I met 23-year-old Kevin Boyle when he sailed into La Cruz Mexico aboard his Ericson 32 and I took his lines at the dock. Kevin stuck out in the sailing community of La Cruz because of his young age. He reminded me of myself when I went cruising in my 20s and I really wanted to talk to him about his experience cruising a young person and seeing how he made that happen. He's currently crossing the Pacific from Mexico to the Marquesas and I'm hoping we can reconnect in French Polynesia.

Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom welcomes Washington Examiner reporter Chris Tremoglie back onto the Dom Giordano Program for some updates on the shocking controversy in a Montgomery County suburb featuring a brutal attack at a middle school. Dom tells the story of a 12-year old Pennbrook Middle School student who was attacked by a 13-year old student who allegedly identifies as transgender, after complaints were made by the 12-year old to school leadership. Tremoglie tells of a new injunction released by the judge that demands media not reveal details about the assailant, an odd move as the standard for reporting minors is to not reveal any personal or identifying information. Then, Dom continues the Dom Giordano Program by giving an update on the situation involving Democratic Assemblyman Kevin Boyle, who had charges against him dropped by Progressive DA Larry Krasner, the timing of which leading to questions as to whether there were any political motives with the move. Also, Dom and Dan discuss the move by the Sixers to file a grievance with the NBA after the horrible officiating in their last two playoff games. (Photo by Getty Images)

Various strategies and techniques can be employed to combat the spread of respiratory viruses in buildings. These strategies aim to reduce the concentration of respiratory viruses in the air and on surfaces, making it less likely for people to contract the virus. Some of the most effective strategies include increasing ventilation and filtration, implementing social distancing protocols, increasing cleaning and disinfection, and encouraging the wearing of face masks or other personal protective equipment (PPE).Why is respiratory virus indoor transmission such an important topic, and why is it essential to have the basic knowledge to adopt the right ways to prevent such transmission? On today's episode of Conversation to the Edge by Service Logic, host Michelle Dawn Mooney chats with Kevin Boyle, Vice President of Products and Marketing at GPS Air, and Charles Waddell, Founder and CTO at GPS Air, to discuss how to mitigate the spread of respiratory viruses in buildings. They talked about:1. The importance of respiratory virus indoor transmission and how to mitigate it 2. The common multi-layered solution approach 3. Testing in Poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)Respiratory virus mitigation in buildings requires a multi-faceted approach, including increasing ventilation and filtration, implementing social distancing protocols, increasing cleaning and disinfection, and encouraging face masks or other personal protective equipment (PPE). Building owners and managers must work with public health officials and experts to develop and implement effective respiratory virus mitigation strategies."Multi-layer strategy is the concept where you use multiple technologies in combination with each other to get a better result,” said Charles Waddell, Founder and CTO at GPS Air. This approach aims to provide a comprehensive and effective solution by addressing different aspects of the problem. Some common multi-layered solution approaches include engineering and administrative controls, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), social distancing and hygiene practices, and monitoring and tracking.Indoor air quality (IAQ) is an important aspect of respiratory virus mitigation in buildings. Poor IAQ can increase the risk of respiratory infections and aggravate existing respiratory conditions. “Buildings that are poorly ventilated or have high levels of indoor air pollution can create an environment conducive to spreading respiratory viruses such as COVID-19,” said Kevin Boyle, Vice President of Products and Marketing at GPS Air.In conclusion, respiratory virus mitigation in buildings is a complex issue that requires a multi-faceted approach. In his new book,Northwestern University Professor Kevin Boyle captures the inspiring and brutal events of this passionate time with a remarkable empathy that restores the humanity of those making this history. Often they are everyday people like Elizabeth Eckford, enduring a hostile crowd outside her newly integrated high school in Little Rock, or Estelle Griswold, welcoming her arrest for dispensing birth control information in a Connecticut town. Political leaders also emerge in revealing detail: we track Richard Nixon's inheritances from Eisenhower and his debt to George Wallace, who forged a message of racism mixed with blue-collar grievance that Nixon imported into Republicanism.

Think of all that has changed as a result of startups and creative destruction. Nothing is the same as it was because of the sometimes revolutionary ideas of entrepreneurs. In a similar way the 1960s were a time of creative destruction for America and the world. The post war paradigms that had shaped the country through the late 40's and early 50's were shattered. And just as today we are struggling, socially, politically and economically to come to grips with the our technology disruption, on a grander scale we are still trying to come to grips with the social and political shattering of the 60's We explore this with National Book Award winner Kevin Boyle, whose new book is The Shattering: America in the 1960s    My conversation with Kevin Boyle:

The topic of busing proved to be one of the most volatile issues in metro Detroit during the early 1970s. This came to a head in the case of Milliken v. Bradley. Two federal court orders mandated the forced busing of children to remedy segregation in metro Detroit. The reaction: The KKK dynamited buses in Pontiac. Thousands took to the streets. The question eventually landed in the U.S. Supreme Court, where a 5-4 decision put a stop to the planned move. We talk with historian Kevin Boyle, a Northwestern University professor and author of the book, "Arc of Justice." He's an expert on the history of race relations in Detroit; Joyce Baugh, a Central Michigan University professor emerita, who has written a book on the topic. And we hear Justice Thurgood Marshall's dissent in the case, in which he predicted the high court's decision would prove to be a disaster for racial justice in this country.
