This week we are doing something we have never done on this show ... we confront Madi's ex CHAD from the "Taking Responsibility" episode! Very few of us will ever be lucky enough to become an internet meme. Sure, sometimes being a meme can decidedly go the wrong way – just ask Chair Girl – but other times it can open a lot of doors. Case in point, Big Shaq, or as he's known out in the real world, Michael Dapaah. This hilarious comedian had been making comedy sketches and sharing them on YouTube and Instagram for nearly a decade before he had his big break in 2017 with his appearance on Fire in the Booth and his subsequent music video for “Man's Not Hot”. Following those back-to-back hits, suddenly the character of Big Shaq that he originally created for his web series “Somewhere in London” was far more famous than he ever imagined possible. And unlike with most internet memes, Michael has discovered a way to continue to keep his comedy relevant by producing more and more content -- more music videos, more comedy sketches, and recently, a brand-new series that sees him shift into the fitness space, a passion he's always held from a young age when he wanted to be a footballer in his earliest years. Michael likes to describe this series as “Carpool Karaoke” at the gym – and today I'm going to tell you all about how he arrived at this moment of re-invention.

For all that don't know, people here refer to Toronto as ‘the 6' because of the area code (416)…quite clever Haha!! I reached out to the creator on Instagram, and it took some time, but I got em'! I'm pretty sure that I am the first Podcaster ever to get this creator on a podcast and couldn't be happier about it. And just like the news, ‘you heard it here first' …. I've always wanted to say that haha!! For those of you that don't live in the city of Toronto, let me give you a quick rundown of why these cards are magically hilarious for T.dot locals. Within the last few years, there have been a series of silly, hilarious, and ridiculous crimes that were so random it became mainstream media. The first card-set features the 6 main real life (what I like to call them) Anti-heroes. The most famous one of all is ‘Chair Girl'. Then we have ‘The Chainsaw Beach Boys', ‘The IKEA Monkey', ‘The Corona Rapper', ‘The Shark Streaker', and my all time favorite, ‘The Toronto Dope Police'. If you don't know any of these references, listen to the podcast and all will be explained. I forgot to ask him how he got his cards in the media, but I did ask him after our conversation and he said that he put the card packs on the subway seats all over the TTC (which is the acronym for Toronto transit). This beautiful stunt got ‘The Infamous 6ix Card Pack' into major Toronto news media sources such as Narcity, and Blog.T.O. Narcity put out an article back in November of 2020 with the headline “Toronto Trading Cards Are Apparently Being Hidden In The City & They Are Hilarious” Also saying in the article: “Residents are currently trying to catch 'em all as Toronto trading cards are reportedly appearing around the 6ix. TTC riders are claiming they are finding unique and hilarious cards of the city's most infamous icons around the stations. Everyone from Chair Girl to the IKEA Monkey has been stylized and recreated for the mysterious stunt.” By the way, I have a funding app where if you like my stuff, you can help me expand and support me by using ‘Buy me a coffee' which is the equivalent to Gofundme. Plus my "Trump Round-Up" and "Tweets of the Week" segments. Follow me on Twitter: @Nick_Beaton Check out my new website: NickBeaton.com Email questions and comments to thirdrailpod@gmail.com

Court is in session! Criminal lawyers Adam Goodman and Scott Cowan are joined by Barry Davis to discuss the legal differences between Toronto’s “Chair Girl” and “Beer Throwing Guy.” Chair Girl was charged with mischief. What does that charge mean? How much jail time is associated with such a charge, if any? Is posting the video of the chair throw encouraging copy cats? What of the person that was filming the incident. Are they in any sort of legal trouble? The case of Ken Pagan, “beer throwing guy,” is examined. The subject in question was given a conditional discharge. What does that mean? Ken lost his job as a result of his actions. Does he have a case for wrongful dismissal? Is the beer incident more serious than the chair incident? Does the presence of intent make a difference? Were these acts pre-meditated? How, as a lawyer, would you be able to determine pre-meditation? Famous cases are used as precedent when comparing these two scenarios and the differences between knowledge and intention, in the eyes of the law, are explored. There are many questions, and all are answered. All that and more… Its all laid out for you on Outta The Court.
Third Rail with Nick Beaton: A Comedy Guide to Social Outrage
On this weeks episode I talk about the now infamous "Chair Girl." The blatant stupidity of it, and I dig in a little to talk about a few of the deeper issues it brings up. I also talk about Ilhan Omar being accused of anti-semitism, as well as my weekly "Trump Round Up" and "Micro Aggressions" segments. Follow me on Twitter: @Nick_Beaton
It's mail it in Friday and we have a jammed packed show for you today. The whole team is here! Dean, Daren, Dan, Rookie and Cannabis Phil. Dean wants his own late night show. We think it would be #1 in 5 minutes. Chair girl is stilll a topic of conversation. Fame for being stupid. The lads are rattled. The Leafs won 6-3 last night. The buds are rolling. We get into ice time and Auston Matthews fooling Marc Andre-Fleury. There was almost a fight in a shootout at the Florida Panthers game last night. If you fight in a shootout, can the goalie still continue? Daren investigates. How was your Valentines Day? We get into gifts and doing nice things for your significant other. Rookie gets roasted for the gift he bought his girlfriend. You be the judge. We close with Cannabis Phil, Daren is on the weed know ( kind of) for his arthritic hip. Deans going to rub it in. Enjoy.
