Today's podcast: Iran is threatening direct mlitary action against Israel and in the next days with a representative of the Tehran regime saying an aerial attack on Israel by Iran might last 3-4 days, saying "bloodshed would be carried out"(against Israel). Expectation is Hezbollah may launch a full-scale assault on Israel in coming days. Meanwhile the U.S. has an aircraft carrier taskforce stationed off the coast of Iran, ready to stand by Israel if needed. What would Israel expect from its long-time ally Canada if conflict breaks out? The Trudeau government has been openly critical of Israel most recently. Guest: Iddo Moed. Israel's Ambassador to Canada. The race riots in England have abated after strong action by the new Labour government of Keir Starmer took action against far-right demonstrators/rioters. Some arrested, charged, tried and convicted within 6 days last week. While the violence may have abated, it would be foolhardy to assume the anger against migrants, Britain's refugee and immigration policies has disappeared. So, what now? What next? Are the rioters themselves surprised at the level of participatory support they received? Also of concern, as reported by Global News today, is the growing anti-tourist sentiment appearing in Europe. Perhaps in Canada as well. Some has to do with short term rentals cutting into possible long-term rental housing. Guest: Katja Hoyer, Anglo/German historian and professor at Kings College, London. I'M A CONVICTED FELON Those should be the first four words out of Donald Trump's mouth at the debate Thursday night. Get it out of the way. Joe Warmington of the Toronto Sun talks about an election result in Canada that appears to be more evidence of a conservative resurgence around the world. It was the first conservative win in 33 years. Caroline Sunshine, Deputy Communications Director for the Trump 2024 campaign, talks about the differences in the two candidates' debate preparation. A Toronto Sun story by Joe Warmington has shown a cube van in Toronto carrying carrying video advertising depicting people carrying Palestinian flags, praying and protesting, with the banner headline on the van reading Is this Yemen? Is this Syria? Is this Iraq? No. This is Canada. Wake up Canada. You are under siege. There have been accusations this is hate speech and Toronto's chief of police Myron Demkiw promised an investigation and TPS has posted online this is Islamophobic expression and provided contact information for anyone who has information. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow also denounced the van and its messaging. Others are saying what is being displayed in Toronto is nothing more than freedom of expression, guaranteed all Canadians, unless and except it is defined as hate speech, per the Supreme Court. Meanwhile another truck has been seen in Toronto displaying the words "Zionism is terrorism." Is that hate speech, or freedom of expression? Guests: Joe Warmington. Toronto Sun. On Tuesday 28 year old Bezhani Sarvar is alleged to have entered Edmonton city call carrying a long gun and incendiary devices described as long guns. Sarvar, according to Edmonton police statement "once inside City Hall he lit several handheld incendiary devices, believed to be Molotov cocktails, that caused one small fire outside an elevator. He then fired several shots from a long gun into the ceiling, walls and windows." There is reported to be a video, writes Joe Warmington of the Toronto Sun, in a column which also appeared in the Edmonton Sun, in which Sarvar is believed to be heard citing "this genocide that's going on in Gaza and throughout the world." The voice on the video, includes "we will rise up against you guys, and we'll put you on trial." Rambles on about climate change, taxes and more.
