In the process, students learn to move with the breath and spine and to train the mind. Her teaching style is clear and practical and includes discussion and reflection, movement, breathing techniques, meditation, yogic philosophy, and vedic chant. Amanda is great at creating an efficient daily routine to meet the needs and interests of each client. Individual support and this evolving home practice is where the life-magic happens. Amanda took her first yoga class in 2001 and has been practicing ever since. After moving from Seattle to Austin in 2010, she took her first yoga training and began teaching yoga full-time. Amanda met her teacher and mentor, Chase Bossart in 2011. At this time, her yoga practice took a turn toward a therapeutic approach and she went on to become a certified yoga therapist, to see clients, and to train other yoga teachers to do the same. Amanda Green is a graduate of the YATNA yoga therapy program and an IAYT-certified yoga therapist. She offers group classes and individual yoga therapy to students online and at her private studio, Innermost Yoga in Austin, TX. Amanda is faculty at Yoga Well Institute and teaches in the 1,500 hour therapist training program. Chase Bossart is a Yoga teacher and a yoga therapist, and has been studying yoga for over three decades. And for the majority of that time he has studied with Guru TKV Desikachar, son of T. Krishnamacharya — who is often referred to as the Father of Modern Yoga. Altogether, he has spent more than 4 years in Chennai, India studying a wide range of yoga and yoga therapy topics with Mr. Desikachar and the teachers at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in the Viniyoga tradition. Chase spent six years at the Healing Yoga Foundation in San Francisco as Director of Education & Yoga Therapy. We recently had the pleasure of hosting Chase Bossart for a workshop at Miami Life Center on the teachings of The Bhagavad Gita, part of our month long course Ashtanga Practitioner's Intensive. This text along with The Yoga Sutras are crucial in guiding the path of a yogi. Held side by side, they compliment as well as contrast each other and we thought it would be interesting to dive into the concept of God in this regard. In this episode of Chat & Chai, we have a very special guest. Chase Bossart coming from San Francisco, was in Miami this summer to teach our Ashtanga Practitioner’s Intensive students the Bhagavad Gita and an introduction to Sanskrit and Vedic Chanting. Chase has been teaching in our past 4 month-long intensive courses and each time we learn something new, each time gaining a fresh perspective on these ancient teachings. This time he also shared with us his understanding of the Yoga Sutras in his talk on Pratyahara or ‘withdrawal of the senses’ and the 5th limb along the 8 limb path of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. In today's episode I sit down with my personal yoga therapy mentor and primary teacher, Amanda Green. Amanda candidly discusses her journey with faith and challenges she faced in her marriage. She also shares how engaging with her yoga practice and undergoing the process of yoga therapy helped her to see both her faith journey and her relationship with her husband with fresh eyes. Amanda took her first yoga class in 2001 and has been practicing ever since. After moving from Seattle to Austin in 2010, she enrolled in a hatha yoga teacher-training program and soon after completion, she began teaching yoga full-time. Amanda met her teacher and mentor, Chase Bossart in 2011 and her yoga practice took a turn toward a more gentle and therapeutic approach and her yoga study expanded to embrace the broader teachings of yoga. Yogic philosophy and texts, practices including āsana (postures), prāṇāyāma (breathing techniques), meditation, vedic chanting and the practical application of the tools of yoga for therapy are all a part of Amanda’s ongoing practice and study. Amanda has over 15 years of personal yoga practice, 2,000+ teaching hours and more than 1,200 hours of yoga training. 053: Yoga Mentors and Lineage with Chase Bossart On today's episode, Shannon invites Chase Bossart who with great warmth and humour shares with us some of his experiences with his mentor T.K.V. Desikachar. Chase discusses the hallmark of Desikachar's teachings that he's very much taken to heart, the importance of mentorship and the sometimes necessary end of this relationship. Chase was introduced to yoga in 1991 when he took a semester abroad in India as a philosophy major. He was interested in learning more about Eastern philosophy and took a class in yoga theory. This is where he met his mentor T.K.V. Desikachar, one of the class' regular instructors and become immersed in yoga and Desikachar's teachings. Chase has spent over 4 years in India and several years in China (becoming fluent in Mandarin). Expanding on his knowledge of Eastern philosophy, Chase earned a Masters degree in Religious Studies with an emphasis in Indian Philosophy in 1996. Now living North of San Francisco, Chase has travelled frequently to give workshops and training on a wide array of yoga and yoga therapy topics since 2003. Chase teaches courses and workshops in person and provides an online meditation session and online study session of Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita once a week.
