In April 2024 25-year-old Kennedi Westcarr-Sabaroche was a social media marketer and mother from East London who was found dead in her car being having been strangled and attacked.  Days before her death, Kennedi told a friend she was “on a break” from her relationship with Gogoa Lois Tape. But Tape lured her to meet him under false pretences and strangled her in the driver's seat of her own car—for eight minutes.   Tape was charged with murder, but prosecutors ultimately accepted a guilty plea to the lesser offence of manslaughter by diminished responsibility. He was sentenced to a hospital order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act with a restriction order under Section 41. This means he will not serve a day in prison.   In this episode, Laura applies her expertise in behavioural analysis to determine whether there were coercive and controlling behaviours prior to Kennedi's death and examines Tepe's post offence behaviour where he confesses to murder.  Did he have clarity of mind and a consciousness of guilt? Investigative journalist Mandy Matney is best known for doggedly pursuing and unraveling Alex Murdaugh's financial crimes against his 100-year-old family law firm and its clients in the low country of South Carolina. Mandy's coverage of and in-depth investigation into Murdaugh's legal dynasty family began in 2019, when a boat crash involving 19-year-old Paul Murdaugh resulted in the death of 19 -year-old Mallory Beach. Mandy's relentless reporting continued through 2021 with the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh and extensive trial of former attorney Alex Murdaugh, who was eventually found guilty of their murders. However, in 2026 he was granted a new trial.    Mandy told the story via the hugely successful "Murdaugh Murders Podcast" which led to the Hulu miniseries "Murdaugh: Death in the Family", on which Mandy served as executive producer.     On 7/13/26, Judge R. Joanna Simpson was brutally killed by her estranged husband, British Airways pilot Robert Brown, just one week before their divorce was due to be finalised. Brown pre-dug a grave and hid her body in Great Windsor Park. This week, we're talking about some good news. Some very good news, actually. The murder rate, which has been on the decline for a couple of years now, is on pace to hit a record low. That's what the early data collected by Jeff Asher's AH Datalytics indicates. Asher joins the show to break down the numbers he's seeing so far. He said the murder rate surged during the pandemic, but it has already fallen back to those levels and kept dropping further. While the FBI's murder data for 2025 won't be out for nearly a year, Asher collects crime data from many of the same sources. He said his data shows a huge early decline in the murder rate that would equate to an all-time low if sustained. He cautioned that the decline is likely to slow as the year progresses, but it should still hit a record. Special Guest: Jeff Asher.

If you like our true crime podcast genre please find us on Spreaker and You Tube. https://www.youtube.com/@undersuspicionpodcastThree young Texas sisters girls were strangled and left in a pond in east Texas, and no arrests have been made in a case that advocates and experts believe has been severely mishandled by local authorities.Nine-year old Zi'Ariel Robinson-Oliver, 8-year-old A'Miyah Hughes, and 5-year-old Te'Mari Robinson-Oliver, known as the Oliver 3, were reported missing on July 28, 2022, in Atlanta, Texas. The girls' cousin, Paris Propps, who was watching the three sisters and their siblings while their mother was at work, reported the girls missing around 9 p.m. Hours later, on July 29, all three bodies were found in a nearby pond. Initially, authorities said it was a drowning.But in March of 2023, nearly eight months after the girls were last seen alive, the Cass County District Attorney's Office said in a statement that a homicide investigation is underway. Autopsy reports concluded the manner of death for all three girls was homicide, indicating evidence of strangulation. The first attack known to police was the rape of a 10-year-old girl on 15 November 2001 in Ashford, Kent. When she was grabbed in broad daylight from outside a busy police-run youth club, she was told by the male attacker he would break her legs and she would be killed if she screamed. In July 2002 he attacked a 30-year-old woman in Earlswood Surrey. He attacked another woman in Surrey, another in Hertfordshire and in London. On one occasion he raped two women in the same day. Women were terrified and the police were under pressure to catch him. We continue our discussion of Meredith Kercher's rape & murder by Rudy Guede, his recent parole and subsequent new allegations of rape and assault against him by an ex partner. Laura and Jim zero in on the errors, omissions and outright fabrications by Italian authorities who handled Meredith's case so badly, allowing Guede to get a fast-tracked trial and a reduced sentence (from 30 years to 16 years which was further whittled down to 13 years for good behavior).
