A weekly movie podcast where anything goes hosted by three close friends/bros where we talk about movies and anything related. Tune in each week to listen me Wade Campbell and my fellow film bros Jeremy Garcia and Jose Duran as we give you news from our segment The Weekly Hornet, followed by a movie…
Ok guys here it is! The episode once promised over a week ago! We actually did it and I actually uploaded it! Hooray! This week we're joined by our very good friend and special guest Jeremiah so you're in for a treat on an epic scale! Join the three of us as we dissect (no pun intended) 1986's Flight of the Navigator in all its 1980's nostalgia goodness, after all this is a sci-fi film aimed squarely for the E.T. crowd. But sometimes we revisit the films from our youth and remember them through rose tinted glasses, is this one of those films? You'll have to listen to the end to find out what we thought! We'll be back next time people. Thanks for hanging out with us!
Just like that we are back people! Much to your amusement or chagrin or whatever the case may be, for better or for worse yadda yadda yadda we've returned. It's been quite a while we know (five months give or take) but now we're geared up and ready to slap this baby into hyperdrive! Anywho as some of you may or may not know a little streaming service launched the other day. (HINT: it's every single thing nerds love) And what better way to celebrate our return than take a look at some of Disney's back catalog of lesser known films from the past. So brace yourself, this week we review 1979's The Black Hole. After a quick BS session and catch up with the guys they get down to the usual and talk about their thoughts, opinions, likes and dislkes about the film and each give it a rating. So if this sounds like your cup of tea stay tuned in the coming weeks for more reviews on lesser known Disney classics. Thanks for hanging out geeks! We'll be back next week with a fresh take on all things that are old it's our M.O. as you know.
Yo people Jeremy here welcome back to another installment of your favorite semi regular podcast with your two favorite idiots me and Jose! This week we bring to you another great review for none other than Godzilla: King Of The Monsters! It's been almost a month since the film came out so we figured it was safe to drop this on you all, and to be honest it's mostly spoiler free so if you're a Godzilla fan on any level or just a casual Sci-Fi fan be sure to find out what we thought of the big lizards latest outing! Enjoy and thanks for hanging out with us!
Alright guys I know we've been M.I.A. lately but to satiate your hunger for silliness and shenanigans we've unearthed an episode we recorded a while back and never posted. I know we suck... oh well I digress, but without further adieu here's our review of Hardcore Henry! We'll be back into the fold next week with a new review though so don't get too comfortable folks! Now go and enjoy!
What is going on my film junkies! As per usual we have our catch up segment first and unfortunately this week we don't have any news to speak of but we bring back our Trailer Talk segment out of retirement and grace you with our thoughts on the new Gemini Man trailer starring Will Smith as well as the new trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters! We then roll into our weekly movie pick as mentioned before of Aquaman! The guys lay out their favorite scenes and what they liked/disliked about this salty tale so be sure to hang out till the end and see what all they had to say about the King of Atlantis' first adventure on the big screen. As always thanks for hanging out and we'll catch y'all next week!
Hey guys! Welcome back! We've got a great new episode for you this week and as the title suggests we've delved into the gooey creeping world of Venom starring Tom Hardy! As per usual we have our quick catch up segment then we roll into the news/talk about our views on the new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that just dropped! We also talk a bit about the Disney+ new Star Wars television show The Mandalorian starring Pedro Pascal and spear headed by none other than Jon Favreau! There's quite a lot to be excited about if your a fan of the Star Wars universe so listen up! And don't forget to stick around for the main event with our weekly movie review of Venom! Go ahead and see what the guys think about this particular Sony/Marvel treatment to one of the most notorious Spider-Man enemies of all time! Hope its better than he got for Raimi's Spider-Man 3...
What is going on super film fans! That's right the boys are back! Again... Much to your dismay and or pleasure! As we kick off this new season of the show we're here to bring you our review of 2017's Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine for no other reason than Jose's never seen it before! Before we roll into the review we've got a quick catch up and chat about as always some Marvel related news as well as give our opinions on the New Joker trailer that came out recently. So guys be sure to pull up a chair and beverage it's going to be a bumpy ride! By the by be sure to let us know what you think about our (tentatively) new intro and outro music. Catch you guys later!
Alright guys we did it. Here it is. Our review of the most meme laden movie to come out and set the internets ablaze in the last month. Bird Box. Even star Sandra Bullock has told everyone to quit their shit so you know its a an interesting one to say the least. So please be responsible and no blindfolded antics especially if you're operating heavy machinery. Just kick back and have a listen to what we thought.
So we screwed up recording at the very end so here's the conclusion of the episode for ya!
Alright you filthy animals you didn't ask for it but here it is anyway! Our extra special Christmas episode is now ready to enjoy so curl up with some eggnog and have yourself a ball! We sure did! Happy Holidays!
What's up my film geeks we're back this month with a brand new Christmas episode for your listening pleasure and we've got special guest and original SuperFilmBro Wade C. joining in on the hilarity and nostalgia while go back and revisit one of the most iconic of Christmas comedies National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! First we get into a rather lengthy catch up and then move into some small news stories then it's a good ole yuletide trip down memory lane as the bros discuss this classic filled to the brim with laughs. Be sure to stick around and have a Christmas cookie or two and a good old cup of spiked eggnog with your Wally World moose mug in tow! Merry Christmas guys!
What's going on film fans! We're back at it yet again this week with our final installment of our BROTOBER series this month and it's Jose's turn up to the plate with his pick of Don't Breathe. As always we start it off with a quick catch-up and then move onto some light news (AKA ANOTHER JOSE RANT ABOUT IRON FIST) afterwards we head into the meat and potatoes of the show with the aforementioned review on yet another auspicious film in a line of greatly reviewed flicks this month, when we dig into 2016's Don't Breathe. So be sure to dig in and get comfortable into whatever it is your sitting in for this episode as the boys give you their thoughts on this epic thriller! And as always folks thanks for hanging out and a HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO YOU ALL! Now go watch some scary movies and eat candy till your teeth fall out of your head! After all that's what it's all about!
Hey there film junkies! We cordially invite you all to join us this week for another new episode and after a quick catch up and a bit of light news the Bros get back to another installment in our spooky Brotober series with Jeremy's pick of The Witch! This film is a visual and aural experience to behold and if you're any kind of horror fan and haven't yet given this film a chance be sure to treat yourself and check it out on Netflix right now! So make sure to listen in and check out what the guys had to say about it and as always thanks for hanging out!
What is up my film geeks and welcome back to your favortite podcast about movies! Alright that last statement is probably a sizable stretch but non the less we are here anyway back with another episode in our Brotober series! This week after our catch up and a bit of news we're taking a look at Jordan Peele's horror opus Get Out! If you've never seen it your're in for a treat and quite a few shocks so stayed tuned to the guys as they discuss a (mostly) spolier free episode on this spooky flick!
What is up my film junkies! Here we are right back at it again with a brand new episode for your listening pleasure! Not to mention this marks the start of our BROTOBER series, in which the bros take on a series of horror film picks for the entire month of October! So without further adieu this week the guys tackle A Quiet Place directed by Jim from The Office! In all seriousness though guys this is an excellent and very different approach to horror/thriller filmmaking that focuses more on a single family trying to survive this post apocalypse rather than focusing on the monsters that threaten their existence. It's a wonderful film in all aspects but go ahead and have a listen to the episode and get our full thoughts about this great flick and stay tuned for the rest of this series this month!
Hey there film fans we're back with another fresh episode and this week for your entertainment we've taken a crack at yet another request and at the behest of our good friend and some time co-host Ric we've done the Ridley Scott historical epic Kingdom of Heaven starring Orlando Bloom! As I just implied this is one heck of an opus Mr. Scott has laid out for us rich with a great story, cinematography, and some top notch performances, save for the lead actor oddly enough. It's an adventure on the longer end of the spectrum (we watched the superior directors cut) so be sure to set aside a weekend afternoon should you choose to play along with us. We've got our last minute special guest Rey sitting in with us for added color commentary so be sure to hang out and see just what we all think about it in this round or rather square table chat! Thanks again for hanging out with us guys!
Hey there folks Jeremy here. Sorry for being M.I.A. with a new episode last week, but in lieu of that here's a fresh new trailer talk from Jose and I! We'll be back next week with our regularly scheduled programming so until then enjoy us bullshitting on these recent trailers! Thanks guys!
What's going on super film fans! The boys are back at again this week with another addition to our request line up this month, with a new episode on 2016's Swiss Army Man starring Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano. We've got special guest Rick Flair 2.0 on the show again this time around and after a quick discussion on our possible future Twitch endeavors we get to our news segment The Weekly Hornet. Swiss Army Man is a very peculiar film and I'm not really sure what to classify it as. Possibly a comedy-drama/adventure flick? I have no idea but I digress. A quick low down on the synopsis will give you a better idea of just how avant-garde this selection is and how it's often a love it or hate it affair in many, many ways. Dano plays Hank, a man who is attempting to commit suicide after being lost on a deserted island, when he sees a corpse, portrayed by Radcliffe, wash ashore. He begins to develop a friendship with the dead body and discovers that he can manipulate the cadaver to accomplish many different tasks just like a Swiss Army knife. And there you have it, an unusual premise for sure. Whether you find this story disturbing or endearing all depends on your sense of humor or understanding of it's metaphor laden subtext. The film can be taken and or enjoyed in a multitude of ways, if you want something ridiculous to watch or if you really want to analyze its deeper symbolism you can do that too. To find out what the crew had to say be sure and listen in. We'll be back next week with our final request selection this month so be on the lookout to see what it is! Thanks again you guys!
What's going on my film junkies? This week on SuperFilmBros. kicks off our BONUS EPISODE/REQUEST series for the rest of the month and for our first episode in line we're bringing you Grandma's Boy requested by superfilmfan who goes by Instagram handle splattersaint! So after our catch up and news segment be sure to stick around as the boys discuss and give their thoughts on this cult classic. Grandma's Boy is a 2006 raunchy stoner comedy brought to you by the likes of frequent Adam Sandler cohort Allen Covert who also co wrote and is the lead actor. The film also stars Nick Swardson (who also co-wrote), Linda Cardellini (Freaks & Geeks/Scooby Doo) and Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond). There's also plenty of SNL alums who make appearances such as Kevin Nealon, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. The premise of this film is an easy one to follow. 35 year old Alex (Covert) is a tester at a videogame developer who has recently been evicted from his home that he shares with his hooker addicted roommate Josh, who soon comes to live with his grandmother (Roberts) and her two other roomates. Hilarity of the low brow sort ensues! I won't go into to much more detail about the plot but rest assured if you've never seen this movie beforehand there are gags and laughs aplenty (some do fall flat) for it's 94 minute run time and if that sounds like your thing go ahead and check it out for yourself! This is not a comedic masterpiece, but rather a tasty morsel of a film that's quotable for sure, we believe it's best enjoyed with friends who share the same comedic tastes as yourself (case in point stoner comedy). To hear our full thoughts on the film be sure and listen till the very end and don't forget to hit that like button if you enjoyed! We'll be back next week with a new BONUS EPISODE/REQUEST selection so stay tuned! As always folks thanks for hanging out and we'll see you next time!
Hey there super film fans! Hope you all had a happy July 4th and enjoyed yourself some BBQ and or fireworks and if you didn't hopefully you got the chance to at least watch a good flick! Sorry for going MIA for a bit (if you noticed) but once again we're back with a new episode this week. FYI this is a show we recorded last week on June 26th but hadn't yet posted and unfortunately we didn't get a chance to record this week (life gets in the way). But next week be ready for a fresh new episode coming at you from the Bros.! As we conclude our month long Sci-Fi extravaganza we move on lastly to Jose's pick of 2014's INTERSTELLAR starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway directed by Christopher Nolan. This film is a real science fiction lovers dream come true. Everything in this film is superb, from the performances of the cast to the special effects and especially the score. The film hits hard and dazzles with its amazing visuals and surprisingly scientifically accurate science as well as pulling you in with a terrific premise and story. This is a film on the longer side (2hrs and 50 mins.) but it doesn't drag and it constantly keeps you engaged. If you're already a Nolan fan for sure there's a lot to like here and if you're new to this filmmakers catalogue this is a great first! I've already gushed on all the positives this film has to offer so to get the full scope of our collective thoughts on this opus be sure to stick around with us until the end. And as always folks be sure to look out for more episodes packed with hilarity and shenanigans in the future because July is going to be something we promise! Thanks for hanging out with us we'll be back soon!
What's up my film geeks! This week on your favorite movie podcast we've got another exciting episode in store for you! This time we've got not one but two special guests sitting in with us as we go over a bit of light news and then we get into our weekly movie review. As we continue our cerebral Sci-Fi theme this month it's Jeremy's turn up to bat with his pick of 2009's Moon starring Sam Rockwell and directed by Duncan Jones. This is another film in the vein of a long line of thinking man's science fiction films (not unlike the previous two films we've done this month) Are you getting the sense of a pattern here? I hope so! Because after this week we've still got one more film in store to make you really ponder your place in the cosmos! Moon is a fairly straight forward story to behold set on a lunar mining base where the only personnel to speak of is astronaut Sam Bell (with a fantastic performance by Sam Rockwell) and his A.I. companion GERTY (voiced by Kevin Spacey). Sam has come to the end of his three year contract of duty and will soon head home to earth to join his family but what soon follows him is a whirlwind of hallucinations, doppelgangers and mystery which often leads you to question quite a few things in the process. This is a great flick for sure so stick around for the show and join us as we pick it apart through all its ins and outs and ups and downs and discuss the deeper meanings held in the various messages this film instills on its audience. I'll leave you with this one last thought. The moon is the last place you'd ever expect to find yourself.
Alright folks Jose had the bright idea to split this segment of the show into it's own separate thing because stuffing news and trailers and the review were beginning to bloat the usual epidodes close to the two hour mark and we thought it was a bit too long for one show. So here we are coming at you straight from my couch in pajamas no less! This week we've got a bevy of receent trailers we get down on and comment about so have a listen and see what you think!
Welcome back super film fans to another episode of your favorite weekly movie podcast where anything goes! This week we've got our main man Frank The Tank sitting in with us adding to the ensuing hilarity, while Jose lays all of his adventures and cosplay stories on us from his A-Kon 29 trip this past weekend (all the while shamelessly plugging some random podcast about movies) after that nonsense we get to our round up of mostly Marvel MCU centric news. And finally keeping with our cerebral Sci-Fi theme this month we get into our review of 2016's Arrival starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker. Arrival is a 2016 science fiction opus brought to us via director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Blade Runner 2049) in which Amy Adams portrays linguistics professor Louise Banks who is brought in by the government to communicate with the aliens of one of the twelve vessels that have recently arrived around the earth. Jeremy Renner plays her counterpart in this endeavor as astrophysicist Ian Donnely while Forest Whitaker rounds out the main cast as Colonel G.T. Weber. This is another example of a slow burn thinking man's Sci-Fi so if that's not your cup of tea and you're looking for a fast paced film about an alien invasion with massive amounts of destruction and chaos go watch the original Independence Day (which we so happen to have an episode on!) or it's sub par sequel. This is not a film of super flashy special effects but rather one that keeps you pondering the subject matter long after you've viewed it especially in the instance of this crew. Multiple viewings reveal more and more about the message of the film and its intricacies therein. A great story is present here, one packed with emotional depth and consequence and we think it's definitely worth your time. And with all of this go on ahead and check out our in depth discussion and review on this flick and please remember it's "ARRIVAL" not "THE ARRIVAL" but maybe go and watch that one too if you're feeling silly and want pre-psychotic break Charlie Sheen goodness.
Hey there film fans after a brief hiatus we're back! Again! This week on the show is a little different without our cohort Wade to guide us through the ever changing landscape that is podcast land, but never fear we will persevere! Ok enough with the rhyming crap... This time we have our special guest Jeremiah hanging out with us to help round out our cavalcade of shenanigans as it were, so after our quick catch up and the news we get down to our weekly movie review of 2018's Annihilation. Annihilation is a visually stunning science fiction film from the mind of director Alex Garland (Ex Machina) starring Natalie Portman and Oscar Issac. This is a thinking man's SciFi flick for sure, one steeped in heavy handed philosophy (especially to Jeremiah's dismay) but we'll talk about that in the review. The beautiful imagery alone is worth the price of admission, with that being said there are some jarring and disturbing horror moments strewn throughout the film that'll definitely shake those of you with a weaker constitution. The actors do a great job with this material but it's not a dialogue heavy adventure, it takes a less is more approach for sure. One of the high points is noticing the reactions to the situations that the team of scientists encounter in "The Shimmer" where you actually see the psychological toll it starts to take on every character. This movie oozes style and tone by the bucket load so if that's your thing you're in for a real treat. So kick back and have a listen while the Bros. wax poetic about this intriguing flick (JK) and maybe if you haven't already decide to give this film a looksee. Just don't say we didn't warn you about the shimmer...
This week on Super Film Bros we unknowingly keep the theme going of the horroresque genre from last week as we watch and talk about the 2017 film Mom and Dad starring Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair. After an unknown static signal is randomly broadcasted that sets off the urge for parents to kill their own children, mass hysteria breaks out world wide as these violent events unfold. Meanwhile siblings Carly and Josh must survive not being murdered by their own parental units. (Cage & Blair)Written and directed by Brian Taylor (Crank and Crank: High Voltage) this flick gives an interesting view of the horror of what would happen if this were to actually take place in the real world. Good performances given by the main cast for sure, especially Nic Cage who basically plays himself for the entire course of the film. Hope you enjoy the show, and I also hope that your parents live a good distance away from you so you can properly prepare....you know just in case.
This week on Super Film Bros, we rev up the chainsaw and crack open some PBR (just kidding we’re not doing any of that) as we review Tucker and Dale vs. Evil a comedy movie that pokes fun at the horror genre in numerous ways. As Tucker and Dale are heading to their newly acquired vacation home to do some fixing up, they encounter some college kids trying to enjoy a weekend of camping in the woods. After one of the college kids injures herself, Tucker and Dale come to her aid while the college kids assume the worst things imaginable and all hell breaks loose. The movie has gathered quite a cult following and is hilarious in many ways, so sit back and listen while we talk about it and wish that we had our own vacation home…minus college kids trying to kill us or themselves.
*SPOILER ALERT* You’ve been warned super film fans. On that note finally after ten years in the making the marvel cinematic universe has come together in the biggest and most epic culmination of super heroes we have ever seen for Avengers: Infinity War, and on this week’s episode we discuss and fan boy the hell out of this movie. I’m pretty much going to leave it at that because unless you’ve been living under a rock or in a cave since 2008 then you know all about this movie and if you’re fans like we are you have already seen it. If you haven’t seen it yet, GO SEE IT! Why? Well, because us talking about it just will not do any kind of justification to the level of awesomeness of this movie. Enjoy!
We’re back! That’s right super film fans, after a more than brief hiatus we have returned back to our microphones to bring you all kinds of fuckery. No review this week minus a small recap of Full Metal Alchemist, the live action interpretation of the popular anime currently streaming on Netflix. We talk about what we’ve been up to during our absence, what we’ve seen lately, a bit of news and then we try to pronounce hyper-gonadal….yeah, let that sink in for a minute. We appreciate everyone’s patience for taking an extended break but we’re on the grind again. In the infamous words of LL COOL J….don’t call it a comeback!
Bonus episode!!This time the Bros. look back at the 2014 mockumentary vampire horror/comedy film What We Do in the Shadows starring Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, and Jonathan Brugh. The movie focuses on three housemates (who just happen to be vampires) as they live in New Zealand and deal with the struggles of modern day life while getting ready for the annual undead ball. Yes, I know there are four housemates originally but ultimately its sights are set on the main three. It’s definitely an entertaining movie, myself (Wade) have seen this once before and wasn’t as entertained as it was hyped up for me, however with a revisit I enjoyed it much more. Very creative and witty with the dialogue, and all of the actors in the film do a wonderful job. I highly recommend watching it with friends, and if you’re a fan of the style of movie you’ll enjoy it. Don’t just take my word for it kick back and listen for yourself!
This week on Super Film Bros. we hit you with our Weekly Hornet news segment as always and later we launch an out of this dimension expedition to review The Cloverfield Paradox.Released right after the Super Bowl this year, the movie is about a team of scientists on the aptly named Cloverfield space station all trying to work together to solve the Earth’s energy crisis using an experimental particle accelerator. Once things go awry during their first semi successful test that’s when things start to get weird.I might be hyping it up a bit too much but it does shift gears into a sci-fi thriller, however there just doesn't seem to be that much thrill. It’s good for sure, and it’s a nice addition to whatever shared universe JJ Abrams is trying to achieve. Let’s put it this way, it’s a good thing it was a straight Netflix movie instead of a theatrical release. Again, just an opinion but hey….listen to what we think about it by clicking on that play button!
This week on Super Film Bros we look back at the 2011 Kevin Smith flick Red State starring Michael Parks and John Goodman. After three teenagers meet up with a woman online anticipating sex with her, they shortly realize it’s a trap and find themselves at the mercy of a lunatic preacher and his congregation that want them to burn in hell for having sinned so egregiously. Needless to say all hell breaks loose between the victims, congretation and the ATF.It’s definitely not the normal variety that Kevin Smith is known for seeing he has mostly put out dick and fart joke type movies such as Clerks, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike back and so on so forth. He flexes his chops at directing this thrill filled and suspenseful ride of an interesting film.So make sure and say your prayers and check it out and listen!
Just read the title of this movie! Enough said. We’re back at it film fans as we make progess through our back log of bonus episodes and on this one we look at Hobo With a Shotgun starring Rutger Hauer. The premise doesn’t get much simpler than this, a hobo (Hauer) comes to town which is overrun by corrupt cops, drugs, and violence all thanks to the kingpin of the city The Drake. The hobo has had enough of the filth around him and decides to clean up the streets by dispensing justice one shell at a time….from his shotgun of course. So kick back and pop a shell or two into the ol' pump action and have a listen to what we think of this movie (especially Wade). The only question to ask is who's riding shotgun?
This week on Super Film Bros we look back at the 2009 drama Brothers starring Toby Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Natalie Portman.Shortly after Tommy (Gyllenhaal) is released from prison his brother Sam (Maguire) leaves for Afghanistan, after being shot down and presumed dead Tommy steps in to help out his big brothers wife (Portman) and his two young daughters. Sam gets rescued and is brought home only to deal with the trauma of being tortured and the endeavor of settling back into his life. The movie does a great job of portraying the real life struggles in the life of an active military family along with the very real mental battle of post-traumatic stress. A superb performance given by Maguire and the rest of the cast. Jim Sheridan also does very well directing this movie and is beautifully shot. It’s well worth the watch so you can catch even just a small glimpse of what families have to go through each day as the men and women of our military serve to protect our country.Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving.
Bring on the vodka! Well, at least in small amounts so you’re not too smashed to listen. This week we watch and review 2007s Eastern Promises starring Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts. After a young woman comes in with birth complications a nurse (Watts) delivers her baby and finds a mysterious diary among the woman’s things after she passes away from complications of the birth. Once she has the Russian text in the diary translated she’s sucked into a whirlwind of Russian mafia ties. All the while Nikolai (Mortensen) is trying to keep her away from him and his boss while he rises through the ranks of the crime family he works for.The movie is not your typical crime syndicate thriller but it definitely has plenty to offer in the realm of organized crime. I mean it gets about as real as can be when the fight in the bath house ensues, not to mention all of the other violence along the way.Grab a bottle of Russia’s best and have a listen, das vadanya.
Surf’s up brah! Little hand says it’s time to rock n’ roll!First up as always we sting you with our Weekly Hornet news segment, and then later we take a look back at the 1991 cult classic film Point Break starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Lori Petty and Gary Busey directed by Kathryn Bigelow.Reeves stars as rookie FBI special agent Johnny Utah who has just been assigned to the bureau’s bank robbery division in Los Angeles. Partnered up with veteran agent Angelo Pappas (Busey) they set out to investigate and try to apprehend the bank robbers known as the ex-presidents after their most recent robbery. The bureau has been trying to catch these guys for three years with no luck. Pappas tells Johnny his theory, which is that the ex-presidents are surfers based off of what little evidence has surfaced on the case. Sending Utah under cover as a surfer, he befriends Bodhi (Swazye) and becomes pulled into his world of adrenaline and Buddhist way of thinking all the while trying to figure out whether he’s his man or not to take down. The movie is awesome on many levels, it may be a bit dated in some ways a bit sure but as a movie that has received cult status over the years and is a testosterone fueled action flick from beginning to end. Also being Reeves first action flick, I think it was a good kick start into that genre for him. I mean without this movie do you honestly think you would’ve had The Fast and The Furious a decade later? I’ll let you digest that for a few minutes, however I digress.Settle in with your headphones, TWO meatball subs, and find your inner Zen as you wax up your board for the ultimate ride of an episode!
In a land far away where demons and gods exist, one man tears across the land on his trusty elk to restore peace.Along with our Weekly Hornet news report that is filled with juicy nectar, this week we venture out of the norm as we watch and review our FIRST anime film picked by Jose, the 1997 film Princess Mononoke. After being attacked and injured by a demon Ashitaka goes on a quest to hopefully find a cure before being consumed by the evil curse. During said quest he comes across a war between forest gods and an iron mining colony. Being the person he is, he just wants to help bring peace to both sides instead of having so much hatred in the world.Overall the movie is great on many levels. Visually it looks amazing, there’s so much detail as you watch it’s just pure joy for your eyes. The directing is superb as well by Hayao Miyazaki who also wrote a wonderful story that just flows like a river. Finally with all the voice acting talent in this movie, it all comes together in a wonderful symphony.Ready your sword, draw your bow and keep your powder dry for this episode and go have a listen!
If you go out in to the mist, you might not come back. However if you listen to our show, you will…hopefully. We’re back at it again super film fans and this week we look back at the 2007 Stephen King suspense horror film The Mist starring Thomas Jane. After an intense storm rolls through the small town of Bridgton, Maine knocking out power in some areas and causing property damage to the residents, a mysterious mist rolls in from the mountains blanketing the entire town. Usually not a big deal except for what lies within the mist, what lies are creatures not of our world. While people are trapped inside a grocery store they try to figure out what’s going on and how to survive, not only from the monsters outside, but also from the monsters inside. The movie embraces such great acting from the entire cast and Thomas Jane does such a good job taking the lead in this movie. Also praise goes to director Frank Darabont (The Green Mile) who also adapted Kings novel for the screen writes in such suspense and horror that even King himself was kind of terrified.Sit back and enjoy as we talk about this movie as well as the crazy ending, just remember to have enough bullets when out in the mist, just saying.
Throw on your headphones and prepare to be judged! That’s right film fans, straight off the transport from the cursed earth is a new episode for you to listen to.We kick off 2018 with another ‘VS.’ episode as we hit you with a double whammy of movies. First up we have the 1995 over the top film Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone, later on we talk about the 2012 gritty violent action flick Dredd starring Karl Urban. I hope you hotshots are ready for the rapid fire of hilarity we bring to the table with this one. These movies are among the simplest of formulas of Hollywood action, made even simpler given the source material of these movies being based off of the graphic novel of the same name. When law has collapsed in the dystopian future, to keep order among the chaos in our mega cities that are crushing under their own weight of being over populated, we rely on the enforcement of the individual men and women from the Hall of Justice. They are juries, executioners, judges. With the first rendition of Judge Dredd portrayed by Stallone, I mean what good can you say about it when he REMOVES his helmet for a majority of the movie! Also in stupendous fashion Stallone over acts the hell out of the role while screaming any chance he can about THE LAW! However, it was a time when Hollywood was experimenting with comic book movies, while some fared well and others didn’t. After almost two decades, we finally got the portrayal many fans had wanted. Karl Urban snugged into that iconic helmet and looked damn fine with it on, and the best part is that the helmet STAYED on the whole movie! With very little emotion and a rugged scowl he did an amazing job bringing the essence of Dredd to the screen. Both movies make for an interesting debate among the bros as well as our very special guest that sat in on the shenanigans for this one.Grab your law givers and strap on your tactical gear, but NOT your Versace uniform so you can listen to us while out on patrol as you carry out your own brand of justice. It’s judgement time.
*SPOILER ALERT* In a world, where elves are rich and powerful, orcs are thugs and fairies…well pretty much just annoy humans and are seen as tiny pests that like to eat out of bird feeders but can easily be bested by a household broom. That’s right folks we take a look at the newly released 2017 Netflix original film Bright directed by David Ayer (End of Watch, Suicide Squad) starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. In an alternate present day of Los Angeles where humans live among fairies, orcs as well as elves, LAPD officer Ward (Smith) is back on the streets with the departments first orc race hire Nick Jakoby (Edgerton), after recovering from a gunshot wound he endured in the line of duty. After responding to a disturbance call Ward and Jakoby end up in a whirlwind of magic and chaos during which they encounter an elf named Tikka. Tikka has left the inferni which is a secret society whose mission is to return the dark lord to reign hell on earth, she also has the gift of being a “Bright” which are the only ones and few among the earth that can use a magic wand make your wildest dreams and fantasy a reality, or simply bring doom and despair to anyone who stands in your way. Bright is a unique film experience overall, while it obviously has its core formula of being a buddy cop movie it also has the fantasy element set in present day which is something not totally at the fore front of Hollywood’s radar in movies. Sure, you have vampires and movie monsters, but not too much of characters written in folklore. The movie can be predictable at some points, while others are stereotypical of your normal action flick. On the flip side of the coin you have a present day reality with many fantasy elements that’s very creative in its writing and dialogue which makes for an interesting blend on screen. So kick back and enjoy super film fans, it sure will be a bumpy and magic filled ride.
We are the night! By that I mean we are three guys that just happen to review movies usually at night for your listening pleasure. This week as we continue our Merry F!@#ing Xmas theme of jolly episodes, we review the 1992 super hero flick, Batman Returns starring Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito directed by Tim Burton. In this outing the caped crusader is back as he takes on The Penguin and Catwoman as they wreak havoc on the city of Gotham during the holiday season all the while Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) is doing is own evil bidding in the city.Is this a holiday film you may ask? Of course it is! I mean there’s snow on the ground, they light up a giant Christmas tree in Gotham Square, people have presents and people are wishing one another happy holidays. For a sequel, and for a superhero sequel to boot, the movie does a wonderful job on many levels. You get to see the origins of not just one but TWO coveted villains of Batman lore with the bonus of seeing them very well portrayed on the big screen. Next up the story is well written to where it’s not drawn out and keeps you entertained from beginning to end and lastly, Keaton dons the cowl once again for a superb performance as the dark knight.Put on your rubber suit (without bat nipples), grab the batarang, and strap in to the batmobile as we go full thrust on this episode.
Jingle bells, batman smells, Sinbad cracks a joke, and Arnie saves the day hey! As we continue our Merry F@#&ing Xmas we take a trip down that good ole holiday memory lane as we review 1996s Jingle All The Way starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. In this wacky outing Arnie trades his machine guns for candy canes. After letting his son Jaime (played by Jake Lloyd, future Anakin Skywalker) down numerous times by letting work get in the way, he goes for the Hail Mary to make it up to him by getting the season’s hottest toy, the Turbo Man action figure while trying to get it on the worst day of shopping, Christmas Eve.As long as you take the movie as it is, which at the core it’s simply just a holiday comedy for kids, then you won’t be disappointed. If you try to take it serious by any means then you are most definitely setting yourself up for a letdown. I have no clue as to why you would even remotely try to take this film seriously when Arnold punches out a reindeer followed by having a beer with it in the back yard!So sit back with a cup of hot cocoa, some fresh baked cookies, find your Christmas spirit and have a listen.
We blew it! We had a bit of a snafu with our recording equipment guys but click right on that play button to hear our final thoughts on this holiday classic! We hardly ever fuck up so cut us some slack its Christmas time after all!
Looks like we’ll have to register this episode as awesome! As we kick off our Merry F@!king Xmas with the bros this month with holiday themed movies we pick a movie that doesn’t get as much recognition as a Christmas movie and honestly I have no clue as to why. This week leading off our MFX month we go with the 1987 film Lethal Weapon starring Mel Gibson, and Danny Glover. Perhaps one of the best buddy cop movies around. Danny Glover stars as Det. Roger Murtaugh who after finding out the daughter of an old friend is murdered he gets teamed up with fresh transfer and newly assigned partner Det. Martin Riggs who everyone thinks has a death wish. As they dig deeper in their investigation it leads them down a rabbit hole filled with guns, explosions and heroin in Los Angeles. This is such a great movie on so many levels, from cinematography, acting and script it’s fantastic from start to finish. Directed by Richard Donner (the whole Lethal Weapon franchise, Superman, The goonies) and written by Shane Black (The Last Boy Scout, The Nice Guys) the movie has no doubt the sense of Hollywood flare to it but it also has the gritty authentic elements of real life thrown in for good measure. Furthermore how can you not forget its status of being solidified in cinema history with a release during one of the best summers at the box office in the glorious year of 1987.Kick back with a beer, a three stooges marathon, and possibly a Beretta under the ole Christmas tree and listen to this one.
Simon says listen! This week we drop a bonus episode for you guys instead of something from our regular programming, however hopefully for a good reason you’ll soon find out.We watch and take a look back at 1993s Demolition Man starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, and Sandra Bullock. Sly stars as John Spartan who after the arrest of notorious criminal Simon Phoenix it’s revealed that innocent bystanders were killed and Spartan is to blame. They freeze him in a cryogenics prison as punishment, but when Phoenix escapes from cryogen stasis after a parole hearing the San Angeles Police Department thaws out the detective as their only hope to catch the mad man.The movie is nostalgic in its own right for the simple fact of being an over the top action movie with so many wild one liners, as well as action from one of the most familiar faces of the genre. For being a futuristic movie from the early 90s it’s definitely worthy of a watch to get your fill of testosterone fueled action. So sit back and turn on your favorite wall to wall mini tunes radio station, maybe have a rat burger, maybe some high tech sex, and be well.
We got drugs, hookers, guns, booze, hookers!!! Ok, not really but this movie sure does have all of that and then some including a tasteful donkey show. That’s right film fans the bros go down memory lane as we review 1984s Bachelor Party starring Tom Hanks. Hanks plays Rick Gassko who after many years of just living it up with his pals decides he’s going to settle down and get married to his girlfriend Debbie. His buddies decide to throw one last hoorah before he becomes unavailable. 80s chaos ensues while Rick parties like an animal while everyone is knee deep in booze, drugs, and women while also managing to not get killed by Debbie’s crazy ex-boyfriend.The movie was much funnier as we were younger and more juvenile but it was nice to take a trip back down the road of nostalgia. While the movie wasn’t gut busting hilarious, it was still funny and was great to see 80s Tom Hanks when he was doing comedic roles before he made the huge shift to drama.Bust out the big hair, drugs, women and animal shows for this episode.
It's all posh and shites this week on our show film fans as we review not just a dirty movie, but a fucking filthy movie filled with drugs, sex, and alcohol. That's right we went with 2014s Filth starring James McAvoy. McAvoy plays Bruce Robertson who is a drug addicted, drunken, bi-polar, hallucinating scoundrel bastard of a detective trying to solve a murder of a Japanese student. The movie is exactly how it's titled...just filth, but not in a completely bad way because you just see how one man while trying to hold on to his humanity and win back his wife and daughter just completely spiral out of control into the abyss of utter chaos. He bullies his friends, he belittles his co-workers, while doing just about every drug he can get his hands on while still battling all the skeletons in his closet. McAvoy delivers a great performance in this film and that's pretty much what makes it bearable. Definitely worth the watch if you like the type of movies in this genre. Kick back, pour yourself a wee glass of whiskey, and listen aye.
Tonight’s main event is brought to you by Haddonfield hardware, where you can get all of your slasher needs!*in ring announcer voice* In one corner we have the master of horror himself John Carpenter and his 1978 masterpiece Halloween starring the scream queen herself Jamie Lee Curtis! In the other corner we have the demon speeder himself Rob Zombie with his 2007 remake of Halloween! Both of which feature the man from the depths of hell, the man of pure evil, armed with only a butcher knife and sheer brute strength…the man..the myth…the boogeyman himself…Michael Myers!! Let’s get it on!That’s right film fans, as we close out our Brotober series this month here at film bro studios we do a dual movie review comparison of Halloween. Both movies star the evil antagonist Michael Myers who after committing murder as a young boy is sent to a psychiatric hospital where he then escapes to come back and wreak havoc on his home town. He stalks Laurie Strode and her friends ultimately killing them and fighting to the death with Laurie in the end, but is he dead? The sequels kind of spoil that. With the help of our special guest Brent we review both of these films and talk about the good and the bad in their own equal rights given the fact they were done almost three decades apart.Just remember fans if you’re a horny teenager and need to give into those “desires” don’t use an abandoned house, or another family’s bed or else end up stabbed or choked out. If you have a bitchin van, use it instead. That way you can out run the serial killer slow walk of death. Happy screaming and of course Happy Halloween!
Who ya gonna call? Well in this case The Monster Squad! That's right folks it's the 1987 film directed by Fred Deckker, written by (Shane) Black and Deckker. Continuing on with our month long Brotober series Wade selected this 80's cult classic as his pick of the week and man was it a nostalgia filled romp getting to revisit it. In the film a group of unlikely kids are the only thing standing in the way of Dracula and his gang of monsters (including Frankenstein or Frankenstein's monster if you're a purist dickhole, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, and Gil-Man) from taking over the world using a magical amulet that has the power to turn the tide of good vs. evil. It's only up to them to discover Draculas evil plot and stop him from destroying all life as we know it. The movie is classic 80's fantasy and definitely hasn't aged as well as some of it's same time period contemporaries, but if you enjoy a decent and entertaining stroll down memory lane then definitely check this one out, especially if you're a fan of Universal's classic monsters and you've never seen it before. So get ready and grab your wooden stakes and do your best Van Helsing impersonation and send those monsters back to where they came from and join the crew in The Monster Squad!
Well film fans it's that time again around here at Super Film Bros. Studios! Time for a BONUS EPISODE! This time around we're taking a stab at a Netflix Original film suggeseted by our dear friend Frank. Upon his request we watched Message From The King starring none other than Black Panther himself Chadwick Boseman. This film is sort of a gritty noire detective thriller mixed with a good old fashioned revenge flick so if that sounds like your cup of tea go ahead and give our review a listen. Boseman stars as Jacob King a South African visiting Los Angeles in order to find the whereabouts of his sister who has gone missing. What he soon uncovers leads him on a trail of revenge and danger involving a crooked dentist (played by Luke Evans) and a rich and pedophilic film mogul (played by Alfred Molina) that really throw the viewer for a loop (not in a good way). The film is shot well and the actors do a fine job considering the material they have, but overall the film drags (earlier on especially), you don't ever really feel like the protagonist is in any real danger save for one scene in particular and the plot is too convoluted for its own good. Its not a bad film by any means it just could have been so much more. Anyway enough babbling click that download button and enjoy and remember THIS WAS A MESSAGE FROM THE KING!
As much as we clown around here at film bro studios we decided to just do an episode on a movie called Clown...however as with most clowns or clown themed endeavors, it was not enjoyed that much. Clown is the 2014 horror film produced by Eli Roth (Hostel) and directed by Jon Watts (Spiderman:Homecoming) about a guy who is a real estate agent and finds an old costume, decides to put it on for his kids birthday party. Good dad thing to do right? On paper yes it is, however when the costume is cursed with a demon spirit....shit goes down hill fast. The film is definitely...different. I mean it's not a terrible film but as with most films in this genre it's either part of your wheel house or you have to take it with a huge grain of salt and get through it. However there are good things about the film like the special effects and makeup as well as how Watts directs it. Oh and Peter Stormare (Armageddon) wants to keep cutting the demons head off. If you somehow happen to like clowns, go ahead and watch the movie....if you don't like clowns....flip a coin whether to watch it or not. Just remember if you find an old ass clown costume in a house you buy, don't put it on or else you'll want to eat kids as a demon clown...during the winter.
Becareful as to who you sleep with, or else you'll get a supernatural entity that will want to kill you for having sex with someone That's right folks as we kick off our Brotober series this month we review It Follows starring Maika Monroe. After having sex with her boyfriend Jay (Maika) is being followed by a unseen supernatural force that wants to kill her....yeah that's the premise here folks. As odd as it may sound overall this movie is actually really good. Filmed in Michigan on a budget of 1.3 million dollars and to make a 20 million return would deem it worthy. It is a very good looking film in ways of cinematography and does an even better job with the suspense as well as the pyschological aspect of just not knowing when this thing will come for you. As mentioned folks, due your research before hooking up with someone or swiping right on that app, even if it's super late at night and it's prime time booty call hour...think before you fuck or else you'll end up running forever from some crazy and possibly naked entity that wants to kill you.
