Wir melden uns aus dem Urlaub zurück und haben direkt wieder geile Alben für euch in petto. Während wir uns bei Svalbard, Creeper und Cannibal Corpse einig sind, scheiden sich bei Carnifex allerdings die Geister. Was meint ihr? Seid ihr Team Witchel oder Team Gandi? Merry Christmas Spocklighters! Our present to you this year is the gift that keeps on giving, 1997’s Batman & Robin. This festive season we’re giving Joel Schumacher’s much derided and camp as Christmas Superhero movie a full critical re-evaluation.We look over Schumacher’s eclectic directing career and explain our own history with the film before getting into a beat by beat breakdown of the movie, written of course by Star Trek: Discovery, Picard and Strange New Worlds Producer, Akiva Goldsman. We discuss Batman & Robin’s place within the Batman movie lexicon, comparing it with other iterations of the franchise over the years, reclaim George Clooney’s Batman as the natural successor to Adam West’s Bright Knight, admire Poison Ivy’s Drag Queen chic, lament at the treatment of Bane and Robin in the film, are moved by the emotional core of the story, discover that Barbara Gordon’s backstory literally doesn’t add up and even find time for a mini tribute to James Gandolfini. Winter has come at last. This month George & Charlie revisit the event movie that kick started the comic-book genre - Batman! From the safety of our Batcave, we discuss the film's lengthy pre-production challenges, the genius of Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton's knitwear and the excesses of a Prince soundtrack. Along the way, we also touch on the Batman legacy across film, TV and games, from Adam West's 1960's Bright Knight to this year's The Lego Batman Movie! Want to know more? Maria Howell (@mariasingsacts) rocks our world this week. She started her career as the soloist in Spielberg’s “The Color Purple,” and since then she’s been gracing our screens up to and including recent Best Picture nominee “Hidden Figures.” Did we mention that she is also an amazing singer who, with the very power of her voice, can burn the hair right off your head…cause she can. We talk the awesomeness of “Wonder Woman,” the weirdness of “Cars,” and the awfulness of “Sony.” RIP Adam West - the Bright Knight.
This episode is just a brief chat about the man who reminds us that Batman doesn’t always have to be dark and brooding. Another week has come and that means another episode of Super Film Bros with Wade, Jeremy and Jose for your listening pleasure. This week we share some news on The Weekly Hornet along with a memoriam to the Bright Knight himself the late Adam West star of the original Batman feature movie. Later in the episode we review Road to Perdition the 2002 film starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, and Jude Law as well as Daniel Craig. A movie directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall). cinematography During the winter of 1931 Mike Sullivan played by Tom Hanks is an enforcer of the Rooney crime family headed by Paul Newman and after his oldest son witnesses a crime committed by his father, Rooneys son Connor (Daniel Craig) doesn't trust that Mikes son will keep his mouth shut and murders Mikes wife and younger son while also setting up Mike to be killed himself. Mike has to protect his son and get vengeance for his family while also being hunted by hired hitman Maguire (Jude Law). It's a great film bar none, definitely worth the watch if you haven't seen it or if you have go revisit it. It's beautifully shot (it won an oscar for best cinematograpy for crying outloud) and well acted by everyone involved. Enough reading though, get to listening people and hear what we think of it! Questions? Comments? Follow the links on the page and write in to us. Thanks for listening!
We start this week by paying tribute to the man behind the cowl, Adam West. Adam introduced Batman to a new generation of fans in the 60’s and put his own heart and soul into the Bat, which still remains with the character to this day. With all of his different screen and voice rolls over the years, Adam has left a mark on nearly everyone who’s seen his work. So come on in and help us pay tribute to the Bright Knight! We are joined by Mark Schmidt of StratumComics.com to talk about issue five of his comic series The Threat, running on Kickstarter until June 29th. In the not too distant future, humanity is dying at apocalyptic rates. The only solution is through Recombinant DNA, which causes mutations in a small percentage of the population. These people become know as VIRALS. As cybernetically enhanced humans patrol the streets of Houston, preserving a hellish segregation, those who work for ANITEC are protected in their lives of luxury, while the rest are left to scrape together what life they can in the dangerous under-streets of the city. But there are still some, who will rise to seize a better future, becoming a THREAT to those who would keep them down. Episode 168: GOOD NIGHT BRIGHT KNIGHT The boys discuss the loss of the one true Batman, Adam West. Poor Rafael was pretty broken up about it, and the Cat, the Cat is just broken and doesn't feel much. The duo discuss the aches and pains of getting old, which means it might be time for them to retire to the old podcasters home. Another WTF in fashion this week, it's becoming a thing. Women, (or even men, we ain't judging) can now have the joy of wearing a one piece bikini with the look of a hairy chested dude. Raf might be opposed to a Bromper, but he was quite confused, yet interested in this bikini. An 80s trivia quiz is more frustrating by the fact that Raf has not seen the majority of the movies since he's still catching up on 70s movies he's never seen. Time to catch up Rafael! Unfortunately, we have a podcast for you today with news that no Bat nerd ever wants to hear: Our “Bright Knight,” Adam West has died. Host/Managing Editor of ComicBookIntl.com, Benjamin David, reads his Instagram post from @ComicBookIntl in remembrance and honor of Batman ‘66 himself. Benjamin recalls seeing Adam West live at NY Comic Con 2016, for the premiere of the Battasticly animated “Return of the Caped Crusaders.” Check out the NYCC coverage post from way back in October. It's titled: “New York Comic Con Live Coverage- Sequel to Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders Confirmed- William Shatner On Board to Voice Two Face.” Listen for more from Benjamin David, host and Managing Editor of COMICBOOKINTL.COM @ComicBookIntl on both Twitter and Instagram; ComicBookIntl@Gmail.com. Steve and Dug pay tribute to Adam West and the others that have passed this week. They also saw Wonder Woman and discuss what they thought, and talk about Alien: Covenant (and the Alien franchise) a bit. Plus, the Trailer for Black Panther and the Netflix Original movie War Machine.
Welcome to the House of Crouse. Batmans come and go. For a time Michael Keaton wore the caped suit. Then in rapid succession Val Kilmer and George Clooney donned the cowl. In recent years Christian Bale and Ben Affleck have been fitted for the Bat-Suit, but of all the actors to have played the Dark Knight, one stands head and shoulders above the rest in our imaginations. For two-and-a-half heady years—and 120 episodes—from 1966 to 1968 Adam West was Batman on the most popular show on television. West passed away Friday night in Los Angeles after a short battle with leukemia. He was 88 years old. This conversation dates from 2010 and finds West in a chatty and gracious mood. Sit back and raise a glass to the man who called himself The Bright Knight.
Elliot and Samantha watch "Knight Time" from SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES! When Batman goes missing, the Man of Steel dons the cloak and cowl to become the Bright Knight! Does Clark Kent make a better Caped Crusader than Bruce Wayne, or should Supes return to Metropolis in disgrace? Listen to find out!
It's about time we got to talk about Batman. We've finally arrived to the Bright Knight himself, Adam West's Batman. Joined as always by his faithful sidekick, Robin, played by Burt Ward. Batman: The Movie also features one of the best lineup of villains every assembled; The Joker, The Penguin, Catwoman, and The Riddler.
