed the Fire welcomes Clint Mathis to the show! He talks about his career in Major League Soccer, his time with the US Men's National Team, and how the game has changed during and since his playing days. Tune in as Nick and Clint relive some of his best moments but also explore how Clint made the transition to a career after soccer. Clint also gives us his take on the latest soccer docuseries "Soccer's American Dream" now out on VICE TV . "One of the true personalities in American professional soccer, Clint Mathis took full advantage of the 2002 World Cup as a player and a public figure. Capitalizing on several years of hard work in Major League Soccer, he became one of the faces of the Summer of 2002 when the United States advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Clint was originally drafted by the LA Galaxy, but rose to prominence as a member of the MetroStars. There he established himself as a reliable goal scorer and showed the flair that would garner him national attention. An ACL injury limited his output in 2001, but he recovered in time to make the US World Cup squad. Mathis scored against Korea in the group stage of that World Cup. At the end of the 2002 MLS season, he had opportunities in Germany's Bundesliga, eventually joining Hannover 96 in 2004. Mathis won his last cap with the United States in 2005, the same year he returned to Major League Soccer with Real Salt Lake. He spent time with several MLS clubs before a successful stint at Greek club Ergotelis. He returned to MLS and RSL in 2008, finishing his career in 2010 as a member of the LA Galaxy. Clint worked as an assistant coach with the Chicago Fire in 2014 and 2015." - from https://ussoccerplayers.com/player/mathis-clint Tune in and join the conversation! In 2017, I interviewed Matty Matheson, the John Belushi of the culinary world. Heavily tattooed, irreverent and profoundly talented. Matty rose to fame with his hugely popular VICE TV show, Dead Set on Life. We talked about his recovery from addiction and a heart attack at age 29. Matty has since made a remarkable recovery and now balances a full career that includes a brand new 9,500-square-foot restaurant inside of Hamilton's TD Coliseum, acting and serving as executive producer in multiple television productions, authoring cookbooks, and performing in his punk band, Pig Pen. His ambition and zest for life are truly a wonder! One of of Bob Smith's (former PWI managing editor) favorite podcasts he's produced to date features the return of photographer/promoter/mat expert Howard Baum, who has done everything there is to do in pro wrestling. However, some have dubbed Baum a bit "cranky" or "ascerbic" - but we say bunk to that! Unlike any appearance he's made on a podcast to date, we present "Howard Baum's Favorite Things," where Smith gets Baum to speak about only the things he loves best about pro wrestling - which happens to be the grit, blood, and realism of mid-1970s promotions - which just happens to jibe with Smith's heart as well. Plus: Co-host Joe Puccio and Smith take a look at the future of Vice TV's influential Dark Side of the Ring series!Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. “There's a pyramid in the cow pasture”-In 1986, Niki Lopez lives with her family at 717 Bushwick Avenue, home to a secretive group called the Nuwaubian Nation in the heart of Brooklyn–alarmingly, in 1993, the whole community vanishes without a trace. Inside, nearly 200 families live under the control of Nuwaubian Nation leader, Dwight “Malachi” York. In this special rerelease of The Hog Pod, we honor the life and legacy of Oliver Miller, one of the most beloved Razorbacks of all time. Known for his larger-than-life personality, elite passing, shot-blocking, and unwavering love for Arkansas basketball, Miller left an unforgettable mark on the program and its fans. In this conversation, Oliver reflects on his journey—from growing up in Texas and choosing Arkansas, to the glory days of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, where he helped lead the Hogs to four straight conference championships and a Final Four appearance. He shares stories of playing under Nolan Richardson, the unforgettable battles in Barnhill Arena, and what it meant to be a Razorback. As we remember Oliver, we celebrate the joy, charisma, and impact he brought to the game and to those around him. His legacy lives on in Razorback history, and in the hearts of fans who will never forget the "Big O." -------- The full video version of this episode, including behind-the-scenes stories and insights from Hannah's life and career, is available exclusively on HogsPlus.com Follow us on social media! The 1990 Arkansas Razorbacks were more than just a great basketball team—they were a program-defining force. Led by Hall of Fame coach Nolan Richardson, this team dominated with an electrifying style of play that would become known as "40 Minutes of Hell." Their 30-5 record, Southwest Conference championship, and Final Four run didn't just put Arkansas on the national stage—it helped lay the foundation for what would become the greatest era of Razorback basketball. For years, this team's contributions were somewhat overshadowed by the 1994 National Championship squad, but the players and coaches who lived it knew their impact. They believed they were the team that built Bud Walton Arena. Their success changed the expectations for Arkansas basketball forever. In 2025, the University of Arkansas finally brought the 1990 team back together for a long-overdue reunion. Players like Todd Day, Darrell Hawkins, Cannon Whitby, and others shared their experiences, relived unforgettable moments, and honored teammates who had passed. Nolan Richardson reflected on what made this team special, how they changed the game, and the brotherhood that still remains. This episode tells the story of that team—their journey, their impact, and the reunion that reminded everyone why they were one of the greatest teams in Arkansas history. -------- The full video version of this episode, including behind-the-scenes stories and insights from Hannah's life and career, is available exclusively on HogsPlus.com Follow us on social media! The Department of Justice took a significant step on Tuesday to downgrade federal restrictions on marijuana. The DOJ submitted a formal recommendation to the White House to reclassify it as a Schedule III drug. It's a monumental shift in federal drug policy because, for more than 50 years, the U.S. government has considered marijuana to be among the most dangerous drugs, on par with heroin and LSD. Krishna Andavolu, the host and executive producer of the Vice TV show Weediquette, explains what reclassification could mean for businesses, medicine, and criminal justice. And in headlines: The New York judge overseeing Donald Trump's criminal hush-money trial fined the former president $9,000 for violating a gag order, police arrested students that had occupied Hamilton Hall on Columbia University's campus, and a key federal task force issued new recommendations for women and breast cancer screenings.Show Notes:What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday
